I really appreciate how Project SEKAI managed to create a story that isn't just about Vocaloid mascot characters, but serves as a metaphor for how we interact with Vocaloid and music in general. The human characters' feelings give birth to "SEKAI" with unique versions of the Vocaloid cast, and eventually turn into songs. I think this is a really cool way of representing how a producer's own thoughts and emotions are conveyed through Vocaloids, by using them in their music. I also think that the way the Virtual Singers are able to comfort and help the people who visit their SEKAI is supposed to reflect how we're able to find comfort by listening to music in real life. Some of these themes were definitely present in Project DIVA X, but Project SEKAI does a much better job at conveying these ideas with the inclusion of it's original human cast.

Ado isn't Vocaloid. But she's the closest thing. If Vocaloid is Germany then Ado is Austria. Almost all her songs are either Vocaloid covers or just original songs made for her by Vocaloid producers. Sekai also has Yoasobi who is similar to Ado. And songs by other companies software like Phony and Mesmerizer.
Honestly, all this time I just thought Yoasobi songs were added cuz of Ayase and Eve songs cuz he's an "ex" vocaP. And utaus are technically synths so it's not too surprising to have their songs in-game. Is that just me? 🤷♀️
The cards' main functions are getting more score in the rhythm game by using high rarity cards and upgrading their level and skills that they come with (some of them boost your score, others correct your mistakes for a little bit, and some recover your hp) and possibly even more importantly getting points for whatever event is ongoing by assembling a team of cards with characters featured in the event with its assigned type (the little symbol in the corner of each card). If you can coordinate this correctly you can unlock the event story, get stuff with your points at the exchange shop and get rewards at the end by placing in the leaderboard. Also each card comes with a side story tied to whatever event the card got introduced with.

Yes it is a rhythm game but the characters don’t know that.. the music is what connects the characters (kinda excluding WxS), it’s what brings them all together, the Sekais are ment to help the characters in their respective groups find the meaning to their motivations, to find why the Sekais where created, and most were made from passion, the passion to preform, the passion to compose, the passion to create friendships. And if you look deep enough into each group, music is what connected them all, L/N: bringing childhood friends back together to make music again, MMJ: to give back the passion idols once had to preform music, VBS: to show how enough hard work and passion for your music will help you achieve your goals, WxS: to bring people together to help them grow and understand why the love to preform shows and songs, N24, to help people who are struggling to find themselves, find where they belong, find their passion to continue through music or art. Every unit is connected to music in some way even if it’s vague. This is one of the reasons I love pjsk! It’s all about learning what makes you strive for success either it being for yourself or others.

The main reason I can see how the main stories may feel dull without any gameplay I think comes down to how they were originally unlocked. They used to (thank god not anymore) be unlocked by playing songs with that units characters. This took FOREVER, the only times you were able to read them freely was during special events (Anniversary and stuff mainly, maybe others I’m not too sure it’s been a while). I was a pretty avid player of the game and never unlocked even one whole units story without using the unlocks during the special events, so in a way, gameplay was forced into the story viewing but not anymore. The main reason why this was SO bad comes down to how the unlocks were based on an exp system which was tied to what characters you used and seeing as in the early game you just want to play with whatever 4 and 3*s you got it was so hard to build a good team for it as it ALSO needed your talent to be high which is really hard early game. TLDR: story used to require gameplay to read, very bad system
I play the Japanese version. For some reason the international one doesn't work on my phone. So yeah the stories are very boring as I don't read Japanese. But I doubt they would improve.

Okay, so. I'm early into the video but for clarity, Akita Neru, Sakine Meiko and Yowane Haku are fanloids that are derivatives of Vocaloids. Neru is either a high pitched Miku or low pitched Rin, Haku is a low pitched Miku and Sakine Meiko is supposed to be a high pitched Meiko as she is meant to be a younger Meiko. Teto, however, is an utauloid. She comes from the vocal synth called "utau" and it's basically Vocaloid if one person made it in 2008 and it was free. Though, Utau has been replaced by Open Utau as open utau has quality of life features that just replace the original Utau. Also, nyanyanyanya is originally a Miku song, but the version used in the Nyan cat meme was sung using the Utau, Momo Momone.

3:18:38 I think the only problem with the flashback is Tsukasa’s narration. The flashback works to show where Tsukasa’s interest in theater comes from but the only thing that kinda makes the rest of the story feel jarring is that it has him state out loud why he loves it (making ppl smile). All the had to do was cut out the narration and end the flashback before Tsukasa says he wants to make Saki/people smile and it would’ve been fine. The first time I watch WxS main story I thought Tsukasa was lying about his reasons for wanting to be a star bc he was embarrassed or something not that he literally didn’t remember

This is not only an extremely comprehensive guide to the history of the Project Diva series but also an incredible good introduction to Project Sekai story, probably the best I have seen so far. Unrelated, but I think we all had the same reaction (30:42) experience the Evillious chronicles for the first time.

