Long term volvo car driver here from 240 to 740 etc..i now have a s40 1.6 petrol and this bulb replacement had me stumped for ages...thank you very much indeed.
@Loke Eriksson true, but I did indeed remove the assembly, bring it in the house and replace in the comfort of my family room 😅. Even outside easier than having to go through a dang wheel well.
@@lokeeriksson5016 I found the headlight harness extremely difficult to remove and after removing it, I sprayed both the outside socket on the harness and the connecting socket on the headlight with silicone spay lubricant as it is a real pain to get off and a whole lot easier to connect it back together.
I always watch this guy’s videos vs any others. He is very informative, great delivery. Brilliant! Keep those vids coming. Teaching thousands about this car👌
This was exactly what I was looking for thank you, I just brought a 2011 T6 same color as yours I was scratching my head trying to replace that bulb in the center.
Thank you for this great video - it's the attention to detail and the high quality that really helps. Changing the side light bulbs was tricky - I found that the bulb holders were firmly stuck (the car is 12 years old) and required loosening with a spot of 'dry lube' silicon based lubricant before I could get them out. Might be a useful tip for others.
Hello Sir! Now i have managed to replace the parking lamp - thanks to you. Without your video i would never manage. I will recommend this video to all my friends. Thank you so much! Spasiba !
I can't thank you enough for your videos. You've saved me countless hours trying to figure out how to repair my XC70 and I enjoy your video style. Thanks a million!
As a owner of V70 D5 2009 I like your videos so very much and use them as a big help for my weekend upgrades for the car, i have also used this video guide for complete changing my headlight bulbs so thank you :) I just want to clarify why there is 2 x w5w writen on the back of the lamps, second pair of w5w's is above the turn signal bulbs, those are the ones that lights together with parking lights under the orange cover ;) I thought the turnsignals light and blinks, but they dont as they have just one wire. Therefore w5w's do the job ;)
Always hope for a volvosweden video when i search for help, I had read forums and so many would say "have to remove air filter" or "remove bumper" even when i say the particular v70 that i have. Saw that my v70 is similar (It is a 2009 d5) to your xc70 and saw you pull those metal tabs up and the headlight unit just slips right out! nice!! So I have done this. My car is ex police so has some parts drilled away to fit more police lighting, and my bulbs are different to yours, I require H7 and H9 bulbs for mine. H21 (turn signal bulb) is the same, the parking light is the same also the 501 w5w. The fitting of it all however is exactly the same and that extra detail you show how to remove the parking bulb clip is really helpful i appreciate it
Thanks . Very nice explained , right from the beginning , much better explained than others , My Volvo is unfortunately Australian model and is bit different but .. excellent video.
Thank you very much for this video! I'm going to change the Parking Bulb on my S80 with a 4200k bulb to fit the rest of my light color scheme and wasn't quite sure on how to get the bulb out, I didn't see the tab when I tried first. Well now I know! :)
great video ,sadly i own an older 2005 s60 2.0t and to take those headlights out as many know is a real butt pain.if only the designers back then had such clever thoughts.2 long pins and your unit is out, amazing!!!!
I really enjoy your videos, and I am now abel to do my ovn service on my 2006 XC70 thanks to you. However have now a 2014 XC70 and have problems to find out how to replace the H7 highbeam bulb And IT is not easy accessible either. Many thanks and Keep up your good work Brgds Helge
Came here to YELL the news that I FINALLY found out, after hours trying to pull it out, that if your parking bulb is stuck as good as mine was, WD-40!!!!! Sprayed a little in, let it sit a couple minutes, then it came out no problem 🙌🏻
I use LED parking lights. it looks much better in combination with Xenon. Btw. you have 2 Bulbs with 5W in each headlight. the second one is beside your turnsignal. depends on model it is activated original not.
You forgot the side marker bulb, to the outside of the turn signal. That is the one I was hoping to see! It is the second W5W bulb listed on the side of the headlight housing...
