I love scrappy quilts and this quilt is just what I need to make to use up some of my scraps. Thanks for sharing! I love the erasable pen idea. The name scrum quilt is just the BEST! Love it! 😊
Hey Tracey! I enjoy sewing scrappy blocks when I just want to mindlessly sew something. I have random block sizes that I can add to or slice and combine. I just don’t want to match corners etc. Maybe I’ll throw in some trials of leftover flying geese & half square triangles! Your wide sashing and squaring…. Brilliant to get it done! So many great ideas jammed into one video! Thanks!
I love this quilt top! My granny was a quilter and I have a few that she made. I even have a light weight quilt that her mother (my great grandmother) had pieced the top together and my granny and my aunt finished off for me. I absolutely love each quilt but, there is one that she gifted me one Christmas that my grandpa pieced (a simple top of 4" squares), my granny and aunt layered and I helped tie tac the squares. Then my granny & aunt finished. Everyone who worked on that quilt has since passed away...well, except for me of course. 💕💕💕
Wonky piano key border would be super on this on.... like the added top, but all the way around. I LOVE the wildness of the assembly ))))) Fussy? CAn't even spell that. hahahaha. Whack-a-do can be gorgeous!! We're sisters for sure )))
I love your tip of numbering all the blocks with a heat pen. I usually pin a numbered paper to each block but they get in the way! I love how your quilt turned out! Your guest is precious!
I switched to small round stickers. They work great and stay on well enough to sew. You can write on them. Just don’t stick them in the seam allowance. They can be difficult to remove if sewn.
I like the top/bottom borders you added. But then it made me wish there were similar strips on all border edges of it. For me ... maybe I could create random leaf shapes and raw-edge applique them on top of each block so that they would become frayed and fuzzy on the outside of each leaf, helping sell my mental image that these are abstract flowers. I just adore things to be covered in flowers!
I was going to add on the side borders....but since I added the side 1/2 blocks I thought it could get a bit busy🤷🏻♀ I LOVE your idea of random leaf shapes with raw edge applique💛✅
Your granddaughter is so precious. I love all your videos and can usually follow your instructions easily. However this one really confused me in the cutting. But we all process differently so I know it's my brain. 🤪 Thanks for all you do.

Oh man! You know I love something cool like this. Plus you are going to make me wait for part two!!!! Uggg I will try.....⏰......still trying...... LoL 😂 Loved the scrums!
Yay!!! Somehow I knew you would like this one Glenda!!!....There will always be crumbs and scraps hanging around....lots of time to make a scrumb quilt!!!✅
My favorite kind of block making but never thought to add a few larger pieces of fabric to the square. This really balances the block. I am in heaven going to try this idea. Looking forward to finding the second one good thing it is very early in morning thanks
Hey Tracy! Just learned recently that cotton thread and natural cotton fabric crumbs that are too small to use in sewing projects can be used in compost bins and piles! As long as there isn't any chemicals like fabric softener or spray starch on the fabric, the very small pieces can then be added to compost bins. Same for 100% cotton batting (without scrim) pieces that are too small to use for anything. The other day I was getting ready to dump a whole waste basket of worthless cotton pieces and selvage trimmings into my trash can when I came upon this recycling idea. So from this point forward, I'll be doing a quick rinsing out my quilting bits before tossing them into my compost material. Hope you're having a sew very fine weekend! Dori
I'm not a huge fan of white, myself, but I do like the idea of surrounding the busy crumbled centers with a calming outer fabric that reads as a solid.
ME organized!!!!⬅ NO WAY! lol😂 I was on a mission with a vision with this quilt (plus I edit very well LOL 😂) And yes you can totally pull this off!!!💛

Great idea for using random bits of fabric! I make a "pillowcase" big enough to fit into a 5 gallon bucket & put all the to-small-to-use pieces (plus batting scraps, threads, holey socks etc) in it. When it's full, I stitch the opening closed & donate it to an animal shelter.
Your quilt top is gorgeous, but your granddaughter stole the show. She said, "I hope you all were paying attention, because my grandma really knows how to quilt!"😃

Your little Josie speaks!!!! How sweet! Yes, I heard the same thing as your translation, Tracy. Clear as day! ❤️ Yes, she's getting to be a big girl. Time flies! I remember when my kids were toddlers, I was happy when they got old enough to feed themselves, then was very happy when their diaper days were over, and was so happy with each milestone my kids reached. Yet at the same time, I was sad that my little ones were babes no longer. As for your quilt, very cool designed quilt blocks! Oh I know...with my 4 kids I enjoyed all of the milestones as well...especially when I no longer had to buy diapers LOL😂 Having a grandbaby is on a whole new level...❤️❤️❤️ Happy Mother's day to you too Dori🌸🦋
Love your quilt. But I got confused with getting them into a square shape. Will be thinking on this for days. Quilt is wonderful with the bright cheerful colors. Thanks for this tutorial. I love your quilt.
Love your videos. An idea for another video is how to put together the “stations” and tables to organize your sewing space. I know I could use some help with that!!
I am not wild about the color white (because white does not stay white over time). However any light solid color would work as the background (I like light pink). With so much white space between the scrumb blocks, there needs to be a lot of very interesting quilting. Your top is interesting. Your grand-daughter is beautiful and so cute. I'll be waiting to see what you do next. I have many 8 1/2 inch square scrumb blocks already made that I need a setting for.
Arvetta...a light color solid background would be great.✅..I had thought of doing a Scrumb low volume background....but since I was going to be free motion quilting I decided to go "plain"....Setting the wonky blocks in the orientation I wanted was probably the trickiest part of this quilt🤷🏻♀️
The way you made this block makes perfect sense to me. But I see some people are having trouble understanding the sashing. For them, I would recommend using a large square ruler (if you have one) to size/trim your blocks after the first white border is added. That will help you visualize the end goal and see what needs to be filled in. If you don't have a ruler in the size/shape you want the finished block to be, try making a large square "stencil" cut out, maybe from a big piece of poster board, in your desired finished block size. Again, that will help your eyes see just what falls inside your desired block. You can audition various orientations of the scrumb center. You could even use your Frixion pen to draw around your chosen design, along the stencil edges, then just follow the lines for trimming up with no measuring needed.
I love seeing variations on the scrappy/crumb theme! Ways to give it guidance without giving it a particular pattern, so that we're free to riff on the ideas are the BEST! TYSM!
I love this idea it is an easy way to use up some blocks that you might not use otherwise. You can use any background color to your liking. It would work for those left over blocks you have from other quilts also. Thanks for the idea I love it.
Oh my goodness that grand baby is so precious. I love the quilt Tracy. You are just a bundle of talent. God bless and keep you from Texas. Happy Mothers Day 2022!
I absolutely love how it turned out and I love the scrum blocks. However, the process of squaring up the blocks with the white strips was confusing for me. I’m just not used to making free form quilts yet.

I absolutely love how it turned out and I love the scrum blocks. However, the process of squaring up the blocks with the white strips
was confusing for me. I’m just not used to making free form quilts yet.
Thank you Imogene💛 I know putting them on point was confusing…. Try watching it with no volume and may you will catch the “jist “ of it✅
It's beautiful!
Thank you so much Veronica💛
I love your quilt!!
Thank you so much💛
This is a great idea!!!
