Sig Sauer P226 Enhanced Elite - Review, Field Strip, Range Test

- Since 1984 the Sig Sauer P226 has been a standard in full size, all metal, handguns. Over the years it has gone through refinements that culminate in the P226 Enhanced Elite. With it's superior ergonomic, one piece grip, it's enhanced trigger package including a shorter reset, this pistol truly excels as a battle proven semi-automatic pistol.
The military designated MK25 version was adopted by the U.S. Navy Seal Team and is still the standard sidearm of that branch of special forces. For nearly 30 years Sig Sauer has been producing this fine handgun and its variants.
We review, field strip, and range test this marvelous pistol and show why it's still one of the finest pistols in anyones arsenal.

It was my privilege to testify at the hearings. I appreciate your support. Keep fighting the good fight!
i have been a Sig fan for some time now and own a couple of them, I have been looking at the Enhanced Elite and your video has sold me so I will be off to the gun store thanks so much for your time and trouble in making this great video.
The Sig Sauer P226 Enhanced Elite is one of my favorite handguns! Thanks for watching!
My buddy picked this up as a tribute/memorial to his grandfather who recently passed away. $1600 is wuite a bit for a hand gun but after shooting it, I can say that its a very nice piece and would pick one up if i had the money.
thank you for your time, your commitment and your diligence.
O ya great review on P226 - Now i want one .
Thanks
Mecgar makes sigs factory magazines. Most from factory will say mecgar on them. Incase anybody was wondering or didnt know. So buying Mecgar mags for your siggies should make you feel right at home. Man you do such a great job on your vids. I look forward to them all the time.. Take care bud.
I used your vid as part of my extensive research for my next pistol purchase. I ended up purchasing the exact same pistol -- Enhanced Elite two weeks ago. I had all the same grip size issues that you did. This model solved every issue that had kept me from purchasing a Sig in the past. The balance, fit and finish and accuracy are superb. Great vid. Have missed your vids lately. Yours are always extremely informative and high quality. Looking forward to more videos as life permits. Keep up the great work. As a P.S. - thank you for all you do in support of our Second Amendment rights on the Hill.
Noel, glad the vid helped. The more I shoot the Sig, the more I understand the allure. It's a fantastic pistol. I also appreciate the props for the advocacy. I'm passionate about keeping 2nd amendment rights from eroding further. Yeah, life has really gotten in the way of video production. I'm finishing up a video on my AR15 300 Blackout build. Stay tuned!
Simple and informative video. You have a new sub!
Thanks!
Very nice Mr Crucible Arms you might look at adding a (SIG SAUER® Black Short Trigger) it makes a huge improvement to this firearm. I bought the Sig Sauer P226 BTFO version in S&W .40 and added the SRT trigger to mine. Thanks for your review you and your son do a great job..
My buddy just bought a P229 Elite, its a sweet shooter.
must be nice to live in a free state. i just purchased a p229 enhanced elite that came with 10 round mags. the enhanced elite is one of the very few premium sigs available in cali.
Thanks so much. I appreciate your watching.
Kevin, Thanks for your calm and professional testimony in St. Paul the other day. Us lgun people need all the help we can get.
nice vid, love the review, but i felt that you were using to much cutting on the video, i love your early vids on when you are in front of the window, still, awesome review and informational vid. Love your channel.
I had an early P226 that I purchased back in 85. The newer versions that I've played with seem to have a much nicer trigger than I remeber my copy having. Just another of the many guns that I wish I still had. If the price of the P226 and other Sig all metal varients seems steep to you then look at the 2022 with polymer frame. Still very much a Sig in all respects and under $500.
Great vid! Canadian special forces ( JTF2 and CSOR) both use the Sig P226 as well. I will be purchasing this exact model. But up here in the province of Ontario we are limited to pinned 10 round mags. Again, nice shooting and great vid!
They are afraid you may accidently shoot up the bad guys too much!
Your intro says it all. Must admire Sig's overall finish and worksmanship, but been unable to shoot well with one, so old P226 struck off the shopping list...for now.
You definitely shot tighter groups with this pistol over the others I have seen you shoot, any comment?
I have good days and not so good days. I do find the Sig a dream to shoot.
Great review CrecibleArms. They are expensive, but in my opinion, well worth it. I have the MK25 version and I absolutely love it
I'm in Minnesota. I'm an FFL dealer and ordered it from one of my distributors.
yea i saw the vid.. i perhaps missed the model make n all that lol...the beretta greatly resembles the 96d ( at least at first glance)...and i really enjoyed the vid man...2 thumbs up sir :)
I agree with you on this sig. I would prefer it in stainless but that's just me. I'd also have to make up my mind on the barrel as the 40 and 357 can be switched out but the 9 is a 9 and won't take another barrel ... I believe. I also want the 220 stainless elite and maybe even the Match. I would not carry it in town but out on the ranch it would be perfect. I'm tired of polymer guns and striker fired. DA/SA just floats my boat these days.
You forgot to talk about the SRT trigger! That single action break and reset is sublime and may be the real selling point of the pistol.
