I was confused about the bleeder valve, because the screw only seemed to turn 1/8 turn. Someone suggested spraying PB blaster on the valve to help it turn (spray between the "screw" part and the outer cylinder). I did that. The bleeder valve is not a valve like a plumbing ballcock valve. It is a plastic screw (with the screwdriver slot) inside a threaded plastic cylinder (which attaches to a rubber hose). There is an O ring around the inner plastic screw part, which keeps the coolant and pressure in when "closed". Hold the valve (the outer plastic cylinder) in your strongest hand, then turn the inner screw part counter clockwise with the screwdriver until you see the O ring come a little above the outer plastic cylinder. Then you know it's open, and the air can bleed out. To close it, turn the screw part clockwise until flush with the outer cylinder. Mine has a pink line on it . Turn the inner screw part until the top is flush with the outer cylinder, and the pink line should be fairly close to the little pink dot on the outer cylinder. Edit: This is something you need to do to let the air out so your engine doesn't overheat. Don't bleed when the engine is hot, let it cool down first!! If you can't unscrew it yourself, get your neighbor to do it (you know, that guy that shook your hand so hard it hurt). Good luck!
Great job showing the bleeder valve. A couple of other TH-cam videos failed to show that part. Couldn't figure out why my car didn't take anywhere near the amount of coolant I had removed after a thermostat and hose change.
Those people that their Ford Fusions 2010-2012 require Orange Motorcraft Coolant (Ford specifications WSS-M97B44-D and WSS-M97B44-D2), and Motorcraft Specialty Dark Green Coolant (Ford specification WSS-M97B55-A). The new coolant that Ford recommends is the new Motorcraft Yellow Coolant, it is backward compatible with the 2 Coolants that I mentioned. (Flushes are not required, except if the coolant that is currently in the vehicle is contamined).
Can you please explain about contaminated coolant. Wondering about the flushes thanks
@@Gerardocaracosa To what I know, contaminated coolant is that 2 types of coolant are mixed, such as P OAT and Nitrite Organic Acid, or the car was filled with tap water, or any other type of contamination.
Nice video. To those who commented about not opening the cooling system when it’s hot, yes you are correct. The heat in the coolant is a byproduct of the internal combustion process .Heat causes expansion and since the cooling system is under pressure ,allowing the system to cool down before opening said system would be appropriate.
One of the best I 've view direct to the point showed the full work I liked the way you addressed the bleed valve opening & closing along with filler cap even with the scent i could understand you did excellent job
There's a bleed valve that you're supposed to open when adding new coolant so that most of the air gets out. To remove all air you need to turn the heater to max and rev to 3k rpm for 30 seconds and repeat it a few times.
Could you tell me where the bleed valve is please? Is it at the top of the engine ?
Nevermind, he showed where lol
Questions.
Do you open the valve before you start adding?
Can i keep the reservoir cap open while the car is running so i can add coolant?
Is that while the valve is still turned to the left ?
That clicking noise on your 2.5 is the tensioner/idler pulley. Easy fix…do the belt too.
Thanks bro! Saved me $270 🙏🏻🙏🏻✨✨

Thanks for the info. Gotta do a water pump on the wife’s 12’ Fusion.
prestone "all vehicles" antifreeze can be mixed with any type of coolant.
Will coolant come out of the bleeder when having it open and revving to bleed it ? Or will it just be free of air after X amount of times revving to bleed it
What do you do when you try to open the bleeder valve and the head of the cap screw breaks apart along with the metal washer?
By ford on that engine you need to use de g-05 coolant [Gold] is desing for those vehicles
Thank you so much
How much coolant should drain out? I’m only getting about a gallon even when I open the bleed valve while draining.
You will have to do it 2x in order to get the old fluid out- turn your heater on Full Max. It’s about 2.325 gallons of coolant in your cooling system. Best of luck
Don't use the orange coolent or dark green coolent. They have all been replaced in 2018 by ford's new gold coolent. It is far superior and it is great upgrade especially if you have the V6 with the internal water pump.
Wouldn't it require a radiator flush? If I am correct, draining it will still leave some of the orange coolant and its not good to mix different types of coolant.
@@idanny76 If your going to drain and refill might as well flush it. Also ford claims its backward compatible but I would still flush
@@grivolas2144 It is not the gold, it is the Motorcraft Yellow Coolant. It is backwards compatible with the old P OAT Dark Green Coolant used in Ford Fusions 2010-2012.
Thank you for this video.
I’m glad you found this video helpful.
On my fusion 2010 sel v6 the valve is metallic right under the air filter hose. For some reason, the manual says 9 litters, and I was able to get a gallon out waiting for about 10 minutes , not sure if all coolant went out, how ever looks pretty clean aftera few miles.
How many miles did your 2012 ford fusion have? Mine has 146k miles and the coolant still looks orange and not dark like yours. The coolant hasn't been changed ever and I was considering just changing it to keep the car running good. I read on some of the comments to change to the gold coolant, but my guess is that it will require a flush to remove all the orange coolant. If I am correct, it is not good to mix coolants.
Change it immediately lol. It may look fine in the reservoir but I gaurantee it is dark and discolored in the radiator....
I changed my thermostat and now everytime I crank my 2012 Ford fusion the fan comes on
Yes, that has happened to me too. How did you fix that problem??
Best it comes on than stay off.... Just check coolant regularly.....rain water is the best... Pure
My car doesn’t have a bleeding coolant system 2010 ford fusion sel flex fuel
I can’t find my bleeder valve
What size drain pan is that?
Looks like the 7 quarts one they sell at walmart for like 2.97$
@@thebandit9982 thanks man!
Mine say green
Yes it might say that- but according to Ford the gold is the newest coolant antifreeze and works best for their cooling system. I would personally keep whatever you have in your reservoir- just service your coolant system.
@@RookieRepairs yep that's what I did just kept what's in there and toped it off with AutoZone Universal 50/50 it's lime green...
I personally would have gone with Motorcraft coolant antifreeze. Keep it going- well maintained and it will run for a long time. I have additional videos feel free to check it out: th-cam.com/play/PL3GPOzl4aAfkRNwCZfCAW0fMPQWsvEY7A.html
Tanx
never open your resevoir when the system is hot, this guy is gonna get you burned lol
Lol I got burned
David Watson Keep Calm. Start up your car for 3-5 mins. and begin your drain… No need to remove the drain plug just loosen it-no need burn yourself while you at it. Best of luck
Keemkai I’m sorry to hear that you burned yourself - you don’t have to remove the drain plug just loosen it.
@@RookieRepairs oh I did lol I was just making light of his comment your video really helped a lot
I’m glad you found this video helpful. Nicely done on getting your coolant fluid looking fresh again. Best of luck with your car.
