I’m a plumbing apprentice now. I’ll be 19 this year. I did a program my senior year to finish school early and immediately got an apprenticeship. Your videos help with a lot that I’m learning, I try to practice some of the techniques you teach on your channel and at times I’ve actually impressed the tech I was working with when doing so. Just wanted to thank you for putting out the videos, it really helps people out.
Speaking as someone who spends all day in front of a computer (doing programming), there's another side of "physically rewarding" that's a great thing about plumbing. When you do a day's work, you can look at what you did and there's something physically right there to be proud of. There's nothing like that feeling of walking up to a problem and having the right tools and skills and being able to fix it in a way that you can put your hands on. That's probably the biggest thing I miss in my current job.
You forgot to say about how good it feels to help people at the end of the day specifically when they had a very bad experience with other plumbers at least the dishonest one's
Hey Roger, I'm a hopeful plumbing apprentice and just wanted to say thanks for putting out the great information! I've been learning as much as I can at home during quarantine before I start my pre-apprenticeship course and your videos are awesome! Stay safe and keep doing your thing. Much support from Canada!👊👊👍👍
I like your confidence. I’ve had a bad 5 day run derfective parts. Put a water heater in and there was no laundry tub so I didn’t have anywhere to purg all the dirt or scale in the home. I bought a 300 dollar kitchen sink faucet. I ended up being there 3 days cleaning out everything in the house. That didn’t rock but it’s been 5 years with no problems anyway just wanted to share my week I had. In all I got lucky I make 90 an hr not all the time but a lot of people I know have 9 to 5 job making crap money. It’s a great trade if your a kid that’s not going to college. Sorry for writing a book but I love your channel and your confidence.
Honestly sir the entire video lifted my spirits but especially point 5, the fact that we are essential was one of the main reasons I chose this career path. With everything going on in the world today it’s good to know there are people like you out there bringing light to our livelihood. God bless! I look forward to more content, I have a lot to catch up on in the mean time!!
I had to subscribe to you man! Your very funny and so inspiring Mr. Wakefield, I was deciding between Plumber or mechanic for a trade but I’m going to choose plumber now however I am nervous about going under house lol.
Thought about being a plumber, but became a electrician working for a mixed trade 80 year old family company for the last 20 years always had enough work.
Rodger, I love the videos...I love real professional tradesmen.. I just past the tsbpe inspector exam. Love that we are all professional out there. Away with the handymen
Thanks for the information Roger! I'm really wanting to get into the field when I can and your videos are really helping me grasp some concepts prior to my apprenticeship! Thanks so much man.
These videos are great. I'm going to a technical college near me. I should be starting the 11 month program Aug 10 . My plan is to take the class, they should help me get a job. I'll work a while, pay my license off then eventually run my own service truck an work for myself
Strongly considering going back to school for plumbing this fall. I Grew up farming and now work in a lab... Not a huge fan of this working indoors at a computer all day, I think it's time to go back to working with my hands and not stare at a screen.
personal experience fuk school for plumbing, unless your union then you have to take classes thru the union. why pay for the knowledge when u can get paid to learn..
Chicks dig it? Please. They dig Electricians more. What? I worked for a union electrical company when I was in college. When I would wear my company shirts at parties it always worked like a charm. The pretty college boys didn't stand a chance. Looking back if I had someone like Roger provide career guidance when I was in HS it is quite likely that I would have become a plumber and have my own business instead of being an engineer working for someone else. BTW, I come from a blue collar family and was raised turning wrenches, driving nails, and repairing anything that needed it and still do. My chick digs it.
Well at least the one thing and plumbing is solid Mass goes downhill and you get paid on Friday usually you're the clog of that solid Mass at the bottom of the pie lol
Hey Roger Just Want to say thank you for making these Videos. I realized 2 Months Ago That I want to join the plumbing Trade. I’m up here in NJ and it’s been tough To even get an Interview or a Call back. Do you Have Any recommendations On how To Get Started as a Green apprentice?
Where in NJ are you? I am a plumbing contractor and maybe looking to hire someone soon. I would prefer someone with some experience but if you have a valid drivers license, can speak English and are responsible, that's a big plus.
@@stevecones1557 I'm in ocean county, so probably too far away. My advice is try to get into the union. I've never been union but when it comes to working in the trades around here, union guys make a better living. Working in the trades in NJ isn't all that great in general, but really sucks on the residential side. Mostly because of the people you have to deal with and other headaches. It's also not a sure way to make a good living even as a business owner. I wouldn't do it again if I could go back and start over.
But yet you say new construction commercial plumbers aren’t essential??? So the world should stop for all plumbers except service plumbers ??? Service plumbers are 100 times more of a chance to to be exposed to this crap going on . Have to whole hardly disagree with that
What's more important fixing plumbing issues in a building that is occupied? Or installing plumbing in a building that is not yet occupied. I would say that one can wait the other is an emergency
It’s not the trade that’s essential. It’s the fact that living people have access to water. Construction is not supplying anyone with drinking water today. A service plumber can make a repair and get someone’s water back on right then. Nothing bad against construction. Just trying to explain essential in this circumstance. I did construction for many years. We all need that too.
