- There is ONE SPECIES of fish that gets requested more than any other.. You guessed it. People wanted more carp. Just kidding, but seriously.. People have been requesting pike for a very long time, and whelp, I missed catching them. So I set out with some crummy smelt, waxies to catch bait, 4 tip ups, and panty optics in search of a 40 inch tooth ridden dong fish. Let's make it happen. PAAA POWWW!!!

You should roadtrip up to Michigan at ice out for a Steelhead/Brown and Smelt dipping extravaganza dipping smelt is a blast that alcohol is involved with. Vaccumn pack a bunch of the big Smelt and you will be golden

Ive been drowning worms and practicing casting here in ca for 2 yrs. Nothing but a little green catfish and one grass carp. Blue gill or crapi would be nice!
If you can get them, 6-8" mackrel or herring are the best. The oil in them is key. We get them at any big box grocery store

That's one of the things I like about my state you could use any game fish for bait as long as it's legal size and you did not exceed the creel limits

Tip up pike fishing is the best . My pb is 39 1/2 inches . If you debone pike cube and quick boil in 7up they taste great
*These work with rod and reel or tip ups **enjoyable.fishing** recommend it’s good for keeping snow out of the hole and to greatly slow hole freezing. They are not heavy so need to be held down by tip up or some snow/ice shavings if windy. Have not had them freeze down even when placed in wet ice shavings.*

We use live shiners, creek chubs and sucker minnows in Michigan. Always used live bait

I'm so impressed with your diligence, I was out on the ice yesterday, caught 3 Trout right in a row. So I thought I would try to get the 4th on camera. . over the next 2 hours. . . lost 4 trying to get the 4th on camera. . . .and then lost the bite altogether 🤦♂

Here in North Idaho we catch and eat alot of pike. Best freshwater fish to eat in my opinion. Most of the ones I clean have crappie in their stomachs. They're invasive here. They pay a bounty on them and gillnet them. They're still everywhere.

They use smelt here in UK alot. I had a toothy one yesterday on gliderbait. I dont have energy to bait up for pike. So i fish them with lures all year around. Pike 9 for the season for me. Cant wait for spring. Helped one of them youtubers the other day landing a 21lb pike on perch rod and 8lb braid 🙈 turned out ok eventualy. Great film again tashmaster. Stay safe

Hey Josh I finally joined the 40 club with a 43 inch pike I caught this last weekend
Try a dock demon! Ya it's a kids pole but it's got a back bone for a nice short ice rod. No it's not super sensitive but it's a fighting stick

They are frozen but some Walmarts sell smelt in the frozen seafood section. They are gutted and all that so I’m not sure if they would be worth the try.
As for rods, have you tried the whisker seeker MH ice rods? If not then I have one or more I’ll donate to the cause.

I prefer the blue setting on my livescope also dropping the gain might help. Unless that isn't a thing for ya. I'm in mn n have a better time seeing fish on the blue/pan optics looking setting around 56-58 gain
