I feel like EVs should get cheaper and easier to maintain. People who might not be car enthusiasts but prefer to fix their own cars for cost efficiency should be able to do so. People who have more important stuff to worry about like having reliable transportation over saving the planet shouldn’t have to choose. We’re a minority as far as car enthusiasts. If we want to keep our gas powered cars, I think we need to have general population cars more accessible to the people who absolutely need cars and don’t have local public transportation. So long as oil companies keep gas pumps available for us in the minority, we’ll be fine.

problem is that they will tax gas powered car registration and gas prices so much that you will basically be paying 10x the price of an electric car, I live in California and they are doing that already. they will promise you can keep your gas cars and that they would never even think about trying to take them, but then they will turn around and make it financially impossible for those who dont spend thousands of dollars on mods alone, the daily driving car enthusiast will have to settle for an ev.

Read every comment? Okay, here goes then, I'll give you an honest take:
I'd toyed with the idea of upgrading from a 25 year old car primarily in the name of safety. I then bought my last car based on an article I read about how exceedingly well it performed in safety testing. It turned out to be powered by electricity. That electric power train was also a novelty, and I like being just a little off the beaten path for whatever reason. I'm just wired to be attracted to "unusual" or niche tech.
Overall, the experiencing of driving and using it has been great. The only real complaint I have after more than two years of driving it is that it's expensive. It's far more expensive than a similarly nice-to-drive vehicle. Maybe also that it has also come with some social baggage and negative attention that I'd rather just not have to deal with. It's just a car. I wish I could park it down town without having to worry about some jackwagon keying it, causing thousands of dollars of damage in an instant. Nobody would give it a second look if it were a Corolla. They're invisible. I wish I had that level of anonymity when I'm out.
I'd probably have been better served with a brand new Camry or something similar, investing or saving the difference. They're not -as- safe, but they're still vastly safer than my old car. I'd never have known what I'd be giving up in terms of performance because I had never had a car that was truly fast before. The torque goes from 0 to 610 lb-ft as fast as you can smash the peddle. It's violent. A Camry isn't going to be that fun. Nor would I have been used to the convenience of always starting the day with a full "tank" and just basically never worrying about fueling up again outside of the occasional extended trip. There is never a good time to fuel up. It always feels like it comes at the worst time like on the way to work in the morning.
They're not perfect, and I'd rather have never experienced the truly good parts this early in the game. But, what's done is done and here I am. Trading for equal or lesser price now would feel like a downgrade. Trading for equal performance in the gas-powered world would cost a lot more than I can afford. I'm stuck, ironically, because they're good.

  • @bolt5564
    @bolt5564 3 ปีที่แล้ว +22

Electric cars aren't a problem. I love them because they are good for the environment and the instant torque is amazing, just look at Tesla and Porsche Taycan launches. What I hope happens is that most people drive EVs so that us car enthusiasts who want to keep our gas engines can keep our gas engines. But people can also experience the instant torque of EVs and that fun and save the environment.
In my opinion offering more choice is always better.

Fact, the environment factor should be your last reasoning to own a EV. Batteties use rare earth materials, that process from mining to point of sale equals a fully loaded Commercial truck with one million miles in the odometer. That's just to point of sale !! Now you gotta charge that puppy up.
Torque yeah, sure good luck being able to put it to the ground for long. Tire wear is a thing when your vehicle weights in at 4klbs+ there's a reason EV are not seen at flashlight shootouts. They do amazing for 1-2 pulls, then they're absolutely done !!!

@@bolt5564 one Tesla Battery before even being sold to the consumer has the same Carbon Footprint as a Semi Truck with 1 million miles in the Odometer. That fact right there shuts down EVs to anyone with half a brain and the ability to pay attention. There's reason EVs are hated by so many, people that can do their own research and common sense. We've had zero advancements in batteries, only how we charge them, make them etc basic composition remains the same. They still degrade, they're still hazardous to produce, store and dispose of. Now look at the short life of a EV, Tesla you can't even repair without Tesla taking you off the charging grid. Good luck mid trip charging !! If you can get your Tesla repaired via through Tesla, more than likely the insurance company will just total it due to downtime (6-9 months for repairs of even the smallest damages)
Hybrid I think is fine, capacitors to store electricity vs batteries for the bulk of the work. Look at F1 for instance, best of both worlds with zero downtime. EV will never have that, it's a Liberals fake promises to force a economic shift. EV technology isn't there by decades, tech trickles down from Aeronautics, Space and Racing to the consumer. Never in reverse, never !! EV when you sit down isn't feasible for 99% of the population. It's like trying to convince becoming Vegan helps the planet yet the vegan refuses to understand they're supporting the monoculture they claimed is causing so much harm in the first place.

