I really like the idea of treating tops separately from WIP. It makes another list but makes the overall process of completing something more manageable.
I do enjoy keeping a quilt journal I picked up several years ago of quilts I’ve completed. I’m up to 105. I keep notes on dates, size, pattern, batting, quilting, who I give it too, etc., also other incidental notes in case I make the pattern again. I jot notes as I go in another notebook in case there is a time break in sewing or solutions discovered as I’m going. I take pictures of front, back, quilting, label, etc. and keep on my phone/iPad. It’s really nice to haves picture with quilt and receiver. A planner as well is a very good idea. Thank you for your TH-cam chats. I’m not on Facebook so I really appreciate your advice, encouragement, knowledge a lovely personality.
Hello Pat, I was introduced to the Quilter’s planner in 2017 by watching a video on how to make the planner cover by Laura on Sew Very Easy on TH-cam,; when I was first learning how to quilt. I love The Quilter’s Planner, I have been able to not only track projects, but to organize, and understand the quilt process fro. Inspiration, color, fabric selections, finding a bloc and pattern, cutting, piecing, assembly, borders, quilting, binding and labels. I like how the project section is setup to include swatches for the projects, I did not realize how many projects I was working on u til I began to track! I liked it so much I brought again in 2018 and The Quilter’s Planner was even better. However, I missed but realized how valuable it is and purchased my 2020 Quilter’s Planner. I think the best part of the Quilter’s planner are the patterns, one for each month, quilting ideas weekly and the valuable references. I could go on, however, it is a great tool!
Good morning, I purchased a Clever Fox 13 week planner. On Monday I started filling it out in preparation for 2020. There are up to 5 goals. I have 3 so far and one is my quilting projects. I just started quilting this summer and have fallen in love so much that I have signed up for 15 BOMs, mystery quilts, and a swap. This planner walks you through the process of the goal all the way through daily tasks. I am excited to use this planner but it is a lot of work setting it up. As time goes I will be watching your videos and comments to see how the other planners are working as well. Thank you for your chats.
I love your idea of word of the year and when you said Possibilities I knew that was my word for 2020! Thanks for that. I am enjoying your chats and just completed Winter Fun (a little late!) And really enjoyed it. I am going to set goals-family, financial and fun, and track my quilting projects. I had some major life changes in 2019 and know that 2020 is nothing but possibilities! Thank you for everything you share and do, Quilters make the best communities.
I think a planner would help me to plan! My projects seem to be all over the place and this would probably help me with project organization and to keep track of what I've made and what I want to work on in the future. Love your chats Pat. Happy New Year!!
Hi Pat, Another person thinking of a word of the Year. I thought of Joy or Joyous but saw you had it not long ago. Then the word Renewal or renew came to my thoughts. I believe it works in a couple of ways as in quilting, it means taking something old & making it new again. One of my friends does this especially well when she goes to the thrift store & buys clothing that doesn't even look worn & uses that to cut up & quilt with. Renewal- is to rest & organize yourself for better functioning in the future. There is physical renewal, resting & retreat, mental renewal, again resting, preparation & organization. And finally spiritual renewal, putting away old ways of thinking & starting new ways of thinking. Much of this reminds me of what you have already started to help us to begin. Begin new ways of cleaning you're sewing area each day. Using our scraps up to be more versatile in quilting, but also more thrifty with our $. Which is I believe why quilts came about in the first place. Thank you Pat, I really enjoy your popping in and wish you continued great success in 2020. Jen
Some have such good information but are difficult to listen to. You have such a nice, friendly voice and, of course, your cute smile. I can already tell you will be one I will follow. Happy New Year!
I would love to do a planner together. I saw your video on the planners and loved the idea of using a planner. I ordered the scrappy planner and it arrived yesterday. I’m ready for a wonderful year of quilting.
Happy New Year, Pat from outside Ft. Worth, TX! My word for 2020 is optimism! We are preparing our home of 39 years 17.7 acres, 3 barns home of 2100+ square feet! Should be photographed and on market by middle of January!!! Have completely dismantled and packed up my complete studio! Won’t be able to sew or cut for at least 6 mos.! Will continue to watch and cheer you gals on!
PLAN would be a perfect word for 2020....I just read through others comments and it has been suggested and in your recent CHATS has been a theme....the foundation of success in any project is to PLAN....a beginning a middle and an end....like you just said, “A, B, C....”it is all part of the PLAN to complete any project. Keeping it simple pick a day of the month to have us report on our PLAN...a list of quilt projects, or one quilt project...we would all benefit from each others planning and reporting.
I would like to know how to get one of your planners. Thanks queennana5@yahoo.com this sounds like a great way to keep track of my work. KATHY Hertenstein
That is a great plan Pat. I often forget what quilts I have done because I forget to take pictures of them. I give a lot of quilts to family and friends so it would be a good reference to show what I have done but also I like the concept of forward planning to keep me from underestimating how long it will take me to complete the quilt.
I am so excited to be giving my good friend the Quilter’s Planner tomorrow! I have the Lori Holt version which I would love to do the challenge with. Congratulations on 20 years in business! Looking forward to what you have planned for 2020. Happy New Year!
You are so inspiring and I have enjoyd your ideas which has helped me to get my self super organised. I get your youtube posts late as I live in New Zealand but I always try to catch up.
I like the idea of the planner. I need help with being and staying acredable and I think this would help. I always look forward to your fireside chats, love them and you. Happy New Year!
I am joining a quilting group. I cut some squares and made four blocks. I need to track my progress. I need to finish a journal. I need to finish my cushions I need to make a quilt and another. I am over faced and need a planner. Would use it and need to use what I have.
Happy New Year! Yes using a planner this year will help organize my projects. It will keep them in the forefront of the my day. I like this challenge and am looking forward to sewing the four square along with the Out West quilt I’m with you on planning on New Years Eve. Stay Joyful!!
I've never used a planner but I am intrigued by the projects one. I also make greeting cards so maybe a planner would help me reach my goal of making and sending cards every month. How about organization as your 2020 word.
Love you fire side as always and I would love to join in using a planner will get looking for a scrappy planner and would to start my new year learning and I really hope the new year will be better than this one and Thank you for letting me join such a wonderful Family. 💕
Hey Betty! this post was from a year ago and I can barely remember what i talked about yesterday. Do you mean the traffic jam pattern? The purpose of that pattern is to make a scrappy quilt with 2.5" squares, those are not really that small. if you mean something else then email me at pat@patsloan.com with a link to this video
Hello this is my first time watching you. I am from southern Alberta Canada. I am a beginner sewing 🧵. I am thinking that I needed somebody to keep me motivated... I have subscribed... I am really not sure if you are going to even see my post.
When a person does not have any quilting friends, it is so nice to have person like you who give me so much joy. Happy New Year.
Happy New Year Linda!
I like the Scrappy Planner!
That little table seems perfect to raise your working height for cutting fabrics. That way you will not get back ache. Wonderful!
I really like the idea of treating tops separately from WIP. It makes another list but makes the overall process of completing something more manageable.
I would love a planner challenge. I have a planner for every day. Thanks Pat.
The very best to all in 2020, and thank you Pat for all that you share.

"Intention" sounds like a good word to choose for 2020!
I'm so glad you are adding other things like gardening to give you life.
Word suggestion for 2020 is VISION - seeing the year clearly (20/20 vision) & focusing on whatever is important to you! Happy New Year!🎊
