The original Pyscho Soldiers will always hold a special place in my heart as one of those unforgettable childhood fuzzy memories. In 1988, back when I was 7, my family did their annual visit to a podunk northern Nevada town called Wells to visit other family. There's a truck stop and restaurant called the 4-Way Cafe (still there to this day) that would always have a bunch of arcade games. One and only time I've ever seen and played the cab in person. I had no idea what it was at the time, just that it was "that cool game that talked" with fuzzy memories since then. Got to play it twice before my parents whisked me away. Re-discovered it in MAME in 1998 when I got hard into emulation and started getting into NeoGeo (aka that one cool red cabinet with that Samurai fighting game and the one with a blue and purple cowboy that shrunk when fighting skulls with spoons). The rest is history.

I forget the name of the restaurant as its changed at least five times over the years, but the building is still there and is now an Asian buffet. Also had Rastan and a few other classics.

I have a real soft spot for this game, and it’s theme. It may be a SonSon ripoff, but Psycho Soldier was THE first arcade game with a complete digitized theme song… lyrics and all. Journey’s arcade game doesn’t count as it was literally a cassette on loop. I cannot overstate the impact it had on me. Imagine walking past an arcade game as a 6 or 7 year old in the 80s and BAM! Suddenly it starts singing to you… yeah it was like that for me. I was was instantly enthralled. XD

I noticed the whole "Psycho Solider on X68000" thing, and I do have something to say about it. I made it up, I used to have a account on Twitter talk about Athena Asamiya, and I made a few jokes tweet on that. One being Clark Still planned to be the Player 2 character in Psycho Solider instead of Kensou, Athena was supposed to appear in Metal Slug... etc. So the whole "Cancelled Psycho Solider X68000 game" is just a big joke, that theme is just originally arranged by the people who make "Jotei Senki 3", it has nothing to do with SNK. To answer to the description, right now I'm addicted to '94 (Arranged Version) but idk if I like it better than Ultimate (Japanese Version). They are both pretty different with their styles, so that's probably why I can't choose one, but I'll say for now that they both are my favorites.

DID YOU KNOW: The title of the series, "Psycho Soldier" is a pun. Athena and Kensou use "Psycho Power", which is short for Psychokinetic (not the Psycho Power that Capcom dictator M. Bison uses), and "Saiko" is Japanese for "The Best", which is pronounced how we say "Psycho". I'm surprised that the game didn't get retitled intentionally, as most English speakers would picture a game more like Ikari Warriors, a deranged combatant slaughtering everything in sight, LOL. (Although, since SNK is reviving old series, they should do revivals of Psycho Soldier and Ikari Warriors!)
I was watching AVGN's video on the C64 and I was surprised to see Psycho Soldier, just to not boot at all, but never knew those micro computers had ports of the game, I think they are still like too obscure to many out there.

Athena is the only character that got a redesign in each KOF iteration. And each year, they used a different voice actress. Not sure how it is now, but that was certainly the case in the 90's.

I made it up, I used to have a account on Twitter talk about Athena Asamiya, and I made a few jokes tweet on that. One being Clark Still planned to be the Player 2 character in Psycho Solider instead of Kensou, Athena was supposed to appear in Metal Slug... etc.
So the whole "Cancelled Psycho Solider X68000 game" is just a big joke, that theme is just originally arranged by the people who make "Jotei Senki 3", it has nothing to do with SNK. I meant it to be a joke and I'm kinda surprised how people actually take it seriously, I'm sorry to spend misinformation...

To answer to the description, right now I'm addicted to '94 (Arranged Version) but idk if I like it better than Ultimate (Japanese Version). They are both pretty different with their styles, so that's probably why I can't choose one, but I'll say for now that they both are my favorites.

The cassette version is my favourite. It always makes me feel 80-90's and also has decent sound quality.
Fun fact: The King of Fighters tournament was originally sponsored by Geese Howard in South Town. The 1st Fatal Fury game, subtitled the King of Fighters, was KOF'91. The Fatal Fury games stopped being KOF since "Fatal Fury 3: Road to Victory".
The KOF94 version has the stage intro with the door and gong sound. The arranged version was guitar rockin' good.

DID YOU KNOW: The title of the series, "Psycho Soldier" is a pun.
Athena and Kensou use "Psycho Power", which is short for Psychokinetic (not the Psycho Power that Capcom dictator M. Bison uses), and "Saiko" is Japanese for "The Best", which is pronounced how we say "Psycho".
I'm surprised that the game didn't get retitled intentionally, as most English speakers would picture a game more like Ikari Warriors, a deranged combatant slaughtering everything in sight, LOL.
(Although, since SNK is reviving old series, they should do revivals of Psycho Soldier and Ikari Warriors!)

I was watching AVGN's video on the C64 and I was surprised to see Psycho Soldier, just to not boot at all, but never knew those micro computers had ports of the game, I think they are still like too obscure to many out there.
I decided not to include the PC Ports of the theme because they're not too major to the history of this song.
Honestly I LIKE the English version. I really don't think it deserves such slander.

I wish there was a SF4/MvC3 era SNK vs Capcom sequel. I imagine that Psycho Soldier theme would have been most like Sky Stage and the one after that if it was in a CvS3 SvC3 or 4 with 3d graphics.
We need a new good quality Capcom crossover fighter! Capcom vs SNK vs Marvel vs Tatsunoko vs Shonen Jump vs Namco Bandai vs Sega vs Square Enix. Or just Capcom vs The World (has to have Dio in it as the end boss).

Anyway, the closest you're going to get when it comes to listening to the full version of the Psycho Soldier theme in Samurai Shodown RPG is a video by NintendoComplete titled "Samurai Shodown RPG (Neo Geo CD) Playthrough [2 of 2, English]" Around 8 hours and 37 minutes in, you'll find it.

Athena is the only character that got a redesign in each KOF iteration. And each year, they used a different voice actress. Not sure how it is now, but that was certainly the case in the 90's.
