Jumbo Machinder Collector Tom Franck

- At an early age Tom Franck knew his toys would some day be more than play things. Becoming more selective, as the years went by, as far as what he collects, rarity soon became paramount throughout his collecting journey spanning decades, collecting primarily Jumbo Machinder. His extensive research along with journeys to Japan and due diligence would eventually
lead him to obtaining one of the most elusive toys on earth, that toy being a Jumbo Machinder, Garada K7. With only a handful known to exist in the world, Tom shares his story on how he obtained one. Tom also delves into the history of Jumbo Machinder, his encounter with Go Nagai, Jumbo Machinder forgeries and much more.

That’s powerful.
Quite Franckly, I wholeheartedly agree!
I remember playing with my buddy’s giant Great Mazinger after school while watching Tranzor Z on American tv.
Cool!
Love the approach of this episode. Focusing of the pure passion, knowledge and emotion of a collector. Those analogue footage are such precious treasure. So ahead of his time!
Thank you 🙏
I don´t collect this type of toys but man, it is always awesome to see someone´s passion being share with the world. What an amazing story and collection from this guy. Thank you for sharing this video with us, the toy lovers who will never grow up.
Thank you for your kind words and thank you for watching!
Ha… Here I am so proud I have all the Jumbo Shogun Warriors, and Star Wars ones, and the skeletor one. Tom Franck said , sit down son, and hold my beer… 😂🫡🫡😱🙇🏽
lol yes!
Another great video! Thanks everyone!
Thank you!
Ahhhhhh another older collector colleague!! 70’s Toy Era is UNSURPASSED for collectors… I would need *at least* 5 million to get the collection I truly want
Yes that era was quite amazing! Thank you for watching!
Lovely, moving video. Very sincere and well-produced.
Thank you very much!
Amazing and excellent episode! The vintage video of Tom in Japan is so cool !
Thank you Mark and thank you for your help in making this possible!
Couldn't even imagine toy hunting for Grails in Japan pre internet / pre smart phone / and not being fluent in Japanese 🤪
Glorious toys. I’m in awe of that collection. Tom is a bit of legend.
Thank you for watching!
Wonderful dive into the history with a storied collector!
Thank you for watching!
I could happily watch (and listen to) Tom talk about robots and toys ad infinitum.
Thats good to know! Stay tuned because part two with Tom Franck premiers on April 22nd at 5pm PT!
@@TheMagnificentWorldofToys Yay!
Amazing documentary. Sounds like me😂❤
lol thank you
What an amazing collector and collection! I would have loved to have met Mr. Nagai and to have gone to that Mr. Big toy store. But I was lucky to go to Forbidden Planet in New York which is amazing too.
That really looks like it was an amazing store! If it was this amazing during the 70s I can only imagine how amazing it might have been during the 80s!
I love my 11 inch tall Garada K7 sofubi figure I bought from Ebay several years ago. I too am a toy robot collector of several years.
Awesome!
From what I hear even those Garada K7s are pretty hard to come by!
@@TheMagnificentWorldofToys Yes I was quite lucky. After watching your video several years ago where you went to Japan to secure your K7 and paid a pretty penny for it, I thought wow! What a cool action figure. I want one even if I only pay a tiny fraction of what you did. The GK7 reminds me so much of another Japanese figure I adore: The Ogon Bat i.e. (Golden Bat)
Go Nagai saying he "got nothing" and regretted it was heartbreaking.
Yes
Most toy collectors these days have no idea how hard to find (especially for a decent price and in good condition) these figures are, 3000.00 is your starting point for the cheaper ones…to find a true toy holy grail is a special thing
So true!
Just sold my beat-up Great Mazinger for $380. Bought it at a yard sale a few years ago for $0.25
I wish they remade them.
I agree! They’re great figures!
They did remake a few of them in the early 2000s. A company called Unifive. It damn near bankrupted them. @@Teeveepicksures
This is amazing, it would have been nice to see more of his collection, but even it is a very inspiring story ❤
Perhaps someday we will! Thank you for watching!
Ah! Another Boston kid that got the Force Five bug right between the eyes! My collecting also started with Mr. Big toy land! I still have dreams about being there!
It must’ve been an amazing shop! Thanks for watching l!
Channel 56 out of Boston was my jam too.
👍
Wow this was a FANTASTIC piece 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾🫶🏾🫶🏾🫶🏾🫶🏾

Glad you got your grail!!!! You older videos might be the first toy hunt videos ! Ha
Also a section where you amazing collectors can help/ explain how to navigate wives and children with collecting would be so helpful 🤣🤣
Thank you for watching. I thought the same thing about his video lol!
Always kicking the ball with this toy video series. ❤❤❤❤
Thank you!

