Even variety website said that jallikattu would have been a lively addition to shortlist. Just go and read and by the way it got nominated in satellite awards. It's not that they snubbed it.

The chances of releasing churuli in theatres are quite low... Lijo had a clash with theatre owners during lockdown periods.

Illa OTT gone
Entire churuli is a portal, not real. Once entered it's a loop. There is no getting out but only resetting the roles. Everytime a loop is concluded the memory of entire Churuli natives are refreshed too. That is the reasons they having so many names. Madan is nothing but aliens. Madan is no a single entity but a group which facilitate Churuli program for unknown reasons.
Loops.
In the movie there is clear references of two previous loops through various seemingly unimportant conversations.
Loop 1 - Soubin, a police officer is brought to Churuli by a maadan called vasu. Soubin goes through same things chemban vinod does and his back is also displaced. The maadan who brought soubin takes him to pengal and fix his back, in the process she also installs maadan into soubin. While the maadan comes with soubin rapes the kid. Then they eventually finds the criminal which they were looking in the first place and goes off and enters portal. Here the vasu and the criminal switch role. And enters loop 2.
Loop 2 - now soubin brings George (vinay fort) looking for a criminal called vasu. Bec the role criminal is switched after the loop reset - maadan who was a police officer, vasu is criminal now. Then eventually vinay fort will break his back and soubin will take him to pengal, where they will fix the hip and soubin rapes the kid. And when the loop is reset, police officer Soubin switches the role to criminal. And vinay fort will have to bring another person to Churuli.
Loop 3 - entire Churuli movie. In the climax vinay fort and Soubin will change seats in jeep, indicating the role switch. Saajeevan will become criminal and joy will be freed from the loop.
Loop 4 - chemban will go out and bring someone new to find the criminal Saajeevan (vinay fort). And this entire thing will repeat. And loop will be resetted with switching chembans role to criminal, freeing vinay fort.
Clues:
Major:
Saajeevan is called George by the arrack shop owner and he attends to call. This is an anomaly in resetting memory.

Some memories doesn't get reset. This is indicated by few incidents like ammachi is trying to attcak him Saajeevan with an axe and people calling eachother diffrent names. Multiple times vinay fort is referenced to being a familiar face.

About previous loops the hints are there in the conversation between arrack shop owner and Saajeevan after collecting tapioca from fearsome oldmans house.

Blinking eyes, blinking eyes by the ammachi who tried to hack Saajeevan with axe is a clue to Saajeevan to use it. He tries it later and use the power to kill the guy who was rude to him.

The alien references can be found in hoardings and at the begining of the movie after they have breakfast and two people talking about alien abduction in America.

Vinay fort remembers pengals roof view when he is getting slapped in the competition. And pengal asked him if he was there before.
.
Another direct reference to loop is from pengal. She is seen calling the kid 'omanakuttaa' when they arrive. When they are leaving loop neeeds to be reset and it needs a new kid. And she's seen Calling "Manu" looking afar.
.
Pengal knows about the loop and she's probably in control. Bec she knows chemban is a police officer and other details. She also offers to predict "future" which chemban refuses.
Minor clues
After breakfast when Vinay fort is washing his hands he realises something, probably a dejavu or something.

Vinay fort turns and stares and the two people talking about aliens.
.
Vinay fort telling chemban that he is having difficulty in tracking days while they were taking water from the well.
.
When Vinay fort is walking alone in the forest the whole view is liquified or fluid. Indicating entire Churuli is a big artificial realm.

The entry to portal is probably when the jeep goes faster in the begining and jerk is felt.

Blinking eyes is a switch of control to maadan. Normally the peoples action is controlled by themselves but when madan takes over they act like robots with no pain and emotion.

In the end when the Churuli natives attacks chemban and Vinay everyone looks at chemban only, vinay is left out.
@Koin King its remake of orginal, to make understand for common audiences. In film festival it was much difficult to understand... Movie is like if 10 people watch 10 of them will tell you different story... I think thats its beauty
Loop 2 logic is poor. Why aren't the villagers suffer pain when get hit and when did the child was raped . They didn't show anything

