    12 December 1964. This is an episode I had to miss. I was stationed at Camp Lejeune N.C. and this was my weekend for Guard Duty. But for those of us who had the duty, well we made the best of it. God Bless.

    Scratching my head wondering from where production dug up today's dancers -- a little bit of "Slauson", some "Surfer Stomping", the classic line dancing the "Jerk"; and even a few dancing the long-ago shelved "Swim" ... all set to the classic "It's My Party." What a hoot, Aaron. We all needed this upload to raise our spirits while in the midst of the global situation. So great that the formerly blocked uploads a back for us to enjoy again! Big smiles. Aaron and everyone stay well. Be safe. Keep on keepin' on. ~~ Don

      Wow Don! You just educated me. I had never heard of the Slauson (shuffle) until I read your comment. I did a search and found that Major Lance get's "name checked" in the song Slaulson Shuffle. As you probably know Major Lance has deep ties to The Carolinas - what we call here on the East Coast - Beach music or Carolina Shag music. But I still can't get a decent representation of what the Slauson Shuffle looks like. Can you redirect me - or maybe point out where it is being done and properly filmed on this clip. The camera guys seem to have been intent on either filming up too close - causing lots of camera mugging --or above the waist!

    Oh, this is gold, Aaron!
    Lesley Gore was a one woman girl group! She has so many legendary hits! Even her later non hits were good like I'll Be Standing By, Look The Other Way, When Yesterday Was Today & Sometimes with The Brothers Johnson.
    This clip has so many Philly elements to it! First, the dancing is more wilder here than the East coast dancing. The Jerk took over the country that year, so you couldn't escape it. Even if you couldn't dance, The Jerk was an easy go-to. So much energy on this & the tiny Beatles snippet at the beginning!
    The camera work is just like the Philly years here. Just lots of one single long shots & barely any change of scenes, but this was still the early days.
    I finally saw another full clip where the sign says "new" on it. Honestly, the only other time I saw this sign besides the specials, was The Ikettes performance of The Gong Gong Song.
    Excellent clip Aaron! Glad some of your other videos are public now. That's happened to a number of my very old videos when I used to do TH-cam. That was another life... lol. Glad you're doing well during this pandemic. Stay safe buddy & RIP to the legendary Bill Withers!

    Well now. Like Don I think I'm pondering this a bit. The dancers are having fun and do seem to be trying to recreate the Philly style....and keep an eye on that camera! The boys seemed more interested in being more cool than the next as opposed to dancing with their partner. What the hell, if they had fun good for them!
    I can't help but wonder if since the proliferation of COVID-19, YT decided to unblock some videos as a gesture of good will. If so, thank you YT...much needed. Aaron ya done good my friend.
    My home state, thanks to our new, young, foresighted Governor Andy Beshear, continues to lead the charge against COVID-19. The entire state is briefed everyday at 5pm. Someone sent Governor Andy a message threatening litigation over violating of civil rights since it has been mandated we NOT leave this state. The Gov's response: "Go ahead, you'll lose." I like this guy! His oft used phrase that we should put on s bumper sticker...."YOU CAN'T BE DOING THAT."
    Ok...all of you please stay safe. This is a treacherous time. If we all pull together, eventually this virus will run it's course. Saddest of all, COVID-19 will run out of victims. Cyber hugs to everyone! 🇺🇸💚🤗

      Here in California we have Governor Gavin Newsom with his daily briefings. Just an hour ago he gave a stern message on practicing safe distancing. And he was pessimistic (or being realistic) on the future of sporting events. Newsom and Trump are practically related because of Kimberly. Also, I can't help wondering how many of these young people in this clip are currently stricken with that virus.

      @@keithidota our previous Governor, Matt Bevin, was like an angry elf, Donald Trump Jr. He tried to walk all over Teacher's Pensions and landed on his keister on the front lawn. I'm a Republican and beyond disappointed in my own party. Our new Governor Andy Beshear is a Democrat and by God has grabbed the bull by the horns. He's Kentucky's greatest cheerleader. Anything goes wrong, he takes the blame. Kentucky has consistently led the way in stopping Covid19. We'll see him in Washington someday. When someone dies in our state, everyone turns on outdoor green lights. Today is 72° out. That's dangerous because it makes people want to get out and get together. You can't. Everyone in a household can go for a walk...sit outside...play with the dog, but only with those in the house. When I see people I wave and say hi. That's it. Kentucky kids will not go back to school. They are resorting to NonTraditional Instruction online. We really must all pull together, everyday. Everyone take care of yourselves please.

    Hi Aaron & thanks for this upload. I'm assuming that this December '64 show had some kind of theme or remembrance (?) as Leslie's "Party" had been a hit the spring of '63 and the Beatles' "She Loves You" had been a hit in the spring of '64....The dancers seemed all over the place today :---) I'm wondering if these late '64 dancers are attempting to "recapture" what they "think" the Philly dancers would have danced to in '63 while mixing in some of the '64 moves (?) If so, they truly missed their mark, but it sure looks like they're having a lot of fun. (NEVER had seen "The Jerk Squat"...Leave it to these early L.A. dancers...ha!)

      I'm not sure if they allowed more kids on the dance floor or it was a smaller LA studio set in subsequent years, but that huge group on the dance floor gave it a very cozy, warm feel. The later set when the show went to color seemed "colder" when viewing. This video really looked like a dance club.

    • @mrob75
      @mrob75 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@shave-a-thon3415 great observation here. Originally, Bandstand was just that...a dance party. Part of the original early tenet of the show was to make kids feel as though they were attending a daily party and that your living room at home was an extension to the event. The kids, along with the music and the musical guests of the day, almost became your close friends in many ways. During the Philadelphia years, the cameras would pan off to different areas of the studio showing kids socializing and visiting with one another and if it were a lucky day, the soft drink sponsors would splurge to provide drinks for the kids. The show grew and changed through the years and a lot of the original intimacy was lost.
