This video has helped me realize that I have really grown as a Type 2. A few years ago I would have had many more things to work on, but it sorta feels like I've hacked life. I do work in a helping job, I am an oral surgery assistant and my favorite part is putting my patients at ease and holding their hand when they are anxious. Instead of saying no, I have learned to say "Sure, I can totally help you with that, I just won't be available until XYZ" (If I need to take a rest and get with them next week I allow for that time, if that timeline doesn't work for them, then they will have to find someone else. And I know my needs, I think that's part of growing up and becoming an adult is just being in tune with the things that make you really feel good and the things that just don't. It's amazing when you learn that you can tailor your life's experiences and encounters to keep yourself in a better mood and mental space. It's called self-care as was stated in the video. Parenting your inner child!

Can someone please help me figure out if I am a enneagram 2. When listening to all of the 2s core desires and fears and everything I relate a lot to the feeling of wanting to be needed and doing things and hoping in return people will appreciate or do something for me back. When it comes to that I think I am a two but I also feel like I don’t overextended myself to help people. Of course if someone ask for help I’ll do it but I feel like I am not a regally really helpful person. It might be becuase I am only in high school but idk. I also feel like I get into conflicts sometimes. I read somewhere that 2s never say no but I feel like with my family I almost always don’t want to do what they ask like empty the dishwasher or clean my room. I read a few books on all the different types and I don’t really feel like I match any of the other core desires and fears but idk. Anything would help. Also maybe I am a 2w3 becuase it seems more like me. I also could be a certain subtype so tell me what subtype you think I am

I’m a type 2! I’m currently In nursing school and work as a nursing assistant. I often listen to people’s stories, problems, and offer advise but typically don’t talk about myself. Like you said, if people were even to ask if I needed anything, I wouldn’t know what it is 😅 I struggle so much with understanding my own feelings but I can picture what others are feeling so clearly.

💗 I'm a 2w3 so I'll answer your questions. To your first question: people tend to come to me for advice or a shoulder to cry on or someone to listen. I let any and everyone do that with me and I don't mind. Sometimes people do abuse my friendship and the help I give them, and when I need someone to count on they are not really there. So, I think my true best friends are those kindred spirit friends who help me "unshelf" my needs and concerns and are attentive towards me and where I feel that my needs do matter.
To your second question, I'm a writer and teacher, but especially my writing and other artistic outlets have helped me realise what my needs are. Therapy has also made me realise that I grew up in an environment where communication isn't our strong suit, because both my mother and father struggle with voicing their own needs/wants/concerns, etc. Becoming aware of it has helped me exercise communication deliberately and has helped me grow to become more aware of these things in myself and not just in others. To any twos out there, therapy, slowing down, true introspection and exercising self-worth has helped me become aware of what I want and exercising communicating those needs with my friends and family has helped me build stronger, healthier relationships. Still a work in progress, though.
I really really love to host, you got that way too right. I always shoo people away to clean up and when I go to someone else's party I always help clean up.
I always have this issue and I wonder if other twos have it. I'm always up for helping people and I'm always there. Sometimes, though, I do get worn out and tend to isolate to "recharge energies" and then go back to being 110% there for others... I wonder how you guys deal with this...?
I am always motivated by feeling loved and appreciated.
I literally watch all videos of all types because I wanna help others.
I would add something that I don't know if it happens to every type 2 but it happens to me.
I have this negative tendency to obsess over criticism of others when I can't be the person they want (or need) me to be for them. Especially if they are someone I truly care for.
I also tend to "buy affection"... Instead of recognising and voicing my needs I tend to be extra nice and extra good or helpful to someone when I'm in need of their love and/or affection

I've known about enneagram at least ten years and I've only just identified myself as a TWO! That's why twos don't watch the videos so much, they don't recognise themselves or the term helper, it's buried so deep it just feels normal, as if it's the way everybody is and goes about life!
And it's not about running around baking cakes for people, it's a deeply rooted philosophy on life. It explains such a lot in my life, including over committing to work. I'm a PA. Thank you for your work, love the style of your videos and the decor ❤
    PS I've previously thought I'm a 7, 4, 8, or 9.

