Listening to this song while surrounded by the nearby forest in 2 am is like experiencing a symphony of nature and music, where the mysterious allure of the woods intertwines with the haunting notes of the melody.
You wake up in a dark forest, unsure on how you got there. When you walk around to find a possible way out, you hear a soothing tune, singing in a somewhat near distance. Almost as if it was meant for you. As the tune gets louder the closer you seem to get, the darker the forest gets. Until you reach a mysterious cabin that looks somewhat inhabited. You hear a faint humming in a nearby room, unaware of who or what is making that noise. You enter a bedroom and notice a note reading; “Welcome back”. As you look in a mirror to see if you aren’t losing your mind, you notice that you don’t seem to have any human features. Maybe you made it home, where you truly belong.
I was relaxing to this, minding my own business, sipping some tea when someone slams my door open while screaming my name and I swear to all that is unholy... I fell out of my freaking desk chair-
The thing that makes this much meaningful is the irony Witchers are described as feelingless beings in this song but all the witchers we've seen had been the most friendly and full of emotions And monsters are known as just bloodthirsty unbeatable creatures but, there they are singing for their children about dangers of the man
That thought occurred to me as well...but then this lullaby could have been originally composed by the monsters ( maybe higher vampires like Oirriana...who is actually shown singing this song in the trailer) It kinda makes sense that the witcher might want to chop and slice you if the villagers have paid for it 😅
Story time: So I was sitting in art class next to my friend and I started singing this song as I drew, and then my friend joined in. And that's how we found out we have essentially the same taste in music.
Just imagine listening to this song, walking in dark woods alone with a just a torch. The torch starts flickering and goes off as soon as the song ends.

Not so sure about that... "One soul lies anxious wide awake"... Monsters aren't supposed to have souls and aren't supposed to sleep at night. "... Fearing all manners of ghouls, hags and wraiths". Why would monsters fear themselves? Besides, where have we seen monster children?! I think this is due to the fact that common folks also dislike witchers, even loathe them and thus this lullaby. Don't forget that in the books/games, this disgust for witchers resulted in attacks on their fortress. Do you remember that pamphlet on witchers? It is quoted both in books and games.
@@ivanstepanovic1327 dude you are sooo wrong, First it's "but ONE SOUL lies anxious wide awake, fearing NO manners of ghouls, hags and wraiths". Who stays awake at night hunting, Yes our boy geralt the witcher. This is the only song my babybrother (he's 8 months old now, I'm 20) falls asleep to in the middle of the night after waking up. So far, it's cute and fun. But I bought him a plushed owl with a sensor that, whenever a certain volume is reached in the room (either by baby or by anything else), starts to play whatever you programmed it to - in our case obviously this song. Let me tell you, it's helly creepy to wake up to hearing this enchanting melody via the baby monitor at 2 a.m.
This makes me feel like a merchant stopping by an old cabin in a foggy forest. An owl hooting around the corner, and them casually transforming into something unknown one after another.
*"Sometimes the true horrors happen in the open when the day is at its brightest. We just don't see them because if we did we would be apart of them."*

Few monsters are that smart. I think the folk used to sing them to their kids because witchers " stole" young children. Parents were teaching their young ones to fear witchers.
Son: “Hey Dad, can you play that song when you tuck us in tonight? We love it. ” Me: “Who’s we?” Son: “Me and my little sister.” Me: “Son, you’re an only child.”

I imagine a story of a little girl who died with her doll named Polly in a cabin not far off from a forest. She was told many stories of mythological creatures, good and bad. She had the doll since she was a baby, in turn she took it with her everywhere, giving the doll outfits, playing games with her, and giving it all of her attention. The doll itself was an old porcelain doll that had black curled hair like a witch's from the stories she was told, piercing yellow eyes like gold, make-up that made her look slightly saddened, and ever-changing outfits. The doll had the moving mechanic where it closed it's eyes to imitate sleep. The girl slept with the doll. It was the only reminder of her mother as, she got the doll for her, but passed away during birth. Her father over the years changed, drinking alcohol more and more. He became angry and abusive, hurting the girl. She'd cry each night, as her doll 'slept'. When he gets drunkenly angry when she's supposed to be asleep, she'd always be awake, crying, scared, and anxious. She'd always hum a tune from a music box she heard to calm herself down on this nights, yet she still wouldn't be able to sleep, fearing that her father would come into her room. One night, it was dead silent, everything except the girl's angry father who was yelling at her and took it too far, breaking the bottle and ending the girl's life, she was holding Polly, who had seen it all. The girl's soul was never at rest, taking over the doll and haunting her father who is now in an insane asylum with it, the doll always moved into the room of white walls with the girl's father in a straight jacket. Every time the doll appeared in front of him an eerie tune came from it. The doll always disappeared in the morning, when the father tried telling doctors, guards, and nurses about it they didn't believe him. The father died from lack of sleep, with Polly in his cell, with tears emitting from the porcelain doll's eyes. She then appeared on the shelf of a store one day, haunting all abusive parents as she moves from home to home. Never resting.