Got mine last week. Money well spent.
Appreciate your videos!
I have to agree. I've got a CZ75 SP-01 Shadow Target from Angus Hobdell's Ghost Products Custom Shop. There is no comparison between a truly custom trigger job vs. anything stock. I've done a video review of the CZ if you're interested.
@ 5:20 the preferred manner to remove the slide when the gun has the SRT is to depress the decocker as you bring the slide forward (simultaneously).
I deeply regret getting rid of my 1989 west Germany p220 :( want to get another p220 or p226 in 40. Thanks for your videos the froglube vid helped me out a lot !
Definitly want this gun. This one and the P227 though if I got the 45 I probably wouldn't want the beaver tail. However do want it with this one.
I totally did. My bad. The quick story is it's a very short, crisp reset. The trigger package on this pistol is really great. I really screwed up on that one.
good review
thanks
I just bought sig mk25
I have 3 sig 1911s.. this one is on my list for summer time purchase..
I'm unaware of any issues with the Sig P226 that isn't shared by all manufacturers.
Interested? HAHAHAHAHA!
Your video was the reason I bought that specific firearm.
I gave you big respect on the video and asked you to make more. I asked you if you were a professional speaker.
YOU sold me that gun. I spoke with Rob at CZ custom and we decided I wouldn't need the adjustable sights.
In a way, I wish I hadn't bought my CZ 75 dual-tone, because after shooting my Shadow custom, I never shoot it and I'll either sell it or send it to Mesa to get a trigger job and new sights.
The more I've shot it, the more I'm appreciating it. They're still expensive but there isn't any arguing the quality. Thanks for watching!
i sure will. thank you
I've got the Tac ops, very similar. It was my favorite gun until I bought my Sp-01 shadow custom. The trigger on the sig is one of the best out of the box but a custom trigger job from Mesa is the dogs bullocks.
Great job on the vid sans the SRT lol.
Love the channel. Keep up the good work! I'd love to see a follow up in the future like you did with the SR1911
I had them convert my custom to SAO and I LOOOOOOOOVE it!!!!
For the most part I think you get what you pay for. When I took my CCW class that was an FBI agent in the class and I asked him what was the best pistol. Without hesitation he told me Sig Sauer.
Nice review . I am waiting for my Christmas bonus to get this gun . 👍👍👍 New subscriber .
Great review. Very helpful. Thanks.
Love the Sig P227.
Great review. I really like the looks of the P226.
very nice review, and good talking points. thank you!
Well You just told me to a search on decocking.! I was hoping you would demonstrate how to do it. Because I really like the way you explain things You teach really good. Thanks anyway
Nice pistol...great review as always.
Thanks for the review. I do disagree with you on the value aspect though. No pistol that is less expensive will rival the P226 performance wise. In certain aspects maybe, but IMO, certainly not in the areas of durability, accuracy, and shootability. I've owned many guns, and to me the Sigs felt like the highest quality aside from some 1911s. Sigs cost more bc it costs more to make them.
I purchased it from one of my distributors prior to everything going away.
just picked up an MK25 last week!
That was simply an excellent video.
Rather than answer your CZ questions in the comments section of my Sig Sauer video, I've PM'd you with the answers.
I've been trying to buy a 9mm conversion kit for my P226........nowhere to be found. Since I have other 9mm's I bought the Sig in 22LR thinking I would get the conversion sometime later. Might turn out to be a mistake. I can get the Navy Sig Elite but I don't want to have to buy a gun that I basically already own. Come to think of it, I can't even find 22LR anymore!! Looks like I'm just going to have to put it in storage and just look at it from time to time.
Excellent Video! was wondering about your thoughts on the Stoeger Cougar .40?
Your videos are always good, good taste in firearms as well :p
Yup.
Great video, well spoken!
Thanks!
Nicely done!
Hey Juan, if you watch my videos you'll see that all firearms are safety checked prior to rolling the cameras. I do it again during the video not only to demonstrate good habits but to assure my viewers that it's been done. It's a no win situation. I don't do it on camera and people get "wound". I do it on camera and I get morons like you leaving useless comments. Nothing to see here. Move along.
I got the same gun, minus the goofy beaver tail plus a threaded barrel for 850
Actually, that's not correct. They both come with either a safety or a decocker. Now that you've clarified your question the answer is follow the basic firearm safety rules, hold the hammer back with either the thumb on your dominant hand or between the thumb and forefinger of your alternate hand and depress the trigger. Gently lower the hammer into place. It's pretty simple. I own the CZ 75 SP-01 Shadow Target with the safety. I decock it all the time in the way I just described.
Primarily Burnsville Rifle & Pistol and the Minnesota Horse & Hunt Club.
A great vid as always but don't understand your comment that there are other handguns that rival the P226 in EVERY aspect.. Please give me one example of this particular pistol you are talking about - and don't include pricing into your evaluation...If people can afford the best, they should buy the best...Sig's rule...HANDS DOWN!!!
P.S. do not even mention HK's.
I'm not going to even try to argue with a fanboy such as you! LOL. Thanks for watching my friend.
