The previous Astro games all had subtitles and were just colloquially called "AstroBot" games, so I hope this new game simply being titled after the character is so that they can build this into a series of platformers long term. It could end up being the next "Jak & Daxter", "Ratchet and Clank", or "Sly Cooper" which I am 100% in for.
I'm 100% on board with Astro becoming the next platform platformer of the brand. The ps5 launch game was fantastic from beginning to end and took me right back to my childhood, I was only disappointed with how short it was. So bring on more Astro!
It won't. Less than ¼ of PSN accounts have the trophy you get for finishing the first level in Astro's Playroom, a game that comes pre-installed for free with the system. Astro Bot has flop written all over it.
@@mappybc6097 I don’t know where you’re getting your numbers but you also should do your math again. There are about 60 million PSN accounts of PS5 players. If a 1/4 of that are people who would buy AstroBot that equals 15 million sales, which would make it the highest selling PS5 game. If even 1/8 of all PS5 players bought the game it would put AstroBot in the top 5 PS5 games sold to date. How exactly would that be considered a flop?

Unless Sony charges 4,99$ or something like that, this game is flopping hard.

@@TMTGD yeah in 2017 and we still don’t even have a sequel announced for it . That is the game that got me to buy the Nintendo switch. It might be my favorite game of all time . I remember thinking wow I can’t wait to see what they do to their other franchises. And then in the proceeding 7 years, I’m lucky if I turn my switch on once a year. So I get it. It’s a me problem and it’s my opinion, but I find Nintendo to be very lackluster and only interested in making the cheapest game possible so they get the highest possible profit margins .

I wish the devs at Concord luck. Too many games with 5 v 5 gameplay are showing up with more on the way. The story could've worked as single player maybe, but this hero shooter game genre is starting to make people fatigued.
Well it’ll be hacked to hell because it includes PC and PlayStation hasn’t handled a competitive shooter on PC. It’ll be a wake up call.
This game probably would have been cancelled along with all those other live service games Sony recently cut, but it was probably too along in development to abandon.
The only way I could see this take off is because overwatch 2 is not in a great place right now, afaik

Concord would have been received better if it was more closer to Borderlands than Overwatch. In fact the characters reminded me of Borderlands
I honestly would have wanted it more if it had a campaign. Even if it's one you play with friends or solo. Just something to set it apart and pick up the ball where Overwatch 2 dropped it, by promising a campaign.
@@GhostofSparta-cy3mq It kind of makes me sad to know this game won't meet sales targets just because Sony as a publisher funds all of this and they didn't want to change the direction of the game because a higher-up liked it most with multiplayer. Such a darn shame, hope the studio doesn't close because I like their work.
@@Ordi_Ghost agreed, I don't think they'll be closed down if the game doesn't succeed. It's a shame that Xbox's business strategy is that and it puts stress on all developers for whatever platform. Herman Hulst is at the top now and he created Killzone. The first game sold well but was reviewed poorly. Sony knew that they needed more direction. Killzone Liberation came out in 2006 and was received very well. Then Killzone 2 was released and Killzone became a staple. The point I'm making is, Herman Hulst has been at the studio that didn't have the best first release and was given the opportunity to grow. Sorry for the long message, I'm just hoping Herman doesn't forget where he came from as a developer to now one of the top people at PlayStation.

I would have been interested in Concord if it was a single player game like Star Wars jedi survivor. The sci fi setting is fun and I like characters with some attitude, but I don't care about multiplayer games. Still I hope it will have some success as a lot of people probably worked hard to create it.

