Can you guys do a video on interfacing with a fusible interface so that the inside and outside are fused together nicely? And how to choose the right ones to use?

Hi April, we don’t use fusible interfacing to fuse the shirt fabric and lining fabric together. We do use fusible interfacing for parts like facings, zipper areas, or at seams to strengthen the stitches and prevent fraying.

@@XiongSeams oh I see. I've seen different garments with inner lining that's fused throughout it to give it some weight and aesthetics so I'm not sure if that was the same thing. Do you know how sewers are able to achieve that so you don't have to cut a separate inner lining?

From our experience, you should use a separate lining but some sewists from Laos will skip the lining altogether and use a light to mid weight iron on interfacing to iron onto the shirt fabric to cover the edges to prevent fraying. It does give the material weight but it’s not a method to use if you’d like a better quality outfit. To do it, lay your fabric flat on an ironing board, then place the interfacing on top and spray with water from the iron, then iron the fusible interfacing to the fabric. Rough side of the interfacing should be down on the backside of your shirt fabric. This will glue the interfacing to the shirt fabric. You can then use your shirt fabric without any lining and it should help to prevent edges from fraying. You should still use a serger or zig zag stitch to help prevent fraying.

@@XiongSeams thank you for taking the time to explain it. I'm still new to sewing and learning as much as I can. :)

Thank you for the video! What do people use to insert inside the sev to make it sturdy so it its not flappy too much when you wear it?

You can use a light to mid weight iron-on interfacing to stiffen the fabric before you sew the pieces together. It also helps with the sewing because the fabric is no longer soft or slippery, making it easier to work with. We did not use any in this video but it is an option if you prefer a thicker sturdier sev :)

Hello! 2.5 yards black should be more than enough and 1.25 blue if you want a long length sev.
