I can't even count high enough to list all of the amazingly RAD bass players (myself included...maybe not AMAZINGLY RAD) who cribbed style and licks from Tony Lombardo. His playing and unique songwriting style stands pretty high on the pop/punk mountain of bass players. Super kudos to my brother Karl Alvarez (definitely and AMAZINGLY RAD BASSIST) for being one of the major forces in getting Tony to play this show. SO GOOD!
Got to sing in a one off descendents cover set of this album (in it's entirety as well). So much fun, a bunch of older punks came out of the woodwork and sang along.
Recycled Records in Hermosa Beach, 1982 and this LP was played about a half-dozen times a day. Back then we weren't supposed to have "swear words" in the music. Now it's just commonplace. Great LP, but I still have problems listening to "Jean is Dead" because a girl named Jeannie worked at that record store and she died a couple years after that.
Kind of cracks me up that anyone is demanding that punk rock should conform to anyone's pat expectations. If punk rock was about anything beyond rebellion it was about freedom. Freedom to be who you are as well as grow as a person. Sometimes when you grow as a person you change your mind as well as just change as a person. They don't owe us an explanation for any of it.
Love U guys long time this album is banned Australia thanks for the demo tape plummage all and stickers xx lol I'm old had your t shirts I don't wanna grow up
man, thanks for snagging this descendents were the shit MILO !! BILL STEVENSON: such an awesome drummer STEVE EGERTON: you are perfect FRANK/TONY: thank you
Jean Is Dead so fucking awesome! I'm impressed that I managed to find this band nowadays I love Descendents since I was 11 and I'm 19 years old. My generation sucks!
i love this, but i hate how there seems to be no one around my age in that crowd. Everyone this day and age thinks shit like 5sos is punk rock. Like.. no please. It makes me sad that this type of music is slowly fading away and people would rather listen to katy perry or some shit. My generation sucks, most punks i meet are older. I just hope this kind of music comes back some how. Long Live Oi!! Long Live Punk!! Young Punks Go For It!!!!
+sarah mejicanos is it really a problem if that's what he likes? I'm here because I'm a Descendents fan but also my favorite genre is pop punk... You can basically call the Descendents the grandfathers of pop punk
Creative i never said it was a problem, but if you want the real punk feeling you should get more into your local underground scene. shop at your local punk shops, get into more subgenres of punk because there are a fuckin ton!
@NicoZF Yeah but he could have done a short tour. There's a weird vibe in the documentary where he acts like they're still punishing him for quitting or something.
This is the most lethargic audience that I've ever seen at a Descendents / ALL show. And you just know that the people in this crowd were screaming and shitting their pants for a Descendents reunion and album.
A man asks a simple question, and most of you guys just gang up on him. Well, I guess it's not the internet without some brain dead morons bashing on people who think differently than them.
+mrNobody100 By my math, Tony would have been 69 years old during this performance, so I think he can forgiven for not bouncing around too much on stage, he should be commended for still being able to play these songs
If people cant get over some lyrics in a rock song i dont know how they get through life. But hey thats why we have a whole generation of snowflakes demanding safe-spaces.
yeah its good, he was young and angry when he wrote those words down, the use of the word gay in a negative does not always mean you are homaphobic but, I think its mature of him not to use it :)
+TheShadow159357 At the time, young people would use gay slurs as common insults a lot more than happens nowadays, it seemed like the worst thing to be called. There was no intent in the original lyrics to put down homosexuals in any way, but the lyrics did in fact do that by using derogatory terms as insults, the insinuation being that being gay is a bad thing. This is ironic, singing about how bad bullies are, while at the same time insulting another whole group by accident. I am happy to see the lyrics changed, think that a greater awareness and political correctness at the time would have led to those words not being used in the first place
I was just thinking about that. Milo should say something like how when they were young it was acceptable to make jokes like that, but now that they are grown ups it's better to not make those kinds of jokes.
I always interrupted the lyric as offensive to the person he's calling loser, that type of person was usually homophobic so being called a "homo" & "gay" would make them mad, but to each their own.
It was still completely acceptable to use those terms to insult people you hated back then, LOL. Even if you're weren't particularly homophobic you'd still use those terms.
@@johncraighammond1646 The way I see it is they caved to mainstream, politically correct, group-think where you cannot attack a certain class of person because of their victimized group identity. This is the antithesis of punk rock which stands for freedom of expression even if it risks offending certain people.
@@matthewclarke1926 I would agree with you if they went back and erased it off previous recorded versions, but they didn't. It's a artifact of how people used to talk, but it's up to Milo if he still wants to sing it live.
@@matthewclarke1926 That is a good point. Still, Milo has always been a liberal, so he's going to go with the crowd. He's also put down many of their 80's lyrics as "misogynistic" although he wasn't specific.
I absolutely love the way Milo says "Milo Goes to College" right before the music starts. He's just the best of the best.

B Right no I don't. When the Descendents wrote that song, they were angry with jocks, they let out their emotions into a real song.

you still dont get it. It was written by one person, and the band are smart enough not to offend anyone these days by singing alternate lyrics.