I feel like part of the reason they're forcing the PSN mandate on PC ports is to either inflate PSN numbers, force PC players to buy a PS5 or to eventually charge PS+ to access multiplayer on PC

Astro Bot needs to be something more than just a generic all-ages platformer that is a means to an end of a PlayStation brand advertisement and relying on nostalgia of their IP over and over. We've already done this before, more than once I think. We are retreading material here. Mario certainly doesn't need to rely on this cross-Nintendo IP referential shit so much. Even the lack of a distinct name for this game shows how lacking in identity the Astro Bot series of games are, as quality as they are. They're great games, but to say it looks "unbelievably good" is only because of how lacking everything else was in this show was, and has been for years. The fact that an encore of a free pack-in title is the most we can look forward to in a State of Play really is an indictment against how underwhelming these State of Plays routinely are and the state of the PS5 exclusive catalog. And this is the last remnant of Sony's PS1/PS2 sensibilities that put them on the map, everything else is trying too hard to be edgy and cinematic, and increasingly blur together like Ubisoft games. Sony's portfolio has become way too predictable. Nothing surprises me from them during these "E3" seasons anymore, MGS Delta is the only time I can remember being actually surprised. We need more Team Asobis, and they need to be free to make stuff other than celebrations of the days of yore and brand consumerism and being a glorified commercial or tech demo. We shouldn't be feeling nostalgia about stuff from 20 years ago when we could instead of be feeling excitement about what Sony projects are coming out TODAY, which is increasingly nothing but dull soulless riskless capitalism-driven projects like Concord and all the studios people actually like being in constant sleep mode as far as what we the customer are able to tell.

Are we all sure this works because I've had my plan canceled for a month now and I see nothing. Even with this Days of Play stuff I don't see a discount for PS premium or any of the other teirs which is crazy since I've had PlayStation Plus since 2010.

It's a shame to see Bluepoint as a "partner studio" alongside Nixxes, a studio dedicated to ports. After the Demon Souls remake, I had hoped to see Bluepoint allowed to make original games.

People didn't think highly of Helldivers 2 until it actually released, i wouldn't be writing anything off just yet. If Concord can nail the combat and progression, as well as introduce interesting new characters, it might do better than people think

It ain't my type of game don't like multiplayer shooters but there's every chance it could soak up some of Overwatch 2's dissatisfied player base if the core gameplay is well done
Sony's screwed up their goodwill. Even before the "get used to not owning games" slip, alot of people were annoyed by how overpriced consoles in general and how few games especially the PS5 had to it's library, other than the few Sony exclusives.
As for Helldivers2: you can't just point at a success and suddenly discount all of the string of failures, considering what just happened the last few months Helldivers2 and Stellar Blade are basically succeeding *in spite of Sony's best efforts* , not because of. Worse yet, in what seems to be the style as of late: they show no sign of actually learning from these mistakes going forwards. If they do it will be a pleasant surprise, but I'm not betting on it.

You're wrong about the pc audience not buying consoles. I actually swtiched from pc to console a few years ago and even though console is far from perfect, it has some advantages which so far have kept me around.
Same here buddy. I am getting old and I think one of the reasons why I made the switch from PC to console gaming is how simple it is to play games. I'm sure several old folks here can relate. 🙂

Same here. PCs are too fiddly and require upgrading more frequently just to keep on top of performance and graphical changes. Not to mention the initial cost of getting in to the ecosystem. For many people consoles are just a better convenience
I generally am a pc person now and have been since 2005, I still get PlayStations for exclusives and to have for a few other reasons. Had some Xboxes but the lack of exclusives make them a no buy now. Most things I do via pc.
Consoles certainly have their purpose and having competition between consoles mean that it’s good for us consumers, they provide more for less to get one up over the competition.
Have been with PlayStation since the 90’s and it’s the amazing turn of events that Xbox’s existence has helped the PlayStation franchise. For those that haven’t seen it, mystic did a documentary video that’s worth checking based on the ps4 development post ps3/xbox360 battle.
I regret buying a PS5, the library just isn’t there for me and I like so little of Sony’s exclusives. Stellar Blade and Rise of the Ronin are 6 out 10’s for me.
The problem with Concord is there XDefiant, Valorant and Overwatch 2, The Finals etc already out. Now if Concord was a co op looter shooter like Borderlands THAT would have been epic!

Xdefiant will die in a month or so, Valorant is still popular but its more like CSGO, Overwatch is slowly dying, The Finals is already dead. There is room in the market, i know this isn't believable for many console gamers since a lot of them (and PC gamers) hate Overwatch and Valorant - they both have big casual audiences.

