As an artist, one of my favourite aspects of the game is the art, like in the cards. While it might look like characters in cute settings, a lot of them are way deeper that that, showing themes, characters, feelings and stories. It's quiet literally, in my opinion, art. I thing Sega / Colorful Palette understands that too; in the festival gachas there are cards withe the Virtual Singer only tag that represents the Vocaloids. I know the Rin and Len ones resonated with a lot of people and the Luka one worked on the world building with "Sekais". But yeah, the cards are one of my favourite aspects and I can talk about a card set for days
same!!!! my favourite example is the "abyss of memories" saki card, as she is surrounded by things she cant do because of her illness (ee.g. tennis racquet, school uniform, suitcase representing sport, school and travelling). there are also paper cranes in the bath with her, which is interesting because theres a story in japan that says that anyone who folds 1000 paper cranes will have any wish granted. i think this is so sad because its clear that sakis one wish is to get better and enjoy life with her friends. ok sorry for this rant but i totally agree with you about the card sets :]
!!CERTIFIED YAPPER ALERT!! tldr; Ichika has a great layered personality, the game does in fact acknowledge the role producers play (albeit infrequently since most events don't have much to do with the characters' relationships with vocaloid music), and Mizuki is and always was transfem. Ichika is ambitious, passionate, humble, and courageous. Where others may falter, she finds the strength and motivation to improve herself, maintain connections, and create new ones, often in ways that surprises even herself. She is a beacon of courage for me, much like Minori. She is also a prime example for showing the core spirit of vocaloid, through the way the songs brought her and the rest of Leo/need together, the way she tackles music production, and the way it brings her and others together. Initially thinking her lyrics needed to be cool and trendy, Iori and the sekai vocaloids help her realize that they should come from the heart to express her feelings genuinely and to trust in her words as they flow freely. She views Miku not as the sole voice of vocaloid songs, but as a companion to producers. Wanting to show her appreciation for Miku as an instrument and collaborative partner for many musicians, she even learns how to use a Miku voicebank to produce her own song with immense support from Kanade. It's also through vocaloid that Ichika and Kanade meet in the first place; Ichika was looking to buy a cd with some Miku songs she likes, while Kanade was buying the same cd because she likes the producer of said songs. Personally, I doubt the majority of proseka enjoyers don't have prior knowledge of/interest in vocaloid; I tend to see that many people (like myself) downloaded the game to play their favorite songs and check out the covers, then fell in love with the characters and art afterward. I also think it's foolish to judge any game's story and characters when one hasn't even consumed a good majority of the content (people who don't read event stories are *mildly* infuriating). Of course it doesn't help that media literacy is a dying tongue in today's society. As for the Mizuki "debate", I am of the opinion that there shouldn't be one; Mizuki is transfem/non-binary, period. One of the earliest events in the game began the "Mizuki's secret" arc, laying out the groundwork by showing us part of her battle with identity and gender expression. The delicate way colopale has presented their story is more than enough to prove to me that Mizuki being trans isn't something colopale added as a trope, it was part of their vision for her character and their relationship with n25 from the beginning. Personally, the people calling Mizuki a "femboy" and those who condone it make me sick. Thanks to whoever actually reads all this. If it wasn't obvious, this game and the characters mean a lot to me. I could probably write theme essays for each group on the ways they succeed at being genuine and relatable (and the ways they fall short (cough cough wxs cough cough)).
I was big into vocaloid (DEFINITELY still am), and I got into Sekai through wanting a free vocaloid rhythm game. Ichika is my favourite of the human characters, and I get why you don't like her, even I really, really do. Even though, obviously whether or not you like any character from anything comes down to personal opinion, I think Ichika is a lot more of a polarizing character when it comes to people's views on her, due to the fact that, ironically, she is a bit more of a "normal" character. I was first drawn to leo/need due to the fact that they used real instruments/were a "proper" band, since that's more my type of music, and in the begining I didn't care for Ichika and just liked Saki, Honami & Shiho. Then the event stories happened, and as you said, yeah, she's still much more toned down than other characters. But that's a nice change of pace compared to, for example, a character like Emu. I really appreciate how, even though she isn't as flashy or colourful compared to other characters, they still make her well rounded and developed. I also adore all her friendships with leo/need (and the whole of leo/need in general.) Again, obviously if that's your opinion I can't change that, so this is just how an Ichika fan feels in case you were wondering. Great video, I don't see many long-form/video essay videos on Project Sekai a lot, so this was fun to watch! 👍
I appreciate the insight, I can't see what others do in her, but this makes sense. I guess she can still stand out if she doesn't have an expectation of standing out for personality, while still being reasonably well developed as a character and her journey. That's fair. Thanks for watching!
