I love the way they wrote Furina and Neuvillette because they have that little something Ei was missing during Inazuma's quest. Both are super popular characters everyone loves and respects but they show that these people are able to question and challenge the authority of them, it's not all blind admiration, they didn't keep those opinions locked in the voice lines menu for the playable characters. And the fact Ei compares Furina's conflict to herself is beautiful.
To be fair who WOULD question Ei the Raiden Shogun. Fontaine is civil enough and So is Neuvillette to allow for disagreements. Same with Furina who is viewed more as a Celebrity rather than a god. Ei is Viewed Completely as a god. And not even the Kinder Himble Venti but a Full Blown Dictator with Powers to cut the Island in half and its in full display for those who Question her Authority. So yes. It makes sense no one Questions Ei openly except those on her level like Yae Miko and Traveller.
Well, there's Itto having beef with the stormy weather because like probably a lot of Inazumans he thinks it's related to Raiden (I do not remember if they ever confirmed that like they do with the hydro dragon don't cry thing) It's a shame Ayato who does hold more power got introduced so late, he could have been in a position similar to Navia. The fact he's close with Yae could have done a lot like spreading the idea Ei isn't this all powerful unapproachable figure, there's more to her only people like Yae knows.
Basically what you said is she is an **shole that will kill anyone how disagree with her even if they are completely justified So yeah the fact that everyone love her for no reason really is stupid @@silverhawkscape2677
she's amazing. before the last part of the archon quest i liked her more than most people, i thought she was a funny "girlfailure" type but afterwards everything she did was super recontextualised for me. love her character a lot.
@@Kokichusagree, I liked that they stayed true to what was initially shown ,it completely recontextualizes the view on the character yet it doesn't actually change her at all
thats the reason why she fell flat compared to what every other fountaine character gave... also clorinde is there i guess but she aint that important. Shes just the cutesy extroverted type for the simps to get their hands on her, then telling us shes been faking it for 500 years, While that made her less worse shes still not good for me. Also gameplay wise shes literraly just fischl but water
I think the main reason players got whiplash in the story quest was not just cause the traveller was being rude, but because we've never seen them act like this to other playable characters. Hoyo makes pretty much all the playables have a positive relationship with the traveller, the only acception being Raiden (cause she did try to kill them), Wanderer and Childe. But even then, traveller helps them out in their story quests not for someone else, but FOR them. Idk how to explain it quickly, but traveller wasn't really helping Furina, they were helping the theater troupe. But in other story quests, they directly help, like babysitting Childe's brother or helping Wanderer with his memory. That's why the attitude comes off so bad, cause we're not only directly making fun of her (defending Paimon's stupid comments count), but we aren't there for her. At all. Such a missed opportunity. Not even Ei got that treatment.
nah, players overreacted because of their expectation aftter the archon quest. the story feel out of place because you can play it immediately after the archon quest in which players are still feeling sorry for furina. traveller bully paimon all the time... :]
@@lagrangewei there's a difference between bullying a close friend in a way you both kind of find funny, and making fun of a person for not having their life together immediately after having to perform a role for 500 years under threat of drowning her entire country.
I think Childe and Wanderer got a very different treatment than Ei tho. In the quest they werent exactly friendly with Wanderer (rightfully so), and were doing that to kinda find answers for themselves. Childe on the other hand is just friendlier, travaler was a bit more naive too i'd say (given that was the second nation they visited), less tired of dealing with things, they just happen to be able to be friendlier with him sometimes bc of his personality and longer time of meeting him, still i wouldn't say they're best friends either bc yk, they didnt went to meropide bc they were worried, nor care at all when it was said he was badly injured (not that they have to dont get me wrong, for me it just proves that they keep a rather peaceful demeanor with him bc they dont see him as a threat anymore). Furina was treated pretty bad in my opinion, for someone who didn't do them wrong at all and did not put them in danger, traveler was out of line completely. The thing with Ei I do agree, was badly written.
I love this comment so much that I saw in Twitter "the other was thrown because of his humanity, while the other was cherished because of her humanity" 😭
@@heartsvinelle35 I actually have a knack to pick with that tweet, I hate Ei as much as the next person but she was merciful on Scara She didn't "throw him away", she left him alone to find his own destiny rather than be a puppet who only served to house a gnosis (plus Miko was the one who wanted to take him out). Dottore was the one who used that to his advantage and twisted Ei's much nicer intentions into making Scara believe he was "abandoned" rather than "left alone". It's important to understand that Scara is an unreliable narrator
@@marqkc Finally someone understands.Scara wasnt abandoned.but she saw how scara have emotions when he cried. She was more worried about heavenly principles and her nation after what happened to khaneriah. She didn't abandon him either. I remember she placed something on him so people know he is under raiden protection. everything about raiden shogun is rushed so people dont get to see her. Yeah ei is not a great character even she knew that that's why she sacrificed herself so makoto can be archon. Raiden is one of the archon who might know about heavenly principles. Even though she is not original archon but she might be the only person aside from venti, zhongli. They definitely know something about celestia which we dont know yet. scara became a puppet for doctor plays. his understanding with the situation he was facing was twisted by him.
I actually beg to differ. The only parallel I see is them having a difficult personality that people in the community disliked and are now somewhat getting resolved, but I wouldn’t say they have much similarity other than that.
Never resonated with a character so much in this game. Furina feels human, and unlike a lot of the characters in this game we watched firsthand the lowest points of her mental. We've never seen the level of depth and relatability with any other characters, but I do hope this means their game is gonna step up in the writing department.
from the moment i saw her leaks, i fell in love. she was a must pull for me. when 4.0 came out, i fell in love with her bratty and cocky personality, and even though the fandom despised her i loved her with all my heart... and i was so surprised in 4.2, when hoyo showed her lore and her real backstory, and wrote her so beautifully. though i wasnt surprised the fandom turned around completely the same way they did with nahida lol i am now a proud C1 (accidental) furina main! 💞
I know the point of the story quest is to "sell" the character, but I also almost wish there was a longer period of time between act v and her story quest for the players. Most were coming off of very protective feelings over her and it was probably confusing that the Traveler took a more "tough love" approach to helping her overcome her trauma
Glad I wasn't the only one who felt that way. Although it is known that sometimes you just need a push out of your comfort zone in order to grow. Like the ring of fire, in order to leave the ring you must first go through agonizing pain and torment but after that, you no longer have to.
@plvto1 yeah I think that was very much the point of her story. It was a push to go forward and move on, not a push to bully. But I can see why people saw it that way, especially with Paimon's blunt commentary xD even I told her to shut up a few times.
Tbh I don't know how much time you'd have to pass until Furina would even start getting over 500 years of psychological trauma. Somehow her worst traumatic response is getting a little pissed off when people demand her to overstep her boundaries after she said no like 5 times. Like, it's a miracle her brain still works. I mean, yea, fantasy game magic, I guess the same magic that made her immortal probably also have her extra resilience, because no normal human brain could work that amount of stress out, no matter how much anime determination you have.
@@kimik-sb1bcAgreed, I think we are meant to sort of suspend disbelief and take it as story over reality. It wouldn't be a good story if the Traveller showed up and she was just a traumatized husk of herself. I mean it could be a good story since it would be a reminder about how fragile human and human life is in a world where nations can be destroyed by a god with ease. It would fit thematically with the AQ as well to explore how dramatically 500 years of nonstop acting affects a person. But probably a bit too dark and depressing given that the AQ ended on a triumphant note.