I actually didn't mind Concord. People hate on hero shooters like there aren't like 3 that have ever actually succeeded. Looks like Lawbreakers which I loved

PC players don't even like other launchers or extra logins for their games. There's a very small chance that they will jump on buying a console. I have a PS5 and PC but thats cause I already invested in a PS4 library close to ten years ago at the same time as Steam.
Sony is sooo wrong. Releasing all PlayStation exclusives on PC will not increase console sales, actually it will decrease it. To give you an example, I own a PlayStation 5 but I'll not buy a PlayStation 6 because of this decision. I'll get a nice Gaming PC instead since Exclusive games are not relevant anymore. Also, there is no need to pay subscription to simply PLAY ONLINE on PC

You don't have to pay to make a PlayStation account you only have to pay to play online and that's what PlayStation Plus essentially is. 🤦♂️

@@miguelgarcia-bq9ge I just said you do have to pay to play online that's PlayStation Plus but it's free to make a PlayStation account. Sony didn't ask for PC players to sign up for PlayStation Plus their subscription services but just to make a PlayStation account and Free 2 play games doesn't need PlayStation Plus to play online. So games like Fortnite, Warzone, and Overwatch you can play without PlayStation Plus on PlayStation but everyone on PlayStation needs an account.

Yea I just can't get excited for the PS2 backwards compatability when I'm expected to buy the games over again when I still have my original Sly Cooper PS2 disc. Over on Xbox if I want to play Tomb Raider Legend for example 1st of all I can play the Xbox 360 version not the original Xbox version but if I have already bought it digitally on any prior Xbox hardware then it's already available to download in my library and if I have a physical disc I can actually pop that in my Xbox Series X and play it. The fact Sony requires you to pay them again for the same classic games you already own is bullshit and then the fact that they wanr you to sign up for their most expensive tier of their subscription service just in order to get the handful of classic titles they trickle out to us is absolutely pathetic.
If Concord was a co-op story driven heist game, as the CGI Trailer implied, it would have been awesome.
It seems like Fairgame, the other Sony game to be released, will be covering that angle. However, you’re not wrong. Still don’t know what game modes they have and whether they can add something via updates in the future.

Its basically a dollar tree destiny clone with an overwatch/guardians of the galaxy paint job.
I assume all those live service games Sony recently cancelled were in a similar vein to this (not all Overwatch clones, but generally unoriginal copies of popular games) But this game was probably too far along, with too much money spent, to abandon like all the others.

@@unicorntomboy9736 We all know that Sony was very gung ho about live service games (probably a Jim Ryan idea) up until recently. This studio, along with a few others, was bought so Sony could have dedicated live service developers.
I have no idea what will become of those studios now that Sony seems to have cooled on their feelings on live service. Hopefully Sony will put them to work on other games, or maybe as support teams, rather than shuttering them like Tango Gameworks.
The only games I was interested about from the state of play was behemoth and astro bot and yes I am pretty disappointed about astro bot not having a psvr2 mode and hopefully when psvr2 gets a pc release hopefully you can play half life Alex or hopefully it gets a ps5/psvr2 port, I don't understand why people think Sony has given up on vr.
11:24 typically yes, but UEVR showed that sometimes VR just works with the click of a button like for Spyro Reignited or Crash 4
The thing with Astro is I’m less bummed about this new game not getting VR2 support, but rather Rescue Mission still being landlocked. Sold my VR1 to afford a VR2 and figured that would be one of the earliest ports but we’ve yet to see anything about it beyond some rumors it’s coming. Hopefully they release a port soon to really drum up hype around the headset and Astro Bot’s new game!

They're absolute fools for thinking that releasing games just a few years later on PC will make PC players buy a PS5. They'd get more sales for each title, that's for sure, but they're not selling any more consoles because of that. If they care about PS5 sales, they should focus on making great exclusives that never touch another console in at least the first 5 years. That'd make a PS5 more valuable, if you can play PS games everywhere then buying a PS5 is a waste. They're shooting themselves in the foot.
I actually thought CONCORD seemed quite good. Nowaday people just label a product bad bc it is not what they expected ... the gameplay and loop just have to be fun and entertaining ...maybe it might be the next Fortnite or Apex Legend
Man I had high hopes for Concord being a single player game but my hopes were crushed when I saw what Firewalk studios had in mind for it this is the price we pay for HellDivers part 2 being so good I really hope that single player gaming will still be around for years to come.

