- How to Reduce Wind Buffeting Noise In Helmet | Wind Noise In Helmet
Every long #motorcycle_tourer has to deal with the #Wind_Buffeting_Noise that happens in the #helmet. Not only adds to the fatigue, but it also damages the hearing ability. Often the post long rides, the rider is left with a whistling sound in the ear. The noise in the helmet could be severe enough to cause deafness.
In this video, I have tried to touch upon a couple of basic points about why the noise happens and how it can be effectively dealt with.

Such a brilliant video, never saw a video who talked about this topic. Thanks for sharing these inputs.
Thank you Ankit 😊
Hope it's helpful as well
Thanks for the tips! The topic is something that not many bikers have covered to the extent that yo have...I use a balaclava when i ride and will try an ear plug as suggested. What is yor opinion about using 3M Corded Foam Disposable Ear Plugs for this purpose? quite cheap for a pack of 15
Absolutely Krishnakumar ... the foam one are really cheap. They are actually supposed to keep the water out ... best if you were use them which swimming ... I use them while swimming.
While riding / driving, you have to listen to the some amount of ambient sound, specially of the traffic and if someone honks at you. Moreover, if you have a bluetooth system installed in your helmet, should be able to listen to that as well.
The silicon one are not 100% sound resistant; they just cut the harmful sound frequencies and protect the year.
The idea is not go soundless, rather reduce the decibel level ... bring it closer to 60dB.
In fact the ENT doc that I consulted, suggested me to use the silicon one. Didn't ask him why, as I had own reasons to believe in it.
Use whatever you can, just reduce the exposure to the wind buffeting noise.
Cheers!
Wonderful and informative video. Would definitely try these tips
Hello Aman,
Few things I shared which I gathered over time. Happy to know you found it relevant. Thank you.
Thanks for your valuable information.

Hi Som very helpful information uv put here this is a problem which all of us face on long rides don't these plugs block the external sounds completely posing more risk while riding, also if you could exactly tell me the brand of these plugs and from where can i buy them. You are absolutely correct wind noise is a big problem on long rides especially in plains.
Hello Sanjay,
Thank you for writing.
The Silicon Ear Plugs, does not block all frequencies. Thus you are able to listen to the traffic noise but at the much lower decibels. With the plugs on, you would be able to hold a conversation without any problem. If you have bluetooth installed, you would be able to use them quite effectively.
The Silicon Ear Plugs blocks the hissing sound which is the irritating one.
You get these plugs from the following link

Once you use them, do share your feedback.

@@WanderingSom will try these and do so Som. Want a good windshield for my Blaster carbon racing guys have stopped manufacturing perhaps they are upgrading and don't know when they will supply any other windshield u suggest? Or is it available with bikeaholic? Kindly help if I can get one from there.
Thanks for this video Somji... Just a coincidence that I too am facing this problem recently though, Got a new helmet from RE which is a old school design And wind blast is disturbing...Thanks for watching my video and commenting....
Hello Ranjit,
The RE helmets are designed for laid back riding and are not meant for speed. Traditionally RE machines were also not meant for speed.
Nevertheless, apply the techniques that I do, and it be helpful for you as well.
Happy riding.
Hi Som
Thanks for the inputs.
Will the wind noise be significantly low on a sports bike. I ride the Meteor 350 and the wind noise after 70 is uncomfortably high
Yes the noise often quite unbearable. Better to have proper protextions.
Thank you for sharing.
Cheers!
Superb som sir
Thanks a lot
Another amazing video boss! 👍 keep up the good work.
Thank you Ashish for your appreciation. Could you please bit more details ... what you found to be relevant & useful? Will help me in future videos.
Thank you once again for sharing your comment. Really appreciate.

Another amazing video
Thank you Manas. Happy to know you found it relevant.
Hi Som, loved the way how you covered the issue of wind buffeting and the solution to reduce the effects of the same. I have seen multiple videos on this topic covered by bikers abroad but rarely from anyone in India. Kudos to you, keep riding and keep creating kickass content!!! Cheers 🍻
Thank you Roshan. Your kind words do mean quite a lot. Thank you.
I just shared whatever little I gathered from my short riding experience. I am happy to know that you found the content to be useful and relevant.

Very practical issue to address
Indeed!
will windshield help? Like additional attachment
Yes, it does, to a large extent.
Hello sir,
I have a carbon racing windshield with Prospec extender, can you please help me with the setting or the appropriate angle to reduce the wind rushing into my face.
Pradeep you are brilliant man.
You have asked such a vital question, which I wonder if the manufactures also have bothered to touch upon the subject.
Which you could reach out to me 1-on-1 for the specific answer the question of yours ... I am not answering here right now as I am making another video on 'how to set the windscreen right'. I would be talking more about the turbulence that the windscreen creates.
I am so glad that you asked this question.
Cheers!

That is so kind of you sir, your videos are extremely helpful. Thank You for your efforts.
Cheers 🍻
@@pradeepparkale8808 thank you very much for your appreciation. If you find the content relevant & useful, my objective is fulfilled. Will be sharing details on the windshield very soon.
@@WanderingSom Will be eagerly waiting for the same🤘🏽it will help me for my long ride planned next week
Next week ... let's see if can I full it off by then.
Som ji the microphone of headphone set is also equally a culprit and any ideas for that would be appreciated. I keep biking with headphone lead connected to mobile mounted on the bike. And, the maximum disturbance is actually from the microphone catching the noise.
Here's something funny. If you are using an 'ear-plug' it is also supposed to cut-off all ambient noise and let you enjoy the music. But while riding, the wind noise is often so high, specially when you are beyond 80 kmph, it kills the fun. A good ear-plug often is not able to keep the hissing noise away.
Your microphone should be be catching any of the wind noise unless you are answering a call, next time tuck it inside your balaclava and see how it works.
Does using the earbuds reduce the intercom volume? I mean in a negative way? Awaz aati hai kya barabar se intercom ki while riding?
Good question Samrat.
The answer is yes, however you would have to push the audio level by a point of two.
The ear plugs cuts out the sharp frequencies for sure preventing the ear from getting hurt.
In my next video I share more practical details on the same.
Cheers!
Great video..
Thank you Lokesh.
Anything specific that you liked or found to be quiet relevant?
Do share.
Aerodynamic tested shell and helmet does lot of difference in riding experience
Hello Ankur, thank you for writing.
Shell does not necessarily certify the aerodynamic efficiency of a helmet. And helmet those are aerodynamically tested and have less sound level inside, do come at a premium.
Last time I met you, you mentioned about few helmets which are aerodynamic tested are coming which could within the reach of a larger mass. Could you please share more details on the same.
I am sure, you would be stocking them at #Bikeaholic once they are launched.
Local and unbranded helmets generally have high wind noise uncle.. 😂😂😂😂
Bang on kiddo!
Now you know about one of the critical things on how to avoid the wind noise in your helmet.
Happy riding 😀😀
Cheers!
@@WanderingSom uncle my helmet costs triple than your second hand helmet