@kimik-sb1bc yeah I agree realistically this would be mindbreaking. But this is a fantasy game with impossibly strong characters, both physically and mentally. So rather than looking at realistically how long she would need, we have to see it for the message it wants to impart and judge it based on that. I just think execution wise, the ~players~ probably needed a bit more time. XD maybe if her quest came with a warning: wait two weeks after Act V before you start this quest.
Furina’s gameplay also matches perfectly with her story similarly to Childe. In Pneuma form (long hair Furina), she’s considered a mediocre healer with no energy regen or damage. There are better options that you can use that also give you buffs, while Ousia Furina (short hair Furina) is an amazing sub DPS along with giving great buffs Pneuma form was the form she was in while acting as the Archon while Ousia was the true her before Focalors told her the role she was supposed to play. Meaning that the best way to play Furina is to let her be herself and be free
What I find fascinating about the traveller’s dynamic with Furina is that she has zero reason to be attached to them at all. They’ve basically always been antagonistic. Since the writing tends to err toward letting players feel like their avatar is universally beloved, it makes the relationship stand out.
I love the AQ and Furina's SQ but I agree that her SQ could have started out different. If the traveler and Paimon just met Furina after getting food, they could talk (Furina explaining what happened after the AQ, her venting about her trauma to the traveler since she no can longer worry about dropping the act) not before passing by the Adventurer's Guild and accepting the commission. I think what it needed was a better start.
the way the traveller and paimon interact with her after the quest is still carrying into the event a little bit 😭 they treat the bloodstained cold-hearted emperor like a nice old buddy and the biggest human sacrifice like a joke. also love the art you make for your thumbnails!
ehhh they don't really treat her that harshly in the event, they just love to tease her. it is way more playful and harmless than the shit they pulled at the beginning of her story quest
@@motemo8413 I think the 'issue' is that, if you only watch the Archon quest, well, the Traveller and Furina have no reasons to be friends, which makes the teasing sound a little harsher than what was probably intended. It can be explained away by "the Traveller and Furina had an off-screen conversation where they talked about the events and reached a reconciliation of sorts", but since we never get to see that, it makes the interactions in the story quest a bit off.
My interpretation of Furina and focalor is that they did start as the same person but after 500 years being separated you develop differently and become different people. But with that archon quest, furina became my favorite character
My question is, why did the English voices make them have different tones? At first I was wondering if it was Ambers voice but it was but it was totally different. The obvious reason was because they grew apart like you said, and also to show how human Furina was and how more mature focalors was because she’s probably way older than we think since she was close to Egeria. But then other in other languages, they practically sound the same and not that different. I don’t really mind actually I love how different their voices are but I saw somewhere that it was weird if the game wanted to have them as the same person, why different voices? Anyway that’s my little rant if you can call it that
@@2triedforthis830 The point was to highlight how different focalors and furina really are. Furina is a nervous wreck who constantly stresses out about playing her part (before/during, but to an extent after the archon quest) whereas focalors was cool and calculated. Furina never knew why she was doing the things she did or if she was doing them right, but focalors was masterminding the entire time. Focalors is also just more (emotionally) mature than furina, which you can see in how she carries herself and talks. If I had to guess why the voices don't sound as different in other languages is most of the time in other languages there are conjugations that can convey seniority, so you could just mirror and conjugate what furina and focalors say instead of a tonal thing, which is probably just faster and requires less work on the VA's part.
@@pitaya_is_cool1408 yeah you explained it well, I knew it was to make them seem different and you answered my question as to why the other languages don’t really try to change her tone at all, which makes me like the English voice more lol. Amber Lee Conner is probably one of the best genshin English va after 4.2 and 4.3 in the event cuz she just puts so much into her role and I just love that about voice acting lol, especially the total whiplash and confusion once we finally meet focalors and the voice is so different I thought it was a different va😭. But I’m having trouble finding out why the voice that appears in neuvilette sq cutscene and his trailer have a different voice all together, like it sounds more like Furina but more mature but not to the point it sounds like focalors which is something that was eating me up the past couple of days.
@@2triedforthis830they’re completely different concepts lol. Furina is humanity, and focalors is divinity. Of course furina’s voice is more performative and focalors is calm. It’s not just that focalors is mature (though that is part of it), she’s the actual god. She is removed from society and all the stuff that comes with humanity that furina has to deal with
@@clxwdy yes, I know all that, I questioned why it was only in English to highlight this difference even though in the other languages it did not happen. They are the same so therefore they shouldn’t have different sounding voices but they do
i love how layered her character is and how she's a really good example of how it feels to mask your personality to go about your day for what feels like forever and how tiring and depersonalising it becomes, which a lot of people can relate to + her design is so good at displaying her personality it's so elegant and she's giving gender
Not only Frina, but every character of Fontaine feels like a real person for me. In a sense that none of them feels like another anime trope for me. They are genuinely just characters. A real one/ And it's great, I really love how character development improved since release
I think we all can really connect with Furina; Her lifetime of suffering, her masquerade, her pain, her love, her rise to fame, her fall, and how she stood up again despite it all.
I cried SO hard during final act, omg! I immediately pulled for her after quest Her VA did an amazing job at causing my trauma, now i can't hear her voicelines during rain without a flashback
yeah, i got her before the AQ and everytime it rained, before i did it i'd go like: "oh rain doesn't work like that, silly, don't be so dramatic" but after i did it: "you don't need to worry about the prophecy anymore, everything will be alright"
Furina is an instance of Focalors that was split off and, over time, became her own person. In a way Focalors and Furina are one and the same individual but over the course of 500 years Furina became someone distinct from Focalors.