Yep, as a PS VR2 user I'm definitely moving to PC to enjoy a backlog of PC VR games I've never tied yet. PlayStation have essentially abandoned PS VR2 as this point.
They don't really care about hardware sales anymore, same goes for Microsoft. They want software sales. Thats what makes them the most money and because of their greed they are willing to damage the Playstation brand. Hardware sales will decrease significantly in the long term and after 10 years or so they will ask the same question Microsoft does now: Why is nobody buying our console?

The worst part of Sony requiring a PSN account for PC gamers is many people don’t have access to the PSN in their country so it unnecessarily limiting their PC audience. It’s a weird move to require that anyway.
The PSN over Steam thing is a out Sony recognizing the double of other publishers requiring the same thing and not getting any backlash. Also, the people that will never buy a console were never going to be reliable customers buying PlayStation games on PC

Here in the EU we get 25 eur off of a dual sense controller, so that’s 49.99 EUR for a controller which is a great deal. And even better, through ps direct that applies to any color, even Sterling Silver which was just introduced this year
PS+ price hike and lack of a native playing handheld is pushing more to PC. How have they not released a handheld? It should have been in development to release alongside the PS5 or after the 1st fiscal year. The handheld space on PC is now well established and specifically with Steam the integration is seamless. I know the number of people who are shifting to PC might be small but I've been adopting PC more lately. In the last month I've purchased about 21 games on Steam, a RTX 4070 Super, new ITX case, upgraded to a Steam Deck OLED, and a Scuf Envision Pro. That could have been digital games on PS, a PS handheld, a PS5 Pro, and another DS Edge with money to spare. I wont be leaving the PlayStation ecosystem entirely but I am not buying their handheld or PS5 Pro now with my recent investments, and wont be renewing PS+ for the foreseeble future.
Soon as PS+ prices went up, i let my sub lapse and eventually sold my PS5. Don't miss it. I dont think there will be an exclusive game that'll make me come back for a long time, especially with the way they're handling their IP's

pc dudes will never buy a console. it goes more likely the other way around. the more games sony releases on pc, the more ppl will drop the console and get a pc.
but if sony wants to lose money let them do it (steam cuts 30% on every game, no mtx on psn for 3rd party games, no ps+ money, no sells for hardware accessorys like the portal).

Now not even the third party wants to be Playstation exclusive anymore. A lot of Franchises that made me stay on playstation since PS1 are not exclusives anymore and I'm not really a great fan of the majority of ps first party. I don't know if i will stay on the playstation to see the end of this generation like that. The slogan "the best place to play" turned into a joke. The only console that still protects its individuality are the Nintendo Consoles .

Good point, the harsh truth is that it's about stopping any bleeding of console players moving to PC, but obviously he can't say that to investors. A pc gamer would rather spend the $500 on a GPU upgrade than a console to play one or two sequels.
Yes, you can include me as someone who bought a PS5 and has only bought 3 games for it because Sony did a sly bait and switch on me. They will make a lot less money on PC I can assure you of that. Sony won't make as much money as a non platform holder which is exactly what they will become if they follow this strategy.

I'm on the opposite side here. I'm not interested in Astrobot. I'm more interested in how Concord will perform, I played a classs shooter before but since Firewalk is composed by Ex Destiny Developers I'm somewhat interested.
Focusing in efficiency is the best strategy, I would like that they not only cut development costs but also try to speed up the process. Some good ideas are arriving too late on the market.
As for the PC strategy bringing PSN store to PC can be an alternative, PC and Steam should be seen as the same thing. But taking a maketshare there would be very difficult.
I used to be a PC gamer primarily until I started my life as a working adult. PC hardware were getting more expensive and while I had a stable income, I have other responsibilities as well, and console makes more sense for me now.
My hope is games will always be multi platform, so everyone have a choice.
