- Outstanding maneuverability that nearly rivals 3D airframes coupled with a super inexpensive price point - the @freewingmodel977 is just ridiculously good and comes highly recommended, even if it has a couple of gear issues that they'll hopefully address in the future.

@ 10:00 - Yep 1,000,000% - Fly however you LOVE to fly!!! Nice video - looks very nice!
I really appreciate you and tailheavy calling the trolls out, it actually has a positive impact. Tailheavy did a video which our club president played a couple years back. He basically said if your one of these people feel free to not continue membership. our field was dying from lack of new members same 26 guys every year on property in California that's worth millions these days wasn't making sense. 2 years later you can't find parking.
People who hate on pilots for not flying the way they think they should, hating on pilots for flying with gyro stabilization, hating on pilots for using foam, etc - these people are gatekeeping and are cancerous to the growth of model aviation. Every person who treats people poorly like that thinks they're better than everyone else because and that's why they're a real pilot and you're not. We've got no issues calling out that kind of sordid behavior - fewer people like that means more people will stick around and enjoy flying.
That’s a great club leader . Gotta weed people out . I just got into the hobby less than a year ago and not into the vibe of the ones I’ve seen . There’s a lot of room growth
Where in CA?
The anti-gyro snobs crack me up! I for one, occasionally need to flip on self-leveling so I can use one hand to scratch an itch or defog my glasses! When the cross-winds kick up right about landing time... I cheerfully flip the switch and use the tools at hand!
Gyros are so useful. Not a whole lot of people use them like we do (simulating a flight computer), but a lot of people use them the way you do. Including us. Anyone who shames you for flying with a gyro is an arse and isn't worth listening to or being around.
What a joy to watch you fly the way you do with this jet. As a sort of beginner pilot I’m impressed with your skills. Thanks for sharing and keep the gyros do their work! Hands 🙌🏾 and greetings from the Netherlands 🇳🇱
Jon was a beginner at one point, too. Everyone starts somewhere. The more you fly, the better you'll get. Thanks for watching!
Excellent, keep em coming
This is a without a shadow of a doubt one of the best RC plane reviews I have seen in a very long time. In particular the section on the Gyro was fantastic food for thought. Excellent stuff.
Glad you enjoyed it, and thanks for the thoughts!
@@TwoBrosRC I thought what you said at the end about dealing with grumpy sods at the field was spot on. Also this addresses that when a gyro is used right it doesn't take away skill it adds to what a plane can do. Classic case in point is the F-22 demo and the Su-35S demo at Paris in 2013.
Just ordered one, thanks for the review.
Hope you enjoy it!
Watching your videos makes me want to try jets but I’m not quite there yet. I will be soon I hope. Keep the great videos coming they are very inspiring and informative!!
Well said there at the end brother! 👏👏 I love my F-16 such a fun plane. I actually had the previous version as well and that came with soft foam wheels. Wish they would have kept those instead of the hard plastic ones they come with now.
It is true. I meet some into yiro rc pilotes. At the field but the have hard time to land on windy days. I love yiro it helps a lot
By the way, I took a chance and ordered the servos you linked in the description. I just tried them, I was very pleased and surprised. Quiet, powerful, plenty of throw. Will be ordering more. Good recommendation.
Glad you like them! We only recommend what we know will work.
How did you reverse one without dedicating a channel to each servo?
You'd need a servo reverser. Check Amazon
@@TwoBrosRC Do you prefer a cable based servo reverser solution o reversing it via a dedicated channel? What's more reliable?
Dude, looking forward to your ultimate review of the freewing mirage, liked what you did with the merry Boozer, but would love to hear your in-depth analysis!
We'll get one at some point!
Nice video - see you at Nall!
Great video, as always Jon.
Question, was the footage pre or post 1900kV motor upgrade? Those recoveries were wild! 😃
Almost everything here was 1900kv footage. Thanks man!
Now that’s is an impressive jet for the money. Fantastic flying an of course your skills… !
Sad when people have to hate on others for flying with a gyro. Had a hater at my local field tell me I could really only be a real RC pilot if I flew without a gyro. I asked him if he was going to buy me a new plane if I wrecked it?? He shut up and moved on to talking about how there was "too much foam flying today", shut him up when I asked where his plane was. (He didn't have one). I suspect he could not fly and just wanted to make others mad...misery loves company after all.
Great Video John. Think I might pickup the servos and plane.
Good on you for standing up to that BS!