Yeah, true said about Inazuma. I hoped from HoYo to make Ei's story Quests are most about her regret, and her sadness about killing, and stealing peoples Visions, and to way of crying a lot, to blood even, even some of characters will cry about who she feels, like Yae Miko, and after a lot of tears fallen from her eyes; her people will forgive her, even if she killed one of their family members, or their father/mother; because of what she’s doing now. Then she will promise hardly on protecting her people as a “compensation” for her peoples dead people souls who killed by her hands, then her Story Quest (1) will end, then her 2nd story Quest will be about developing her City; for her people to be very satisfied, and then they will notice a very weird, and dangerous things are happening, like appearing of Wolf Rifthoundes, and some weird things about the Ley lines, and Ei and the Traveler will searching about it, and mannny things will happen but after they researches… Some very big snake will appear and it's called Orabashi, and it’s was the thing that causes the wierd and the dangerous things that happens in Inazuma like the Abyssal Wolfs, and you know what Ei will do; as how she promised her people… She will fight that Snake -Orabashi; she, and the Traveller; with showing a very badass cutscene about who she promised to protect her people, and HOW SHE WILL KILL IT!!! And The Snake -Orabashi will be the 2nd Weekly Boss of Inazuma; instead of Raiden Shogun. Then she and the Traveler will kill it at the end, and she will fell of how much power she consumed to kill that Snake, and her people will be very happy; about what she did, then she will smile; while crying of happiness, while she’s sleeping; of her fight with the snake, then her people will call her “The Hero, who never disappoints his people; by zero.” Then we will do some good things to her, and make her happy, and Yae, the one who was overwhelmed of what she did before; will be so satisfied of what Ei did to her people, and she will smile, and forgive her, and will praise her. Then some things will happen, then the Story Quest will end. :D
This whole quest made me cry. Fontaine is honestly the first time I felt so connected. So seen. The first time I sobbed during Fontaine was hearing Lyney and Lynette’s story. I was flabbergasted with Furina acting the ways he did and how messed up Fontaine was. Then I learned more and more. And truth of Furina had me devastated. I could feel my heart shatter. Even in Furina’s story quest I knew time had passed after Fontaine was saved. Yeah I know Paimon was annoyed- maybe holding a grudge (I don’t blame her. But still Paimon, be nice.) but seeing her come back from that dark place made me cry with joy. She was back doing what’s he loved. It reminded me of getting out of my dark place and back to what I loved, even more. I’m an actress myself so- Furina’s story hit home
Great Video do have a few things to say that were missed well less missed but they could be the reason for their actions in Furinas story quest (doesn't really explain Ei though, Perhaps the travler just resonated with EI? they both lost a sibling in a sense and the traveler gets along well with martial types,........ Or maybe they want Ei to step on them Who knows?) 1.PAIMON- Likely the reason that Paimon is so rude is that unlike Papa water dragon or the traveler, Paimon never actually saw what Furina went through which is likely why she is so rude beyond just being Paimon (even if the traveler told her it would not have the same effect as seeing it play our in front of your eyes) 2. TRAVLER- The traveler is not a SI at least not anymore early on yes but now not so much there is a lot of hidden character with the traveler for example the traveler is very intelligent and fairly wise this is likely a byproduct of being long lived they twins have at the very least been alive longer than Furina and possibly longer than Zhongli, another thing and the biggest i think is that the Traveler is not actually a very good person or more accurately they are no paragon. The reason i say this is that the traveler is fairly quick to resort to violence (recent example Furina walks up in a crowded harbor and the traveler goes alright lets have a no doubt incredibly destructive battle right here right now and pulls a sword.) and in addition they are incredibly prideful (or vindictive). I know that may seem like a jump but if you read some of the dialogue choices and think about the travelers actions it becomes more obvious The traveler was once incredibly powerful and even while diminished the travelers sword skills are in the level of mastery (there have been a few dialogues saying such) however the traveler gets that power stollen away and gets thrown around in the Mondstadt bodied by La signora and fails, next country traveler is more powerful but still gets beaten by the fatui and more importantly by la signora, next country guess what beaten by the fatui loses a friend and immediately goes on a rage filled murder spree against them and gets bodied by Hat guy, Until eventually they come across signora again and immediately challenges her to a death match enforced by a god there are a few other examples around plus the fact that a lot of the travelers speech options for side quests are greed based and it becomes apparent that the traveler is not a paragon of virtue, even in the masquerade of the guilty when the traveler was Dashing to Furina their thoughts were "I must have Answers" Now don't get me wrong I'm not saying that the traveler is a selfish arse but there defiantly not a squeaky clean SI Lumine for sure is quite snarky
The only way to fix furina's story quest, is for her second story quest to start out paimon feeling guilty, and they meet up with furina to start the story quest
FRRR It should be “Hey Traveler, shouldn’t we check on Furina again?” Or smth like that, make Paimon more likeable to lure in players to like her and when a heartbreaking scene of Paimon ever comes up, there are more ppl to be sadder instead of cheering lol
I don’t know how Hoyo is going to be able to top Furina‘s character writing but I hope it’s only uphill from here on. This is how you write an amazing character with so much depth and personality! Also, I hope character stories going forward uses Navia’s story quest as the baseline. It was literally about her from start to finish, really delving deep into her character. This should be the standard for all character stories.
I would actually defend the harsh actions of Paimon and Traveller during Furina's story quest because: 1. They never really got close. Even if the traveller knew what Furina was hiding, remember that she rejected their help TWICE. And now they are the ones asking for help and is expected to be rejected, due to both the knowledge of Furina's history and how their relationship isn't really friends but more like acquaintances. Even after Furina's quest, their relationship didn't end up becoming THAT close, but slowly warmed up with each other. 2. It is a much more interactive way of writing than it seems to be. Furina didn't follow the traveller back to the Adventurer's Guild because she likes performing arts, but rather because of the harsh tone, they ended up bickering. And due to some unwanted words said, Furina wanted to apologize or at least reconcile with the traveller, giving her a more gentle personality, like what she was before. 3. The progress felt more natural than us suddenly becoming close with each other and solving all of Furina's problems. Furina herself ended up progressing because she found the solution to some of her problems on her own, and all while getting recognition from the traveler during the quest. The event quest currently running doubled down on Paimon's attitude to Furina. Funny enough, it seems written intentionally that they are close enough to bicker on trivial things, which ends with them trying to reconcile quickly before getting into important matters, but this time it's traveller side doing it.
ooh interesting perspective! you're right, it's also possible that Furina followed the traveler back to the guild because she didn't like how they left off & wanted to apologize.
It's a fair point, but in that case, I'd argue the first meeting should actually be MORE tense. I mean, the last time they saw each other, Furina got condemned to death while believing her 500 years of effort were all for nothing. As it is, it kind of feels like the Story Quest wants us to believe that Furina and the traveller are kind of friends (if not particularly close ones) without really explaining why.
14:30 it was strange for the traveler to approach to raiden so friendly. but it was even STRANGER that he approached Childe friendly when arriving in Fontaine. Last time i remember meeting him he tried to defeat us in Liyue, like WHO WHOA WHOA THERE WHAT DID I MISS that traveller is cool with a fatui harbinger around
Last time we met was in his SQ of course not everyone did that quest. Still better than keeping the first mention of the house of the hearth In a Inazuma WQ
Yeah, I can't believe how she became my favorite character. She was so well written and has an amazing design and personality. Her whole archon was quest was incredible and made me tear up a little. There may not be a hydro archon anymore, but she definitely deserves the title of archon
Just like in Focalors' words, Furina is perfectly human in every way. Furina is so perfect that she became the best character by a huge mile by just recontextualizing her actions in previous acts in just one act. ONE!!!! I already loved Furina since her character design was leaked and her pre-act 5 bratty version made her interesting cus none of the previous archons are as petty as she is trying to be and even then, the bratty persona is there just so people would not find out about her secret and in act 5, she became my favourite character of all time even outside of genshin and she is my favourite character in genshin alongside Neuvillette, Alhaitham, Nahida, Hat Guy, Navia, Arlecchino and Childe or TarCHADlia being my headcanon name for him (especially him fighting the whale for a long time without breaks using the foul legacy transformation when he could've just let everyone else in fontaine do the fighting cus of fontaine's problems have nothing to do with him and his bad vacation experience lmao). Furina's strong will and justice to act as a god when she knows ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about Focalors' plan to save everyone and not have any suspicions around her identity and finding a way to stop the prophecy that is completely impossible is what her the true Hydro Archon that never was and what made her the best archon, surpassing Nahida by a tiny bit when Nahida already is one of the best archons out there is such a surprising thing. I hope the last two archons are as good as Furina and Nahida. Tsaritsa especially needs to be good since she was already brought up since the beginning of the game and constantly mentioned by the fatui. Also: Tartaglia and Arlecchino are considered to be the National Heroes of Fontaine among the Fatui Harbingers. Let taht sink in...