Yes! This is extremely accurate! Type 2 here 💙 Indeed, loads of people think that they're my best friend! It's nice , but sometimes, I don't always feel that way aswell. I often just want to relax and spend some time by myself, something that is difficult when you have so many 'best friends'.
I don't know whether to laugh or to cry about how accurate it is that I am not very in tune to my feelings 😂😭 Whenever someone asks me "how are you doing?" Or "What can I do to help?" I always answer 'I'm fine, no worries!'. Nine out of ten times, I could really use some help at that moment.
As a type 2, I do indeed love jobs that help others! I've already planned to join a charity after Covid is over and things go back to normal. Also, my dream job is a psychologist!
Indeed, I rarely watch videos about my own type! Funnily enough, I love watching your videos about myself, but rarely anyone else's videos 😂 These are just the best 👍 Thanks!

Yes I have a lot of friends from all walks of life. The more we share, the closer I feel to them. I did more helping when I was younger, with less health issues. I have been a realtor, legal secretary, bookkeeper, insurance billing clerk, volunteer tutor, teacher, singer, receptionist, and assistant to the Controller and business manager at a law office, worked in jewelry and shoes at a store, was also a runner. So I did have jobs to help others. I have always had pets I loved and took care of. I have 5 dogs now. I wouldn't say I act on feelings or emotions first. I am a 2 with 1 wing. I would say I am empathetic because I can feel what other people are feeling. I think first. Sometimes I avoid going places that will be difficult for me based on the people there. As always, I enjoyed this video. Thank you for sharing!

Hi, Hillary ! Hope you're doing well ! I am a type 2 and I have watched some of your videos ..pretty spot on . To answer your question, I am a cashier at a grocery store. I love meeting new people even though my social anxiety is high at times. It can be exhausted because I do feel like I'm tuned into other people. If I see other people cry it makes me want to cry. Love to plan parties and want all the details to be thoughtful and well planned . I usually ask my co-workers if they've had enough water to drink that day or something like that and ask about their family. Today I offered to go get a jacket for my coworker because I saw she was shivering and I was on my way to the break room. She kind of laughed and I felt rather silly but I could tell she appreciated me asking. I am a people-pleaser and have a hard time saying no oh, but I've made progress with boundaries and self-care. I don't necessarily feel like people gravitate towards me per say ...but I definitely come across as approachable and friendly and my co coworkers confide in me . I have like three close friends and a lot of acquaintances. Anyhow , I enjoy your videos . Thank you !

I also prefer to watch videos not about my type, but that’s because I know myself very well, and I don’t need the review as much, and must learn more about everyone else. Lastly, one of my favorite things to do is help others and do things for them.
I know that I am in a good place when I am able to give people surprises, like baking something, or an unexpected birthday present or I’ll treat someone to dinner.

In my case I am very fiery and I can be confrontational if I don't like someone or feel like they or their values are not in harmony with mine, I won't show them loving kindness, just cordiality...it was much worse at 17 when I would HATE every second I was with my family or get triggered by a comment someone made. I'm sure as you get older you will have a more distinct personality come through. But in the meantime ask yourself: Do I love making people feel welcomed, loved, at home and free to talk about their problems? Do I feel like I have a burning desire to help even strangers when I see someone needs help? Do I do kind deeds for others even though they don't need it, hoping that it will make them see my value and shower me with praise? Am I hurt and upset when I see people treat others with inconsoderation and unkindness? Do you go through ridiculous leaps and bounds to follow through for someone even though it's at a great inconvenience to you, meanwhile the person doesn't know at all?
If you answer yes to these or most of them then you're probably a 2. Just know that you can display traits of more than one type. Personally I identify with type #8 as well, the challenger...due to my strong justice complex and my belief in karma haha.

If I can add a comment regarding your 10th point. I'm a 2w1. I agree mostly with these, not every one applies truly to me, but for the most part yes. Your 10th point about 2s not watching videos about themselves and your reasoning about us watching other types to learn how to help others, while there is truth to that, for me I don't watch videos about my number so much is because of the criticism piece. If I watch too many 2 videos, I start to get down on myself and feel criticized...we hate criticism. I'm probably not a very healthy 2...but that's why I don't watch them. Thanks for your videos...I do enjoy them and learn a lot from them.

