I'm not surprised by Beidou and Ningguang. I am much more surprised the Sumeru ships became so popular.
Sumeru's characters feel more fleshed out tbh. They have more depth and better writing
recency bias I bet, but Kavetham is certainly a cute ship. But I agree we had more time with the current Sumeru roster because for the first time they were actually the allies for the Archon Quests, not random npcs
HaiKaveh popularity is just insane, especially in China. The ship manage to dethrone Chili after staying on top for so long.

My first thought about this ship was xingqius and chongyuns "aunties"
One thing I find kinda fascinating watching this is that only 3/8 of Ao3's most-represented relationships even made the top ten. Childe/Zhongli is far and away the most popular ship over there (with almost triple the presence of anything that isn't Diluc/Kaeya), and yet it only hit #14 in this list. Definitely shows you how different places reflect different slices of the community.
Tbf they are also one of the oldest ships in the game. Soa lot of content could have been published for them before some of the top ten ships were even introduced. I'm sure there is also some recency bias there, as several of them are from Sumeru
@@jenilein113 I think it's several reasons. Both your and OP's point is right imo, and another could be the way this poll worked. On Ao3 you can see how many people like a ship enough to write content for it, but not how many people dislike a ship. On this poll, everyone participating was asked to rate EVERY ship in the poll, not just the ones they liked.
Let's say 50 people take the poll. 25 people give the ship A 10 and 25 people give them a 1. That will average out to a 5.
Then compare that if 50 people rate a ship B at 6 points. Now ship B will have an higher average score and appear more popular despite most people feeling kinda neutral about it while half the people absolutely love ship A.
On Ao3, those 25 people would make content for ship A, while none will make content for ship B.
Thus Ship A appears as more popular on Ao3 while Ship B would appear more popular on this poll.
I hope my explaination makes sense... 😅

Alhaitham/Kaveh has had absolutely explosive popularity, and it's hard not to put recency bias behind Dehya practically getting two ships in the top ten - no shade at either of them - that end up rubbing shoulders with longstanding stuff like Ganqing, Thomato and JeanLisa. Really didn't expect them to place that high at all even if I think they're both good ships.
I'm not used to participating in ships, but there's no denying the chemistry between Beidou and Ningguang.
Even if it's not romantic, the two of them together are always fun to see.

I love seeing the spread of votes. It is interesting how some ships are almost a flat line across the ten options, and others are weighted into a smaller range, like 5-8.

My favorite ship is Chongyun and Xingqiu so I was waiting for them to come up and I was hoping for top ten but to see them in 2nd is amazing.

I think the reason why Chili is lower than expected is because of overexposure. Back in the early days of Genshin, you couldn't go anywhere without seeing it. It was one of the most popular ships, after all. I think people have started to grow sick of it, and even then, I believe the last time Childe and Zhongli have ever interacted in any media was some official art from like 1.3. Given the nature of Genshin, it's always expanding, and people will move on. Kavetham has pretty much taken Chili's place at this point. I wonder if they will fall someday too?
also i'm surprised xingyun is as high as it is, i don't really see people talk about them anymore
All things considered, I think a similar dynamic to what you described for Chili occurred in the opposite direction with Xingyun - it's kind of a ship that's built up to an ongoing extent over time, with fans building up with it. So not only does it have a pretty present fanbase, it doesn't quite have the burned out other side of the coin to counteract it with negative votes. It's also consistently relevant, like usually presenting in the Lantern Rite to some extent, much like BeiGuang does.
It's personally not my favorite ship by any means (while I know it's not the case feasibly speaking in game, I can't help but see them as literal babies and can't bring myself to ship them haha) but I can definitely see how it'd end up in the top spot like it did.
I doubt Kavetham will fall like chili.
Chili has no reason to exists. there is no real relationship between them that can be read as romantic or even as close friends. meanwhile Kavehtan has story together, they know each other very well and, besides the bickering, they do care about each other.