Furina didn't really have a identity when Focalors created her. So they weren't exactly the same person after the separation. Even if they were, after 500 years of separation, they're bound to be pretty different from one another. Imagine creating a clone of yourself, leaving it alone for 500 years, and expecting it to develop the same way you did. So while Furina is made up of parts of Focalors, they are not the same entity. Especially since no memories were transferred to Furina regarding Focalor's endgame plan. If they were still tied to one another on that level, there's no way Furina couldn't know what Focalors was planning. Furina was left in the dark, which is why she was still monitoring the primordial waters and asking about ways to stop or slow it, and why she was completely stunned when she was on trial. Now, one might attribute that to her acting skills, but then why were we shown her internal monologues where she showed fear, worry and panic? Surely someone in the know wouldn't actually be worried and trust in her own judgment. The flickering moments of Focalors watching Furina is just that, Focalors observing Furina while Furina is oblivious to it. Like Focalors was scrying from within the Oratrice. Finally, if they were truly still one being, then Furina would have perished the same moment Focalors did, but she didn't. TL;DR: Furina and Focalors were only the same person prior to the separation, and referring to them as such post-separation is inaccurate.
There is so much issue with this interpretation because it completely disregards what PARTS of Focalors each were. Furina is the soul and body of Focalors, something that Focalors would’ve had since the begining while Focalors’ divinity, the one explaining her plan, is merely just that, the divinity. Which we know from lore is something that is obtained unless created by celestia to be a god off the bat, which we know Focalors wasnt. The story draws comparison to Focalors when she was first turned into a human by egeria and Furina, so if anything Focalors is but a dead name to furina and an identity she chooses to leave behind (first by splitting off her divinity/powers from her body second by stepping down the archon role once the prophecy was over. Furina isnt a “different conciousness”, its Focalors finally being able to live as a human like many Oceanids dreamed of doing.
Not to mention that some part of Furina DID know what was being planned (even though she had to fool herself). You see this in the teaser for furina, she literally talks about fooling fate there.
Furina didnt disappear when the divinity died because that is just Focalors powers, something that isnt directly connected to Focalors as a person. Not to mention we saw how much Furina fooled herself into thinking she is the god of fontaine within her own conciousness, when traveler entered we had to break the illusion to truly understand what had happened. You also see the two performing the exact dance, showing that deep inside Furina knew of the plan in some way.
I have a thought about the way the Traveler interacted with Furina during her story quest. I think the insensitive way the Traveler acted may be born from a case of show vs tell. We saw Focalor explain her plan to Nuevillette, what she put Furina through, and all those details firsthand. We saw Furina despair and subsequent suprise over the prophecy being wrong. But the Traveler had to get that info second hand from Nuevellette. The last time (that we know of) that Traveler actually interacted with Furina was in her inner world, and how even with her true emotions on display she ultimately decided to push them away anyways. That would've been the impression the Traveler had when meeting up with her again. I dont know if that would explain any of their actions, but it is something to think about.
what made SQ feel really like a whiplash to me is that furina and traveler didn’t interact a lot in the previous AQs, like the one we interacted with more was neuvillette. and the last time traveler and furina spoke was in the trial (idk if furina knows that traveler was in her consciousness ) where she was sentenced to death, so like i was definitely ?? when we acted close to her
My biggest qualm with furina's story quest was the way it "set up boundries" only to bring them down immediately. Yes, I know it was a part of "Furina rediscoverying her passions" but they did not need to downplay the importance of setting boundaries because spoiler alert, boundaries are extremely important.
You're spot on with the story quest. The fact that it started with a commission really left a sour taste in my mouth. Would've been so much better if the traveler just visited her out of concern or care.
The fact that people are now theorycrafting at how she could be a permanent travel companion for Traveler after Paimon and everyone in the fandom loving it is gold. She's so much fun and I hope we can take her along our journey.
Same. It also helps that, compared to other archons, she's the first one I feel would be fit for the Traveler. There are others obviously but Furina went above and beyond the call of duty (god I hate that phrasing) all for people who could've not even cared one whit about her. But they did and still do.
The more similar a character is to us, the easier it is for the viewer to identify with a character. Usually the best developed characters in Genshin Impact are powerful beings or immortal beings who have been living for thousands of years, but Furina is one of the few well-developed non-powerful characters. Surrounded by powerful beings, terrified of powerful beings... Furina is as if a normal human being was transported to Teyvat and suddenly had an important role. Remember how she was scared when she saw Tartaglia's power or the fact that according to Arlecchino, after assaulting Furina at night she stayed crying in the Mermonia palace for a whole day without being able to sleep from fear. But still, none of that stopped her from achieving her goal. With tenacity he advanced among powerful beings to achieve his objective. Furina is not like any divine entity like Venti, Zhongli, Raiden, etc. That what they suffer are things that are difficult to understand because we are normal human beings, we do not know what it is like to see our loved ones leave because we are immortal. Although Furina lived to be 500 years old, the source of her suffering lies more in what she lived doing during that time. Let's recap. Furina is a character whose bad time she had lies in the fact that she has to lie about someone who she is not for long periods of time, because she is afraid of losing her life, because she is afraid of people's opinions (because they don't want them to discover that is human), etc. What Furina suffers is something that (except for 500 years) can easily happen to a person. We may fear the general opinion of lying and not being who we are and we genuinely fear for our lives when faced with someone with much more power than us (like someone with a gun in their hand). Furina's greatest power lies in how easy it is to empathize with her.
i’m an original furina liker because i’ve always just loved her design and her personality was entertaining. but holy shit act 5 and her story quest made me love her so much more. i’m not gonna analyze it cuz the video already did but they just give her character so much more depth. very happy i was able to get furina
It was a bit of a let down to not really interact with Furina at the end of the archon quest, but her story quest really fleshed out her character in a satisfying way for me. I love seeing her get her vision during the play. Congrats on 10k subscribers! Your beautiful thumbnail arts drew me to your channel and I've really enjoyed all of your videos.
it's as if Hoyo is deliberately keeping the player's Furina wound open .. to be resolved in a more profound way later (rather than simple emotional closure where a few words and hugs are exchanged and everyone becomes a happy family). PS: Sassy, argumentative, abrasive Furina is what ground down and shaped, over 400 years, Neuvillette from a disinterested dragon to an empathetic quasi-human dragon. Otherwise, Neuvillette wouldn't have had the nature to bless the people of Fontaine. PPS: you say Furina maintained her facade without faltering for 500 years. I disagree. There was one incident. Remember when (in Furina's re-enactment for Traveller) an admirer had an audience with Furina? .. well, Furina, unknowingly began breaking down into tears. I think that corresponds to the flooding of Poisson. Furina maintaining the facade wasn't merely maintaining information, the facade she was maintaining was literally the strength of Fontaine which was keeping disaster at bay. Furina's fortitude was literally Fontain's integrity. (my personal little theory)
I am no writer so forgive my lack of articulation and structure to this rant. Furina's story quest felt above all else insulting. After all that had happened we go and kick down her door, keep pushing for her to get back on the stage despite her (rightfully) declining. We had just crossed her boundaries despite being shown in the archon quest how Furina has gone through such insurmountable suffering. It was such a shock because as another comment said, most came off on being extremely protective over her in the previous quest, and it just feels rude to treat someone who is (or well would have been) traumatised from those events. The situation that Furina had just come out from seemed to deserve respect, in whatever the traveller did with her, he should have respected the psychological damage she would have endured and been a little nicer to her. But there was no respect for it. And worst of all we did it because (as you said) of a fucking commission. The traveller feels like every week they spin a wheel and assign a new writer, it is so strange how at times he can be so compassionate, yet minutes later be the most selfish person on the planet. The traveller didn't care about Furina, nor did he accept any responsibility or even apologising for pressuring her in the way that he did. Yet Furina feels that "My story has already come to an end, and so the next act shall be about OUR story" (As per; About Us: Our Story Together) why does she feel so deeply for the traveller? What did we do to deserve such affection. It feels like hoyo yet again reducing a woman to waifu bait because appealing needy obsessed losers make more money than writing a woman who feels like an actual human being. I had originally thought that Furina's complete disappearance *was* her closure. She wanted to live as a normal human, and so she left, into the crowd to become indistinguishable from the average person. However it's clear that wasn't the intention that MiHoyo had, and I wish they had instead gave us something, it just felt like time had skipped. Even now in 4.3 due to the event, it's clear that Furina's role in society is more as a director, she's giving others the opportunity to live out their dreams while sharing her skills, it's completely fitting for her and feels tasteful of her history (I'm so glad that they didn't just shove her back on the stage that would have been appalling.) which is why it bothers me so much that we didn't get that recovery period. We just got a broken Furina at the end of act V, and a healed one at the beginning of the SQ. Furina's story overall is my favourite now, bar none. And while I don't believe her story quest is completely bad, I feel that the insulting feeling it instilled in me after I had played it is worse than any disappointment that bad quest could ever give me.
