    More modern meaning of words;
    Ace = an asexual or aromantic person.
    Blast = great experience - usually used sarcastically
    Cheesy/ Cheesey = Unoriginal
    Dork = a quirky or "weird" person. It's now used more as a compliment.
    Goof off = be silly, do something silly
    Hangout = spending time with someone. not necessarily romantically or sexually.
    Hickey = a love bite
    Janky = low quality: not used very much anymore.
    Lame = not great. unintelligent
    Make-out = a kissing session. not necessarily sexual. (unless you think of kissing as sexual, which is completely okay)
    Zit = a pimple
    That Sucks = something that is not good, low quality, or unfortunate
    Zonked out = not used at all.
    Blitzed = not used at all

    These words and phrases change constantly every few years. My son likes to say an experience is really 'sick' which is a positive. When I was a teenager, I was using the word 'gnarly' in a similar manner. Some of these words like 'Ace' return every ten or so years. Certainly, 'Ace' derives from the highest card in a playing card deck.

    That's useful. Thank you so much. Can you explain what does SWAG mean?

    • @trevorsharp460
      @trevorsharp460 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Nguyen Y "Swag" is a bit hard to explain . . . It's a shortened version of "swagger," which is a way of walking with too much pride. it used to just mean a kind of fashion that's popular in America, but it's associated with teenagers, hip-hop music, bragging, and being full of yourself (prideful). People would say "they got swagger" to brag about themselves.
      Now swag is a kind of sarcasm (a kind of joke) -- if someone says that they "got swag" then you shouldn't take them seriously. They're trying to make fun of people who try too hard to look cool.
      Also sometimes people just yell "swag" when they're trying to be funny.
      I can post some examples later if you still don't understand, but mostly it's just a joke. Does that make sense?

    • @ynguyen2473
      @ynguyen2473 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I got it... Thank you for your answer:)))

    • @trevorsharp460
      @trevorsharp460 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Not a problem. :) It's also worth mentioning that many of things that she says are slang aren't really used by native speakers anymore -- my grandfather calls people 'ace.' I can totally see how she could get mixed up though, slang changes every 10 years or so and it's hard for native speakers to keep up.
      It's probably still worth learning, but here's a bunch of slang terms that are much more current:

    the place was ace? that's awkward sounding and would have asked what he meant by saying that. The context most people use ace is if they made a good grade on a test or did a good job on an interview. Also, cheesy....just wrong. cheesy is most of time used to described an over used idea or fashion. These are also just slag, not any "new" words used my today's teens. These videos are very informational and you should keep up the good work.

      +Lytning The term make out, is used by an American person. Though I've known English people use it.

    • @Luverforalways
      @Luverforalways 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That is pretty funny. I am american. If she's talking about people from the UK then maybe its different but most of these sound like US slang terms. I am incredibly familiar with all of these slang terms.

    I really appreciate her effort, but this lesson is for people 70 and older as anyone 50 and younger in USA is quite familiar with the meaning of all these words. However, she seems genuine, so let's give her credit for that...xoxo
