Max lost points in Mexico, but we all know his mindset. He wasn't in a car that could win the race, so his best strategy was to make his only challenger lose points too. He also knows the rules quite well and he knew a time penalty is the most he would get. Just a yellow card, just like a football player who defends physically and tackles an opponent would happily take the yellow card if that means a scoring chance is neutralized. Luckily for him 2 yellow cards or time penalties doesn't mean a red card (black flag) in F1 and he knows that too. I doubt it was emotions, rather calculated.
Piastri is only on his 2nd season (from the top of my head)? took Max 6 seasons to claim his first victory , took Lando 5. ignoring that their cars where not fast enough for most of the time. When it did happen they had the experience of more seasons. Give Piastri 3 more seasons then compare that's more fair i think. Max now is driving since 2015 i thought it was his debut in his Torro Rosso, so has 9 years of experience in the formula one. And he's only 27.
In my opinion max is better than Hamilton. If you look at Perez vs bottas even if you say there equal. Max dominates checo. Lewis had tracks where in the same car bottas was there taking wins. Max I'm never expecting checo to win anything over Max. Max has had the 2nd or 3rd best car and is still on points or more than the teams with clearly a better car.
Not a fair comparison. These cars are a different and we never know how the cars are like e.g last race Perez didn’t have all the latest upgrades and hasn’t since Baku.

it is actually easy. when you have a championship winning car any driver can win a championship, but legends break records with the car in that season, that is what separates a good driver with a legendary one.
@@lowerlaptime well simple, is lando breaking records from former legends of the sport? answer is no. therefor at the moment he is not a legendary driver. even if he wins the championship, people will see him maybe as one of the worst champions in the sport. max on the other hand holds now the most important seasonal records. even in percentages. therefor he is the greatest of all time. actually i do not think there is anyone who has ever held so many seasonal records as max verstappen.

I would place him as "one of the greatest". There is no single one because there are different era's, different opponents, cars, tracks and so on. The biggest thing Lando is missing is the "hard core killer instinct". Your skill is one thing but your mind is another and to be the best you have to have the mental strength. People like Lewis and Max often deliver their best when things are against them (we have seen that so often). Leclerc has this also but not as much as Lewis and Max. And who doesn't love V10... the best sounding car of all time.
@ Of course! Many of the elements you mentioned (e.g., critical thinking, logic, etc) are something I always believed could apply to anything (business, life) and I feel that your answer was applicable beyond the realm of just F1. I resonated a lot too 👍🏻 Thanks!!
Biggest problem with one lap qualifying is that track evolution has an overly strong effect on the outcome. If that can be negated somehow then yes, one lap qualifying should come back.
True but that is still a thing now, and, it wont always go one way, ie go faster. Track can start cooling off, heating up, rain can come, or rain can go Weather is a part of all sports! Bring it on 😅 Also 1 lap per car isn't significant rubbering in to be honest.
Is he the goat? On his way. I've been following F1 since I was a boy in the '50's. All the drivers who have more than 4 titles in the last four decades Have had dominant car for at least a third of their championships. Except one. Fangio won 5 titles with 4 different teams in less than 10 years. Still the Goat. Except maybe "Ciccio" Ascari. All of the greatest crivers like Max, Schumi, Senna etc, all have greater vision, spatial awareness and a sense of the track (seat of the pants). They can put the car in places that others can't. And they've all had the label of being overly aggressive on the track or dirty or dangerous. Like Ayrton said" if you see a gap and don't go for it you are no longer a racer". Can't beat him on track beat him with the rule book. As for Lewis I'm not a hater but of the 7 at least 5 were what I call soft championships. He still had to produce and he is a really good driver he's got the stats. Credit where credit is due. But you look now with the parody on the track we have now, Lewis isn't bad done by Mercedes, badly beaten. Where is George driving the car?
There is not ONE (The) GOAT. Max Verstappen is a GOAT, one of the Greatest drivers Of All Time... He is among the best Formula One has ever seen (a.o.: Jim Clark, Ayrton Senna, Niki Lauda, Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton...). It is also very difficult to compare drivers from different eras, in very different cars and very different circumstances.
As a Dutchman I would be expected to say yes, but I don't feel right about that......To compare between different era's, different tracks, different cars and different circumstances I feel it is impossible to establish who is "the GOAT". In my opinion it suffices to call him one of the GOATS, together with Lewis, Schumacher, Senna en maybe some guys before that, which I cannot judge. But for sure he is one of the best ever to compete in F1....
@@daphnelovesL He's only 27 give him a car that can win a championship and he might retire with 14 championships to leave no doubt. Why was Fangio not considered as one of the greatest as he was a 5 time world champion, won more than 50% of his races and won championships with 4 different Scudderias ? Is it because you were talking about the modern era post 1990s ?
