Your music is setup for After Dark. What is the Parent Control set at? Ha! Ha! Ha! Nice video! I enjoyed watching. Thank you for sharing! I just gave away my Common (Pleco) Plecostomus, because it knocked down all my plants and was just too big for my setup. I’m sticking to Otocinclus and small Cory’s as my fish clean up crew. Your fish and aquarium are beautiful!
Really enjoyed this one. I will say the Snail Stixx "feel" so expensive to feed. I'm sure the are much higher quality for snail than many of the other foods on the market, so I'll feed this container full and see how the results are.
I've been contemplating what I call a orange themed heavy planted setup in one of my 55". Super red and L10a on the bottom. Koi angelfish as a showpiece (pair or more) and koi swordtails. (not the kohakus).
Hey, how's it going? This is Jeff from Wenatchee. Next week I'm setting up a new 20G long, and already have 2 plecos for it. I have a Super Red BN Male, and a long fin Albino female BN. Debating if I just want to keep it just them, or have something else in there with them, either shrimp or something like Neons, etc. Thoughts? Yes, it will be planted. I only do planted.
Great filming and your awesome body / processor is so crisp and vivid with the dark tones! I have a big ol group of ancistrus (actually 3 clutches 1. L144 Lemon Pleco that looks identical to these! 2. Ancistrus super red longfins that were orangish red, but are turning mottled tan more and more. 3. Some long fin Lemon Blue eyes.). I was told that lemons are a mix of ancistrus and another fish (pleco) species if you trace their line to the 1990s. Do you know what makes the difference between a light red or golden (like yours) and a blood red/salmon red, is? As in are these a strain, a wild drrain kr s hybrid species?
The lemons and all common bristlenose (Ancistrus cf. cirrhosus) are as far as we know all the same species, they are possibly a hybrid that was then selectively bred to produce a lot of variants. There is no proof their a hybrid and genetic tests are really expensive so no one has studied them yet. The Ancistrus sp. 'L144' was a one off import from Paraguay, the blue eyed bristlenose it is some times called. If you look at the actual fish listed under that L number it is very different to those fish missold as A. sp. 'L144' and a lot more tanned in appearance with melanin, it is probably a xanthism variant of one of the many Ancistrus in the area. Although the one off import only contained one male which then died, those fish sold as this L number are not being correctly listed and are in fact a variant of the common bristlenose, Ancistrus cf. cirrhosus. The super reds I believe originate from calicos so it is possible they are developing that calico colouration later on. All the common bristlenoses in the trade are captive bred, most likely farmed. There are many species both described and undescribed in the hobby within the genus Ancistrus as it's a massive genus, but they can have vastly different requirements and appearances.
@@FreshwaterIchthyology thanks for the background! Great info, and i wonder if they exist as a phenotype in some region in the wild and thus were given an L# ?
@@Fishtory They might still exist in the wild but most likely the wild-type. There isn't much way of knowing the actual original species without comparing the DNA. L numbers are quite easily given and a lot of described species have multiple L numbers even, their not really reliable but people stick to them. Personally I do think the use of purely the L number is quite unhelpful as someone training in ichthyology, wherever I've worked we don't use the L number system in regards to Loricariidae, their either listed as sp. meaning undescribed or under their scientific name but some scientists will use the L number when a species is not described.
very nice birstle noses. I had to recently swap out my BN pleco since he was getting too aggressive with my corydoras. Have you ever kept them successfully in a community with other bottom feeders? OR do they do best as the only bottom feeders in a tank?
They look great I would love to have a few of those . Quick question is the super red bristle the same as a albino bristle nose or is it a dif variety of that species?

My 6.5 year old LF albino ancistrus died today. Between Greg Sage's Green Phantom video today and this video, I feel a little bit better. Thanks!

Pretty cool little dudes, I’ve thought of getting some. 🤘
Don't they look just like my yellow L144 blue eyes?!
What is the depth of your 240? From front to back

How old do they get before they start producing their appendages. my albino is about the same size as urs.
Really interesting vid! Well put together, informational and gives us plenty to think about :9)

Love the instrumental videos. Music source? Also, reliable source for that pogostemon erectus?

Different variety of the same species.
I can see the regret on your face with that intro