I love Ichika, too, but shes definitely slept on (especially for the main character). Hopefully the anime brings more people to like her as a protagonist.
@@mau1368No, when I first started the game I also had the same thoughts as you. I'm really glad they're finally giving NPCs voices because a lot of cutscenes with unvoiced NPCs just felt weird, even the cutscene showing Airi talking to her old manager just didn't impact me that much because she was just talking to someone we can't see or hear
VBS is SUCH a slow burn and all your concerns are neatly addressed literally only in their events which will appear in 2025. It's unfortunate but that's how they roll. Not to spoil your experience but, a majority of those early event plot points will only take shape in their 3rd and 4th rotational stories Questions like "What is Rad Weekend for Vivid street" "Why is An feeling conflicted for Kohane, and will they have a confrontation?" "Is Rad Weekend really the end for VBS?" I wish you the best of luck

I was introduced to pjsk through vacaloid but even then there’s only so much you can know about a community that has been around since before you were born. (In summary I think it’s extremely interesting seeing older vacaloid fans talk about pjsk) (ALSO an extra thought is that I think a Minori mixed focus called scramble egg festival or smth mentions vacaloid producers but correct me if I’m wrong)
BRO PLS KEEP POSTING PROSEKA VIDEOS IM SO HUNGRY FOR PROSEKA CONTENT CREATORS AND YOU'RE SO FUCKING FUN TO WATCH I FELT LIKE I WAS TAKING A REAL CONVERSATION WITH A FRIEND
Haha thanks, future stuff will be of different games and I've exhausted what I have to say about Sekai by now, you'll be waiting another year or more for a new video if I went back to that game Glad you enjoyed!
Saw this video in my recommandations and got curious... ended up seeing the whole thing in one shot... I blame my Project Sekai enjoyment on that. I grew up with Vocaloid seeing the exact video you've shown (that one Project Diva intro changed my whole life) but rarely ever deeply indulged with it. I watched covers, enjoyed stuff more deeply like Kagerou Project or some Evilious songs, but it was mostly on-off. I rarely looked into the creators themselves or more songs than what was in Diva. At least that was until I started Project Sekai last year and... it changed everything by becoming one of my dearest games ever, just for what it represents... I read through the whole story, discovered a ton of songs, got overjoyed seeing some of my introductory songs actually being there (Heartrate by Chouchou-p will have to be played at my funeral!), and yeah, the game, its content and the scene it promotes are integral parts of my lifestyle and the person I am now... it gave me the hope I want to preserve as a young adult. Every time I dig into something it gave us, I keep finding more and more ideas, inspirations, lessons to take, and I am grateful for it 🙏 Now I understand it might not be for everyone, either given the tone, its format, or even the overwhelming amount of story to read in order to not be blatantly wrong about any character interpretation... but I guess that's just what fiction is so it's fine. Of course there's still some criticism to be had, and I was really pleasantly surprised by your view on what Project Sekai could improve in terms of representing Vocaloid! I'll just end by saying I found the part dedicated to Ichika quite amusing to sit through when she literally is my favorite character, next to Honami, which you did compare her to. I feel their similarities actually do play a part in how different they are, both in what they experienced and how they responded to it, but also in how they pushing each other up, Saki and Shiho included of course! I don't think Ichika is a good MC for the game because of her "easy to self insert into" aspect, but that she is because of her passion. She is a girl whose entire motivation revolves around making connexions with people thanks to what she loves as she relearns how to express her feelings through the event stories. Just as Vocaloid music lit this fire in her heart and got her to be with her friends doing all this, she wants to spread this flame around to other people so they can also find kindred souls, which imo is the entire point of Project Sekai using Vocaloid and trying to reignite people's love for it, and bring new people on board... While Ichika wants to create connexions, Honami is instead someone who wants to maintain them, help people keep what they've built up. This is what she does through listening to both sides (which ended up in her being bullied as we know..), taking care of people in general, and just making sure their voices and thoughts are being heard, so that they do not disappear. I... ended up rambling about Leo/need, I hope it's okay 😅 Just wanna say that I'm thankful for this video and the food it gave for my thoughts about this game, and Vocaloid.
