    As the father of a 18 month old it breaks my heart to hear about families who do not have enough to eat. I would literally sell all I have before I would let my son go hungry. Video games, tv, computer, guns, jewelry, cell phone, cable, stamps, savings bonds, books, dvds, cds, electronics, my car, anything. I would do anything for my child and I know these parents have done the same.

    It is so hard to find a job these days. If you have one and can afford to live then you are doing good. Let's hope you never get in a situation like this. I work every single day, pay my bills when they come in, have money in savings. If I lost my job and could not find another one for a while, I'd probably be in the same predicament. We should not judge. The job market is tough, extremely tough. College graduates nowadays are having a hell of a time finding a job. God bless everyone.

    As a child and a teen I was hungry. Many of times the only meal I has was either at a friends home or school.. My mother worked 80hrs a week and NO she did not buy things to suit herself. Bills, food and clothes. Reminder children grow and fast. I am humble to this. I have had hunger felt this and will do my best to help with this cause just as I said before and again. Please help and start a community garden and live stock too. I will and I will this so. No more will I just watch I will do!!

      It is because of liability issues that businesses and schools, etc throw out the food now. Perfectly untouched pizza thrown away by the boxes at school cafeterias instead of giving hungry students to take home. My older son used to try to start a campaign to get schools to feed the hungry but they would throw it away instead due to liability. So one kind cafeteria worker laid the boxes on the very top of the cans so he could take it and disburse it. That son is now a principal of a school! He is always helping someone.

Sometimes I feel that the situation in the world is so hopeless that I get really depressed. I used to be very intolerant like many other people. The crops rot in the fields because the migrant workers who used to pick crops were replaced by illegal immigrants who moved out into society for better jobs when they were able to get stolen identities of dead American citizens. Don't imply we need illegal immigrants in the fields. What we need is the "migrant worker" program back with the supervision it once had. Now they come in and as soon as a supervisor turns their back they take off into the nearest city and get on Food Stamps and Welfare.

    the sad thing about America is if you make a decent amount (middle income), you cannot apply for foodstamps and get approved. Basically, the encouragement to find a low income job is low due to losing benefits and struggling. I remember when my mama got a job at a gas station, she lost the food stamps we had. We struggled to get the bills paid and food were limited. Due to the pandemic, they are approving food stamps for people who would not get approved other wise.

    Just unbelievable. I work at a grocery store, and I see a lot of people that are on food stamps. Nowadays it’s very hard with the price of everything going up and up. The price of food is unbelievable, the price of gas in unbelievable, and it’s all because of one person. That person is our government. Inflation is plaguing many people and neighborhoods. It’s just sad to see these people struggle the way they do. There are a lot of jobs that are open out there, but the problem is nobody wants to work. Our world is turning upside down, and we need to do something to turn it right side up

      A 1lb jar of peanuts $1.50 on sale NOW in 2018 and your blender/food processor. I'm not on food stamps, yet I live on that budget because I cook from scratch and it's simply that inexpensive. This morning my breakfast was 2 eggs, a banana with peanut butter and a half a glass of whole milk. I took my wife out to lunch ($11) and dinner was salad with spaghetti and meatballs with enough left over for dinner tomorrow and perhaps even a bit for a lunch. I made the sauce and meatballs from scratch. I usually make a chicken or ham sandwich (we buy half hams and whole chickens for 99 cents/lb that I carve and use the bones for soup) on homemade bread (60 cents/loaf) for lunch with homemade chicken soup from the carcasses, cut up raw veggies/fruit and maybe a chocolate nugget or home baked good. On the same food stamp budget we have steak twice a month, pork chops the same. I make from scratch pizza once a week and for the $7 it costs to make, my wife and I eat 2 dinners and a lunch...it also beats the best pizza joint around. Throw in a salmon dinner and a shrimp dinner and that rounds out some pretty good eats on the cheap. During the last recession we had a 50 week unemployment stretch. We had an avalanche of cherry tomatoes from our garden and our local fish guy had 2lbs of wild caught frozen shrimp on sale for $15, so I made up a dish. I took the shells from the shrimp, sauteed them with a few aromatics and made a broth which was the base of the sauce. The rest was the cherry tomatoes, garlic, shrimp, farfalle and frozen baby peas. It wound up being about $1.50/serving! Good food is cheap if you make it yourself and ANYONE can do the same thing!

    Actually, look at Holly Sklar on minimum wage. Farmers are exploited in the same way, and those supposedly high 2007-9 yearly average farm prices, adjusted for inflation, are in the bottom 25% of all time prices. Subsidies have compensated corn farmers for only 1/6 of the reductions since 1952, wheat 1/5. So it's essentially the same, and the hidden corporate benefits are 6 x or 5 x bigger than the 2-3 hundred billion in farm subsidies.

For all we know, he is using a pack every three days to curb his hunger like anorexics do. :/ Again I'm not disagreeing with you... I'm only analyzing this from the smokers' perspective, Peace be.

    Sorry, anyone who can afford $7 per day to buy cigarettes should spend that money on food instead of getting food from a food bank. I spend $300 per month to feed 4 people. That's $10 per day to feed 4 people. The price of one pack of cigarettes would feed that one person. Shameful. Stop smoking and leave that food bank food for people who REALLY need it.

    Coupons gets you sugars salts and fats. If you try and live only on food that you can get with coupons, you will end up like that guy in "Supersize Me!" in no time. Coupons only make the problem worse by making sure that only those food companies get your dollar. That is not what needs to happen.

    Why aren't the adult children helping their parents???

    • @maryfields1382
      @maryfields1382 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It could be that the adult children don't live close by and honestly don't know their parent's financial situation. My elderly parents never minded asking for help with things like housecleaning, simple home repairs, rides to doctor appointments, etc, but they would NEVER ask me for cash. The one time I asked, I got the impression that I had hurt their feeling by even implying such a thing! Turns out they were fine. I think if they did need money, that would have been the most embarrassing thing to admit to their adult children.
