Damn Marty I have to say im so glad I'm learning guitar from your lessons. My dad recently got in a climbing accident and can't move from his bed and I watched him today for thanksgiving while everyone was gone, he was struggling to fall asleep so I picked up my acoustic an within ten minutes he was out. I'm just showing my appreciation cause the passion of playing can give you so much in return. Thanks dude
Lovin' this Marty. Been following the dead for 30 years, just picked up a guitar 2 years ago. I will be following you for the next 30. Awesome song choice. This is a great lick to work on and a beautiful song to play. And a wonderful way to pay tribute to Janice. For your podcasts, in general, I would suggest let them be the venue by which you can mentor us on subjects we can learn or think about when we *don't* have a guitar in our hands. (Seems like that's never for you!)
Goodness Marty you just became my hero all over again :)! Thank you so much for this. I don't understand how this is the first time I have seen this...Keep spreading the love, joy and healing of music...Def sharing this on FB
Ahh nothing like a classic Marty lesson. Decided it was time to put this one my repertoire and to see a Marty video there was no question what I was gonna watch to start diggin this one. Reminds me of learning my first tunes🙂
Thank you...been playing bass for 47 years and decided to learn a few songs on guitar..this being my FIRST song.Got pretty much all the way through...now to practice practice...arthritis willing....and try my hand at singing once I get there.
Yes!! Thank you Marty for bringing the magic of this song alive for me. I'm just a beginner but really like how you break everything down and make it happen. I was excited to know that you're a Dead fan as well. I'm a drummer and teach kids music and you are helping me to learn more. Keep up the awesome enthusiasm and great work!
Grateful dead !!!!! Stellar choice, lifelong deadhead & Marty follower, I bought many DVD series from Marty because he's the only one I've found who can break it down very slow. Keep up the good work, karma will reward you
You can u Tube the Grateful dead play Birdsong live in their accoustic set in Autumn 1980. Jerry gives a lovely smile during his accoustic solo, what a lovely man.....
Hey marty, i have been really wanted to play the past recedes by john frusciante and you're the only guy on youtube that teaches well ... Thank you if you noticed my comment
Hi Marty great lesson (like always) Thanks ! in these accoustic songs could you help us a bit on the placement of the lyrics? like at the end of the lessson, you would play the song slowly and singing on it... thanks again !
~MORE GRATEFUL DEAD ,I've learned so much from jerry's style, on acoustic guitar ...and there is plenty of material there ...I have learned some blues licks from your vid's on ,here . Did not know you were into the DEAD, till this week.. Taught I heard some Jerry overtone's in your playing lol .... thanx again 4 your time ..(~);}
Yes - That podcast is an excellent idea! How can such a thing happen? Hmmmm??? Marty - Have a podcast PLEEEEAAAAASSSe. I've learned so much from your dvd"s I got (the coaching club) But it would sure be nice to see a concert from our teacher. Something to share and motivate people to play and strive to be good enough to learn to play 1/2 as good as you are - Thank you Gary
About working on learning this song, I’m going to search your page, you are one of the first video that would come to you with yours anyway😍👏🏼👍🏼 thanks for being a boss @marty
Explaining theory/scales would be awesome; Common mistakes; Switching from Acoustic to electric guitar (differences); setups; New artists you've found; style reviews of players; The list goes on :P Rock on Marty.
and just so we're clear I mean from 0:13 on (starts with an E major chords, goes to C, G, D, A and back to E major. It actually is the same progression I think. Haven't played Hey Joe in a while)
Hey Marty, thanks for the ever incredible stuff you have always posted. I am curious what you are recording with. Is it a large diaphragm condenser? Sounds great
Marty what model Martin guitar is that? Do you still have? I have a similar one and was wondering what exact model your was in this video as I notice in your newer videos your playing a different axe. awesome videos thx!
is it me or does the riff kinda sound like that of Hey Joe (in the same way that smells like teen spirit kinda sounds like more than a feeling by Boston)?
fantastic lesson; opening riff: I love it; great explanation of chords and their rhythm; but the "vocal melody" part you never explained! Or at the least you could have slowed it down and repeated it a couple times. Anyway, great lesson. Mil gracias.
