Hi Guys just looking for an update as we are new cal ocean owners and need a new toper for upstairs, after seeing this vid this looks perfect. I am however finding it difficult to get one, any direction you or anyone can give us would be most welcome, (or is there a better one now) keep the vids coming you have helped us so much in getting the the van ready for our trips.
This mattress is indeed very nice. We got ourselves a Ultim Comfort Van mattress from Decathlon and it's even more comfortable than the seatosummit. For half the price. You gotta check it out in case you're in need of a new mattress ❤ We're driving a Vanster (Peugeot Traveller).
HI - thank you for the video. I would like to know if it is easy to fold in 3 (like the original vw mattress) - would love to know if the new version is worst/better than v1 - like to know if the material is waterproof ? Thanks :)
Interesting alternative to Duvalay. We have used inflatable mats and found them comfortable, with suitable adjustment of the air pressure. However, inflation and rolling up can be tiresome so decided on the Duvalay, 5cm gold, which can be quickly rolled out once the bed is down. Now used a couple of times and its reasonably comfortable. Not quite up to the home bed but something to look forward to on return.
Thank you for the video. I am looking at a topper but will probably go for a foam one, easy to unfold and fold up again. What's that little pump like for inflating? I like the floor in your conservatory.
Thanks! The little pump is a little slow for inflating but I suppose that is only to be expected when it’s so small. We find we don’t tend to use it these days for inflating as we just let it self inflate and that seems to do the job ok.
Great informative video I've always wondered how the self inflating mattress worked and now I do thank you.The best bit is that you can leave it in situ in the roof bed.Looking forward to your next video.
Thanks for this video. Can you keep it in the roof with the factory mattress? You seemed to have removed your original mattress when you shut the roof! And out of interest do you use it now, as it’s a year later ? If so with or without factory mattress?
You can only keep it up top if you remove the factory one and then deflate it. We used this one a lot and we also used an Outdoor Revolution one that we did a video on too. Plenty of choice out there!
Perfect timing for this to come into my feed as ours arrived today from Germany and I’m planning on using up top! Have you completely ditched the small mattress that’s supplied for the roof or have you tried with it? Thanks for the content!
hi great video and all my questions have been answered thank you and our mattress is on its way by courier hopefully in time for our hols. One additional question is where can you buy the mattress cover from that you showed in the video since I was just going to buy a fitted sheet.?
If you have an austop roof you could always unzip it and then pop the mattress through. Great mattress, I use two single mats and have to blow them up, so this is a slightly easier.
It’s funny you know, it only occurred to me after filming that I could have opened the tailgate and fed it in downstairs, and then for the upper bed I could have unzipped the front of the canvas to slide it in there too! Oh well, this probably made better video !!
Just got the latest version of these from Bergzeit - worth noting that the new stuff sack that comes with it is a larger compression type, so some of those challenges getting it in are solved.
I'm using it on the top bed, almost perfect, the only issue is that it doesn't breath well. So we usually keep only this one(deflated) on the roof, and then we add on top of it the factory down side bed topper. Done more than 80 nights with it, best solution I found so far. it usually takes me like 1min to deflate it, I open the two valves, fold it in two, roll it, sit on it and close the valves. For what I see on your video, it gets much compressed than in your video
@@CampervanTime Yes, I just stay on the top bed. The cumbersome part is to put the original comfort mattress back behind the seat. Also, I would recommend letting the mattress inflate a few hours before using and then i breath into it 4-5 times.
Hi - we're expecting delivery of our Sea to Summit mattress - and looking forward to the comfort! Just one query - we do want to leave the mattress upstairs, deflated as you describe - but I've seen somewhere that the mattress shouldn't be stored deflated - do you have thoughts on that? Thanks in advance - great video!
Well the mattress comes with a compression bag to keep it in, so I think what is being referred to is more about the valves themselves going hard if left in place for a long time rather than being regularly used. We treated ours with Vaseline to keep them supple and have had no problems at all.
@@CampervanTime I understand that Vaseline can degrade rubber over time. perhaps a special rubber lubricant would be better. thanks for the video, great info.
Hi - No I'm afraid not. With this one deflated you can't store it upstairs with the original mattress. There isn't enough space for that. We just took our original mattress out and left it at home stored away.
Well, we've actually now sold our S2S and we use an Outdoor Revolution version now (see our video on that). We don't use any other mattress/topper upstairs with it either. If we use it downstairs then we do use it with our normal 'bed extension' topper that is optional on the Cali from the factory.