As a zhongchi/tartali shipper, once you dig into the ship more or see more vids about it you can see more chemistry between them, but some people dont get those vids or dont usually focus on them thats why they think they make no sense
@@lilfreak1491 well a lot people tend to ship characters who barely interact and thinking they have good chemistry while none of the important characters have romance together or at least nothing that’s confirmed. People have to make everything about ships for some reason it’s getting annoying when there’s one interaction and people go like “oh wow they are totally in love “

@@rubymvd9005 they really don't. why would Alhaitham who prefers solitude and personal space let Kaveh live with him and see him every day if he hated him and why would Kaveh who can live with one of his Sumeru friends stay with Alhaitham. they also can't stop talking about each other, bicker like an old married couple, and know each other's habits like nobody else. it's just a more complicated relationship between someone who has trouble expressing his emotions (Alhaitham) and someone who's very sensitive and dramatic (Kaveh).

It's my favourite shops for the characters! I really like their differences too - Yanfei being very law-abiding and Hu Tao not as much! I think they're really cute together

It’s probably because scara and Mona don’t interact outside of the first event they were both featured in, meanwhile scara and childe are literally coworkers
Im kinda surprised to see Zhongchi so low, but it also kind of makes sense too. Back in the day the fan base was oversaturated with it. And some parts of its community has been known to not exactly play nice with its rival ships which instilled a lot of resentment and confirmed biases about the ship and its fans overall when before their rival ships seemed to at least tolerate its existence. So that resentment is likely a factor in how the polls turned out for Zhongchi. In fact nowadays I have a few people I know that have began to dislike Childe as a character as a result. As someone who played since day 1 and has made art for the fandom for a good while now I can think of at least 1 overstep Zhongchi has committed against all its rivals when in the beginning everyone at least tolerated its existence. However, it should be pointed out that not all Zhongchi shippers are bad folk. Its just that as per usual, the minority speaks the loudest and the sane Zhongchi shippers are the ones who have to deal with the aftermath. I may not ship Zhongchi but I still feel bad for that sane Zhongchi shipper who gets labeled merely based on the fact a large chunk of their members are batshit insane when they themselves aren't. I hope it gets better for yall.
Bro, tysm for this. I joined around 2.6, after much of the original hype for Childe, Zhongli, and Zhongchi had died off. However one of the reasons I started playing was because of Zhongli, and I stayed playing for Childe! I love Zhongchi almost purely because it is so funny to think about, and not for all the weird gay agenda stuff you see. And when it comes to other ships (Such as Zhongli/Venti, Childe/Lumine, and so on and so forth) I’m TOTALLY down for people who ship that as long as it kinda makes sense yk? (bc obviously I don’t personally understand ships where characters have never even interacted canonically.) Another thing that makes it hard is getting bullied for liking Genshin Impact, and then getting double bullied for being a Childe main BY Genshin Impact fans. If that has taught anything it’s that everyone has different opinions, and everyone should really just be nice to each other and understand why they may ship someone. Unless, ofc, it’s not legal or they get overly obsessive.

• also plays with and takes good care of Klee as well (read Mona's Story Profile)
• have the dynamic of "knowing the truth" through reading constellations and knowing the world of Teyvat itself

Those two ships are probably the most polarizing ships (as far as I've seen from the Genshin community, anyway). People either love it or hate it, it seems.

I’m honestly surprised that some of the ships were so low! Some of the ships that were ranked lower I feel like I can’t escape from on the internet 😂. I love Zhongli and Childe the best, but I get how it’s not everyone’s favorite. I’m not sure why I like these two so much, I think they just compliment each other very well
I think the main problem is with Childe and Zhongli is that people really love it or absolutely despise it. Their also getting a bit beaten up by some other ships in therms of content. I would however have also expected those two to be higher

but i personally think lumine/aether x scaramouche, is pretty good! they are actually a great ship!
reasons:
1. traveler saw his past, and feelings etc to a very deep level
2.he also was in traveler's conscious and felt their determination and probably a lot more
3. they met back in 1.1, so they know each other a bit
4. traveler helped him so so much! and i am sure he appreciates it
5. they name him, and i feel that is a very special thing in itself
6. his birthday line is very... romantic. one of the most romantic
7. he is a bit tsundere and i am sure he really likes traveler
8. the official art of him giving traveler a flower is cute!
9. he is one of few that knows traveler is not of this world etc
10. and many more that i have not said!