Don't feel bad for rambling, this is the kind of stuff I'm glad I see from a community like this and how my experience differs from theirs. I made a point that that there are people who can dissect the characters and story way better than I can and you've proved just that. Your outlined differences between Hona and Ichi is something I really shouldve picked up on to view the story less directly and more broadly; I knew SEKAI is about connections made by Vocaloid but I didn't think about (or likely felt but didn't notice) the ways L/N specifically played those roles as individuals, and I guess now I do. Thanks for the insightful feedback!
about the "is mizuki trans" debate: in her 5th event story that came out earlier this month, it is, in my opinion, pretty much confirmed that she is trans. [spoilers for mizu5 ofc] in the last couple of episodes for this event, mizuki decides to meet ena on the rooftop bc she wants to tell her her secret. however, mizuki is a bit late getting up there since she has to help an injured student. during this time, 2 male students, when they find out that ena is friends with mizuki, ask, "are you a boy too?" it is then revealed that mizuki heard this, and she runs away. after the event, she does not appear in the real world as she is hiding in sekai. her voicelines are also changed, making her emotionless and depressed. i genuinely dont see how the "are you a boy too?" line could be interpreted as anything other than mizuki being trans mtf, especially since mizuki as a child had short hair, wore boys' clothes, and was made fun of for dressing cutely when she did. also, mizukis voice actor tweeted that colopale would continue "handling this subject with care". i doubt she would say this unless it was a subject as "controversial" as a trans character. also i know that no one will read this but i feel like a lot of people can relate to mizuki a lot, which is why i am glad that sega decided to tackle this issue.
same with them calling ena a "normal girl" like i understand its his opnion and all but at the same time, it really sucks to see people call mizuki a boy?, so far all that they show themselves as is as a girl, hell their discord name is fem and mizuki never expected to actually see the people at nightcord and they already assume she is a girl so they probably presented as one online too Theres wayy too much stuff on mizus events that can be read as her being trans and obviously as a trans person i will see my own feelings on her it feels like most of the time the people who call them a femboy arent really a femboy or arent really trying to see themselves as mizuki, they just assume that japan would never show a trans character and thats sad yeah even i dont fully expect colopale to ever say they are trans but i will support the notion they probably are at least a metaphor for it till its over
@@miigi-p4939 absolutely!! tbh anyone saying shes a crossdresser/femboy is NOT using their brain. first of all do u think a man (hypthetically if she was a crossdresser) would react that way after being called a... man? also like... why do u want her to not be trans so bad? why are u blatantly ignoring the context clues? i feel like anyone thinking this way is pretty much transphobic. bc why tf else would their first thought after this event would be "oh mizuki is obviously a cis guy" like that makes literally no sense (unless u dont want them to be trans. which is transphobic.)
6:11 when I was a beginner i was on the verge of giving up because I couldn’t do them but after I finally beat them I immediately got good pretty fast😭
I look at men and I feel weird. I don't like that I'm glad you came back to visit the game again one last time. It's nice to see an outside take, especially after you gave it more time. I also find it really funny that your favorite vocaloid is pink and your favorite sekai oc seems to be pink and your least favorite Also seems to be pink...
all events focus on a single character more or less! its done in a rotation. the "what happens after they surpass rad weekend" problem is being dealt with right now on jp and mizuki is VERY MUCH TRANS, the people denying it after reading the story in japanese are transphobes who let it cloud their reading comprehension but they're being very very loud about it and i've seen biased translations from BOTH SIDES. unfortunately colopale will never put a label on mizuki because they'd lose revenue (that they're already lacking ー this is why ads were implemented). we've had trans characters in jp games before and they nearly never get the confirmation those people are looking for. the closest i've seen in a game i actually play was arashi from enstars saying she's a girl, but a label still wasn't used.
Seriously, I hate how Mizuki was CLEARLY trans from the very beginning, but the game had to go and outright say "she's not a normal girl" (by the bullie's words) for people to finally recognize it. And even then, some idiots still don't accept it... Unbelievable
yeah I didn't mean to diminish any existing trans characters in JP media and hope I didn't come off as *too* ignorant. The way people get with arguing about mizuki just makes me not wanna engage with the topic much, but skirting around them for a second time isnt something I wanted to do Thanks for your feedback, uphold the MASS
If you think wearing cute clothes do necessarily mean Mizuki have to be a girl, then you should know that gender role should not even exist in the first place. Think about it. The whole gender thing is killing every one struggling in it. Read some Postgenderism paper for Mizuki, please.
@@o0l1e3q9 holy shit WHERE did i say that??? IM GNC. I'm also against gender roles. I've read the jp story and there's comments mocking and calling her a boy and the tone was apparent. it was a transphobic comment. i don't know quite how to explain the nuance of the language used unfortunately. there's even more stuff across all the stories that I don't know how to express and summarize in text (not helping my case, I know, but english and japanese are my 2nd and 3rd languages and I speak much better in real life). and liking cute or feminine things obviously doesn't make Mizuki trans by itself however when you look at it together with the bits of writing we got across several years its clearly one of the signs. in her case the stereotypical feminity is part of her identity as a girl.
