As an ex US Navy submariner I would say that if they're not on the surface they are likely dead. The subs are designed to resurface without any electrical power required. It's likely that some faulty maintenance was done or some bad seal was overlooked on some critical system that is exposed to sea pressure and that lead to instant flooding/implosion. This is just absolutely terrible.

Oh man, I truly hope they are on the surface! I have a fear of deep water and very small, tight spaces. My worst nightmare. You couldn't PAY me a MILLION dollars to go down in this sub! Thank you for your service and for your more experienced comment. 🙌🏽

Hopefully, they're floating around or it had an instantaneous failure and implosion. I couldn't imagine losing power and sinking in the dark to the bottom. I'm sure they would have emergency lighting inside, but what a nightmare.

If you have a lot of money you need to find way to help others and spend money to extinguish or eradicate poverty. Help the poor. We only need a place to live and a little food. But many people make money which is totally unnecessary. When they make all this money then they want to enjoy whatever the world can give them in this short period of time. They try alcohol, smoking, drugs, adultery, sexual perversions and all the other evil things in the world. Some may do things to become famous, adventures etc. The problem is that they will perish and go to their eternal home forever and they will never come back to life again. Whatever they made that will also perish with them. But only one thing is necessary for human. Fear the Lord. Love the Lord with all your heart and love your neighbors. Share all your blessings with poor people. Enjoy your life in helping others. When you die you will be with the Lord in heaven whereas the people in the other category go to eternal hell with Satan where they will be tortured forever. @@user-ih9dg3uz5y Common sense makes me think that.
They lost contact at 3km debt, they probably didn’t alarm anyone in the first hours because it happened before that they lost contact for hours.
So something happened at that debt and they alarmed for a rescue hours later, then even more hours have passed until search and rescue started.
That left them with maybe 90 hours of oxygen a few days ago.
There is 0 chance for a rescue deeper then 100 meters.
In the tiny chance that they came to the surface, that is a white painted half submerged tiny sub, in a giant wavy ocean, near impossible to find and no way to open from the inside to let air in.
Whoever build that thing should have at least painted it in orange or yellow, white in white waves is practically camouflaged in the sea.
And no, nobody in history has survived worse, the last 2 submarine accidents where in 140meters and 100meters debt, and nobody survived even tho the rescue knew where the location.

I'm a major Titanic enthusiast and would absolutely LOVE the chance to go down and see her, regardless of the risks or how much money I'd have to pay, but I understand that it's literally a gravesite, not a tourist site, and that I have no business going down there. The wreck is deteriorating quicker by the year thanks to rust-eating bacteria (AKA rusticles) eating away at what's left of her and the chance of tourist subs disturbing or all-out destroying something is incredibly high compared to science/research vessels. Hell, anyone going down to the wreck could cause damage, but frequent tourism drastically increases that possibility. Again, it is not a tourist site, it is a gravesite, and should be treated as such.

The more I discover about this business venture the more I think it’s a tragedy that was doomed to happen. A 20$ Logitech videogame joystick to pilot, a hatch that is bolted from the outside without any possibility to open it from the inside even when resurfacing (Apollo 1 disaster anyone?), carbon fiber composite in the hull absolutely unsuitable for this kind of depths, the sub approaching the shipwreck at a too close distance risking being entangled as a result, no communication system with the outside world apart from text messages, a viewport tested for only half of the aimed depth, no certification whatsoever… I am honestly surprised their imprudent adventure even lasted that long. I only hope that the sub imploded: at those depths it’s a matter of a split second and nobody would have even noticed. Or, of course, that it emerged somewhere, but given their amateur track record, I think unfortunately that’s highly unlikely.

The hull is constructed using traditional plain weave carbon fiber, this is the strongest form of carbon fiber weave and gets stronger with more load that is put on it, it has tensile strengths in all directions. Whilst steel would potentially be a little thicker, it wouldn't be as strong, it also would crumble once a weakness is formed where as the plain weave composite will just flex. I imagine the main purpose is for weight advantages to help with buoyancy.

True, everyone is different. However some risks are over the top for me, say jumping out of a perfectly good airplane or diving that deep in a piece of fiber or whatever that can crush or even that I can’t let myself out of even if the thing floated to the surface. At least with driving I have some control to miss an oncoming car etc., and my days of being able to even consider climbing Mt. Everest are long gone. I’ve done some other risky stuff that others would likely find unacceptable but they always involved a good measure of personal control to alter the outcome. I guess the whole thing of along for the ride with zero control to save my bacon is the part that bothers me personally.

The only upside to this is that their deaths would be so quick. Maybe even seconds with the pressure. Very very sad 😞