What is most important thing with RC flying? For me its to have fun😁😁... And foam jets is the most fun for me, compare to the price😉... We also have this foam haters here... But they dont get any better at flying... And we with the foam planes evolves and have get to new level, even we are not so young anymore🤣🤣

Great video as per john ! love the layout and explanations you give, the link for the servos cant be reached tho
Sorry about that, missed a letter. We always screw something up. tinyurl.com/B11DLS is the link you're looking for.
great review as always! i actually picked up an eflite 70mm f-16 a week or two ago, and i’m liking it except for the part where i can’t seem to figure out how to enter high alpha. i’m not sure how to tune throttle, speed, momentum, elevator, etc, and i’m currently navy-landing on grass. do you have any pointers for entering high alpha?
Absolutely, try this vid for help around the 5 minute mark: th-cam.com/video/7vlJYCuCV44/w-d-xo.html
I'm thinking high speed pattern fliers probably don't need a gyro. But...if you fly it to its limits and beyond you'll need one.
Thanks for the video and sharing such interesting information. Since I am not bilingual I need to understand some things:
-To make the taileron do you have to change the elevator servos? or just assign a different channel for each elevator servo?
-Regarding the improvements to the landing gear, can you tell me what they consist of? I understand that something has to be folded...
-I also see that your F16 almost always goes in "harrier", do you do that with the controls?
Forgive the language inconveniences.
Kind regards,
Alfonso
The differential stabilators (e.g. "tailerons") aren't dependent upon the servos, it's a mix set up by plugging both servos into different channels. The gear are aluminum struts. The high alpha passes you're referring to are done by holding the nose up with throttle.
@@TwoBrosRC Thanks a lot!
The elevators came in seperate cables? they are connected with a Y conector? You change the elevator servos because the included servos not perform eough travel?
wonderful . Great work. Questions: 1/ why not use low bounce wheels? 2/ with tailerons, so the 2 control surfaces on the wings are only for flaps? ❤❤❤❤❤
Weight is a factor when performing stunts like what you saw here. Going as light as possible (stock wheels) is ideal, but FW should still be able to make lightweight wheels that don't sound horrible. The flaperons operate in conjunction with the stabilators to roll the jet.
@@TwoBrosRC thanks for great advices as always. :-)
I finally just put a gyro in my yak. Some situations are just hard to predict and react to when it’s windy and I don’t have the money to buy new planes and parts all the time . Gyro can also be an economic choice
Nice😁😁😁... Have 2 if this F16 70mm... It seams realy tempting try 1 with gyro... Its realy a fun smal jet 😁. I'm almost on my 3rd of this.. Have worn out 1,5 now😂😂
Just got this practicing with the slow stick first
Great vid with insane moves. I have the same one but the FMS edf upgrade sounds interesting. How much did you need to remove of the foam. Do you have the name of the fms edf? Or product code
The foam hatch needs to be sanded down a bit, then you use a sharp hobby knife to cut a straight line where the FMS intake lip meets the existing lip that a FW fan would fit into - that way the FMS fan sits solidly in the duct and won't bulge the hatch. You'll also need to cut a little foam away to fit the fan into the jet at all - you'll know what we're talking about when you attempt to put the fan in, but it's easy to do.
This is the fan we're using: www.fmshobby.com/products/edf-system-70mm-12-blade-6s-power-system-with-3060-kv1900-motor-pro?ref=2brosrc
@@TwoBrosRC thanks! I know this not interesting to you but will this edf still work with the same ESC and thrust reverse(i have a short runway)
It should be the same ESC - 80 amp. Thrust reverse should work fine too.
I just maidened one of these this week. I already had an FMS1900 EDF, ESC, AR631 laying around so it only cost me $235.00 After watching your excellent flights I'm wanting to set this F16 up with Tailerons. Question: Is it possible to use the 6th channel of that AR631 for tailerons and could AS3X also be used with that control surface?
Yeah, just make sure you've set the wing and tail types before programming the gyro. It's easier to explain this on Discord via bit.ly/TBRCDiscord
I wanna buy the v3 and keep it in the box, store it in the closet and continue to fly my Freewing F16 v2. What a great iconic airframe.
Why not fly the v3 instead? It's so much better.
@@TwoBrosRCand limit the life of the older generation, no way. I’m going to make a mistake and she’ll be toast.
The full scale F16 is unflyable without computers, without gyros ❤❤❤❤❤
Try to get some Flex innovations products to review. Mamba 6e or Cap 23260e. Curious to see if any Flex model suits u without replacing everything.
Already ahead of you there. We've filmed the Twin Otter on wheels, just waiting for our floats to finally ship after placing an order in late November.
Do you fly with tailerons and only have the ailerons as flaps? By the way, really nice shirt you have.
Tack så mycket! The flaperons and differential stabs are operating all the time in roll.
@@TwoBrosRC Kommer du från Sverige?
Jon's family is from Sweden.
