  • Our 100 days journey in Africa started in Stone Town, Zanzibar. At first sight, this city looks like a labyrinth of alleyways, spice markets and unruly traffic, an exotic place that can be seen in a chase sequence of a Bond movie. The architecture we initially found was a mix of Arab, Indian and African influence, together with notable wooden doors decorated with brass studs - a style that originated as a defence against charging elephants.
Join us as we discover the hidden secrets of this beautiful African island!

I'm so grateful that at least one of my ancestors was brave enough to endure the hardships of not just making it across an ocean in atrocious conditions, but to survive through the cruelty of being enslaved. That tour really moved me. I plan on bringing my kids to Tanzania. I've been watching different videos with people bringing kids and you guys look like you had a good time! Thanks for sharing your time.

That part of the slaves was so exciting watching. Brazil was the country that most imported Africans as slaves in the world (brought by the Portuguese). And almost always here we read in the history books this historical fact being told by white people who did not suffer like slaves, so the story is always told lightly.
Being there and entering the place where the slaves were staying with a cultured man like this tour guide (who seems to have emotion in his voice) is a learning package that no school could teach. What an amazing experience for the girls and the family. It is unbelievable that there was such a past, treating humans in this way.
It is common to find in Brazil grandparents who have been enslaved, and who today value water, food and the bed. Thank you for this video. Very beautiful the place with many features. Someone needs to invest and progress the country.

Your videos make me think about culture and travelling. I'm multicultural; my father was Italian, my mother Greek (been to both countries) and I was born and raised in French Canada, Montreal. I live and work in California USA now. But, nothing beats experiencing the world!

My father was a health inspector in Dar Es Salaam in the 1950's and we travelled by Union Castle ships around Africa on leave. One of the trips took us to Zanzibar when Tanganyika was still called that. Zanzibar was very Arabic then and there was a great conflict and many Arab people were killed before it became Tanzania so it's been a victim of political change. It looks much the same, fewer Dhows now.

Aah you captured our house in your video @ 2:16. I lived in Zanzibar in the 60S. The tall white house behind the orange tarpoline on the right hand side was our house. It was in great shape then but it is now dilapitated like most houses in Zanzibar after the revolution in 1964. I live in Mississauga, Canada now and your video brought back some beautiful memories. Thank you. Your video was done very professionaly. I really enjoyed it. Thanks again.

About the Canadian hats and other products that you found out, I think they're used clothes from "Canadian charities" to African countries. The charities do send them to Africa but they somehow end up being sold in the market. Zanzibar is my second home by the way, welcome to our island again. Karibuni Unguja!