I have a few miscellaneous thoughts that I can't put into a paragraph each so I'll just bullet point them here: - the little oceanic seemed way too similar to furina's story to be a believable coincidence - I feel that furina's relationship to performing is a bittersweet one as despite how much she loves it, how much of that love can be real? it's all she's ever known, of course familiarity feels good. (it's why I love that they went down the director furina route more than performer furina) - I really do wish Furina's interaction with Neuvillette was more emotional and at least gave closure on them, through his voice lines Neuvillette seems extremely regretful of what happened.
Furina is definitely one of my favourite characters in the story after the recent arcon quest, with only 2 characters I'd put decisively over her ( Venti and Xiao my two favourites :) ), I think she's also the best executed by Hoyo, they absolutely nailed her buildup, anticipation and payoff this time, I remember picking up on some personality trailts thinking that Furina isn't just a brat and has been suffering playing a role she maybe hadn't even asked for, and seeing that come true in part for really amazing, basically Hoyo did a great job and I sure hope it's not their last, I'm really looking forward to this video
Xiao was my favorite for a good chuck of my time playing the game (around 3 years) but after a while I just didn’t have a favorite anymore and Xiao definitely grew out for me, (but I still love him deeply) but after I saw Furina’s leaked design like a a little after Sumeru I think I knew I would love her, and then she was in 4.0 and I knew that deep down this character was complicated and different and I was right! I adore Furina and she’s definitely my all time favorite and hopefully for a good while. It also helped that I love her aesthetics hehe
I remember how I always knew Furina was wearing a mask since 4.0, I just didn’t correctly figure out what the mask was covering before the reveal. As for her SQ, I think waiting to make Furina playable at the second half of the version instead of the first would’ve helped Furina’s SQ since it would’ve given a good bit of time between the AQ and her SQ at least for people that played it as it came out.
On the Narwhal, we did get to see a hint of it before everything went down, during the first meeting with Childe... during that mission, using him and using his riptide, you would have seen a flicker of the narwhal, while the spark was acompanied by a VERY quiet groan similar to the Narwhal's call... then during the Delusion Unleashing during Childe's trial, you can see a flicker of the shadow of a Narwhal jus before Neuvi takes action... While during Childe's Jail we see a single glimpse of the Narwhal. Then During our stay in the Fortress, we see a number of times he was fighting it, or staring up at it... As for Furina... I kinda wish we had followed Navia's idea and just went up and hid under Furina's bed to get the answers...
Her vision story is some of the funniest thing I've read in genshin and something that I would totally do given the chance. And also Focalors entire plan can be summed up with Gaslight Gatekeep Girlboss. Truly the archon of all time
I loved Furina the day I saw the trailer, and I CANNOT begin to express how much I love that the fandom finally recognizes her amazinhg personality!!!!1!
I never really cared about genshin before watching your videos but the sheer quality of your content has gotten me obsessed. (Rephrased to better convey what I meant)
MY HEART IS BEATING SO FAST, FURINA IS MY ABSOLUTE FAVOURITE AND I'M SO EXCITED TO WATCH THE VIDEO AAH I HOPED YOU'D MAKE A VID ON HER AND MY WISHES HAVE COME TRUEE
It would have been better if the beginning was traveler running into Clorinde as she was checking in on Furina, realizing they should probably do the same and maybe apologize to her (that apology is optional only because the story quest can be done anytime you want) and then meet her at her new place as Clorinde does some small talk on how Furina's trying to be independent. They could just get Clorinde out of the rest of the quest by a random NPC calling her for a job emergency or something. Just introduce the traveler and Furina overhearing the NPC's talking about the theatre problem or something before proceding to the whole schtick of traveler/Paimon trying to convince Furina to help. Is it too long of an intro for a quest? Probably, and it might be a bit confusing if, say, someone happened to do that film festival event (where's she's more settled into her new life) before her story quest, but it would certainly be better than only remembering when it comes to helping them with a commission that has nothing to do with her.
Furina became be my favourite character after i finished the Archon Quest, looking back there are lots of small hits that Furina was not the Archon and not until after the Archon quest that it becomes obvious
As a Furina day 1 lover I know I’m bias but she truly did capture my heart. Just the goofy nature alone was enough but going further and further in I was like omg. Then the ending with Focalors made me cry so hard. Truly one of the best characters. I wish Ei could have had the same depth but her story is still great as well. Here’s to the Tsaritsa being just as good or even better!
Furina absolutely ROCKS. SHe is such a loveable character who's been through so many tribulations you can't help but want her to succeed. She's a mere human with the willpower of a god... and she deserves all the love for her noble sacrifices. I really hope we get another Character Quest that can give us just a little more of a taste of her path forward and let us witness Furina receiving the praise and comradery she is worthy of.
The only other character I love this much is Xiao. It's very rare that I latch onto characters like this, but Furina's story resonated so deeply with me. I loved her even before we found out the truth and even more after. I will never regret getting her C2. In my opinion, her story quest is kind of a shame. I was satisfied with the ending, however :)
Fun fact: Furina not only acted for 500 years and endured the sin of Fontaine (which is no small thing in itself). But Furina decided to believe in herself and humanity in order to overcome the prophecy... What am I talking about? Neuvillete tells us that Furina tried to travel through the 7 nations of Teyvat to discover any useful information to nullify the prophecy, that is, she trusted that she could solve it and when we end up inside Furina's mind we can see other things that she did. For example, it is explained that with the influence she had as an Archon, she decided to trust humanity and its technology. She invested large amounts of money in experiments carried out by the Fontaine science community to be able to end the primordial water and for prophecy but that idea failed and later they give us the reason why when we were leaving Sumeru an informant from Furina rebelled to Furina of our arrival and it is because Furina had used her influence to distribute Fontaine's informants throughout Teyvat to investigate anything regarding the prophecy. But everything failed, she trusted in humanity and in herself and saw that nothing was working and that is another reason why seeing Poisson's list of the dead affected her so much... Because she came to the realization that, the only thing What she could do... It was to act while crying in the loneliness of Poisson.
Im kinda late lol but everything you said I 100% agree with. I felt like Furina and the Traveler should've had some type of conversation post archon quest (more than her current)and I hope we get that in maybe an act 2 sometime in the future. I want to see her be able to make those deep connections. I just want her to have all the screen time lol
I love her ,she is just such s darling ,and fact her story can connect to many other famous women .And how she just flawed yet creative and loving .Amazing .
Initially, I legit *hated* her, I thought she was shallow and obnoxious and a terrible archon… Then, I played Act IV…. She quickly became the most kinned and relatable character I’ve had to date (Ei is a decently close second). Now, I am guaranteed to get her on her first rerun! (75 pity, guaranteed, 18 wishes saved.) And I could not be more excited! Happy pulling!!
