Watched A Good Woman the other week and watching Scarlet Johannsen's character getting drunk on champagne whilst drinking from a beautiul coupe fascinated me..so I searched for champagne coupes, bought some. Bought some champagne flutes ages ago too and bugger me, I now need a big brandy glass. Shall consider purchasing her book still.Interesting.
Pfft, the texture bubbles add to the mouthfeel is interesting and can be quite nice and they certainly do make it easier to pick up all the different nuances of the wine on the nose as you smell it but ultimately they really are for show. If you ever actually go to Champagne and have a meal with the Champenois you will often see them not only drinking the wine out of standard wine glasses for most of the meal but actually taking most of the wine and decanting it well ahead of the meal so the bubbles disappate completely! Having a taste of champagne out of a fluted glass at first to experience the character the bubbles add is fun and an opening part of the meal but it's really about the flavour and quality of the wine itself and how well it pairs with the food. As long as you have decent quality wine glasses that are clean you are good to go!

Its shape will unfold complex aromas and sustain the "bubble engine" of the sparkling wine. There's a handmade option but the machine made is less expensive. You can also use it for red, white and rosé wine. Cheers! 🥂✨

Now I know what to look for when I buy glasses; just curious if this works for beer and other carbonated drinks as well.
