    At the age of 74 and having lived with Type 1 Diabetes for 67 years, I agree wholeheartidly with all your 5 comments. My advice in general is stick by the "rules" as best as you can. My diabetes has never come against me and I have had a full and varied career. Wishing you a healthy and happy future.

    As someone who became a nurse in the 1970s I can't tell you how happy it makes me to see how medical advances during the last fifty years have made it easier for people living with T1D to enjoy longer and healthier lives.

    Hey Michelle. I’ve comment here and there. This year 2023 is my 56th year with Type1. So many changes since I was diagnosed. When I was first diagnosed in the late 1960’s there were no insulin pumps,no CGMs, no disposable needles. I took beef/pork insulin. My mom boiled my needles and had to sharpen them. They were big needles. Thankfully disposables came along not too far after my diagnosis. There were at home urine tests that were not very accurate. No such thing as at home blood sugar tests. So I am thankful for so many better ways to take care of myself. Diabetes burnout is for sure a thing. For me, the longer I’ve had it the more I’m tired of it. I’m just being honest. Very lucky to not have a ton of complications. I do have gastroparesis. My eyes and kidneys are great. I could go on but I’ll stop. I love your channel and it’s nice hearing about your days diabetes wise and just every day stuff. Take care!

    Lovely to see you looking well and sounding positive. As a parent your videos have been so helpful for me over our first 2 years (diagnosed 13yrs of age following covid infection) to consider how my daughter is coping with everything from her perspective. Striving to get her technology to enable her to be as independent as she can be. She now has a libre2 and tandem tslim x2. On a waiting list for dexcom. She's just back from a school trip to Italy & I couldn't be more proud of her. Determined not to let her be defined by T1d but acknowledge the slog of everyday life and burnout. Thank you & take care

    Thank you for this Michelle. Your videos were the first I watched upon my diagnosis nine months ago and I have learned SO much. Initially, I thought if I worked at this hard enough I could always have perfect blood glucose numbers ( the former straight A student mindset I guess). But as you have gracefully pointed out, despite our best efforts there are good days and bad days. That’s just how it goes and I am learning to accept that. Thank you again and welcome back. May 2023 bring you peace.

    You shared in this video, what I have been feeling this year, and you share it so eloquently.
    I was literally just talking to a T1D girlfriend the other day, about the ridiculous comments people say…
    I just take a deep breath and shake my head. Or if I have time, I correct them.
    However it works best for you, do it! It’s OK to ignore stupid comments. I’ve learned that too.

    Glad this video popped up. Congratulations on earning your doctorate!
    I have watched the prior videos as part of educating myself on real people’s experiences with their chosen insulin delivery system. The time is getting closer to choosing a new system. I have searched for content of users going from Tandem to Medtronic, and can only find Medtronic defectors!
    I have Medtronic and Dexcom. It’s so familiar yet after decades, it’s a new century, and I’m ready for something completely different to change things up and creat a fresh start with Control IQ. Always apprehensive starting something brand new, but like everything else, going from beginner to reasonably competent is a well worn path.
    Im still looking for a video from someone who changed from Medtronic to Tandem.

    I’m 30 and was diagnosed with type 1 at 27 after losing a bunch of weight, getting sick and going into DKA. One thing I’ll say about my experience is that injecting myself doesn’t bother me, managing my sugar is easy most of the time, checking my sugar doesn’t bother me. What I hate the most is the dependency on insulin to stray alive. I hate that my life depends on CVS to be open. Like imagine there’s ww3 or the supply chain fails. Not good. It’s this thing in the back of my mind that’s always there reminding me how dependent I am on the “System”

    Hi Michelle, nice to see you back! I love watching your videos, especially the one where you debated over switching from a pink Medtronic Paradigm to Tslim . . . I just switched to Tslim a few weeks ago (had to wait for my ADP renewal date to switch). I love seeing your videos and feel a slight kinship with you as we both got married in Toronto in late March 2019, and had our daughters shortly thereafter. I am probably a little more relaxed in my overall approach to T1D, but I love seeing your videos as they show me that I am not alone living with this. I love how fun your fashion with a pump video was. -- Have you found the book "Mommy beeps"? It's a book written for kids with a T1D loved one [mom in the book uses an insulin pump], and helps explain why mommy can't share her snacks/candies sometime, etc. . . .My daughter is almost old enough to understand it, so I look forward to reading it with her.

      Thanks so much Amanda❤️! It's amazing how much we have in common :). I've heard of "Mommy Beeps" but I haven't gotten it yet. I plan to when Eden is a bit older! I hope you are liking the t:slim so far and that everything is going well!

    • @amandam.509
      @amandam.509 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SheldonT. I like Tandem Tslim ... especially if you have Dexcom G6 (and can use control IQ). . . Control IQ makes it a lot easier in adjusting insulin in micro doses (but doesn't do big corrections -- like when you underbolus for food) and keeps BG a lot more streamlined. The cartridges are a pain to fill, but it gets easier with time. I found a tool on Etsy by Molten 3d that aligns the syringe with the white insertion spot on the cartridge and makes that part 100 x easier (Molten3D is in Canada, so shipping is good for Canadians) -- the tool is helpful for anyone, but especially for people who might have dexterity or vision issues. I've found the black case/clip that comes with the pump to be okay, but I also got a pink official replacement, and the clip falls off the case easily of the pink replacement [others have mentioned the faulty cases, too]. I've ordered a custom-printed case from EDC solutions and I'm waiting to see it as it was custom made in Texas -- might be fun for your kid to have a custom case, and I recommend you check out their gallery of custom made cases -- makes getting a new pump way more fun. I think EDC also makes cases for other insulin pump models, too.
