From a silver and goldsmith / gem cutter and someone that works with Baltic amber perspective: I kept waiting for them to talk about how far back in human history the use of amber goes. It's a deep history and just one of the uses of amber in ancient times was as a fire starter. Amber burns, as it burns and more of it melts the fire will just keep increasing. Given the battle damage visible on the castle and then the possible torching of it after, I've always felt the amber room burned. If that's true then nothing would be found of it after a fire bad enough to destroy an entire castle.

@@gonefishing167 A good friend that got me into working with Baltic amber was an older lady from Latvia on the Baltic coast, where much amber is found. During WW2 her father was taken by the nazis and never came back. Many years later she learned her father had be executed by them because they released the photos they took of people before executing them. Her fathers photo was part of that release. I love working with amber but there's a part of it that's bitter sweet to me because of her fathers fate.

@@eyetrollin710in no fire does absolutely everything vaporize.
Such an amount of amber, even after a direct hit would definitely leave traces that would be recognizable as amber.
And the KGB (back thrn Probably NKVD) has *STILL CLASSIFIED* documents what they found.
And unless they honestly (Moscow and honesty....)tell us IF they found something and they were just ashamed that they themselves bombed it or that they found absolutely nothing we will never know it.
If they found absolutely totally nothing. Then the amber room left the room it was in and its either still hidden in Königsberg
Or it made it out of Königsberg and was destroyed during transport (sinking of Wilhelm Gustloff for example or it made it out of Königsberg it is still somewhere.
Either they found some small tiny remains of it and didn't want the Russia/soviet citizens to find out that their own artillery or their own air raids destroyed it.
Or the found nothing then the amber room at least left the physical room it was in in the castle and it was transported somewhere else.

This documentary makes it appear as if the Amber Room had been Russian from the get go and only shortly mentions that it was crafted by Germans before being “presented” to the Russian Tsar.
But in fact is was a German art work ordered by the Prussian King Friedrich I for his Berlin Castle, designed by a German (Johann Friedrich Eosander) and manufactured by German craftsmen.
Although it belonged to the Russian empire later in history this is an important background story and not making that clear is a red flag in any documentary!

Who knows, was the Amber Room ever even moved at all? Considering that it has NEVER been found--I have to wonder if it ever survived the attempts to remove it from the Palace.

    • @AxGerm756
      @AxGerm756 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

It survived being transported from Germany to St. Petersburg when it was gifted to the russian Tsar and it also survived being transported to Königsberg because dozens of people saw it in Königsberg and some of them took photos of it. And some smaller artifacts which DEFINITELY belong to the Amber room were indeed found but (at least officially) they were stolen by some wehrmacht soldiers when it was moved from
St. Petersburg to Königsberg and not after it was last seen in Königsberg.
So yes it was moved at least twice. Amd thats is definitely confirmed.

The conclusion of detailed investigation undertaken by the allies after the war was that it was destroyed by fire in an allied air raid on a castle which had been targeted as an ss control centre.
Remnants recovered from the remains contained burnt amber with wood from the storage cabinets used for transportation.
    The Germans themselves
Told the enquiry that the last place it was stored together was at this castle and there was no doubt whatsoever that the burnt remnants in the ruins of the castle were all that remained of the amber room.

It was only legendary for treaser hunter. Russia had never interest on it. The Nasis stored it later in a castle basement in boxes. Amber burnes easily. The castle burned down at the end of 2WW. Where will it be today? Ashes .....

Yup when amber is "Heated above 200 °C (392 °F), amber decomposes, yielding an oil of amber, and leaves a black residue which is known as "amber colophony", or "amber pitch"; when dissolved in oil of turpentine or in linseed oil this forms "amber varnish" or "amber lac". I assume the castle eas never tested

Basically the red army destroyed it by accident during WW2, in order not to look like fools, the KGB said it was "stolen" or still is out there, yet also had the Germans in the 80’s build them a new one because they were too proud to admit any wrongdoing 😂

The Germans designed and craftet that particular thing for the Berlin Castle of the Prussian King Friedrich I.
It was only later traded to the Russian Tsar.
Although it then rightfully belonged to the Russian Empire and with that later the Soviet Union it was an important piece of German art.
The documentary fails completely in pointing that out.