I have one. This plane has two flaws. The wing is too small giving little lift (meaning higher airspeeds for everything especially landings), and a weak BEC. I crashed because of a Freewing BEC failure. If you are going to buy one, buy the ARF version and put a quality ESC/BEC in there, with a capacitor in the receiver. I since repaired mine and I'm flying it with a BEC bypass cable, and a separate receiver battery pack and an a4 gyro. Overall a good plane with some tweaks and upgrades. My biggest issue was FREEWING and MOTIONRC not manning up and taking responsibility for the inferior BEC.
What temp are you flying in? The esc in the DF tube gets incredible good cooling. And stay ok with very much higher current than rated.. But i live in a cold place...max 20 celsius.. That might be the reason..
38C. It’s hot. But I think the gear binding was the cause of the BEC failure. To me that’s a defect.
Hey John, I got it in and assembled with 11g servos. You stated the setup is the same as your 80mm video which I plan to follow. Is there any changes since then that you’d recommend?
No changes offhand that we can think of. If you want yours to perform like ours, make sure you're using the same stabilator linkage setup on the same servos. Anything else may be too slow to get the same level of performance.
Edit: CG is crucial too, but expect to have a hard time flying it sans gyro. AS3X with 100 to 120 Priority and throttle-based gains will make it very maneuverable but also artificially stable. Otherwise it can be real hell to fly.
@@TwoBrosRC I appreciate it. I’ll give it a go, and if it ends badly… I know where to find your link. Lol
Unfortunately we don't make any money from promoting MotionRC, but the thought (knowing where to find our links) is always appreciated! 🧡
@TwobrosRC Would be possible to get your gyro setup using Reflex V3 + ELRS or Futaba Rx instead of Spektrum SAFE/AS3X Rx?
Even if you were to send over a transmitter and all the equipment we'd need, Reflex isn't capable of this type of stabilization. That is one of many reasons we stick with Spektrum and the AS3X gyro system - it has fully customizable tail/wing types that the gyro understands and works with and can be persuaded to operate like a full scale flight computer.
It's not as inexpensive as other options, but you're definitely getting a lot of versatility.
@@TwoBrosRCThank You very much. One last question, Spektrum Tx is a must or is possible to use Radiomaster TX16S?
We'd suggest going Spektrum. The RM radios should be OK, but they're far more difficult to learn and require hacky workarounds to get Spektrum functionality. Plus there's also the fact that they're only cheap because they're a Chinese company that didn't have to pay the R&D costs associated with creating a radio protocol, and because they don't support a network of US-based employees or US-based hobby shops like Horizon does. So while they're more inexpensive than Spektrum radios, it's for all the wrong reasons in our viewpoint, and we're happy to spend more to support an American company.
Do the upgraded servos have one in the set that is reversed for correct direction? I want to upgrade my L-39 and one stock servo is reversed.
Thanks
They do, a servo reverser can do that for you.
and about takeoff and landing on a grass field ?
Would you recommend this for a beginner jet?
If you're new to jets but not new to flying, it could be a good learning platform. The Habu is probably a better choice though.
Was it a lot of carving to fit the 80 mm ?
Nope, it uses a 70mm.
Do you think that the stock power system should be fine to do what you like to do?
Probably, but the FMS fan does provide a little more power.
Did you have a 100amp esc or an 80? The stock comes with 80 and I’m thinking of swapping it to a 100 to handle the high voltage of the smc batteries. Do you think I should have the 100amp?
Also did you program your gyro to have 2x sensitivity and went from there or did you keep 1x
Using a Gyro isnt a bad thing and I hate that theres an entire group of people who do so. Its like TCS or traction control on a car. It may not be necessary or needed on certain vehicles. But Id rather have it than not. All tools in the toolbox have a use, none are a bad tool or are considered useless. Using whats at hand is considered working smarter not harder.
Enjoy the hobby, heres one thing that I do that may irk a few. I dont fly Spektrum (at the moment) due to the price. I use FlySkys FSi6 radio and a 6 or 10 channel reciever. A radio that comes in at only 50-65 bucks and has carried me through the hobby. Just because everyone flies differently, doesnt make it bad. Fly how you want and whats fun to you. Thats what matters and why I joined the hobby. Apologies on the rant lol
Rant away, never apologize for having a respectfully stated opinion!
Are these discontinued? I found one on fb. Thx
Nah, v3 came out late last year. There's no way it would be discontinued already.
Hi everyone. New flyer here. What does "feathering the sticks" mean and is there a tutorial video on this technique?
That's the first we've heard of it
@@TwoBrosRC I think it's mainly used doing a "knife edge"
Feathering would be small movements back and forth to achieve the center. Like feathering throttle on a car when doing a burnout. You’re not holding full, but your kind of stabbing it.
@@OregonMotorcycle Thank you folks! Are there any tutorials out there?
