    Really appreciate this video. I've felt this way about myself during the last couple years of my running journey, I started to allow myself to feel whatever emotion comes up during my runs. It created a space for me to process and release so many suppressed emotions from past parts of my life, helping me understand myself more and learn self compassion. I reconnected with my body in ways I never have before. Running helped me heal in ways I never could have expected. Thank you for making this video and sharing your art. I appreciate you helping me understand it more.

    I started running 56 years ago. I can't begin to count the number of times I have been called crazy for being a runner. The mental, emotional and physical benefits of running are absolutely priceless. I have also been privileged to be a coach of runners for many years. I try to get kids to experience the positive benefits of running and teach that it is okay to be uncomfortable. It seems most people never want to get out of their comfort zone and so they think people that are good with that are crazy. Life itself is uncomfortable. Those of us who seek discomfort in running are much more likely to be successful at life. I'm thankful every day that a coach long, long ago convinced to run track. I don't know where I would be today without running. At 71 years of age, I will keep doing it as long as I possibly can.

    Thank you for sharing! I agree with you, running is the only sport that touches your mind, body , soul & spirit at least for me. The solitude it brings is priceless.

    Earlier this year I crested a saddle and had an awesome view of the peak I was running towards and the valley behind it. I was so confused when I burst into tears at the sight, but this makes me understand it a lot more! Awesome video as always.
    The trail was Box Elder Peak via Dry Creek in Highland.

    When people say an activity is to escape demons, it's too much of a trope... To adhere to that simplistic view would necessitate putting drug addiction /running /alcoholism /hiking /gambling /powerlifting and eating disorders into the same bucket x This is a very good video and I totally agree.. That feeling when you run is unique, be it pain cave or runner high.. Its magical, I am not sure if I need to escape anything at this point in my life but I sure want to embrace feeling fully alive 🎉

    I agree with you, except I don't think it is just runners. I think it is all endurance athletes share the traits you mention. I am an endurance runner, mountain biker, trail runner, cyclist, backpacker, skier, etc., so I say from my experience in all these endeavors, the feelings are quite similar and aren't exclusive to running. My two cents.

    I’m sure that there are people who run because of their demons but maybe I’m more unusual in that I run just for the pleasure of running 🤷‍♂️ the connecting of feet and ground for a given period of time is pure joy (and pain 😅) if anything, for me it’s connecting to human ancestry who would have run as a matter of life and death, something a lot of human beings (myself included) don’t have to think about🤩👍🏃‍♂️

  • @KelpandFern

    Not what is wrong with runners, but rather, what is wrong with the system we have created to think there is something wrong with endurance trail, mountain and ultra-runners. To be in nature for a few hours is natural, we come from it.... It may only be perceived as different because the majority don't, but being a majority does not mean they are correct, it only means more people think a certain way.

    • @JustAnotherRunner
      @JustAnotherRunner  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      YES. What is "wrong" can be subjective. We are only "wrong" because the system tries to tell us we aren't meant to run.

    I agree/disagree. As you mentioned as well, there are many different kinds of people who run. Of course, some of them will run to process stuff, others, just enjoy the run. There is nothing wrong with runners. Some, I would argue most, just enjoy the run.
    On the other hand, doesn't everybody have something wrong with them? Saying that people who run have something wrong with them, is about the same as saying that people who run drink water. Every has something wrong with them, everybody drinks water. Correlation does not imply causation.

      Sometimes the demons are so deep we don't even know we have them. We are all a little crazy. Runners and non-runners. Either way, I'm glad you're running to stay healthy!

  • @quengmingmeow
    @quengmingmeow 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Everyone has demons to different degrees. Some chase their demons by eating. Some by being reclusive. Some by drugs and alcohol. Some do it through faith. Why would being a runner be “crazy” but someone that’s eating themselves to death isn’t?
    Some of the “crazy” reputation comes from runners themselves because we enjoy this idea that we’re unique in doing what others don’t. It’s a way for us to brag by allowing others to brag for us. We need to stop this. Anytime I hear the “crazy” remark from someone, I take the time to explain the “why” and the reason I want every person to be a runner and unlock the clam, deep satisfaction that awaits. No…..it’s not crazy at all. It’s the preferred mental way to be.
    If more people in the world are insane than there are sane people, do the insane become the sane, and the sane the insane? Running is truth…….

    I'm a runner, who has been saved from the burden of my sins... saved by Jesus Christ, i have found eternal hope in Him. my soul is free from torment, i.e. "fighting demons". I admit that running has helped me a lot mentally, but running aids till a certain degree so not completely. On the other, Jesus? He does all... He heals, frees, restores and renews completely. Call on His name, He will answer. Believe in Him and what He did on the cross for you and He will save you and give you His righteousness. Repent and believe because He loves you so much.