Honestly its a good question. I'm not into the details of his titles and how he got them. Work for me. Can you shed some light on why he would be in the discussion? Eg I dont put Seb in even though he had 4 titles

Thanks for answering, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has been the best selling Racing Game of All time for almost a decade now, and it is on track to be the Best selling Video Game of all time.
Btw, Max won São Paulo with a strategy similar to the Bagging Mario Kart technique, which is to start from the back wait for the lighting (rain in this case) drive as fast as possible and hold for the Blue Shell (Red Flag).
I don't know why this is difficult for some F1 fans to admit that Max Verstappen is the best driver in the history of the sport. I mean, just look at the numbers at his age they're ridiculous, and he has not even reached his prime yet. He got 62 wins and 110 podiums, and his what 27 years old 😂😂😂
Is Franco still green? Off course! He has only 6 races in F1. In my humble opinion your comparison with Lawson is unfair. Did you know Lawson was already on the full wet when it was raining the most and Franco had his accident with the intermediates?. Are you taking into account that Colapinto had to jump into a F1 car without any preparatio, and Lawson had 5 races last year and almost 2 seasons as a 3er driver doing thousands of laps in formula 1 from previous years? What about the way Franco got ahead of Lawson in his "bad race" in Mexico? Uffff...Let's see what the future brings.
You raise a few good points my friend. I think Franco is good but A) overhyped and B) mismanaged. Encourage you to double check the Lawson attack in Mexico. Was clumsy from Franco. Franco was attacking around the outside, wasn't first to the apex, went off track, collided with Lawson (who had the inside, was 1st to apex, and stayed on track) then Franco gets 10 seconds and 2 penalty points. Nothing about this is good 😄
You are the expert my friend, maybe it was clumsy. To my eyes Franco gets ahead and Liam brakes late and impacts Franco's rear right wheel. It's all about perception, isn't it?
You would be hard pressed to find something a driver in the past had that was superior to Max. What I mean by that is if you take every aspect of racing in consideration, trying to find someone who does that aspect better than Max is a difficult task. He is 27 years old
Never would have guessed born in Australia love to hear it. Going to the goat topic I would say, saying Lewis only had to fight hard for one championship is a little disingenuous. 1. Max hasn’t had a teammate as good as Lewis during his dominate car seasons. Primarily I look at Fernando in 2007 and Nico 14-16. For Nico 2/3 years Lewis beat a world champion caliber teammate which I’d love to see max go up against. 2007 Lewis would’ve won the chip if it was any other teammate not wdc caliber taking as many points. (With Kimi in the picture, imagine this year if it was a George in the other car lando would be much closer to max if maybe ahead of him). 2. 2017/2018 was a hard fight against the Ferraris 2017 more so than 2018. 2017 Ferraris were arguably faster more of the season. Sebastian was leading the championship till the 14th gp where Lewis and merc turned it on. 3. 2021 redbull had the better car until the last 4-5 Grand Prix. 2021 can be debated forever just due to the nature of the season as a WHOLE. * not hating on max! Just my opinion and looks at f1 as a Lewis fan since I was a kid. Over this year I must admit as well max has entranced me with his driving and I’ve also become a fan of his! The last 10 laps at Canada and Brazil sealed it for me. Cheers everyone!
Fantastic video. Good job. I gather from your comments that Max is as close to perfect as ever. Mental, tactical, tire management, and line - but the cars are converging and Hamilton is going to get a good car in 2025. 2025 is going to be great to watch. I think Leclerc has potential to be in Max domain too.
No , but he will be in time if he wins more titles . This is not a hard question. 2021, even though he is a deserving champion, he did not earn it. The very race where he needed to win , he was non existent until Masi paved the way. 2022, impressive but won due to Ferraris antics . 2023, Only competition was Perez , who almost lost p2 in the standings to Lewis. 2024 is more telling of his level to other drivers of his generation. I don't understand why he is already in goat conversation. Top 6 of all time for sure. His teammates have not been the greatest.
In 2021 they both deserved the title. Max made less mistakes than Lewis. Had less luck. I saw that season over (with less emotion) The last race I have still a bad feeling about. Imo they could unlap earlier or finish the race under the safety car.
