In relation to your opening sentence: My favourite part about being a middle aged skater is that my brain understands physics and concepts so much better now than it did when I was 17. I learn tricks astronomically faster. And know what tricks aren’t worth learning
Yeah no doubt, as much as it’s harder to warmup and skate at a more intense level it’s easier to take a step back and think about the logistics of what you’re trying.
This was so relatable. Alone behind some business or in a sketchy alley selfie cam'ing on my phone while talking to myself, baby stepping a new trick, on the verge of a mental breakdown, all while trying to stay in the zone so i don't have to repeat the process of getting to the point of commitment again. And im 37. Gotta love skateboarding.
Bro!! Nicely done sticking with it! I'm 42 and just trying to get back into skating. I haven't done it since I was 19. Shit is scary as hell and I've lost all balance 😂 Trying to get it back little by little
No shade to learning tricks at parks, I still try to all the time but I really like to be alone and not have to worry about taking turns and shit while I’m focusing on
Man! I feel you 💯 on this one ! This trick is way more dangerous on a curb than a ledge! I slept away and hit my arms kind of hard on a curb! But now at 46, ledge are high!😅 so I do them on low speed. You motivate me to doing one on a curb at « real » speed! Nice one by the way!👊
Wife wanted to get a setup so i came over for the link and seen you posted a new video! love to see you progressing! sometimes when shit gets boring maybe its time to push ourselves a bit. ive been having talks with my homies that have been feeling in a rut and im telling them progression is what they are missing! its fun working on new things, who knows you could learn somthing new and then boom your on fire again
Hell yeah thanks man! I get in ruts all the time especially if I’m skating at the same spots/parks too often. At some point you just gotta force yourself to break out and try something new.
Ive always sucked at nollie nose slides, I can do them on curb sized ledges but not consistently. This is a cool vid I need to go through the same learning process. I want to unlock nollie k grinds too, one of my favorite looking tricks.
You're almost 40 and you landed something you've never done before and that's fucking sick, dude!!! I know your not bullshitting or being a pussy, those mental blocks are hard to overcome "We're building a bridge, we're building a bridge of love and confidence over fear... there goes the bridge" 💀
Sick one! 🎉 I totally understand the PTSD on this trick. I slipped out once straight to my back and stopped trying years ago. Congrats on overcoming man. That was clean too 👏🏾
I always start the process of learning these and then get discouraged. This inspired me to keep at it! Sick video bro! I always watch your stuff and it always hypes me up to skate.
That was amazing man ❤! I have the same story with those as you except I haven’t done one yet lol. I’m recovering from an injury this past year but think I can start rolling my old ass around again soon lol and want to try those ❤
Just don’t lean back too much, when you lock in it feels like you naturally start getting behind your board but just remember to put more weight forwards. You got it!
@@dadboard yessir some weeks more consistently than others just depends. I started a grad program at UC Davis so I do most of my skating on campus (there’s actually a lot of spots there that a lot of people don’t know about!) Also a I saw an old vid you posted where you were skating with the homie James! Used to skate Rocklin park with that dude back in the day and went on a couple street seshes with him. He’s the homie good to see him still ripping too
Nollie noseslides didnt come easy for me either. And just kinda walked away from things that didnt come pretty quick too. Think this old 47 year old is gonna try to learn them too. Appreciate the hype!
sick. i never was very good at nollies. kinda relearning to skate from scratch after so much time off the board and trying to spend more time on basic fundamentals, and general strength and flexibility, to hopefully minimize risk of injury. i want to skate forever if i can.
So sick! I really like the talk through format. Mic seems to be still working well. When you went “ohhh child” reminded me of the Ryan Gallant part from TWS First Love.
@@dadboard he’s super underrated IMO. I really tried to mimic his style. So much so, I remember buying a pair of DC pants with the DC logo on the back pocket with my DC Josh Kalis kicks to skate in. Hahahaha. Really one of my favorite skaters from that era.
Need more videos like this love how stoked you get when you land the trick 🙌 💪 that's a trick I been wanting to learn aswell need to work on me nollies first tho you get way more pop in your noilles well bro keep it up
@dadboard Ah I know it takes a lot of time and effort also I'm the same go skate and hav so much tricks I want to work on but end up doing something different 🤣 always happens to me
I started in my mid 20s, like 25 years old, now im 31. Alot of things i used to just watch people and be like naaa thatd scrape my shin, or naaa there's no possible way i could nollie, are finally moving towards training nollies and other shit i thought wasnt even in realm of possibility, finally unlocking. Lately been training nollies to get them high and level, and will try a few of these nollie nose slides soon. this and nollie crook has always been tricks where im like yea noway i can even pop off the nose lmaoo
It always feels like you could never do it until one day it just starts working. Sometimes you gotta just wait for your turn. I have a bunch of stuff that I can do pretty comfortably now that I never thought I’d be able to. Just skate as much as you can and it’ll fall into place 👊
I'm in the same boat. Have done them but don't do them. I don't try because I usually ghost pop nollies when there's an obstacle in front. I can nollie just fine but not when I have to get up something. I should try it more.
I’ve been working on nollie nose stalls so this may be the next step for me. I’m scared for my ankle - it seems to want to roll on this one! Do you nollie off the tail or is your board symmetrical?
I like about talking about how u mentioned some of u guys may have it in the pocket from early on, but I don’t. Dude. Please. I’m 46. & skateboarding is weird. I’ve got a sic flat ground game. & I can do some grinds & slides alright. But manuals have always eluded me. Especially nose manuals. Please dad board. From one old skate dad to another, give us some insight / tutorial on nose manuals. U do them (& other tricks ) oh so well. Thanks homie
Shit man I’ve been doing them so long I don’t know if I have any good insight. I can only really explain tricks that I’m learning or just learned. I’ll consider it though, I’d have to really think about how I do them
That’s awesome! I have not skated in weeks! It is hotter than the devils ass crack in South Carolina but this is giving me hope dude! Also what is your current setup?
These used to be one of my favorite tricks. They always felt better than regular nose slides. Probably because all your weight is on your front foot already.
I felt like that last night ollying up a curb for the first time. A 7” tall curb as a matter of fact. And I originally went out to try heelflips, lol. Ended up doing ollies off and up a curb
Hell yeah man, that’s a W in my book 👊 & honestly, if you’re just starting to learn ollies up and off curbs just focus on that and basic fundamentals before you start stressing on flipping the board. Helps a lot to get comfy just riding and hopping around to develop style. Keep crushing it, man!
"Were building a bridge of love and confidence over fear" my dude you gotta speak on this mindset!
That's my mantra whenever I try to learn new tricks from now on
8:12 - when you unlock the trick and just need to hammer away at it, that's a feeling shared by all skateboarders!
“That fuckin sirens not helping” was too relatable 😂
The stoke is real!! Got me hyped to skate!

