    Brewing beer is awesome. I do it as a hobby, and it keeps my creative juices flowing. Some of those juices are chilled and lives in my fridge. :-)

    Very inspiring guys. I lived in Sewickley almost twenty years ago and I felt fortunate to be able to go to a State liquor store and get my beer. If there had been a craft brewery back then, I would have been the first customer. I am a homebrewer and I won an award at the Mid-South Fair (TN, MS, AR, and MO) brewing competition. I was beaten by a professional brewer by fractions. We homebrewers secretly harbor the dream you guys have realized. I'm so happy you guys worked together to achieve your dream. It seems like an infinitely more difficult thing to do on one's own. I still have the dream to provide my beer to the public, whether it be through a brewpub, keg sales to other brewpubs, or possibly a small-scale brewery. I think I'm going to have to get some friends involved.......

    The preacher's story hits home. I have a feeling that if my dream ever comes to fruition I too will have to choose between my church and my passion.

      I am a member of a Southern Baptist Church. It hasn't been too difficult so far, but some members of my family have been very opposed, and vocally so, from day one. But guess what...we started renovations TODAY on our 6,000 square ft. building. Chase your dream, or you'll regret it for the rest of your life.

    • @silveravnt
      @silveravnt 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you Chris. I too am Southern Baptist. I live in a rural farming town. The type where your wife knows you got a speeding ticket before you get home. Our preacher is very against any alcoholic beverage and so are some of our elders. Of course there are many others in the church who either partake or don't care if others do. My family is supportive even if my mom would prefer I stay in my current line of work.
      Joke: Jewish people don't recognize the divinity of Jesus. Baptist people don't recognize each other in the liquor store.

      There is nothing wrong with drinking beer , wine , mead . Jesus turned water to wine . It's when its abused that it becomes a problem . I dont drink beer to get drunk . That's not my end game . I like to try different craft beers and enjoy the aromas and tastes of each one .

    To me there's are curious elements to craft beer and the marketing (sales) process. All things being equal in presentation,there must be an understanding that each individual customer has their own taste preferences;so the selection will fall in their category. I like specific craft beers for their uniqueness of flavor and body in my chosen category. Also...you may be a brewer that provides a great product to a distribution point,such as a bar,tavern or food establishment and those establishments may not keep the lines cleaned or may not serve the beer cold enough,resulting in a poor reflection of the product you worked so hard to perfect and establish. Just my thoughts!

    This doesn't make any sense: Being rejected from being a pastor for making beer... Many churches and abbeys made beer. Church and beer go way back

      A used canning line recently ran a brewery here in Georgia 3-4 million....that's one item. And they thought it a real bargain. 30 barrels of production - equipment alone (I'd do 2 10 bbl and 2 5 bbl) using stuff like brewha gear - only because it would not require employees to run it...it's one man gear. That's about 40K right there. We're not even gonna discuss brite tanks or the fact that EVERYTHING (plumbing) needs to be 304/316 stainless. You need some place to put it all - that's a building ($$$$$$) or rent. You gotta have ALL this done before you can brew a single drop commercially - AND you need all this done before you get the inspections, licenses, insurance, etc.)...You have to charm the distributors to carry and merchandise your brew - that's going to cost you a good bit. Taproom - to renovate one is easily $250K. You might as well sell your competitors wares alongside yours in the taproom - selling anything is helpful to keep the lights on. We're leaving salaries and compensation out of scope for this discussion. Bottom line - you need backers willing to RISK 6-8 million dollars. There's no guarantee they will see a profit for several years, if at all - that's a hard, hard sell. Most breweries are not that profitable until they get to 100 barrels a day of production...then they can breathe. That's 31,000 gallons of beer a day or 155,000 gallons a week. Long days, low pay - it's nice dream but far from practical. If you have 5-6 friends and they have their houses paid for and a retirement package already - sometimes you can make this plan work, but more times than not, you end up with 5-6 enemies (frenimies?) and everyone going back to work with their wives filing for divorce.