Love your Furina and other videos, I hope that you cover Alhathem ( can't spell it right ) one day. People don't seem to like him cus they say he's mean to the Traveler. But to me he just objective towards others and doesn't feel the need to always be around others.
i LOVE her, she's my second favorite in the entire game (next only to tartaglia), i loved her the moment i saw her bc i thought she was funny and i just love cheery character with a twist, she didn't dissapoint, in fact they went beyond with her character, giving her the development we've rarely seen in this game. She is now her own person and her learning to live is so endearing to me, i hope we see more of her, mainly bc im so interested in seeing her heal. One thing i absolutelty loved about her is how even when she wanted to tell the truth once cornered, when we "go inside her head" we see she wouldn't have tell traveler, hoyo deciding to not make traveler this being that is above her morals is the thing that completes her character for me.
One thing, I find amazing and humours at the same time is that the god of justice statue, that exist in our world, depicts to hold a scale and a sword. If we compare the statue with Furina, Focalors (divinity) and Neuvillette, then besides the obvious being Focalors being the God and Neuvillette being the scale, it would mean that Furina is the Sword of Justice, the one person, who has the least combat experience or capability of them all. Does it make sense interms of the story? Actually yes, it makes sense given that Focalors used Furina to deal a devastating blow against the Heavenly Principle. If you still dont believe it, then you just need to look at Neuvillette's and Furina's shoes.
Thank you for putting all the thoughts I had into words, as you've voiced all the same arguments and opinions that I held and still hold. I truly appreciate it and love this video.
SHE MADE ME PULL HER!! SHE WON ME OVER (although I always loved Furina’s character and personality personally). I was saving this whole year for Raiden and I just caved when I truly saw what Furina was about. I relate to her whole character in a way and she makes me feel seen. I related to her in how lonely she felt even though surrounded by everyone, and always feeling like she has to keep a secret, which she literally had to or else. I also related to her in her story quest about being hesitant to go back to stage, something I think she loves but has trauma from, and it was the same for me and ballet. I quit for about 2 - 3 years and I recently went back almost 2 months ago and I danced in the nutcracker again, it was the best. And I so badly want to perform and inspire people like Furina, even to just bring a smile to someone’s face is enough. And that’s when I said I NEED TO PULL FURINA. She’s one of the first characters I’ve pulled simply for their character and not for meta. Small side rant about Furina’s story quest: I do have one nitpick about her story quest, from experience it takes a very long period of reflection to go back to something that has caused you pain and has pain linked to it in any way, yes all those years I had quit ballet I had been thinking about why I quit, why was I doing it in the first place, what would it do for me if I went back, did I really want to do it, do I even like it? You have to answer various questions to be alright going back of your own volition and that’s what makes it impactful. But I understand what they tried to do and they probably needed to get her story quest out on time before Natlan comes out and for content while Fontaine is still fresh as to not kill the excitement, basically striking while the iron is hot. She also sort of got pushed into it when the whole idea should be her finally making a decision for herself within her freedom. Then again 500 years of trauma and healing from it would take a long time and it would be hard to depict it in such a short time. There was something else I wanted to say but I kind of forgot 😅
she became my favorite character the second the final feast teaser dropped, her design was so good that i loved her so much. and when we finally met her in the fontaine archon quest? instantly started saving and begun planning to replace my main since my early days (keqing) just for her. even when the game is over, i think i'll forever hold the bias that fontaine is one of the best archon quests ever. the suspense? the gameplay? the story telling? don't even get me started on skirk's lore bomb at the end..
11:35 "it's implied some time has passed after the archon quest" omg you blessed soul. I thought I was the only one thinking about this possibility. Please, have my sub. also, let me be clear before I get a wall of text, I agree with every criticism she added on this video about her story quest.
I like you point the transition from AQ to her SQ. Its kinda weird that we dint see her at the end of AQ, so I and surely some people thought that we will get a proper closure of her masquerade at the start or her SQ and slowly help her stand up again to the end. But yeah whwn we arrived to the SQ, we kinda missing something. Something that is for me lack to the point of the true perfection. For the good, Furina simply the best character for me. I am kinda biased to like her from the first time we know her since she is voiced by my 2nd best jp va. But besides from that, I love a character that is different from what she shows us to the one she hides. And Furina is literally a walking mystery under masquerade. Ngl, I really like the moment when we broke her in the trial only to see her cry, and her past revelation being the best moment in genshin.
I went through the same change in attitude as many did with Furina. First I was just annoyed at her and everytime the Traveler and Paimon proved her wrong, I felt satisfied. Even at the cruel trial at the end, I was cheering them on to finally make her spill the truth. If only I knew how tragic her story would be. It made sympathize and even admire her so much. Furina may not be a God, but she has the will and mental strength of a God to go through so much torment for so long and still be able to smile in the end.
I haven’t pulled a character solely because i love their story in a LONG time. Like before i cared about meta. But I’m SO glad i got furina- i love her story
i love her so much and i love how her story also shows the mental difference between archons and humans. beyond just the physical toughness, elemental power, and immortality, archons live long lives due to the nature of their various "species", and they are not harmed mentally by the fact of immortality alone. of course, they experience grief and pain at the death of those around them, especially the original archons ascended their thrones due to a pre-existing affection for humanity, but the act of being immortal means the actual passage of time hurts less. ei was able to seal herself away for centuries prior to the inazuma archon quests, and focalors was similarly. though the experiences cant have been pleasant, they didnt result in the same internal collapse furina had. it also shows why immortality is only described as a curse when it is in reference to humans (or former humans). also unrelated note but furina and neuvilette's relationship is so sweet, he really does seem like a father figure, and the vision he gives furina has a unique frame that has dragon claws clutching the stone, as if she is a precious treasure he is holding and protecting 🥺
Interesting fact (if I’m wrong please correct me) but there was a huge translation error of Furinas story quest. In the Chinese version the traveler and paimon are insanely friendly with furina and still comfort her but somehow someone made such a huge mistake that gave us this version where the traveler and paimon are insanely mean. But yes in the original version traveler is actually furinas friend
Ngl, the problem with Furina story quest is how at the end, it implied that going foward Furina will not be involved with the Divine(TM) or the main conflict and that position will be taken by Neuvillette instead. What I mean is, in the other Archons story quest, their first act is always about them being involved with mortal stuff (Venti & Zhongli treasure hunting, Ei touring Inazuma, etc) but it ends with them reminding the player once again their position and importance as an Archon. It kept players at the edge of their seat because it remind us, that even tho we literally just have an adventure/date with this person, at the end of the day, there is still MUCH more we didn't know about them, and about Archons. With Furina however, at the end the spotlight is directed at Furina, but the importance is not. In fact, it was taken by the act of her receiving a Vision, something that _Neuvillette_ gave her. The one that showed their power at the end is not Furina, but instead the hidden dragon who was supposed to be her right hand man. And with that, it marks how Furina has left the stage, and now Neuvillette is at the center.
Great video. Although I don't agree with some points. One being that just because Furina is strong it means she doesn't need to be comforted. A hug and a "you did great" shouldn't be infantilizing. Hell, I don't know how many children even get that. Second is the argument that Furina and Focalors aren't different entities. The moment Furina acted without Focalors that's the moment they became different beings. Just because they originate from the same single being doesn't mean they are the same. They branched off. Personhood is given by individuality. Furina acts and thinks independently of Focalors and one can exist without the other, thus they are different beings. If you were to be cloned that clone wouldn't be you. It'd be similar, but not exactly. Going further and wiping that clone's memories and having them live a different life with different experiences that would further distance it from you.