So true, you play smarter as get old. I would throw any trick on stairs if I'm not sure I master the trick on flat ground.
Those knees crackin at 6:48. Relatable AF!
PTSD is real brother, but Skateboarding is helping push past that barrier and damn does it feel good when you can get past it.
Man I know that feeling fck ya got it.
I appreciate your videos, man. I ordered a deck using the Tactics link. Great way to be able to support the channel.
@@CH-nz6ys thanks my dude! Really appreciate the support 🍻 👊
I bought SteelStik because of you. 😊

It’s terrifying because it’s mostly pop and trusting that your front foot makes it to where you need it too
Hell Yeah Dude
Dude this was amazing! Sick progression! Mad inspiring to go out and learn a new trick 🍻🤘🏼
Fuck yeah bro, so good to get something new! And totally feel the baby-stepping 🙌🏾 🔥
Big baby steppin. Learning anything new is super rejuvenating and motivating too.

So you know. Glad someone else gets it. Feels totally different than locking in off of an ollie/slappy
Oh hell yea🎉🎉🎉
Phil Collins would be stoked!

You can do them, man. Just find a similar spot that isn’t too slick and ease into it. Remember not to lean back too much 👊

This tricks a pain in the ass and I had the same exact problem with slipping back . Now I’m looking forward to trying nollie kgs
Same, I’ll probably try to learn those on a perfect skatepark ledge though. Seems like it’ll be much more enjoyable for that trick
That spot looks so tight🔥🔥 Douglas?

Nice content!! Love the spirit!! Is this uc davis by the way??
I always bonked my nose on the ledge trying that trick
Try to pop a little bit earlier. I bonked my foot on that one attempt that made me fall and that shit was scary.
I have same issues about crook grinds since I fell very hard
You can do them, man. Don’t give up
🙌

I found that same chocolate x HUF shirt at ross for 8 bucks. Couldn't pass it up.
im just learning slappy noselides :)
Fuck yeah, congrats! Such a good feeling trick
My War: Nollie Noseslide.
I go thru the same thing with nollie front noses. 😅
Nollie fs noseslide is wild. I wanna try one now 🤔
I know you can't really compare the two but which trucks do you prefer... Thunder trucks or Slappy?
Two very different experiences. Personally I’d go with Ace over slappy but that’s just me.
Anything off the nose is hard on my current oldschool shaped board
Yeah you just gotta get used to it or have a separate setup
Nollie nose slide is so sick. My nollie just isn’t there to get into slides
Just do like 30 of them on flat everytime you skate, you’ll get them
That was a nice one, Nellie crocks next week
New rap name: Nelly crocks
try not to think like tat 5:54 skate for pure enjoyment
Shout out to Phil Collins!
Norm Mac Donald
The one you landed looks like you do that all the time
Man thank you! Got so lucky with a decently clean one and not a Bambi leg rollaway 😅