Mis respetos Señor Tom Frank usted si que es un Super Fan de los Super Robots, saludos de Lima Perú.
💯
That was awesome. I'd heard that Garada story a number of times. Better to hear it from the horses mouth.
Yes it is! Thanks for watching!
great story, with a heartbreaking end.
Yes! 🥹
amazing collection, and great video. I love learning new things about toys from collectors who are so passionate about them!
So do we! Thanks you for watching!
As a young collector for some soft toys, i really love Go Nagai anime (devilman, mazinger and Cutie Honey).
Very good video!
I have always loved Go Nagai’s versatility as far as stories and characters as well. Thanks for watching!
Love GO NAGAI godzilla art work from the 90s
👍
What a great video! Tom Franck was always a legend I’d hear about on the web. I remember reading about him getting that Garada from Japan. It’s amazing to hear his stories and passion for the toys.
Thank you!
Fascinating story. I have a few cheapy robots but have no connection with the cartoons or vintage robots or anime.
I grew up with action man and atari and the line about computer games taking a big chunk out of the toy market is even more relevant with my own kids.
They still have imagination but its more in a virtual world with no plastic toy counterparts.
And because the games or properties are so fluid, the window of time to produce toys is short.
Very insightful. Thank you for sharing that and thank you for watching!
@@TheMagnificentWorldofToys No problem just occured to me after watching this vid and remembering my kid reenacting some toilet vs cameraman battle he plays online.
They have got some toys available from those games though.
lol wow.
Wonderful.
Thank you!
Yeah, I've been a JM collector for 40+ years, I can safely say my collection most likely is the largest or one of the largest in Texas. However, I could never get past a certain level......once it comes to the level of do I want this JM or a new car or a new roof on my house...... I'm out. And if you can't cross that threshold.....you will NEVER have them all.
Ive always tipped my hat to guys like Alt and others that got to that level. It takes real dedication.
My Jumbo's will be one of the last parts of my collection that I sale off, but I will at some point, because you cant take them with you. It's been a fun hobby.
Now, I feel very differently about fakes than most collectors ....im all for it, as long as they are sold as repros and have identifying markers in place that allows them to be identified as such. This same issue plauges the Transformers line as well. But, I'd love to own a spot on Spartan K7 figure that Id normally never be able to own at a fraction of what an original costs.....and as long as it's marked as such, collectors of orginals will not lose value of their originals.
I also enjoy being able to get repro parts for incomplete JMs.....Hiw many collectors out there could use repro Danguard wings or his helmet??? Lol
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and thank you for watching!
Lov it! Big thx for this great vid
You’re welcome and thank you for tuning in!
Thank you TH-cam for recommending this! It went HARD towards my nostalgia as "Mazinger Z" was the first anime I ever saw at 5 and I still love (most) everything that has come out of Go Nagai's imagination. I don't collect these toys but KUDOS!!
I’m grateful to TH-cam too! Thank you for watching!
Epic video, love the old footage and a great story 🙏 thanks so much for uploading this
Thank you. It’s great that he documented his trip out there so well!
oh man great interview. Instant subscribed!
Thank you and welcome!
Beautiful. What a wonderful reminiscence. Good seeing you, Tom!
Thank you for tuning in!
That was deep
Yes!
That's how you end a documentary!
👍
this is a superb interview. thanks so much to all of you for making this.
Thank you 👍
Wow amazing episode you got a new subscriber
Thanks and welcome!
Wonderful episode and so nice to see toys I’ve never seen before such as the villains. So jealous Tom got to meet Nagai. What a joyous experience that must have been. So sad that the creator never got to experience the joy of owning toys of his magnificent characters
His perseverance and dedication is unparalleled! Thanks for watching!
Brilliant upload, i Really enjoyed it. 🤖
Awesome! Glad you liked it!
This is a dude, at least in one part of his life, is somewhat “complete!” Epic collection!
Totally! Thank you for watching!
I had a GARADA K7 when l had my collection.
Cool!
Astro boy is still my favourite robot
👍
is that a original garada k7 from the 70s?
the toys in the case to the left are amazing. what toys are those and what kind of case is that?
I cant speak for the case but there will more on those figures in the next video 😉
I have only one, bought it from a thrift store for €1,50. 😁👍
Awesome!