Honami is actually really fleshed out once you get to know her more!! She was actually severely bullied by her classmates because she was seen as “two-faced”, which led her to believe she HAD to choose sides. She is also Kanade’s Housekeeper, and has admitted to wanting to “disappear”. She is really just a sweetie who tries to be kind, and is (personally) one of the most relatable characters in the game.
Ahhh amazing video!! These days I’m mostly a project sekai fan since it’s the most recent iteration, but I’ve been a Miku and vocaloid fan since 2013, so it’s lovely to see someone go through it all and give each game a shot. Specifically your sekai deep dive was really nice to see. I find a lot of older vocaloid fans immediately have a hostile attitude towards the original characters going into the game because it’s not the characters they’re used to. Alternatively though I think Project Sekai, despite all its cash-grabby gatcha elements, is one of the most vast Project games that covers so much more of the wider vocaloid community than the games that only focus on the crypton character songs. The original characters are a great representation of the many different kinds of Vocaloid fans, genres and reasons people get into the culture. At the end of the day, it’s always seemed like a love letter to music and to the entire vocaloid community to me, which is why I’m so disheartened by a lot of the initial hostility towards it just because its a newer game that features non-vocaloid characters. While I cannot forgive your opinion on Honami (/j) this is a really nice video that goes into great depth with a open mind about all the games, the stories and each one’s strengths and weakness. Thank you!! P.S. the Ado songs came from an Ado tieup a while back! Ado is a huge fan of vocaloid and both Ussewa and Odo were produced by vocaloid producers (syudou and Giga). They did a similar thing with Ayase, which is why Yoru ni kakeru (into the night) is in the game despite not being a vocaloid song, since Ayase is the producer for Yoasobi. Hope that clears it up :)

Your take on honami/leo/need made me cry. Maybe its because they are heavily relatable to me, but leo/need imo is one of the best written units in game, showcasing realistic and well written struggles that actual people face, and it also has great messaging and development for its characters. Honami especially, who is one of my top three characters in game alongside with ena and nene, is incredible. She shows kindness in such a way where you feel like she's likeable, but also not one note, especially in her later (or i guess earlier) events. I HIGHLY recommend watching honamis first focus, and reading the lyrics to the song awaiting clear skies afterwards, because it really shows how great of a character she is. All of leo/need in general shows a realistic depiction of a band and how they actually work, alongside with the problems of being in one. Fun fact, the only characters outside of n25 that want to "disappear" are honami and akito.
same as a leo/need and more more jump fan their opinions on them made me sad TT i think honami is the l/n character that developed or changed the most after the main story, especially as she becomes l/n's leader and regulus is such a captivating song that i think suits l/n so well. imo a lot of ppl call l/n and mmj's story boring because a lot of the character development and interesting story arcs happens after the main story. the whole arc with l/n trying to convince shiho to stay with l/n made me cry and watching honami stand up for l/n made me so proud of her. but yeah imo a lot of the ppl interested in and are fans of l/n and mmj are those who have read their stories and events and those who relate to the characters more. either way no one could ever make me hate l/n and mmj!!!!

This is a good video though I can't help but disagree on some of your thoughts on the main stories. I thought that vivid bad squad had the worst story as they didn't pace it well, it has slow pacing till the last few stories where they rushed to make the conclusion. I think that Tsukasa having their flashback opening is actually a good thing as it would come out of nowhere if they put the flashback later on. It establishes that Tsukasa isn't a inherently selfish person and that he was a much more caring person in his past which makes his character development more actualized imo. I do feel a bit bad that you didn't like ichika and her group story because I felt like her story was the most relatable to me being someone who's drifted from many friends and felt regret. She's more boring I agree but she's not completely characterless, she has her character traits that make her, her. This is unrelated but kinoshita's songs all have 2dmvs drawn by them, they are an artist and animator outside of being a vocaloid producer. Cards also have a purpose in gameplay, higher rarity cards give a higher score when upgraded and having a higher score on a song can give more crystals for the first time you play a song. Its also really good for the challenge shows as those are massive crystal givers when you upgrade cards. I try to get a lot of crystals to pull on the gacha because I like getting the costumes from the 4 star cards it makes my head go happy.

