Disney Plus has come under fire of late for making significant changes to some of its programming. From cropping The Simpsons to blurring out Daryl Hannah’s butt in Splash, there’s been some questionable choices and some that are frankly, very understandable. Here we go through some but certainly not all of them get off my back. Thanks for watching!

Well I wouldn't say that completely blazing saddles was ment to parody the western genre. The reason why there's so many racism jokes in the movies is because the western genre would sanitize all that out. It's making fun of the historical inaccuracy(probably mixed with a little "things haven't changed much" comedy too) like it was trying to show here's all the formulaic and dumb things that cowboy movies and shows do and here's what happens when you apply some realism.

They even suddenly erased random parts of sketches in So Random so they just jump to other parts of the episodes and a lot of the changes like the Lilo And Stitch one are just Disney trying to parent kids. I remember my favorite thing from Disney was they released a really interesting collection of the ww2 era PSAs and propaganda cartoons commissioned by the government.
They didn't just have a warning at the beginning but would have a real life person come in and explain some of the more insulting bits at the beginning of each segment.
You can't get this collection anymore sadly, which is why I think that the warning labels aren't going to be where this censorship stops with these movies.
If you get the chance I'd recommend "victory through airpower" it was my favorite from the collection and is on youtube. There's also a vaccine one that really good called "defense against invasion"

However, if you're going to make edits, you damn well better make both versions available to the consumer and let us decide. I hate this "I decided and that's final" shit from Disney, George Lucas, and others.
Just look at 'Major League'. That movie has some cringe-level stalking on the part of the main character, but it was probably seen as "cute" when the film was released. Don't knock Song Of The South unless you have seen it I just recently found a stream of it online and It's not what you think it is. (Context is always key when talking about the past)
If you ever get a chance to see it I would encourage you to do so. For a film set in post civil war Georgia made in the 1940s staring a black man, I find it hard to see the the issues. Not one time is a black person spoken to in a derogatory manner. As a matter of fact for the 40s it breaks ground, Uncle Remus holds hands with the white boy, (Sherley Temple and Bill Robertson rose a huge stink when she held his hand and danced in The Little Colonel.) the boy's good friend is a black boy, the antagonist of the story are 2 white boys and here's the kicker with them they go after the white lead boy NOT the black kid, and over prissy clothing and a dog not who his friends are. The cartoons a voiced by black actors the singing birds are voiced by a Latino ladies singing group.
People may go on about not showing how things really were but take a moment and remember this was a children's film not a historical drama focusing on the sin of slavery but a child dealing with parents who are having a difference of opinion so much so that the separate for a time. Yes it is got rose colored glasses on and is dripping with Zippity Doo Dah sweetness, but why not? I'd rather see people getting along Fred Rogers style than some edgy film were people hate one another.

Yeah, exactly. I also did my own research on the film and found out that Walt wanted this to be respectful and stuff like that. He didn't mean for the film to come across as being rascist at all, but that's what everyone felt that it was doing.

    • @em.the.awful.waffle

100% agree with you. the man who played uncle remus was the first ever black person to win an academy award, and erasing the movie is essentially erasing that amazing part of history. i love the princess and the frog and as much as i want to see tiana get her own disney ride, i hate that they're getting rid of splash mountain (which isn't a "classic" classic but it's been around for 40 years that's pretty impressive by disney standards) and wish it wasn't happening. there's nothing wrong or racist with the ride itself, so i don't get why this has to happen. i'm a huge blm supporter, but i think the outrage over this movie is super exaggerated and everyone just assumes it's bad because someone else told them that it was rather than doing their own research. if the movie was more readily available, this wouldn't happen. i know this is a jumble of thoughts but i just wish that people saw this movie for what it is instead of what everyone says it is

The censoring of Walt holding a cigarette felt like the most problematic to me. I think it's because it entered the realm of editing historical footage, like Disney version of white washing. You could probably make a case for censoring fictional material that someone made up in the first place, but changing factual content to give the impression that a historical figure was more wholesome feels very 1984 .

The oddest thing about removing the "casting couch joke" from Toy Story 2 is, by bringing awareness of it in a children's film, now those kids are grown up, found out the context, was disgusted by it, and *probably* helped put bad people in jail. WHY would they remove it after the fact?

Reminds me of what I heard about when Disney owned the Power Rangers franchise. David Jason Frank, the actor who portrays Tommy Oliver in several series, is known to issue grunts during his fights, like "aiya!" and "sik, aiya!". The higher-ups at Disney issued an order for the production of Power Rangers DinoThunder, asking Tommy to "stop swearing". Bet they were all scratching their heads when they received the message.

Disney plus recently put the Tom Hanks movie “Big” in their movie library. And since the film was made in the 80’s and the rating PG13 didn’t exist back then, when the film first came out in theaters it was rated PG, despite having a PG13 sex scene, strong language, and even use of the F-word. Regardless of this Disney Plus has still rated it as a PG film, which is ridiculous and needs to be fixed.

    You missed Disney censoring:
    1) Random symbols on peoples' clothes in Gravity Falls.
    2) Disney SEA in the Phillipines censored a pair of gay dads in the animated show The Owl House.
    3) They (Disney and Hulu) censored a recent episode the Animaniacs reboot because Wakko called a "random" phone number in the show which was actually a phone number to a sex line.

They changed the episode of the Simpsons called "El viaje misterioso del nuestro Jomer" to "Homer's Mysterious Voyage." Apparently, Disney thinks a language other than English is too scary for it's viewers.