I’m more set in stone about being a 2w1 with 296 trifix by this video, much thanks! In my own opinion, most 2w1s will be Fe users since they feel the need to put others before themselves and not realize their own emotional needs (and they’re the ones who are most in tune to their environment and others emotions). Maybe Si as well since they have good attention to details and the past, often bringing it up and showing how good of a mind they have. I mainly see xSFx’s with either 2w1/2w3 or 2 in their trifix. Would love to know your views on cognitives and enneagram correlations!

Type 2w3 so/sx here! Thank you so much Hillary for all of your videos.. they've been so super helpful (especially because for a little bit I was wondering if I was a 3).
I agree with ALL of these!
    1. A lot of people do think I am their best friend, but often times I can't reciprocate those feelings. (This was why I was like... am I being deceitful? Who really am I?)
    2. You wish people were as attuned to your needs as you are to theirs -- totally feel this. And I wish I didn't have to say it; I wish people just KNEW
    3. I also agree with the fact that sometimes I don't know what I need... even when I may need some help or a hug.

    @jonathanterol4528 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Thanks for making this video, maybe you can help me, because I’m new to this and understand very little about the Enneagram.
So, I recently did the test and got type 2 as result, I will go through the signs and tell you what I think.
Sign 1; You make decisions based on feelings
Implying; when deciding, rather that it’s based on feeling if it’s right to do than if it makes logical sense.
I disagree, because I deem most of my decisions to have reasoning behind them, despite if it doesn’t make sense to others. I’m thinking more about split second decisions, being based on feelings, it’s wonderful to have intuition for that and yeah logic can’t help, because in that case there’s no time to make sense.
Sign 2; You are tuned in to people’s feelings
Implying: Capability to sense the feelings of others, reading the room, knowing people’s wants and needs.
This is a good one, I don’t know whether it’s something I like to believe I have, less so if I want that. I do feel empathy for others, and it’s very hard for me to not consider where they at emotionally, before I tell them something, but there are many examples and different types of scenarios. I don’t think I always proceed with caution.
Sign 3; Everyone thinks you’re their best friends
Implying: People gravitate towards you or like to be around you, because good listening skills and remembering the details of their life circumstances.
Yes, I do feel like this is true with certain individuals, however if people are like that towards me, I often feel reluctant to acknowledge them as a friend, wouldn’t certainly deem them; my best friends, because some of them default into overdependency and asking too much. I like to stay away from people who make a habit out of asking for things that they can easily help themselves with.
Sign 4; You are the first one to respond to a crises
Implying: Not faced or scared to help in a crises situation and be the first in line to step in
Yes, there are numerous times when I did this, lots of where I was the only one to respond, but if others would step in first, I really don’t mind. In such situations, it can be quite compelling for me to make impulsive decisions, they were usually right, but I definitely made mistakes and hate myself for it. So I don’t want others to stand back, but always help, but they don’t have to be the first to respond.
Sign 5; You wish people were in tune to your needs as you are with theirs
Implying: otherwise feel like being taken advantage of
Yes and it’s true sometimes I don’t really know what I need or want, however some people do take advantage of me and I don’t want that. So at a certain point when this is going on for a while and I feel I’ve been “pushed” too much, I tend to break contact. I do voice my wants and needs when I feel like the person can really help me with it or out of sheer curiosity to see what they do with that information. It’s independent of people offering to help me. Some people are just scummy; they’re looking for a corner to push me in, I try to avoid that. I’m usually right about a person, but if it turns out I was wrong, then I don’t really care, better safe than sorry.
Sign 6; You love to host
Implying: Love to have people come over and care for them; cooking the meal and providing fun
True, and yes I don’t want my guests to help me, because I have my own way of doing things in the home. I usually clean up after the guests have left or if they stay the night then clean the next day.
Sign 7; You don’t know how to say no
Implying: Always helping even when self-detrimental
Disagree, I do say “no” when people ask for help, when 1) I can’t help, 2) feel like or find out, they can do it themselves, 3) to see how they would react, 4) it’s to my own self-detriment. You got to have self-respect. I feel like in this world I don’t owe anybody anything, so that giving to people is truly something of myself. When people give something to me out of their own free will and they regret it later on, then I don’t feel guilty about it.
Sign 8; Your job is in a helping field
Implying: generally taking the role in helping people
Sorry, this is too general, but to answer you; I didn’t nor do I have any of the jobs listed.
Sign 9; Your biggest motivator is feeling loved and appreciated
Implying: it motivates when helping others
This is obvious, but I think it applies to everyone sometimes.
Sign 10; You don’t normally watch videos about your type
Implying: Not having as much the need to learn about oneself, but rather learning about other people
I disagree, I like learning about both. I’m totally new to the Enneagram personality type system. And I’m checking if the signs you’ve presented in this video are fitting my personality. I’m having a hard time assessing whether this is true, but more importantly if knowing my Enneagram type is useful in understanding myself. So far, I understand little about this.