No he's not and i say that as Max fan.. There will always be people that will count only number of worldchampionships no matter if the driver was bad and his car fantastic (no Hamilton/Shumacher aren't bad that's not what i claim fyi). To truly claim GOAT status you need to claim the most championships even if i dislike the idea and be convinced (i'm not) that Max is the better driver over all of history. Then again Max is only 27 time enough to win more titles then everyone if he wants and get's a car that can deliver. I think on dry track 90-95% is the car, rest is driver. On wet tracks perhaps 50/50.
its all bullshit mate, Max got a free tyre change and ended up in the podium next to Ocon and Gasly. Max sucks, period. He is yet to reach a single podium without GP a wining car. At most he is the new Vettel (We all know now how Vettel sucks.... still won races with Toro Rosso). All the other champions made it to the podium with mid grid cars and most of them won races with such slow cars, Max simply cant. It has been nearly 10 years for him in F1 and yet he cant reach podiums with slower cars. It s not Max who's great but the rest of the grid that sucks. You want legends you should go back in time and watch Fangio, Clark, Moss, Gilles and Ayrton. Max whooo??? A guy who had a higher crash ratio than Maldonado by the time they had their first F1 win, and wasn't demoted only because of Papa Jos and his uncle Marko??? give me a break
1 good race ?, this dude breaking all the records there are you clown. Its hard to swallow right? Wel you must have a hard time the last couole of years haha. He stops after winning 8 titles.

Luckily for him 2 yellow cards or time penalties doesn't mean a red card (black flag) in F1 and he knows that too. I doubt it was emotions, rather calculated.
Franco also did quite well in Singapore !
Lando is lazy and distracted. His arrogance blinds him to his deficiencies I would say. Spends too much time as a celebrity and Hot Lad.
I don't think piastri lacks pace, it's just poor execution, when's able a hook clean lap together it's only within a tenth, sometimes abit faster.
'dominated a bit more' in 2023? That was more like more dominant than ever before.
The thing I see with Max is that he drives every lap like it's the final lap of 2021. There is no give, ever
Im being humble yes it was a demolition
In my opinion max is better than Hamilton. If you look at Perez vs bottas even if you say there equal. Max dominates checo. Lewis had tracks where in the same car bottas was there taking wins. Max I'm never expecting checo to win anything over Max. Max has had the 2nd or 3rd best car and is still on points or more than the teams with clearly a better car.
Not a fair comparison. These cars are a different and we never know how the cars are like e.g last race Perez didn’t have all the latest upgrades and hasn’t since Baku.
@@mstar011 Perez can have all the upgrades and still won't be on a podium dude. Lol the only upgrade red bull need is to upgrade checo with someone else lmao
@@mstar011 you realize I'm speaking overall. And we all know the red bull isn't the dominant car over the past 7 rounds because if it was max would have been 20+ seconds ahead of every one. Meanwhile lando can't make it past turn 1 in 1st. Lewis had a weak team mate. In a dominant car and still wasn't dominating the way max has been able to.
it is actually easy. when you have a championship winning car any driver can win a championship, but legends break records with the car in that season, that is what separates a good driver with a legendary one.
How about lando - some say he has the champion car right now. How do you respond
I guess i mean "its actually easy when you have a championship winning car any driver can win " how do you reflect on this - i believe mclaren have the best car in 2024.
@@lowerlaptime once you have the best car, any F1 driver has the possibility to win. that is what i meant. and mclaren has the best car since miami. however the races before that redbulll had the fastest car. and look what max did with it. you see the difference now? that is the difference between a legend and a maybe champion.
@@elecovanrenss1352 got it thanks 😊
I would place him as "one of the greatest". There is no single one because there are different era's, different opponents, cars, tracks and so on. The biggest thing Lando is missing is the "hard core killer instinct". Your skill is one thing but your mind is another and to be the best you have to have the mental strength. People like Lewis and Max often deliver their best when things are against them (we have seen that so often). Leclerc has this also but not as much as Lewis and Max. And who doesn't love V10... the best sounding car of all time.

Thanks so much!
Thanks so much for answering my question 😊 Very insightful (as always) ❤
No worries was a great question did i answer it ok?
@ Of course! Many of the elements you mentioned (e.g., critical thinking, logic, etc) are something I always believed could apply to anything (business, life) and I feel that your answer was applicable beyond the realm of just F1. I resonated a lot too 👍🏻 Thanks!!
Biggest problem with one lap qualifying is that track evolution has an overly strong effect on the outcome.
If that can be negated somehow then yes, one lap qualifying should come back.
True but that is still a thing now, and, it wont always go one way, ie go faster. Track can start cooling off, heating up, rain can come, or rain can go
Weather is a part of all sports! Bring it on 😅 Also 1 lap per car isn't significant rubbering in to be honest.
Great Q&A Bro!
Thanks 🙏
Really enjoyed this
Is he the goat?
2x a 4th place is what Max had in his first season with _Torro Rosso_ in 2015.
3 FIA awards on his rookie season. Let's see how good they are then.
Thanks.
What about goatifi
A one lap qualifying would be amazing
As a Dutchman I would be expected to say yes, but I don't feel right about that......To compare between different era's, different tracks, different cars and different circumstances I feel it is impossible to establish who is "the GOAT". In my opinion it suffices to call him one of the GOATS, together with Lewis, Schumacher, Senna en maybe some guys before that, which I cannot judge.
But for sure he is one of the best ever to compete in F1....