I'm a simple person, I see someone praising Furina, I hit the like button.
DAMN Right im with you
Yeah count me too
Guilty as charged
@@taiganb3463 no you are Guilty for you being existed in this planet for not knowing from Right and Wrong
Furina deserves the world, and we're gonna give it to her! 💙
her character was so well written and personally I loved her design, I don't regret pulling her at all
YEAAH!
SAME PULLED HER 9 MINS AFTER SHE WAS OUT
did not regret pulling for c1 and her weapon
I wanted her soo badly but lost my 50/50.(I got diluc)😭😭. I'm saving for her rerun.
@@kapa2205 Same I'm planning in c6ing her too 😭
I love the way they wrote Furina and Neuvillette because they have that little something Ei was missing during Inazuma's quest.
Well, there's Itto having beef with the stormy weather because like probably a lot of Inazumans he thinks it's related to Raiden (I do not remember if they ever confirmed that like they do with the hydro dragon don't cry thing)
It's a shame Ayato who does hold more power got introduced so late, he could have been in a position similar to Navia. The fact he's close with Yae could have done a lot like spreading the idea Ei isn't this all powerful unapproachable figure, there's more to her only people like Yae knows.
Ei really seems to have a lot of respect for Furina and her willpower. I hope they meet one day.
Basically what you said is she is an **shole that will kill anyone how disagree with her even if they are completely justified
So yeah the fact that everyone love her for no reason really is stupid @@silverhawkscape2677
Great breakdown
she's amazing. before the last part of the archon quest i liked her more than most people, i thought she was a funny "girlfailure" type but afterwards everything she did was super recontextualised for me. love her character a lot.
After archon quest she still kinda is girlfailurely, which makes me happy, that even through all the development Furina stayed the same character
She’s still girlfailure but genuine
@@Kokichusagree, I liked that they stayed true to what was initially shown ,it completely recontextualizes the view on the character yet it doesn't actually change her at all
thats the reason why she fell flat compared to what every other fountaine character gave... also clorinde is there i guess but she aint that important. Shes just the cutesy extroverted type for the simps to get their hands on her, then telling us shes been faking it for 500 years, While that made her less worse shes still not good for me. Also gameplay wise shes literraly just fischl but water
@@ObviOneKenobi bro did not watch the video
Also changing the requirements of a team (necessitating a healer) is part of a gameplay
@@lagrangewei there's many reasons why. That just seems like one of the core ones to me tho
There's also Alhathem ( can't spell the name right ) who is just neutral towards them.
I’ve seen many people draw parallels between Wanderer and Furina and I love seeing that. The two really are more similar than I would have thought.
I love this comment so much that I saw in Twitter "the other was thrown because of his humanity, while the other was cherished because of her humanity" 😭
@@heartsvinelle35BRUHHH
@@heartsvinelle35 I actually have a knack to pick with that tweet, I hate Ei as much as the next person but she was merciful on Scara
She didn't "throw him away", she left him alone to find his own destiny rather than be a puppet who only served to house a gnosis (plus Miko was the one who wanted to take him out).
What bout scara :(
"She was perfectly human"
from the moment i saw her leaks, i fell in love. she was a must pull for me. when 4.0 came out, i fell in love with her bratty and cocky personality, and even though the fandom despised her i loved her with all my heart...
and i was so surprised in 4.2, when hoyo showed her lore and her real backstory, and wrote her so beautifully. though i wasnt surprised the fandom turned around completely the same way they did with nahida lol
i am now a proud C1 (accidental) furina main! 💞
Congratulations and you have my respect. I felt much the same, all the way from the leaks. I saved 471 wishes for her and I regret NOTHING.
There are better options that you can use that also give you buffs, while Ousia Furina (short hair Furina) is an amazing sub DPS along with giving great buffs
Pneuma form was the form she was in while acting as the Archon while Ousia was the true her before Focalors told her the role she was supposed to play. Meaning that the best way to play Furina is to let her be herself and be free
Wait omg I love that 😭🩷
OHH MY GOD YOUR BRAIN..YOUR BRAIN SO MASSIVE..GOD IM SO IN LOVE WITH THIS EXPLAINATION THANKS
awww furina is the best
well that isn't true for c6 furina xD
What I find fascinating about the traveller’s dynamic with Furina is that she has zero reason to be attached to them at all. They’ve basically always been antagonistic.
Since the writing tends to err toward letting players feel like their avatar is universally beloved, it makes the relationship stand out.
Yet it’s not a good thing at all because it’s the result of bad writing.
@@mapleflag6518 It'd be a good thing if it was acknowledged in-story... But the story quest seems to brush over that fact, which is a little jaring.
@@Talyrion i agree but i am talking about the event
They are the same so therefore they shouldn’t have different sounding voices but they do
i love how layered her character is and how she's a really good example of how it feels to mask your personality to go about your day for what feels like forever and how tiring and depersonalising it becomes, which a lot of people can relate to
+ her design is so good at displaying her personality it's so elegant and she's giving gender
I immediately pulled for her after quest
Her VA did an amazing job at causing my trauma, now i can't hear her voicelines during rain without a flashback
yeah, i got her before the AQ and everytime it rained, before i did it i'd go like:
"oh rain doesn't work like that, silly, don't be so dramatic"
but after i did it:
"you don't need to worry about the prophecy anymore, everything will be alright"
What is her rain voiceline? I don’t have her yet
@@WardianPurpur29 "Ugh, it's pouring out here! Wait, the waters levels aren't rising, are they?"
@@blackjovian9414 Tysm!! Poor girl 😭😭
I love Furina character writing and presentation, I think she's peak Genshin Impact and "absolute cinema".
considering how much of a golden child bronya is for hoyo I hope they put just as much if not MORE effort into the tsaritsa
If they did that… I think that she would be even better than FURINA in terms of writing… I think…
Orobashi is Kokomi's deity, and this arrangement may make Kokomi's already poorly rated plot worse
7:19 suffering in the prison was to make us feel a bit like Furina :3
Great Video do have a few things to say that were missed well less missed but they could be the reason for their actions in Furinas story quest (doesn't really explain Ei though, Perhaps the travler just resonated with EI? they both lost a sibling in a sense and the traveler gets along well with martial types,........ Or maybe they want Ei to step on them Who knows?)