Thank you 🙏 😊

I have taken the monetary tests where it obvs. is not free, the free tests etc... and always get Type 2. You asked about how we feel about people being our best friends. Unfortunately I have not felt that way, I only have one best friend, I used to have many but we've just moved apart in many ways. I just saw a medium she is famous so I won't say who she is but she got me 100%, she said "you are always the social worker for your friends and then they don't have time for you", sad but true. I think because I am so giving I found out, people take advantage plus I have a degree in psychology so that makes a lot more people want to talk only about themselves.

You have my Wing 6 and my unhealthy 7 tied up on the train tracks. Trust me, you'll be doing me a favor. Yeah, don't worry, Peter! You're going to get a rare look at how a train operates from underneath while it is in motion! You remember your grandfather ran a train, right? You love it!
My archnemesis. The waves of emotions eternally crashing on the rocks of logic. Ugh.
I have seen a few 2s and 5s work out in life and in most cases, it is the 5 merely weathering the storm of a 2 in hopes the squall will eventually die down enough that a logical scenario can form. It can take up to three millennia for it to happen, of course, but who is checking on time.
    _constantly checks watch_
Please, please, please... Just... One second without radiating your emotions...
Of course, after hearing all the things you said, you described my housemate to a t. She is a teacher, she wants to help everyone, she is a supercharged goal achiever, she hates having people do things for her _(trust me, when I feed the cat in the morning she always feels like she is on the hook for something - which she isn't)_ She is a big-hearted person, but she will often set her own traps with expectations. If there is one number that expects everyone else to be like them, it is a 2.
*_"Enough about me, please. Let's talk more about me."_*
Yeah, you go twirl your well-kept mustache somewhere else, Feelinator. I guess I gotta save my Wing 6 and my Unhealthy 7 from your mind taking.

That hurt stays deep within me and I don’t know if I will ever have that close relationship with the person that hurt me. So it’s like a 1 foot in 1 foot out situation for me. I get mad when I see people taking advantage of my 2 friends inability to say no....I will admit long ago I would do this to my mother-in-law. We only saw then once a year and a number of times I would ask if I could do some laundry, knowing full well if I asked she would volunteer to do them for me. I realized this was not good so my new strategy is to just go ahead and start the laundry and then tell her. "I was sure you wouldn't mind so I just went ahead and started some laundry". Sigh...so glad I have more sense than I used to. One particular friend her husband and child both take advantage of her until she ends up sick and in the hospital. I tell her all the time she needs more rest and needs to tell them "no" . But, she doesn't listen. With the Best Friend thing....hey, I'm a 7, I collect things...including best friends..lol. And I really do feel like each one of them is my best friend. For years I had my inner circle. I thought it was kind of like Jesus having "Peter, James and John. And now when so many people seem to be tightening their circle, I'm expnding mine, there are now 6 in the inner circle that now have the title "Best" Maybe it's because 2 is so far from 7 but I really didn't see much that I could identify with.

Peoples life pain/issues continually flash in my mind. I think about everyone I know thats in distress. Otherwise most people are very comfortable near me… but the non deep thinkers often just think I am weird. I scored as a 4 though. And I often decide things not by my heart as much as what makes the most sense. I am very in tune with my own needs as my body is sensitive. I have a hard time saying no, and overload myself. This sounds like the equivalent of INFJ MBTI type. I have a few INFJ acquaintances and they sound totally like type 2.
Side note.. noticed the video has your location as Chandler. I'm in AZ all week and visited Chandler yesterday. Such a beautiful city!

Thank you for putting a positive spin on type 2. I went to a workshop about the different types and it was a negative feel towards type 2's. It left ne with a bad taste in my mouth.

♥️ Thank you for sharing so I can learn more about my type even though it is true that I have spent more time learning about other types to try to understand and help others ♥️
