      Good luck on the bike search man. Looking forward to seeing you out there!

    This is immensely helpful for planning. I was unsure of how much the SV would eat tires. Knowing 1-2 sets for a less aggressive rider for a season is fantastic knowledge to have. I hope to post some videos similar to your on track content in the future. You're giving me a fantastic pattern to mimic and build from.

      Looking forward to watching your experience in the future. I enjoy watching what other people are doing and trying to learn from it--since I'm not really sure what I'm supposed to be doing myself, hah.

    I can tell you from experience even at BFR a steering stabilizer is a good thing to have. Ask the plate and screws in my thumb, lol. This is a great breakdown man, looking forward to seeing you at blackhawk man, if you ever need anything let me know (have lots of SV parts still, lol).

      Thanks man. Watching videos of Pitt just freaked me out enough to get a stabilizer and I'm glad I have it. Ugh, sorry to hear about the plate and screws... Nothing about that sounds fun at all.
      Looking forward to seeing you as well out at Blackhawk. It's such a different beast and there are some parts of it I just don't understand how to be quick at yet despite having far more laps there than anywhere else.
      I'll see you in June!

    Thanks for making this video! It has helped me with what to expect. I have hopes of trying racing in the next few years. The 419 Racing guys are awesome!! I have bought two of their SV race bikes. Definitely not doing them any justice with my skills. This off season I need to work on my fitness a lot.

      @matttriestodothings  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      For sure Joe. That's awesome you're considering giving it a go soon. I'll have to do some research on 419--didn't even know it was a team. I just watched the STG video about their AIM mount and was convinced to give it a go. The thing is a better solution than any other I've seen by far.
      Don't worry about doing justice to the bikes. The vast majority of us aren't and never will. I'm one of them. The thing about racing vs track days that surprised me was how much it turned into a "me vs me" as opposed to "me vs. the field". After that first few turns, it's settled into single file for the most part and then it's working on improving over the last time I was out there by trying to hang onto the next guy and learning something from them.
      I've got the same thing with my fitness for this offseason. If you've got any specific questions, let me know. I'm not well-versed in the 2nd gen SV's (which I assume yours is), but general stuff I may have answers or know where to point you. I see from your page you've run Mid Ohio--that's one I'm hoping to add next year and hopefully make it my first race with WERA. Looking forward to seeing you out there 2025 or 2026 or whenever you decide to give it a go!

      @@matttriestodothings We do Mid Ohio several times a year. We generally make our trackday schedule for the year in February. We should hook up at Mid Ohio next year, we generally rent 2 garages and would always make room for another!
      The 419 guys are great! Damn fast too!! Jerry has raced with MotoAmerica a few times, and he cleans up at Vintage Days at Mid Ohio. Mostly they run WERA endurance events if I understand correctly. He and John have helped me tremendously! They also make a GoPro mount that we use, but you will have to contact them as it’s not on their website. It’s very much like the solo mount.
      Yeah both mine are 2nd gens. Various state of builds to them. My fitness has slacked off bad the last year with starting a new job. I honestly feel like it’s holding me back a lot. The goal is to get my core strength back and drop a solid 40lbs by May next year. Should be obtainable with some dedication.
      I’m located 30 minutes south of Indianapolis, so if you ever need or want an extra set of hands at the track, I would be happy to come lend a hand!

      That's awesome--I'm eyeing up Vintage Days for 2025, but we'll see. It sounds like a riot. I'll be waiting to put my schedule together as well and do it sometime in the winter as well after the schedules have been released. There is only so many times I'm willing to drive through Chicago in a given year, and I want to get out to PittRace again. It's just my absolute favorite that I've been to. I'd say there's a good chance we'll be bumping into each other at one of these tracks in the upcoming years. If it's at one of them I've never been to and you have, you'll have to show me how to get around.
      40lb is a lofty goal, but even 10-20 is going to have you feeling way better out on track. What do they say... 10lb is worth 1HP? Well 1HP might not be worth much on an R1, but on an SV like ours? That's not a negligible difference!

    i run a lot more classes and my tow setup is a lot bigger and thirstier. i estimate the "away" races (pitt, roebling, ncbike, etc) to be 2k a weekend. the close ones (njmp, summit) I estimate around 1500 for a weekend. just because i always break something or lose a gopro or something.
    you didnt count the engine you're redoing

    • @matttriestodothings
      @matttriestodothings  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Like when I saw you mowing the lawn at Pitt because your clipon fell off in T13? hah
      Being so close to Blackhawk brings my costs down pretty substantially compared to other places. $185 vs $260 for the practice day alone plus very little fuel for me to get there. I'd say your estimates sound pretty inline with mine if I added one or two more classes. My Pitt weekends are definitely closer to $1500+. And I'll likely run an extra class there to make the journey more worth it.
      True I didn't count the engine. I'm not sure what it's going to cost in total to refresh/rebuild it. The replacement I got was $100 though. If I find out it runs strong... may not be in a hurry to rebuild the other one.

    the td crowd has a shittier experience for the same or even more money
    specifically because of multiple classes on track at the same time

    • @matttriestodothings
      @matttriestodothings  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I see way sketchier and dangerous dumb shit at track days. It's the multiple classes and and usually 1-2 egos that cause issues. I just start in the "relaxed" lane now so I generally don't have to worry about it.

      Hah, thanks man. I need to start hustling more before tires start becoming the limiting factor. Jealous of seeing how quick some of you lunatics are out there! Congrats on your 2023 season, and good luck in 2024.

    Sooo basically ur very weathly and can affors to blow a few grand a month thats crazy ill for sure never see a race track in my life

    • @matttriestodothings
      @matttriestodothings  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Depends how you look at it. It's not a few grand a month--it's about $1,100 a month after I own the bike and gear. My riding season is short, so I have 5 race weekends in a year.
      $1,100 per month is a hell of a lot less expensive than childcare per month, and I don't have kids. I also don't have a dog or a cat.
      It's also going to vary significantly depending on where in the world you are.
      I didn't want to sugar coat it. This is why a lot of people stop racing when they have kids. It's an expensive hobby. And kids are really expensive. So it prices people out.
      But it's not that much more money than doing track days if you're not competing for expert level championships.