1.PAIMON- Likely the reason that Paimon is so rude is that unlike Papa water dragon or the traveler, Paimon never actually saw what Furina went through which is likely why she is so rude beyond just being Paimon (even if the traveler told her it would not have the same effect as seeing it play our in front of your eyes)
2. I know that may seem like a jump but if you read some of the dialogue choices and think about the travelers actions it becomes more obvious The traveler was once incredibly powerful and even while diminished the travelers sword skills are in the level of mastery (there have been a few dialogues saying such) however the traveler gets that power stollen away and gets thrown around in the Mondstadt bodied by La signora and fails, next country traveler is more powerful but still gets beaten by the fatui and more importantly by la signora, next country guess what beaten by the fatui loses a friend and immediately goes on a rage filled murder spree against them and gets bodied by Hat guy, Until eventually they come across signora again and immediately challenges her to a death match enforced by a god there are a few other examples around plus the fact that a lot of the travelers speech options for side quests are greed based and it becomes apparent that the traveler is not a paragon of virtue, even in the masquerade of the guilty when the traveler was Dashing to Furina their thoughts were "I must have Answers"
Now don't get me wrong I'm not saying that the traveler is a selfish arse but there defiantly not a squeaky clean SI Lumine for sure is quite snarky
The only way to fix furina's story quest, is for her second story quest to start out paimon feeling guilty, and they meet up with furina to start the story quest
YEAH I ABSOLUTELY AGREE WITH YOU👍
THIS WILL BE THE BEST WAY👌TO START FURINA💙🤍 SECOND STORY QUEST 💯
FRRR It should be “Hey Traveler, shouldn’t we check on Furina again?” Or smth like that, make Paimon more likeable to lure in players to like her and when a heartbreaking scene of Paimon ever comes up, there are more ppl to be sadder instead of cheering lol
To me, Furina is more than a fictional character, she is by far the best well written character in the game.
girl literally put on an act for 500 years every single day just for the sake of fontainian
i love furina so much
I don’t know how Hoyo is going to be able to top Furina‘s character writing but I hope it’s only uphill from here on. This is how you write an amazing character with so much depth and personality! Also, I hope character stories going forward uses Navia’s story quest as the baseline. It was literally about her from start to finish, really delving deep into her character. This should be the standard for all character stories.
I would actually defend the harsh actions of Paimon and Traveller during Furina's story quest because:
I find the how amicably The Traveler and Paimon interact with Childe really awkward in my opinion.
Neuvillette and Furina are easily my favourite characters.
Exactly she’s one of the characters that could legitimately follow us around on our journey and not be restrained by obligations.
SAMMEEEEEEEEEEE❤❤❤❤❤
I have a few miscellaneous thoughts that I can't put into a paragraph each so I'll just bullet point them here:
- the little oceanic seemed way too similar to furina's story to be a believable coincidence
- I feel that furina's relationship to performing is a bittersweet one as despite how much she loves it, how much of that love can be real? it's all she's ever known, of course familiarity feels good. (it's why I love that they went down the director furina route more than performer furina)
- I really do wish Furina's interaction with Neuvillette was more emotional and at least gave closure on them, through his voice lines Neuvillette seems extremely regretful of what happened.
I just wanna give Furina a big hug (id also like to put tape over Paimons mouth because of some of the stuff she’s said to/about her😭)
My top 5 characters now are furina , scara , cyno , xiao , nahida , best written characters for me 🤍🤍
Another banger video essay
29:22 counterpoint: the traveller is SO AWKWARD all the time I think it fits but you make a good point
She literally made me cry. Im not joking, she will always be the real hydro archon in my heart 🎀
Her vision story is some of the funniest thing I've read in genshin and something that I would totally do given the chance. And also Focalors entire plan can be summed up with Gaslight Gatekeep Girlboss. Truly the archon of all time
"You are a devious one, Focalors."
"I'm a genius, I know~"
I loved Furina the day I saw the trailer, and I CANNOT begin to express how much I love that the fandom finally recognizes her amazinhg personality!!!!1!
I never really cared about genshin before watching your videos but the sheer quality of your content has gotten me obsessed.
(Rephrased to better convey what I meant)
thank you so much😭😭
@@otsuucurry thank YOU! You're such an amazing creator, you absolutely deserve every like, subscription, and compliment you get!
MY HEART IS BEATING SO FAST, FURINA IS MY ABSOLUTE FAVOURITE AND I'M SO EXCITED TO WATCH THE VIDEO AAH I HOPED YOU'D MAKE A VID ON HER AND MY WISHES HAVE COME TRUEE
I enjoyed furina and fontaine's story as well as your video. Thank you 👍❤️
It's easy. She's humanized like April O'Neil who my father has loved back in late 1980s. She's like a human friend and not a harem girl.
furina is peak genshin
Unlike others I’ve always liked Furina’s character from the start. She was so funny
She was my first 5 star. i have immense bias towards her, and i actually cried at her story quest.
you deserve that 10k your videos are really good
It would have been better if the beginning was traveler running into Clorinde as she was checking in on Furina, realizing they should probably do the same and maybe apologize to her (that apology is optional only because the story quest can be done anytime you want) and then meet her at her new place as Clorinde does some small talk on how Furina's trying to be independent.
I swear this music 1:53 it just makes me cry uncontrollably everytime i hear it
As a Furina day 1 lover I know I’m bias but she truly did capture my heart.
Such a well put together video well u deserve a sub just as much as Furina deserves a hug.🎉🎉
OMG I WAS WAITING FOR YOU TO TALK ABOUT HER!
When 4.2 released i lost 5050 to dehya but then got furina the next 10 pull
Im kinda late lol but everything you said I 100% agree with. I felt like Furina and the Traveler should've had some type of conversation post archon quest (more than her current)and I hope we get that in maybe an act 2 sometime in the future. I want to see her be able to make those deep connections. I just want her to have all the screen time lol
by far my favorite genshin character. i love her SO SO much.
I love her ,she is just such s darling ,and fact her story can connect to many other famous women .And how she just flawed yet creative and loving .Amazing .
Initially, I legit *hated* her, I thought she was shallow and obnoxious and a terrible archon…
Then, I played Act IV….
SHES AN ICON
SHES A LEGEND
AND SHE ISSSSS THE MOMMENT 💅💅
NOW COME ON NOW 🥰
One thing, I find amazing and humours at the same time is that the god of justice statue, that exist in our world, depicts to hold a scale and a sword.
Small side rant about Furina’s story quest:
I do have one nitpick about her story quest, from experience it takes a very long period of reflection to go back to something that has caused you pain and has pain linked to it in any way, yes all those years I had quit ballet I had been thinking about why I quit, why was I doing it in the first place, what would it do for me if I went back, did I really want to do it, do I even like it? You have to answer various questions to be alright going back of your own volition and that’s what makes it impactful. But I understand what they tried to do and they probably needed to get her story quest out on time before Natlan comes out and for content while Fontaine is still fresh as to not kill the excitement, basically striking while the iron is hot. She also sort of got pushed into it when the whole idea should be her finally making a decision for herself within her freedom. Then again 500 years of trauma and healing from it would take a long time and it would be hard to depict it in such a short time. There was something else I wanted to say but I kind of forgot 😅
I am so happy that i started doing character storry quests a while after doing all the archon quests (i've started playing in 4.1)
I LOVE FURINA SO MUCH
AAA Furina is my fave character currently, so excited to hear you talk about her!!!
she became my favorite character the second the final feast teaser dropped, her design was so good that i loved her so much. and when we finally met her in the fontaine archon quest? instantly started saving and begun planning to replace my main since my early days (keqing) just for her.
even when the game is over, i think i'll forever hold the bias that fontaine is one of the best archon quests ever. the suspense? the gameplay? the story telling? don't even get me started on skirk's lore bomb at the end..
She went from:
1. A narcissistic archon
2. A fraud
3. A broken heroine (not the drug)
11:35 "it's implied some time has passed after the archon quest" omg you blessed soul. I thought I was the only one thinking about this possibility. Please, have my sub.
also, let me be clear before I get a wall of text, I agree with every criticism she added on this video about her story quest.
She was my 3rd 5star. Didn't exactly know how to use her and didn't know her story. (Was AR 15 then.) But i still adored her shining personality.😊
Genshin is terrible when it comes to localization issues, it’s like 4Kids.
For me that place forever remians with Zhongli.
your content is really super nice!! It got me to read the genshin story and I’ve been enjoying genshin a lot more now
I originally loved during because ima. Sucker for stuck up tsunderes but loved her more after she was revealed to have played it as an act