I knew vocaloid before playing project sekai but i werent into Any of the vocaloids i knew at the time. I remember when Kyu-kurarin dropped on project sekai i abselutely fall in love With that song and it lead me to find Kafu from ceVIO. Shes my favourite now but im not sure if i Can Call her a vocaloid🤷♀️
11:08 so… you probably interpreted wrong lol, let me explain. All of Ado’s music is produced and written by Vocaloid producers in collaboration with her, meaning the lyrics are partially hers and everything else is made by the producer with Ado’s ideas. Meaning the sekai versions (in vocaloid form) are actually the songs the producers sent to her before recording! Ussewa was written and produced by Syudou, and the Sekai vocaloid ver IS Syudou’s original version and tuning! (Which is a really nice fact) so,,, no, it wasn’t only because Ado is mega popular, but because she is also under the vocaloid umbrella
I agree with you on how underwhelming the story is represented. But I can forgive it after spending so much time reading the stories. ColorPale obviously have to prioritize their budget into other area of the game like pay for commissions, contracting voice actor, hire story writers, art design, ect, which left the visual novel little to work with. The animator team really try their hardest to put emotion into the character animation despite its limits. And knowing how much it cost to commission live2d models, it's understandable why the character don't have new model/clothes to match their card art for every event. Actually, one of your concerns have been addressed since the 4th anniversary celebration. Yes, the background characters have voices now. Honestly such a good timing for Mizu5 too, just hearing the harsh words thrown against Mizuki from these no face characters make their struggles a lot more sympathetic. It does feel like the worlds is against them, and can't fathom finding someone who really accept them for who they are.
Question why don't you increase card mastery it can increase characters quickly and increase power for higher score you get wish piece by clearing the green room(the duplication room)

Theres wayy too much stuff on mizus events that can be read as her being trans
and obviously as a trans person i will see my own feelings on her
it feels like most of the time the people who call them a femboy arent really a femboy or arent really trying to see themselves as mizuki, they just assume that japan would never show a trans character and thats sad
yeah even i dont fully expect colopale to ever say they are trans but i will support the notion they probably are at least a metaphor for it till its over
@@pinky_pluggy7848 OMG I WROTE FTM BY ACCIDENT OOPS 💀 ty for pointing that out lmao
@@ruibriosca No prob! ^^
1:21:16 Let’s go, sonic symphony mention❗️❗️❗️
I had a whole fit when you read the 1*star reviews
mizukiismypookie and Cookiethe1st are names I'll be telling my future generations about for the joy they've given me
6:11 when I was a beginner i was on the verge of giving up because I couldn’t do them but after I finally beat them I immediately got good pretty fast😭
Just finished watching this video and it’s really well done just like your last video on this game-!
Thanks for watching and probably waiting! I'm still getting used to having some returning viewers lol
31:09 - 32:26 why did you have to say all of that. I did not click on this video to cry😭
My bad I just had things to say Nightcord are just that good
I look at men and I feel weird. I don't like that
I'm glad you came back to visit the game again one last time. It's nice to see an outside take, especially after you gave it more time.
I also find it really funny that your favorite vocaloid is pink and your favorite sekai oc seems to be pink and your least favorite Also seems to be pink...
all events focus on a single character more or less! its done in a rotation.
the "what happens after they surpass rad weekend" problem is being dealt with right now on jp
and mizuki is VERY MUCH TRANS, the people denying it after reading the story in japanese are transphobes who let it cloud their reading comprehension but they're being very very loud about it and i've seen biased translations from BOTH SIDES. unfortunately colopale will never put a label on mizuki because they'd lose revenue (that they're already lacking ー this is why ads were implemented). we've had trans characters in jp games before and they nearly never get the confirmation those people are looking for. the closest i've seen in a game i actually play was arashi from enstars saying she's a girl, but a label still wasn't used.
The way people get with arguing about mizuki just makes me not wanna engage with the topic much, but skirting around them for a second time isnt something I wanted to do
Thanks for your feedback, uphold the MASS
Really good video
THE KING IS BACK
That's a funny way to spell Luka but YES 🙌

You didn’t have to call me out like that💀
11:08 so… you probably interpreted wrong lol, let me explain. (Which is a really nice fact) so,,, no, it wasn’t only because Ado is mega popular, but because she is also under the vocaloid umbrella
....yeah that checks out. My bad lol
They really should have called the main story "prologue" instead, because that's what it actually is.
The name "main story" is really misleading.
THATS WHAT IM SA man why didn't I say this this is exactly how I feel about that label
Question why don't you increase card mastery it can increase characters quickly and increase power for higher score you get wish piece by clearing the green room(the duplication room)

But of course, this is a better one. Holy SHIT 1 hour of yapping. The criticisms was valid, the humor was funny, and the video was just great overall. This was AMAZING and I will be subscribing even if I’m not expecting these type of content anymore. This video, you in this video is what I aspire to be- a fun yapping session where I can just freely express what I feel about a specific topic.
Glad you enjoyed it! I'll try to keep this kind of energy going forward