I stan xiaolumi, but scaralumi is so good too. (not counting aether cause he's not my traveler)
Im definitely more biased towards aether/scara instead of lumine/scara (for literally the same reason im more biased towards lumine/childe rather than aether/childe) and thats mainly because i definitely feel aethers slightly more subdued personality would balance out scara's slightly rougher one. (At least post sumeru archon quest anyway)

My favorite rare pair is 100% Rosaria and Sucrose. They are polar opposites, but in a way that I think could be really cute. Sucrose could bring out a coldly sweet side of Rosaria, and judging by Kaeya's "about Sucrose" line, I think they would also have a lot of fun together.

Honestly when the trailer for Xiao during the lantern Rite came out, I feel like the community lost their mind over the small interaction between Venti and Xiao.😅
That trailer summonded all the xiaoven shippers, they had been left alone with just their theories and then they got canon content and lost it

I think that just really depends what side of the community your focused on. For me when that trailer came out I only saw people making memes and fanart about Qiqi carrying Xiao and did not come across a single thing about Xiao and Venti. I am personally not really focused on ships so my timeline would probably not show much of it aswell but most of the times when you think things 'blew' up it's just because your into it and the timeline keeps recommending it to you

The predominance of f/f ships is astounding. As of writing this the current ratio for Genshin AO3 types is 4.2 : 1.7 : 1 (m/m : m/f : f/f) so it is really interesting how well f/f did in this poll.
A lot of m/m and m/f ships are more contentious, especially when involving Aether. Plus, I don’t see a lot of popular f/f ships (like Beidou x Ningguang and Ei x Yae) having very popular alternatives.
@@Yoimiya235 I disagree with Eulamber, because there is some subtext in events if one chooses to read into it, but I do think Ganqing doesn’t really make much sense. Also, most new generation weebs aren’t really obsessed with yuri, most of them are obsessed with yaoi (as evidenced by every popular anime fandom that’s popped up in the past decade).

Ik this isn't one in the polls(and i didn't take part in it) But Arlecchino x Columbina. We know that Columbina is a mysterious aloof character and Arlecchino is the psycho wolf in sheeps clothing that given the opportunity might defect from the Fatui. So her leaving the Fatui due to Columbina and with her. Just. Is cute. Plus short girl + tall sexy woman = cute. But also because of their archetypes in the comedia dell arte are often lovers.

My favorite ship is Zhonven, which is kinda weird because I don’t think its rare enough to be considered a rare ship, yet I also never see people discuss it unless i specifically look for it.
Its definitely one of these ship where you have to dig a little deeper in the story to see its full potential.

Xingqiu and Chongyun is a cute ship because in events, when one of them shows up, you know they other one is close by 😂 Also they are both on one of the most og op the national team, having good synergy in real battles too. Cute!
Eula + Amber, and Dehya + Durnyazad, strong ships but also they give off strong sibling vibes, Dehya was sort of taken in by Durnya's father as an employer, and Amber's grandfather was Eula's mentor.

Yes !! It pisses me off that ships like kazuscara are overshadowing this ship because kazuscara, even if their history and lore is really deep, have never met ! And if they did, I don't think they'd date. Kazuha probably wouldn't hate Scara or whatever but I have q hard time to think of them as lovers. Ittorou does have some interactions, but they're not direct like Kazuha x Gorou

I believe Chongyun and Xingqiu are seen as like universally fruity but I can see why some people don’t agree like they are “best friends” history said they’re “roommates” kinda thing so some of them doesn’t like the ship
A rare pair I'd like to mention are Shenhe and Yun Jin, some of the fan art between the two are 👌
Another one I've seen floating about is between Yanfei and Hu Tao, that one has a slight melancholic undertone (as with a lot of ships involving a mortal and immortal character where one might outlive the other such as between Ganyu and Keqing)
Jean and Eula is another interesting one, the one-sided rivalry of Eula swearing vengeance on Jean could just be Eula's tsundere manner of respecting the Acting Grand Master, though it might just be that Jean isn't too aware of this and doesn't regard Eula that much more than a fellow knight.