I am an anti-safe mode snob I guess. I understand and do use what could be called as3x. For some model aircraft, especially edf jets, they need the assistance. But the safe mode to me is a bad crutch to use.
So to clarify, you're against SAFE - a tool you won't use, but a tool other people find useful to fly planes that they own. Could you explain why you actually care if it's a crutch or not?
In our view, the hobby needs less gatekeeping and more positivity. Encourage people to fly, regardless of whether they need a SAFE-like system to fly. Don't be that guy who makes people want to stop flying.
@@TwoBrosRC I think you’re taking what I said the wrong way. I encourage beginners to join. Matter of fact I just got my son flying on his own. I don’t look down on anyone using the assistant and I was sticking up for you using it in a jet. In my personal experience the safe mode can and will cause a crash in certain airframes others it enhances the beginners experience but after saying that I taught my son without safe.
Perhaps, our apologies if it came off combative. It's difficult to tell online who's being sincere and who's just being antagonizing, especially in model aviation - so many troll comments start with "SAFE is a crutch and that's why you'll never be a real pilot"
@@TwoBrosRC safe is a beginners learning tool and should not be anything other. As3x is a whole different rabbit hole. I get the combative nature and I could have worded my comment differently
I should really upgrade my batteries then lmao. I get 2 1/2 minutes with 4000 lipos no where near the 4+ minutes you achieved. But could also be that I’m running XRP 70mm edfs which sucks lots of power
That's probably part of it. We fly jets almost exclusively with SMC batteries and they never disappoint.
@@TwoBrosRCwould love to fly smc but the last time I checked they only sold in US and no way to ship them to Europe sadly
@@chrisaviationrchard to get shipped to New Zealand too. It sort of slows us down from getting the same experience
Is there an F15 like that?
Not like this, unfortunately.
The anti gyro fanatics are insane. Yeah the real F-16s have fly by wire so damnit I’m putting gyros in my F-16 models 😆
Gyro that thing 😂
Already did lol
The way you fly it is not complimentary to it anyways.
Oh no, anyway.
I'm not against using a gyro..it's whatever you're comfortable with. But this jet flies well without it
Sure, if you're flying nose heavy without huge throws.
150 elevator, 100 aileron, 150 rudder, 65% expo, no bluebox, 8 channel 8020t, Taileron setup, flap mix, & stock servos. & i love em Tail heavy!
🇰🇭🇰🇭🇰🇭
Uh OK
Just sayin…really enjoyed your natural voice and cadence before you started being so intentional with vocal inflection. A stark contrast between your real voice while walking us through the plane and your voice during narration. Authenticity is lacking nowadays in general, be yourself and stay authentic please. Authentic is much more appreciated.
Thanks,
A hopeful subscriber
Thanks for the feedback! Jon prefers talking like this since it's difficult for him to read a voiceover script without intentional inflection, otherwise it turns into flat monologuing. We get that it isn't for everyone, but that's the beauty of TH-cam - there's plenty of channels out there.
Where we disagree with you is that using a radio announcer voice isn't being authentic - that's conjecture. Our content speaks for itself. If someone thinks we're inauthentic because of the inflection being used, that's OK - but we don't agree at all.
Note to prospective buyers: It's a $289 dollar airplane that needs $160 in upgrades to make in perform correctly and last. So in the end it's a $445 dollar airplane.
Not accurate at all. It's a PNP airframe, meaning you need a receiver for it. That's how most airplanes work that aren't BNF models. The actual upgrade is the $20 set of servos. The stock motor is fine if yours isn't unbalanced.
Thanks for clarifying this. Great flying! @TwoBrosRC
@@TwoBrosRC Assuming most people will replace their gear because of hard landings at some point because of unstable low speed flying and high landing speed, coupled with a new ESC/BEC when the Freewing one burns out after 10 flights, it's a $450 airplane.
@@TwoBrosRC The steering servos and arm is extremely delicate. Expect multiple replacing of these. If they are bent and you try to fix the gear, expect high power drain from the gear, potentially leading to brown outs or BEC failure like in my first jet. It's a good plane, as long as it stays undamaged in the slightest. As an owner of two of these V3's, I would recommend a sturdier jet to people. Like the Avanti or F-22. The point is cheap is expensive. This "$289" ended up costing me what the F-22 costs.
If you're landing it like an F-16 and not like a Navy jet, those issues probably won't be an issue at all. Ours has been flown quite a bit with literally no issues - mostly because of proper technique, though some element of luck is probably present too given lackluster QC lately in model aviation.
Still rocking the first frewing f16tv with upgraded 11blade fan. What gyro
AS3X as always!
You know it’s a good jet when John’s cussin out of excitement 🫡😅