As a side note, I did play that mobile miku card collecting game, MikuColle! All the art was pretty, and the battle system was simple enough for someone who, at the time, was much less familiar with getting through japanese mobile games. That being said, it wasn't the most friendly for f2p users. Rates in the regular gacha were pretty rough, and it took a long time to save up for the premium gacha :(

Also if you do have free time, ik the dialog is pretty boring the event stories are SO worth it. They build on the main stories so much and are definitely worth the read. Tsukasa becoming MUCH more of a depressing character mafuyu running away from home and SO MUCH MORE.

the cards in project sekai are for skills during shows :D there's score up cards, perfect locker cards (changes certain taps to perfects), and healers! how good the skill is depends on the rarity
The two ado song was part of a 3 song collab campaign with ado. All the 3 are made by big vocaloid name in the industry Usseewa was made by syudou and have a miku version made for the game. Odo was written by Deco*27 and was made by Giga and teddyloid(who do a lot of mix for deco and giga), Giga published too a Rin and Len version Bocca della verita by Hiiragi Kirai but he did say that he made it with her singing it in his mind and asked ado to cover it.

There is a final version of Project Diva on Steam. I play it on my laptop. It's great. It has a base version and a expansion. With the expansion it has over 300 songs.

I actually love Project Diva X for the unique gameplay aspect and sorta gacha aspect of getting modules, if ONLY it had the same amount of songs as the other games, then it would be a rly good one! I also played Miku Flick back in the day, it was quite fun but SO expensive, it was like $10 to buy the game plus you had to buy more songs, this is the only old app that cost that much, miss it still though! Finally, I just love Project Sekai's story, like i don't know WHY people hate that the story focuses on them instead of the Vocaloids themselves (by ppl i mean mostly twitter users lol) but honestly? The vocaloids are blank slates, they're meant to be given personality by US, or more specifically the producers. To focus on the human characters makes so much sense that I don't get why so many people can't see that's the point! The people are the ones making the music, and creating the personalities, it's not the vocaloids themselves that really do anything other than given you an outlet for creativity. Just LOVE this game, but wish it was a fully paid game on PC or console and not a mobile game, that's whats rly going against project sekai in my opinion.

The main reason why this was SO bad comes down to how the unlocks were based on an exp system which was tied to what characters you used and seeing as in the early game you just want to play with whatever 4 and 3*s you got it was so hard to build a good team for it as it ALSO needed your talent to be high which is really hard early game.
TLDR: story used to require gameplay to read, very bad system
I play the Japanese version. For some reason the international one doesn't work on my phone. So yeah the stories are very boring as I don't read Japanese. But I doubt they would improve.

Okay, so. I'm early into the video but for clarity, Akita Neru, Sakine Meiko and Yowane Haku are fanloids that are derivatives of Vocaloids. Neru is either a high pitched Miku or low pitched Rin, Haku is a low pitched Miku and Sakine Meiko is supposed to be a high pitched Meiko as she is meant to be a younger Meiko. Teto, however, is an utauloid. She comes from the vocal synth called "utau" and it's basically Vocaloid if one person made it in 2008 and it was free. Though, Utau has been replaced by Open Utau as open utau has quality of life features that just replace the original Utau. Also, nyanyanyanya is originally a Miku song, but the version used in the Nyan cat meme was sung using the Utau, Momo Momone.

The flashback works to show where Tsukasa’s interest in theater comes from but the only thing that kinda makes the rest of the story feel jarring is that it has him state out loud why he loves it (making ppl smile). All the had to do was cut out the narration and end the flashback before Tsukasa says he wants to make Saki/people smile and it would’ve been fine. The first time I watch WxS main story I thought Tsukasa was lying about his reasons for wanting to be a star bc he was embarrassed or something not that he literally didn’t remember

Honami is actually really fleshed out once you get to know her more!! She was actually severely bullied by her classmates because she was seen as “two-faced”, which led her to believe she HAD to choose sides. She is also Kanade’s Housekeeper, and has admitted to wanting to “disappear”. She is really just a sweetie who tries to be kind, and is (personally) one of the most relatable characters in the game.
Okay I’m now far less anxious given your correct taste in thinking the Wowaka songs are the best ones in the diva games they debut in

Ahhh amazing video!! These days I’m mostly a project sekai fan since it’s the most recent iteration, but I’ve been a Miku and vocaloid fan since 2013, so it’s lovely to see someone go through it all and give each game a shot. Specifically your sekai deep dive was really nice to see. I find a lot of older vocaloid fans immediately have a hostile attitude towards the original characters going into the game because it’s not the characters they’re used to. Alternatively though I think Project Sekai, despite all its cash-grabby gatcha elements, is one of the most vast Project games that covers so much more of the wider vocaloid community than the games that only focus on the crypton character songs. The original characters are a great representation of the many different kinds of Vocaloid fans, genres and reasons people get into the culture. At the end of the day, it’s always seemed like a love letter to music and to the entire vocaloid community to me, which is why I’m so disheartened by a lot of the initial hostility towards it just because its a newer game that features non-vocaloid characters. While I cannot forgive your opinion on Honami (/j) this is a really nice video that goes into great depth with a open mind about all the games, the stories and each one’s strengths and weakness. Thank you!!
P.S. the Ado songs came from an Ado tieup a while back! Ado is a huge fan of vocaloid and both Ussewa and Odo were produced by vocaloid producers (syudou and Giga). They did a similar thing with Ayase, which is why Yoru ni kakeru (into the night) is in the game despite not being a vocaloid song, since Ayase is the producer for Yoasobi. Hope that clears it up :)