Fun fact: When i was playing as a bard in a gothic horror campaign, the DM decided to have them meet my character in a dark forest. he told me to start playing a song and i decided to play this song. The party was completely terrified of me and almost attacked me, thinking i was some sort of monster and if the DM hadn't stepped in he would have been dead.

The music from Witcher is seriously good. Gaunter O'Dimm's theme (this: th-cam.com/video/PUT4nwYCgpM/w-d-xo.html ) is literally one of the creepiest things I have ever heard, and yet it's weirdly beautiful too; fantastically effective use of dissonance.

@@justcath7920 it came from a video game Called The Witcher 3. About a Monster Slayer paid in Coins hunting and slaying monsters. I think this was the vampire’s perspective on what they see Witchers as Ruthless killing machines hired in gold. There’s also a Netflix adaptation show about it.
Honestly prefer this over Toss a Coin because this song tells the story of the Witchers and humanity from the perspective of the monsters with a level of intelligence. it shows the fear the monsters have in the form of a creepy lullaby while Toss a Coin glorifies the deeds of Geralt in an incredibly light hearted sense. Lullaby of Woe gives us a sense of dread as we hear the gentle singing of a creature comforting its child to sleep, while Toss a Coin is just a happy little song about how Geralt is some badass. This song shows us the moral grey area of being a Witcher and how a lack of mercy for the unknown can birth fear among the innocents within the unknown.
@@garoulupo3979 I've not read the books, but apparently the show is based solely off the books and follow the books more accurately. The Witcher games are inspired by the books, but the game takes more liberties of its own. So yeah, the Netflix series is very much connected to the books.
@@AraiaHikari the games are set after the books, yes the netflix series follows the books, although it takes liberties that i personally think have spoiled aspects of the source material, i enjoyed watching it, but certain events and characters were somewhat ruined for me.
@@AraiaHikari to me the show is more on the line of just being entertaining; not great, but just good enough. However it doesn't follow the books entirely (some characters having bigger parts in the show than were necessary even when they were minor in the books, and of course some of the casting choices), and some odds and ends do rub me the wrong way since it contradicts the lore in the novels. But otherwise its somewhat spot on and entertaining.
@@garoulupo3979 Honestly the fact that you even thought to bring up racial casting as one of the "issues" just negates whatever else you might say. That's just poor taste.
"...The worst monsters are the ones we create..." Geralt of Rivia And he was right. Who is the worst monster besides those witchers? Monsters created to kill other monsters
Umm no?? They were created in response to Humans and Monsters being cast onto the same planet/plane of existence. Yes how they are created is tragic, only 3/10 survive trial of grasses and even less after all the other trials but have you seen normal humans trying to fight vampires and other strong monsters, they have no chance, especially ones that have stealth. A neccessary thing to do. So no Witchers are not Monsters, not all, so they take coin for their work, it's their livelihood, how else should they pay for their needs.

don't forget the fact that it is ABSOLOUTLY TERRIFYING
The thing that makes this much meaningful is the irony
Witchers are described as feelingless beings in this song but all the witchers we've seen had been the most friendly and full of emotions
And monsters are known as just bloodthirsty unbeatable creatures but, there they are singing for their children about dangers of the man
Finally! Some one who thinks the same thing as me!
That thought occurred to me as well...but then this lullaby could have been originally composed by the monsters ( maybe higher vampires like Oirriana...who is actually shown singing this song in the trailer) It kinda makes sense that the witcher might want to chop and slice you if the villagers have paid for it 😅
Gaetan was acting on self defense and anger
The fact that he spared someone shows he still has a heart
Story time:
So I was sitting in art class next to my friend and I started singing this song as I drew, and then my friend joined in. And that's how we found out we have essentially the same taste in music.

This Lullaby is sung by monsters to their children.
I'm a monster then xD
@@ivanstepanovic1327 dude you are sooo wrong,
First it's "but ONE SOUL lies anxious wide awake, fearing NO manners of ghouls, hags and wraiths". Who stays awake at night hunting, Yes our boy geralt the witcher.

brave and bold
Paid in coin of golds
HE'LL chop and slice you
Cut and dice you
Eat you up whole"
Dude it is sung by monsters. That's how that song is, wait a sec it's not at song it's a lullaby, lullaby of WOE (sorrow) which means distress cause by one's loss(and many other meaning but here it means this). Who has suffered a loss, monsters as Geralt slashes through them. We know geralt is the protector of both sides, but THIS lullaby is in POV of the monsters.

Toss a coin is pop song doesn’t even belong to the Witcher universe , but the mass like shit like that so yeah