And it's too early to say if he is one of the greats. After he stops at driving F1 we can decide is he one of them. Ga er wel van uit.
@@daphnelovesL He's only 27 give him a car that can win a championship and he might retire with 14 championships to leave no doubt. But to be honest i don't think he will stick around for another 10 years unlike Hamilton. And i don't think anyone should take that many championships as the fans of other drivers would give up watching and that would be the end of f1. No one likes dominance of 1 driver but alaz it happens in the F1...
@@randar1969 Je snapt het niet/ you don't get it. He will one of the best after he stops at F1, not when he is still driving it. Now he is one of the best but yet not the Best.
@@daphnelovesL I don't think you can define anyone as the best.....Looking at the 50's and 60's where every year one or more drivers would get killed every season by the absolute lack of safety.....Senna only had two titles, but is still considered by many as the greatest.....It is the same in football....you cannot compare between complete different era's in my opinion.....Nowadays you have to be consistent over 24 GP's.....in the 50's you had to stay alive to become WDC during 8 or 10 GP's .....you just cannot compare it....

31:20 is exactly what I’m thinking. All of these new drivers have done f’all in F1 cars in F1 races. You can’t learn much about them before they’ve completed a quarter of the season and many haven’t started a single F1 race.
Max is already the boat, but if he wins a WDC in a different team, he will be the goat.
Why was Fangio not considered as one of the greatest as he was a 5 time world champion, won more than 50% of his races and won championships with 4 different Scudderias ? Is it because you were talking about the modern era post 1990s ?
To be fair , most modern drivers would be much more capable than Fangio
Honestly its a good question. I'm not into the details of his titles and how he got them. Work for me. Can you shed some light on why he would be in the discussion? Eg I dont put Seb in even though he had 4 titles
@@A2906-o8q that is just a rude comment...I know it is because old times..but You cant measure talent and...watch Fangio one time taking a corner. then write this.Or watch Leclerc trying to drive Gilles' s Ferrari ...
@oktayyilmaz5134 I mean it with no disrespect to the legends, the sport has evolved and so has the training and recruiting of driver's
@@A2906-o8q what about car development and danger decrease?
Just subscribed. 😊 I love watching F1 races. I live in the Philippines and I am able to watch each race live. My fave driver is Max. I just love it when you mentioned: ..."if Max jumped in the McLaren he'll just find more front grip so he'll just keep doing the same stuff and he'll even be quicker..." So it is not luck. It's TALENT!!! ❤
Agreed, talent shines through in all the right places! 👏 Thanks!
Ill have to check it out
Yes….yes he is
I don't know why this is difficult for some F1 fans to admit that Max Verstappen is the best driver in the history of the sport.
@@marcelochechik you're right about perception. Critical thinking like i said in the video right! 😀🙏🏻☝️
So much recency bias in the comments 😂 no hate to max but this bias is too much people all of a sudden are max greater than lewis 😂
Lewis is really exaggerated driver...Really:)
You would be hard pressed to find something a driver in the past had that was superior to Max. What I mean by that is if you take every aspect of racing in consideration, trying to find someone who does that aspect better than Max is a difficult task. He is 27 years old
Agree!!
One lap qualy was a golden time real drivers show their bottle
Was sick ay
Cheers thanks!! Are you also from AU
There can be only one!!!🤣🤣🤣
Fantastic video. Good job. I gather from your comments that Max is as close to perfect as ever. Mental, tactical, tire management, and line - but the cars are converging and Hamilton is going to get a good car in 2025. 2025 is going to be great to watch. I think Leclerc has potential to be in Max domain too.
Did Max actually lose points with head loss in Mexico? Seems like he prevented Lando from winning which if you look at it that way benefitted Max.
I think he did im not Lando "just wins easily" with Carlos managing
I wonder how any new driver would also handle the new regs in 2026
He who adapts survives
How do you apply that logic to Senna though. Not saying I disagree just curious
50/50 in the wet? Those Alpine cars are really good! Fool.
its all bullshit mate, Max got a free tyre change and ended up in the podium next to Ocon and Gasly.
Mate... 😄🤦 Come on - you're better than that comment
Troll
Did you get a hard pecker typing that?
Jeez he has 1 good race, got gifted a red flag and we all think he is the greatest ever? Come on get a grip.
1 good race.. 4x wdc with 1 good race. No talent, only luck right ? Pfff. You must be trolling.
1 good race ?, this dude breaking all the records there are you clown. Its hard to swallow right? Wel you must have a hard time the last couole of years haha. He stops after winning 8 titles.
He won 10 staight races and beat win number and percentage records when he had the best car, he also won WDC and will win another WDC with 2nd and 3rd best car.
The problem is the “greatest of all time” discussion, is there an actual necesity out there to be a Greatest of all time? I find the discussion very annoying.
Bro, does it hurt so much? Get a grip mate
