    I'm happy to see this. I've never been to a book promotion event, so this is especially interesting to me. The author talking about her book and her interaction with the audience reveals other dimentions. I love this straight talk face to face with her audience too.

      Her daily letter is superb.
      She came out of nowhere as far as national…her students knew her. Sidebar is…she put sub stack on the map.
      That’s how we know HCR is heaven sent…the readership off the charts. Heavenly.

    How significant is the 2001 "Weyrich Memo," penned by Eric Heubeck under the auspices of Paul Weyrich, and otherwise known as "The Integration of Theory and Practice: A Program for the New Traditionalist Movement"? What we are seeing play out today, which has been building slowly since the Powell Memo in 1971 and ramping up since Bush V. Gore in 2000, seems to be straight from the Weyrich playbook.

    Being a HUGE fan of HEATHER COX RICHARDSON, I can understand how she's having increasingly difficult time deciding what to write about. Life these days, is so FULL OF HAPPENINGS, it's dizzying. Bravo to Professor Richardson for all of her well intentioned LETTERS FROM AN AMERICAN. It is always a significant and important framing of the history of everything is that brings us to the present. Truly inspiring 🎉

    I wish she would talk more about the twisting of the truth of issues of DEI and Gender Equality. Because the evangelicals and some of the people who back Trump, have been misinformed on some of the facts about the DEI and LGBTQ issues. [however, it is not good to have "WOKE" history in schools forced and the gender sex change issues pushed on kids in school ]. Whether it is true or not matters not. What is important is that they have become convinced in some belief that may not include the pertinent facts.

    Adam Reilly is in deep water, way over his head wrt HCR. What an embarrassment his performance was. I thoroughly expect an apology from him to the audience for the inexcusably idiotic comments he made. Repeats the same question over and over when he does not get the "correct" answer he wants. Contrary and snide . A little fish who can't swim. He's been hooked.

    Should we destroy the system? No but it can be tweeked. How about term limits for Supreme court justices? How about representatives must be elected in state wide elections not local districts? How about term limits across the board? How about justices get elected instead of appointed. How about guns are not an incontesible right. How about automatic restoration of voting tights after succesfully serving criminal sentences. How about explicit separation of church and state. Hiw about guaranteed bodily autonomy.?

    Democracy is when those who make decisions on your behalf have the duty to ask for your consent first. Today's republics are actually modern oligarchies in which the interest groups of the rich are arbitrated by the people, that is, you can choose from which table of the rich you will receive crumbs. The "fatigue" of democracy occurs when there is a big difference between the interests of the elected and the voters, thus people lose confidence in the way society functions. As a result, poor and desperate citizens will vote with whoever promises them a lifeline, i.e. populists or demagogues. The democratic aspect is a collateral effect in societies where the economy has a strong competitive aspect, that is, the interests of those who hold economic power in society are divergent. Thus those with money, and implicitly with political power in society, supervise each other so that none of them have undeserved advantages due to politics.

    Why hasn’t Ms Richardson touched on RFK, JR’s run for the Presidency as an independent?

    • @leatui7
      @leatui7 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Because virtually nobody on the planet truly believes if we just leave dealing with climate change to market forces (hello? Exxon?) that will take care of it al Nt even RFK Jr. believes it.

    Does Professor Richardson address the stunning success of the RFK, Jr. campaign? Does she mention the great unhappiness amongst voters toward Biden and Trump? Or, is RFK, Jr.'s campaign dismissed due to a typical East Coast elitism that dismiss any presidential candidate who is not control or owned by Wall Street and Corporate America interests. It is my hope that Professor Richardson will address the realistic prospect of a legitimate 3-way presidential race. And the real possibility that democracy will be revived and take place in 2024.

    • @leatui7
      @leatui7 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Vaccines don’t cause autism. Without vaccines, would you like to deal with smallpox and polio? And do you honesty believe Wall Street and Corporate America would, if we got rid of regulations, take care of climate change, as RFK claims it will (even though he doesn’t believe it)?
      Don’t believe polls 1 year out or 6 months out. Unless they’re valid .

    How do we get our country back is a question being asked by conservatives as well. As to punishing the south, I had understood that southern leaders could no longer hold public office. Also, the idea of southerners paying (more) for their rebellion is not consistent with the lessons of WWI (where we did impose penalties) vs WWII (where we did not save for maximum German leadership - and provided significant resources to rebuild).

    38:16 exactly opposite. Eliminating the “ control groups” ie. the electoral college and the current system of electing the senate would be a logical next step in liberalizing our democratic republic. Limiting executive power, mandatory voting and investing in public education, especially civics education, would also help