So helpful! Thank you. There is no way to see that little flange hiding under there when you first open it up. FWIW, there is a "indicator bulb out" on the dash of a 2008 XC70 when this bulb goes out.
Hi, not sure if anyone else has pointed this out but the w5w 501 bulbs that you are changing, it says on the side that there are two, you say there is only 1? There are two. The one behind the orange side light that can be seen on at around 0:20sec is also a W5W 501 bulb. theres one facing forward and one facing to the side in each headlamp unit. Just to let you know :) Great Video, thanks for sharing!
The Halogen lights seem to be more standard in North America. My V60 is Halogen, my S80 was Xenon. I see no difference in performance. Volvo lights are excellent!
I'm thinking of replacing my turn indicator lamps to LED, it looks really cool. I've the same engine as you do btw, only it's a S60. As always nice video :)
Pity with coding you can’t retrofit to Xenon Active Bending, they add a distinctive classy look to the car in sedan or wagon/awd. Albeit performance wise Volvo cars have great headlights regardless.
Love this video, really helped me upggrade my low beams from Halogen to LED in my headlights. I did have a question though I am hoping to upgrade my T10/194 parking lights in the headlights to an LED set, a pair of GTR 10 LED canbus 10. Not sure if this will fit and how much space there is in the parking light housing. Any sugestions on a paticular LED Bulb?..
I have a 2015 xc70 t6, any idea why only one of the parking lights would flicker when car is turned off? Mine does it for a couple minutes then stops. Driving me nuts. Thank you!
Really awesome video! It looks really easy also. Will you get any error codes by replacing these yourself? I know some Volvo models, probably around 2000-2003 did get error codes if you didn't replace the bulbs in a service shop. So you had to clear that at a Volvo dealer or similar. Of course, you probably have a reader/resetter as well, but just wondering. Also, I know you've done many videos, so you probably know.. Do you get any error codes removing plastic/panels/dashboard inside the car? I know that those models with years listed above also got error codes for that. I just wonder if Volvo has removed that in later models. Keep up the wonderful work with your videos! =)
No errors if you replace the bulbs with the same ones again. Also any bulb failure warning will go away once a new bulb is fitted. It’s canbus errors nothing major and if you change for LED bulbs then you can get canbus errors with the new LED bill flashing or the bulb failure warning but there are good quality canbus LED bulbs which will work fine and as for everything you mentioned no errors or codes will be stored as long as you disconnect the battery before you unplug anything and reconnect it after and not starting the car with things unplugged since this will give fault codes since the module or sensor isn’t found by the ECU. Plastic parts without any electrics or sensors in them can be taken out without disconnecting the battery. Bulbs don’t need the battery disconnected as long as the lights are off then you can remove the headlight unit, replace the bulbs and plug it back in then turn them on to test it works. Easy! I’m 4 year too late but hopefully some of this information is useful to you.
Did you have to change anything to run with the parking lights as DRLs instead of the low beam headlights? I would also prefer to run this set up. Many of the Canadian models have low beams on permanently as soon as the engine is on rendering the headlight switch useless.
Hello. After replacing normal bulb to LED bulb, board computer does not sign any error, that position light is failure? Because LED bulb has less consumption, like normal bulb. Or there is no control for front parking lights? Thanks for answer :-)
Wouldn’t it be great if they sold aftermarket headlights that’s like the newer Volvo’s 😩 xc70. I have s80 same headlights. I’m surprised they don’t sell aftermarket headlights for this car yet?!
good video..altho i think if one wants to put in LED for parking light with 194 but not sure on the polarity , one would have to take the whole headlamp assembly and plug it back to car. Just a lit bit more work i guess just to check for LED polarity. i think you should put in 194 LED type bulb like how i have on my S80 parking light

You do have 2 w5w, one for parking light, and one for "side indicator", the one all the way on the end..
