I'm so glad Windows96 is catching on. I actually discovered this guy by accident (as usual) with his track Facts from the Vibes album, and it was love at first sight. This is a very damn interesting channel. I'm glad that I found you. Vaporwave supporters became rare after people realized that it isn't just "their" funny meme.
I have Gradient Horizont on vinyl and I really enjoyed its chill sound. It felt like my great-great-great grandkid is at a play centre on some Martian colony base. (I need to listen to it and One Hundred Mornings ... missed the physical releases). Certainly an example of how one can continue that classic vapour sound without sounding like a [insert 2012-2014 vapour artist name here] clone, which is what I personally expect for the scene’s future.
FInally, I had a chance to revisit Gradient Horizont and One Hundred Mornings and, of course, listen to Enchanted Instrumentals and Whispers. This demonstrates someone who has great confidence in his own style and approach. Now he is seeking to perfect and, when so inspired, to give it a little push. All in all, I definitely like that very chill that very extraterrestrial. In a strange way, it reminds me of an electronic music artist I heard back in my college days - specifically through college radio (was involved in WCWM) - called Marumari. He did an album through Carpark (yes, that Carpark) called Supermogadon, which was in part largely inspired by Ray Bradbury's The Martian Chronicles. I would later associate it with the Katamari game that was one of the weirdest flash-in-the-pan obsessions of the early 2000s. Now, I associate Windows 96 with this. The music is strange yet familiar, otherworldly yet approachable and not falling into the easy routes. All in all, I'm very pleased with this sound ... ... And now, I need to kick myself for missing One Hundred Mornings =D
I think there's a point to the title, and what Windows said about the text. It's not going to be a big hit like what One Hundred Mornings was, but for fans of the artist, it adds color. It adds nuance to the artist in question. Enchanted Instruments and Whispers is an ethereal, floating fever dream, almost like you just woke up from a coma and are coming back to reality. You're not sure if you're still dreaming with all the slowness of the tempo, but the sounds are muffled. Warped. What's going on here is Windows96 trying to create the ache that is in nostalgia, but give it more of a tangible feel. I believe the word is melancholy if I had to find a way to describe it. There's this feel of days gone by, and WIndows is obviously trying to evoke some of the less-nice emotions. Instead of the clear, crisp cuts that you'd find in his previous releases, Whispers is nothing short of a technicolor dreariness. A depression not in grays, but in vibrant sadness. This also goes to show how far 96 has come with the clear sounds, and is content to use the less-polished sounds still sound so clear. It's the mark of someone who has practiced enough to let slower melodies take over, and the sheer control needed to make an album this slow not sound boring. It sounds contemplative, reflective, listening to bygone whispers of yesteryear. Or was it? What if it was simply all just nothing, and all this feeling is a pining for something that never really existed, and this album is that truth finally sinking in? Take time to think folks. 2019 is a landmark year in this genre, with the 10th anniversary of songs that defined what vaporwave is. It's grown from a little in-joke from music artists to an underground cultural revolution. Let's dot the world in the happier nostalgia while being aware that we can't bring back the past. Let's bring a happier groove to a world so desperately needing some joy and calmness. Whether its the uppy beats of a Future Funk classic, or whether it is a contemplative Broken Transmission, let's not settle for less with vaporwave. Let's show that this genre is more than just cultural rebranding. It's a rebirth.
Good to see that people still listen and support the best aesthetic out here, seems like so many people forgot about vaporwave after it's meme status died out. Long live vaporwave
I imagine another really cool direction that vapor wave will take in the future is it crossing with other genres of electronic music. Perhaps even into the EDM realm. Hear me out, it sounds weird at first, but isn’t that half of what makes vaporwave so dope? It’s uniqueness. I can imagine Some Hong Kong Express with sudden bass drops in there (unique ones not the cookie cutter dubstep kind). Idk maybe I’m just high but I feel like the more the genre blends with others, the cooler it will become. So dope.
Ohh Whoa. First I heard. I assume it's pretty tight. But on the question of what's good in 2019, I started following albums coming out of DMT tapes from Florida. I follow a several of those local shop vaporlabels but I just liked how much grittier and flanged out the people posting through this label were. It might be a kinda local aesthetic. I've also been digging on Christtt lately. They're all over the place from release to release, but the 266 album is something special with its masterful chopped-n-screwy spiritual beats. Blue_Acid out of Australia is still putting out interesting offerings in 2019.
Amazing vid as always. Currently listening to this album now and I am loving the "Windows 96 sound" that permeates through his discography. I'm curious, are you ever interested in doing a Fantano style "Worst to Best" of a particular artist?
I'm a simple guy. I see Windows96, I C L I C C. I love this album, but I totally agree that it gets kinda overcooked towards the end. There's just so much of an elevator music vibe, that makes some of the songs merge together. Not to say that there aren't plenty of amazing standout songs.

So dope.
Psychedelic Chillwave/Dreamwave listened to this on acid and it was astonishing
I love you and your content.
:) thank you!!
Plume Valley has a great sound and seems quite approachable. Probably my fave of his
plume valley is a definite top 3!
Thank you for making this video. THE NEW ALBUM IS FUCKING INCREDIBLE. Top 5 of all vaporwave for me.
I listened to it on Ketamine and it blew my mind
sooo damn good
@@PadChennington not sure if I've seen you go into an in depth discussion on DDS.wmv's heavy black heart but maybe I'm mistaken?
not HBH yet! I've pretty much covered Ill try living like this, regret, and olympics (on fantanos channel)
Windows 96 is always a go-to for me when I need some good vibes
tuppy in the house
Im so glad that vaporwave is going through another change. This genre should be flexible. Im excited to give it a listen! Thanks for makin this vid
ayyyeee and thank you for watching! let me know how ya like it :)
Damn my go to spot for all my vapor wave needs thanks man
my favorite album is enchanted instrumental and whispers
every album of WINDOWS96 is different and good in their own way! my favorite vaporwave artist
I'm curious, are you ever interested in doing a Fantano style "Worst to Best" of a particular artist?
ive been thinking about it :) one artist I definitely want to do...
The style reminds me of A-ha's demo tapes.
randy I have never heard those but some a ha demos sound pretty wild
YES FUCK YES FINNALLY 96 GETS RECOGINITION YESYES FUCK YEAH
imo, I think that 2020 will be the most a e s t h e t i c year ever!
the digits are too perfect
Here before 10K views
Deep swim is my all time favorite from him.
The logical progression to evolve vaporwave into its next phase..... SYNTHWAVE. -_-
the spotify album covor is even better
I'm a simple guy. I see Windows96, I C L I C C.
I love this album, but I totally agree that it gets kinda overcooked towards the end. There's just so much of an elevator music vibe, that makes some of the songs merge together. Not to say that there aren't plenty of amazing standout songs.
hell yeah
🔥
ayyy!