Your take on honami/leo/need made me cry. Maybe its because they are heavily relatable to me, but leo/need imo is one of the best written units in game, showcasing realistic and well written struggles that actual people face, and it also has great messaging and development for its characters. Honami especially, who is one of my top three characters in game alongside with ena and nene, is incredible. She shows kindness in such a way where you feel like she's likeable, but also not one note, especially in her later (or i guess earlier) events. I HIGHLY recommend watching honamis first focus, and reading the lyrics to the song awaiting clear skies afterwards, because it really shows how great of a character she is. All of leo/need in general shows a realistic depiction of a band and how they actually work, alongside with the problems of being in one. Fun fact, the only characters outside of n25 that want to "disappear" are honami and akito.
same as a leo/need and more more jump fan their opinions on them made me sad TT i think honami is the l/n character that developed or changed the most after the main story, especially as she becomes l/n's leader and regulus is such a captivating song that i think suits l/n so well. imo a lot of ppl call l/n and mmj's story boring because a lot of the character development and interesting story arcs happens after the main story. the whole arc with l/n trying to convince shiho to stay with l/n made me cry and watching honami stand up for l/n made me so proud of her. but yeah imo a lot of the ppl interested in and are fans of l/n and mmj are those who have read their stories and events and those who relate to the characters more. either way no one could ever make me hate l/n and mmj!!!!

This is a good video though I can't help but disagree on some of your thoughts on the main stories. I thought that vivid bad squad had the worst story as they didn't pace it well, it has slow pacing till the last few stories where they rushed to make the conclusion. I think that Tsukasa having their flashback opening is actually a good thing as it would come out of nowhere if they put the flashback later on. It establishes that Tsukasa isn't a inherently selfish person and that he was a much more caring person in his past which makes his character development more actualized imo. I do feel a bit bad that you didn't like ichika and her group story because I felt like her story was the most relatable to me being someone who's drifted from many friends and felt regret. She's more boring I agree but she's not completely characterless, she has her character traits that make her, her. This is unrelated but kinoshita's songs all have 2dmvs drawn by them, they are an artist and animator outside of being a vocaloid producer. Cards also have a purpose in gameplay, higher rarity cards give a higher score when upgraded and having a higher score on a song can give more crystals for the first time you play a song. Its also really good for the challenge shows as those are massive crystal givers when you upgrade cards. I try to get a lot of crystals to pull on the gacha because I like getting the costumes from the 4 star cards it makes my head go happy.

As a long time Miku fan…. AMAZING video! I was pleasantly surprised by the Sekai story recap, I’ve always wanted to hear a dub.
As a side note, I did play that mobile miku card collecting game, MikuColle! All the art was pretty, and the battle system was simple enough for someone who, at the time, was much less familiar with getting through japanese mobile games. That being said, it wasn't the most friendly for f2p users. Rates in the regular gacha were pretty rough, and it took a long time to save up for the premium gacha :(

There is a final version of Project Diva on Steam. I play it on my laptop. It's great. It has a base version and a expansion. With the expansion it has over 300 songs.

how this video was made exactly for me!! I actually love Project Diva X for the unique gameplay aspect and sorta gacha aspect of getting modules, if ONLY it had the same amount of songs as the other games, then it would be a rly good one! I also played Miku Flick back in the day, it was quite fun but SO expensive, it was like $10 to buy the game plus you had to buy more songs, this is the only old app that cost that much, miss it still though! Finally, I just love Project Sekai's story, like i don't know WHY people hate that the story focuses on them instead of the Vocaloids themselves (by ppl i mean mostly twitter users lol) but honestly? The vocaloids are blank slates, they're meant to be given personality by US, or more specifically the producers. To focus on the human characters makes so much sense that I don't get why so many people can't see that's the point! The people are the ones making the music, and creating the personalities, it's not the vocaloids themselves that really do anything other than given you an outlet for creativity. Just LOVE this game, but wish it was a fully paid game on PC or console and not a mobile game, that's whats rly going against project sekai in my opinion.