I've had a heavily modified car (catless, big turbo, fuel system, etc.), and I've been heavily considering a model 3 over my next car as I've barely gotten out of state refs in the past. It's a hard topic though as I know ill always love a manual and the sound of an engine. However EV's just have so much to offer at a low price compared to gasoline engines.

The only thing I really have against EV's (at least for right now) is that they seem to only really be viable for people who live in certain areas. Mainly those who live in big cities/metropolitan areas, and/or places where winters are either very mild, or non-existent. Where I live, winters can be quite harsh at times, and I'm also in a somewhat rural area where the nearest tesla charging station (that I'm aware of) is a little over 15 miles from where I live. There's also the fact that I live in an apartment building, and an old one at that, with no access to a garage or anything so at home charging would be tricky, if not outright impossible for me. I also occasionally like to go on somewhat long road trips so "range anxiety" would definitely be a concern there. It's just not practical. There's at least a dozen gas stations that are all closer than the nearest charging station, and I can fill my tank a lot faster than I can fill a battery. It would save money but it would cost time. A lot of time. And that's just not worth it for me.

I would drive one n ive never seen one before in person. The first reason why is safety n the second is that it helps to reduce the increase of co2 imetions to the atmosphere. Theres always gonna be two sides to a story.
good couldnt exist with out bad nether could up with out down, so those who hate are just helping tesla grow.

I think ev cars are more environmentally friendly in the long run. It’d be better if the way we produced energy was 100% green.

YES, SIR! I WILL BE A CARD CARRYING EV OWNER ASAP. It has nothing to do about saving the planet, These cars are like that slim cigarette. (They came a long way; but you ain't seen nothing yet) You will have your gas cars. Despite what the news media is saying, the EV is not going anywhere. It's not nice for people to hate others for spending their hard earned money on cars they enjoy driving. People key 🔑 EV owners cars, ram their vehicles into EV owners cars, etc. The people who do these hateful things to others are worried about something. These cars 🚗 can outrun most gas-powered vehicles on the planet.

I’d drive a performance oriented EV. Current limitation right now are infrastructure and battery technology. I’d want to be able to recharge the vehicle in 20 minutes tops and give a range of ~ 100 miles in that time... and be as common as gas stations. Also batteries are heavy, they need to get lighter and have more power density.

    I hate them
1st the lack of sound, charging time, no manual, looks , emergency brake being a button, auto shut off when in red light fiture, auto pilot , lack of range, heavier means car haulers to carry less to be in compliance with weight regulations = less money as a trucker... and if u trying to go cross country it would be a nightmare since it might take u twice as long.... not to mention getting more distracted drivers using their phones and replacing batteries can cost more than a new motor and trany, I've seen tesla cars sent to auctions as total just cus it got hail damage even tho there's nothing mechanically wrong... what else u want.

I’m going from a gti to a Tesla since I drive 90 miles a day 4-5 times a week spend 50-100 in gas a week vs 30 bucks a month in electricity. Also for work I drive 18 wheelers 12 hrs a day so the driving assist/fsd will be helpful.

I’ve had several racecar/project cars, to include 2 corvettes (a C6 and a C7) and now I own a Model 3 Performance. I never thought I would until I drove one. I still want a fun little project car that might be gas powered in the future, but having the Model 3 is so neat and I definitely enjoy it

I don’t understand the hate for evs. I think if you want a diesel buy a diesel. If you want gas get a gas car. If you want an electric buy one. In my opinion you should be able to buy anything that suits your needs. I mean the USA is all about freedom of choice is it not?

Not a huge fan of even Tesla's styling tbh. We need cooler EV's to come out, current ones look like shitty postmodern econoboxes. Give me a sick EV affordable coupe and I'll seriously consider it.

I will stick with gas power cars till the day I die and I mean that. Hearing the engine turn on It's beautiful . hearing it purr like a kitten And pressing the pedal and all that torque all that power waiting to be released It's magnificent. A ev car yes you get a thrill out of it but doesn't last long. A gas power card does.