Interesting and informative video, thanks!. I as was trying to find one of these that fitted my upstairs bed back in 2019 and couldn’t get the right size. In the end I got a Kingside Dunelm mattress topper and did your single duvet cover trick. It’s not swearty memory foam, seems more like an overstuffed thin duvet. Taking it down you pull it towards you, fold over the first third, same again pull it through the hole and use it as a super comfy cover for the bench seat, takes less than a minute. It’s so comfortable that my actress wife stole it to use in digs with knackered beds when she is on tour as an actress ….
There is one downside…. We miss out on all the “Carry on Camping” Style condom related double entendres you can crack whilst trying to get a rolled up inflatable mattress back into its stuff back…
I’m not too sure I’d want to try that as I wouldn’t want to bend anything in the roof mechanism etc. I understand what you mean, but the foam in the mattress is quite sturdy…
Hi ! I’m following your channel from Belgium, so pardon me if my English is poor ;-) I was looking for a good mattress for my California, as at 65 years old, my wife and I need a little bit of comfort. This video convinced us to order a Seatosummit comfort de luxe. The mattress arrived today and I wonder how long it will take before it finds his original shape and begins to inflate… because we are hurry to try it !
@@CampervanTime , Thank you ! I actually helped the mattress a bit with a small pump I ordered in the same time. I have a question: do you leave your mattress all the time on the upper bed ?
It depends. Sometimes we do if we are going away a lot (deflate it obviously). If we are not planning a trip for a while we bring it downstairs and put it back in it's bag. Remember you cannot store it upstairs with the original mattress in place - even if you deflate it.
@@CampervanTime Hi ! Today was the tryout day in the van. It’s pretty confortable ! I tried it on the bed above with and without the original mattress. It’s much better . The only thing, I find it’s moving a lot on the above bed, because the mattress is a little too small : how do you solved that ? I was thinking of a long stripe of foam on both sides…other idea’s ? In any case, thank you for inspiring me to buy this mattress!
Good question. Well, we haven't done anything to mitigate that because we like the fact it is slightly smaller and therefore less prone to touching the canvas (or iso-top in our case) and then wicking water through it if we get rain in the night. However, foam would work just fine I'd think - or maybe some way of fixing it to the velcro so it doesn't move around perhaps? Difficult to put velcro on the mattress as it squishes down of course.
@@CampervanTime Always a problem with pricing. Good to do but someone will watch this in 5 years and wonder why they can't find that price. Great videos that you are doing, very clever kit these mattresses, super space saving but we went the Duvalay route for the lower bed, bulkier but oh so comfortable.
Yes you can leave it folded up and on the rear shelf. You can leave it deflated up in the roof too if you don't have anything else up there at the same time.
Yes it is, although I think I read somewhere that they might have discontinued it from production now :( Can't understand why when it is so good and so popular!!
@@tooyoungtobeold8756 I’ve got a horrible feeling they may have discontinued it. We’re trying to look at the other options from Vango and Outdoor Revolution as they have cut outs too.
Good question. It is a little tricky, but certainly not impossible at all. I can manage it on my own (folding on the floor and rolling up a few times), and we even managed to get it back in the bag with the duvet cover on it too. The stuff sack cover is a tight fit to make sure it is as small as possible when it is in there. Some people also fold it in three semi-inflated and store it like that behind the bench seat downstairs instead of the VW one.
@@CampervanTime I'd like to have seen that in practice to be honest. We like to be able to fold the bed down and unfold the comfort mattress from inside, without the need to open the door, or venture out. Likewise in the morning, fold the mattress in three and pop the bench back upright. Would have been nice to have seen if that was possible with the S2S SIM too. Keep the videos coming. All good stuff. Thanks
Yes I completely understand what you mean. Sometimes the weather is so bad you just want to do it all from inside. I do think this is possible but the mattress would need a little bit of deflating first just by lying on it with the valves in deflate.

It does, I promise! They advise you to pack it away with the valves left unplugged, so when it is sat in it's back it does try to expand itself a bit, hence why it looks so tight in there. It's a good fit, that's for sure!!
But how does it feel when the other person turns a lot in bed? Doesn't the other person also wobble? (like a air mattress?.) Me and my husband like all your videos 😀 You're such a friendly couple
I’m glad we come across as friendly to each other on camera!! 🤣 Sarah says it feels fine - but we think quite a bit of this has to do with the new Froli springs in the upper bed, BUT we have tried it downstairs as well and there were no problems. We think it is due to the foam that is inside it, as it gives it much more structure. Hope this helps :)
cannot be rolled back up and fitted in original stuff sack unless you are a magician. I have three of varying sizes and it simply is impossible, especially if you want to use your time going on additional trips instead of wrestling with this………good luck….