i really love these videos. a community based drip survey would be nice, not quite elike the hotness one but who we think has the best style/outfit/personality.
It was a bit fascinating to see several popular ships kind of in the mid-range (I have friends who are very much into the shipping stuff while my ace ass just enjoys reading the different dynamics people create for characters while causing some permanent damage with my own writing, haha) until I saw several of the top ten ships were 3.0 ships haha. People have really taken to the ship fodder in the new updates, and it's really interesting to see. I wonder if we'll see a similar situation when 4.0 releases.

i was so surprised by this list. i expected it to go pretty similarly to the top relationships on ao3, so i thought zhongchi would be a LOT higher up. same for kaebedo. ngl, was disappointed to see my otp so low… i had no idea it was so disliked???
i was not at all surprised by kaveitham tho. i swear it’s been climbing the ranks on ao3 so quickly. maybe a week or two ago it was like. 8th place for most popular genshin ship on ao3. now its 6th with like double the amount of fics. i wonder how much it’ll grow in popularity before it dies down
I think it's because Koomax was intreviewing her own community, so it depends on what her viewers tend like so that's probably why the patterns didn't match the popularity of the ship in the general community. Like no Ittorou is less popular than IttoSara, that is just mathematically not true. Even tho I love both.
Chili is getting a bit outdated in therms of ships and is getting especially beaten up in therms in game content for others. Also since their a very old pair there will be more fics written about them aswell since they had a longer period to be written about so the ao3 numbers may be a bit deceiving in this case. However I would have also expected them to be closer to Haikaveh/ Kavetham it's really impressive that one ship could grow so fast especially since Kaveh isn't even out yet.
This was fun to participate in and see what everyone else thought!
Personally, I enjoy a lot of the dynamics and fanart made by the community, but generally think of most of the characters as good friends or platonic partners, instead or romantic or sexual interests.
(And this is def just me but I want to get it out here - while it's entertaining, I do have a gripe with Kaveh x Alhaitham just bc I feel like it would be better for their emotions and mental health for them to be separated - especially for Kaveh. But hey, that's just my take.)

The Variety of ships is really cool and interesting.
I think it is quite interessting to see what kind of ships your community prefers. I like a lot of the ships on the top as well. Though i see a lot of comments confused at the ranking of some of those. Please all remember that those ratings are if not a tiny potion of people that actually play Genshin they still could vary a lot in a bigger scale it is all just for the funs X3.
Surprised Mona Fischl got forgotten when some of the most obscure ones I've heard were still in. I think that is easily the one with the most character development in game at the moment, not the most blatant like Ning Beidou is but dynamic. They keep adding to it each time one of them appears, far more subtly like Monas lines with Klee at end of last windblume.
I think after looking at all the popular ships, it might be fun to look at some rare pairs. It's always fun to see what people come up with there.
I'm surprised there wasn't some sort of ship involving Hu Tao in the listing. My personal choice would have been Kuki x Heizou. Saw a quick video skit on TH-cam somewhere where they were a couple for some sort of skit, and I just thought they looked cute together. It also makes sense since they could probably start interacting together just based off all the times Kuki has to run to the police station to get Itto and the gang out of jail for the nth time that month. Kuki walking in, passes by Heizou on the way "Hi Heizou." "Hey Kuki." Kuki comes back, dragging Itto by the ear. "Bye Kuki." "Bye Heizou."

I guess the reason why Chili is law on a list is because we didn't get any content with them since the 1.3 version. Maybe it'll change when we get to Snezhnaya? Childe will visit Liyue on the lantern day (like Collei did on the windblow festival) and meet up with Zhongli again? It will be a time when Chili fans will raise again!
Yeah, plus the ship got a lot of backlash during its peak due to its partly toxic fanbase. Also, I’m a Childe main and the amount of people who hate Childe as a character is quite surprising. Luckily it never deterred me from loving him and Zhongchi so I sincerely hope we’ll get a reunion one way or another, even though I’m skeptical. I hope for the ship to become relevant again!

