    Further update
    Some may know that bad satellite positioning on our Pioneer unit led us to look for a better solution, especially after our nightmare on that hill in IOM episode 5. This evening I tested the Garmin Glo 2 with our Pioneer system under dense tree canopy and it was fast and accurate. Before the position would be off in the fields. The Garmin Glo 2 was connected to my phone by Bluetooth and the iPhone was connected to the Pioneer by USB.
    Our next Isle of Man episode will be out on Saturday 👍

    Good point about air vents for cooling the device / ipad - I made sure my phone mount is in front of the middle air vents. As when mounted it runs a bit warmer than normal with sat nav running and is usually wirelessly charging. So good to do - blow cold air on back of it especially on warm days.

    • @LifeistooshortCK
      @LifeistooshortCK  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Just make sure the GLO2 is connected in Bluetooth settings. If it’s using the GLO2 the position will be updated much more often than when using the inbuilt GPS so it’s more accurate with very little lag.

    I bought one of these based on your vid and it works great (thank you). However, my ipad seems to drink it's charge when using it with google maps. It seems to want more juice than the charger is putting in, so doesn't last long. As mine is an older ipad, i'm sure that is the issue.

    • @LifeistooshortCK
      @LifeistooshortCK  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      We tried a few iPads. I wanted to use an old 12.9 pro but just couldn’t keep it charged long enough. I went into the Apple Store looking for a charger for the car that would work and was advised that the only thing that would not run down no matter how long the journey was the base model ipad so we got one of those. One thing you could try although I have not tested it is using the actual charger you use at home plugged into a small inverter. I carry a 300 watt inverter and I am sure it would power an iPad charger easily. The downside is fan noise from the inverter but you could always shield it in a box. 👍

    I bought a Garmin GLO 2 myself to use with my iPad wifi only model.
    I have a question for you.
    When GLO 2 is powered ON and PLUGGED IN, does your status LED work properly? Does it seem like it is alternate blinking between green & orange?? I had my GLO2 charging for almost 4 hours and that is what I see. As per the manual that means "Faulty battery or system error". I read from one review that it appears like that but is working normally.
    So I am wondering how yours is?

    I am not clear how having a SIM card in the iPad makes positioning faster or more accurate
    It is possible to use the mobile 'phone signals from two or more 'phone masts to provide an estimate of position but it is much less accurate than GPS

    • @LifeistooshortCK
      @LifeistooshortCK  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The sim models have a dedicated gps chip in them like your phone but the non sim models just use an estimate from WiFi signals. When you are out in the sticks that soon fails and my iPad Pro was useless. It has nothing to do with the sim slot, I mentioned the slot as being the easiest way for people to know if their iPad is likely to work or not. Mind you any mobile device paired with the Garmin Glo 2 works super fast and better accuracy and speed than our phones.