ഷാജീവനെ കുറച്ച് പേർ കണ്ട് പരിചയം ഉള്ളപോലെ പറയുന്നത് നമുക്ക് കാണാൻ കഴിയുന്നുണ്ട്.
ജീപിൽ ആ പാലം കിടന്നു കഴിയുന്ന സമയത്ത് മാജിക്കൽ റിയലിസം നമുക്ക് കാണാം,പെട്ടെന്ന് അവരുടെ ക്യാരക്ടർ മാറുന്നു...ഇങ്ങനെ കുറേ എലമൻ്റ്സ് ഉടനീളം ഉണ്ട്...
സിനിമയുടെ ആദ്യ ഭാഗത്ത് ഒരു കഥ പറയുന്നുണ്ട്,ബ്രാഹ്മണൻ്റെയും മടൻ്റെയും
ആ കഥ തന്നെ ആണ് സിനിമ മുഴുനീളം കാണുന്നത്. ഷാജീവൻ ഒരാളെ കൊന്നത് സിനിമയിൽ കാണിക്കുന്നുണ്ട്,മാനിനെ വെടിവച്ച് കൊല്ലുന്നതും കാണിക്കുന്നുണ്ട്, പോക്സോ കേസും ആ സ്ത്രീയുടെ വീട്ടിൽ നിന്ന് നമുക്ക് മനസിലാക്കാം.

I don't understand. why should LJP premiere churuli in IFFK? He is an established director. He could have released the film in theaters right away. Anyone can explain?
If it was to do like that then the film should have censored by the censor board as this film contains many adult scenes and dialogues which lijo jose pellisseri largely opposes. So he went with this option and I think it will be only released in ott platforms.
Most of the important scenes would be cut of by Censor board.

Hi Sir, You shouldn't have mentioned the actors in cameo roles because one of them was not shown in the Trailer or anywhere in promos and now I feel like it has become a spoiler, for me at least.
totally agree. he should have taken into consideration that 99% of the people watching this video haven't watched the movie yet, and are excited to watch it without being spoiled.
Churuli is nothing but a hypnotic trance, a feeling that you get when you start using your mobile, laptop etc.
The bridge acts as a metaphor, a connection to internet or social media.
People after crossing the bridge are people with no limits who can change identities as they wish and swear at anyone at will (How many times have you done it?) This is something that you would never say outside of social media or in the real world :)
Story of Churuli below:
You open your mobile or laptop to finish a simple task. You complete your task but still you want to keep browsing and it has an effect that stops you from leaving your mobile or laptop. You get lost in it even though you may have achieved what you came for. This is the ending of Churuli, the hypnotic trance that is stopping you from keeping your mobile away. This movie is made for the social media fools or addicts like YOU and me. Get out and LIVE.

This sounds like a movie that will warrant repeat viewings. I still remember how Super Deluxe left me surprised and not believing what I was seeing on screen, but the movie gets even better after repeat viewings. So many details thrown around that you cannot possibly absorb in a single viewing.
Exactly. But some ppl actually liked it in the first viewing(Super Deluxe) which weird me out. It's like in the first watch im weirded out and than im like used to whats happening so i appreciate it(after watching it like 5times)

Awesome review for an awesome movie. It's a classic world-class cinematic experience. Rich with metaphor, it's a poetry in cinema. This is the cinematic experience whose time has come. Every frame oozes finesse. Proud of Lijo Jose Pelliseri. Film makers such as him makes cinematic Kerala and cinematic India proud. It's not the usual junk that is churned out in the name of boxed movies wrapped in glittering paper.

There is a difference between something being a beautiful abstract work of art and it being a hollow wannabe one. Eccentricity or abstractness for its own sake is tiring. This is nothing compared to ee ma yu, his best work. A colossal misfire.

This movie is a treat for the senses, a visual magic showing nature in its full glory. It has coarse language as it attempts to show raw humans in its most primal form (after crossing the bridge, it leads to a different world) . It is meant to stun audience which it has managed to do. The story is the pursuit of a fugitive who has escaped into a maze deep in the jungle. I didnt particularly like the ending even though it was meant to be a 'churuli' (loop). The strong point is cinematography even though I felt the background music was a tad too strong.
Saw Churali, it's Timeloop movie, same as DARK in Netflix or a Nolan movie

I agree with you.. Even used to think the same way u r thinking.. But what I understood is 2 things :
1. We never appreciate the PRESENT. Maybe in 40 years from now there would be someone commenting that he's missing cinema of LJP, Ashiq Abu, Amal Neerad etc rather than appreciating the director's of that future.
2. I am 25 years old & sometimes it's difficult to relate to my brother's thought process or music taste of millenials.
This happens because once u become & employee & start working u understand that life is totally different from how u were a student. The present reality defies u & your mind wants to go back to your so called GOOD OLD PAST when u didn't have any responsibilities.