Ik this wasn’t included in the poll but a one of my favourite ships is cyno and nilou! Ik the ship originally came from a leak that I’m pretty sure was fake, but I really like the idea that cyno watches nilou performances now and again, and I love the idea of serious short guy and bubbly slightly taller girl. Nilou could also bring out the silly goofy mood cyno and she could actually find his jokes funny. AHSHAKAKKZHAJ AAAAAH THEYRE SO CUTE

Yesss, Yun Jin and Xinyan together is just utterly adorable, shame both of them aren't too popular. The way Yun Jin supports Xinyans rock and sneaks away to her concerts, or that birthday sequence on the summer island thing. They both mention the other a fair bit in voices/story too. Very cute.

I could easily see Kazuha and Ayaka, though the game hasnt given much interaction between them. Their families have history and Ayaka has no friends. I could see them getting together eventually.

Most of the placements make sense when you see the likes and dislikes, seeing which is most hated and most mixed, and why it gives different views to ao3, ao3 only has people writing for what they like. People here rank everything.
I was glad to see Xingqiu/Chongyun so high, their childhood best friends, mutual pinning with the teasing and constant will they won't they.
Razor/Bennett is also an enjoyable ship, i think two idiots in love. Razor doesn't care for Bennett's bad luck and Bennett is allowed to be himself, they're both a little out of society so it just feels fitting for them together.
I also like Chongyun/Bennett for the vibes of Yin/Yang and i wonder what would happen if they meet, would bennett bad luck let them run into a spirit, or would chongyun's yang cancel it out. They're both sweet and kind of both have some self worth issues due to their conditions, that i think they could do with seeing another perspective to it.
Razor/Xingqiu is very lady and the tramp, tarzan and jane energy to me and i just think it's very cute in that regard.
I also like Albedo/Xingqiu, i think the artist x writer dynamic, and penpals, the little gay panic they seemed to get in irodori, especially xingqiu being really excited. It's also Albedo is someone who likes Xingqiu purely for his writing, he doesn't see him as the heir of the guild or know him for his title, but for a genuine aspect of himself and as of lantern rite he seems to not even share all his writing with his friends either. I could see it as a celebrity crush onesided with friendship, or a mutual affection.
On the topic of onesided, a comedic dynamic i like is Xingqiu with the dark night hero, i just think that the rumours of this mysterious figure if he ever heard them would definitely give him a little celebrity crush, to be him or be rescued by him, or his partner in solving crime? I think he'd probably make up elaborate scenarios and rumours, i don't think he'd ever find about who the dark night hero is, even if he tries or if he does it'd probably dispell the little crush, just in love with the idea of a fantasy hero rather than the person.

idk idk its just- I'm surprised it wasn't on this list considering Traveler's "Your eyes remind me of home town's skies..." and Venti's tongue in cheek response of "You'll have to do better than that, I've heard that one before"; in the latest windblume festival Venti basically wrote a poem about Traveler; there's a whole achievement for sitting on Venti's statue called the Anemo Archon's Beloved; the fact that Venti welcomed us into the city with open arms; that he (and Mondstadt) are our introduction to Tevyat; that he said "May the wind guide you and protect you." and it has- in Liyue we were saved by Xiao, in Inazuma by Kazuha, and in Sumeru by Wanderer; it's said in the game (I think during Golden Apple Apedigo this summer) that the wind is constantly watching the Traveler ---- Venti cares about the Traveler so damn much. He loves the Traveler.
And what makes them so fun to think about is all the potential angst. Aether leaving Tevyat at the end of the story, leaving Venti; Traveler finding out Venti's part in the Catalysm; Venti and Traveler never- NEVER- able to actually have a relationship since Venti believes in freedom and he will not come between the Traveler's goals to reunite with their sibling, contrasted with the Traveler knowing you can not hold the wind, it is fleeting and always on the move- that misunderstanding on both of their sides- aaaghhhhhhhh!