CrucibleArms I still haven't heard of one pistol that you have mentioned as being superior in EVERY way. And yes, I am a "fanboy" -spill the beans, and give me your picks...LOL!!!!! And I will be more than happy to debate. LOL again!
Philip Beal I made no claim that there are other pistols that are "superior in EVERY way". Those are your words not mine. There is no singularily superior pistol. Sorry, not getting baited into an argument with you. The P226 enhanced elite is a great pistol. There are many great pistols out there thank goodness.
CrucibleArms Well, I did make one mistake in using the word "superior". However, if you go to the 10:16 mark of your vid you state " there are a lot of pistols that will RIVAL this in every way". IMO, that denotes superiority in every way. Also, I will agree with you that there are many fine pistols, as well as revolvers out there that are a fraction the cost of the Sigs. As you can tell, I am a Sig owner, but I own other fine hand guns as well that function just as well, but might not have the fit and finish of my Sigs. Also, my Sigs are my only pistols that have full length rails - A plus in my opinion. Have a great day!
Philip Beal Philip, check out CZ. The 75B has full length, inverted rails. Lowers the bore axis. I have the CZ SP-01 Shadow Target out of Angus Hobdell's Custom Shop. It's my competition pistol, race gun. Here's the vid:
th-cam.com/video/PBWf6Swdwt4/w-d-xo.html
By the way, check your dictionary. Rival and Superior have very different definitions. ;-)
He picked up the Stainless with Rosewood grips. BTW
great review! do you happen to know if the reg p226 dark elite come with a stainless steel guide rod?
great gun getting one soon in 40
Excelent video sir!!! But now please tell me!! If you had to choose between this model of sig and the CZ 75 sp 01 shadow? Which one would you use and why? Which one has better trigger and less recoil!!! ?????
If you want an everyday service pistol, bedside gun, home defense, go with the Sig. If you want a target shooter that can double in those other roles go with the CZ. Muzzle flip and recoil is very manageable on both. The triggers are both excellent. If you go with the "target" version of the CZ the trigger is superb! It's built for competition.
CrucibleArms Thank you for your quick response,!! I am a rookie shooter.. So, I will turn to CZ... In Greece you are not allowed to carry a handgun, only sport shooters are allowed to have a gun at home and use it on the range.. Obviously we still live as slaves in Greece even after the second world war is over.. THANK YOU AGAIN FOR YOUR QUICK REPLY... I WILL BE WAITING FOR MY CZ!!!
what state are you from CrucibleArms? I've been looking for that particular model of P226 for a month now.
Excellent review in every way. Glad I subscribed, Semper Fi.
sorry I was not Clear. I wanted to know how to decock a pistol like Cz 75-b or Cz 75 SP-01. Thanks
Nope, Beretta 92FS. Did you watch the video?
Love your reviews, keep it up.
Good
It's a PACKAGE he was REALLY excited to get his hands on... XD
Is that the same as the tacops except for the magwell and 20 round mags? And different grips e2
It's really simple Joe. Follow the basic firearm safety rules and push down on the decocker with your thumb. That's it.
I've never fired that Sig but in appearance the grips look very similar to my EAA Witness Classic.
Some misinformation in here. The Enhanced Elite has a SIG rail. The MK25 has the Picatinny.
I was requesting a video. It is better to see it done than read how to do it, for me at least. For people who are doing it first time it can get pretty scary. I want the hammer down all the way not half cocked..The CZ decocker, decocks the hammer only half the way.
My other question is - I would like to fire in double action every time. I wonder if CZ 75-b or sp-01 double action trigger lb can be lowered.
Thanks so much.
hey Crucible...is that the BEretta 96d ??
The more I shoot it, the more I like it.
Aluminum body by the way.
SHOW HOW TO FULLY DECOCK A PISTOL SAFELY
What range do you go to shoot at?
You forgot the trigger reset!
I intend no disrespect, but most cops, FBI/DEA special agents are not gun enthusiasts and a firearm represents a very minute consideration of their daily job duties. I say this only because you've noted that the man was with the FBI as if his opinion should carry more weight than anyone else's.
Does he hold a designation that would suggest he's a firearm expert?
All decockers work pretty much the same. Follow the basic firearm safety rules and push down on the decocker with your thumb. That's it.
come on you know CZ75-b and sp-01 come with safety but no decocker
can I enhance my none elite p226
What other pistols do you feel that rival the Sig? I am thinking about buying one.
+Ron P I like a lot of pistols for different reasons. It's very hard to pick others that "rival" the Sig. All have their strong and weak points. I can say you will not go wrong with a Sig Sauer P226.
I own and like a lot of pistols too. I have been curious about getting a P226 extreme or a P220 equinox. I have glocks, M&P, and XD's but would love to obtained one more pistol.
+Ron P The Enhanced Elite has everything I want. More comfortable grip for my hand, short reset trigger. Thanks for watching!
Love the channel!! I have enjoyed your videos and respect your opinion. I am thinking about getting my channel but do not know how to start.
Yes there are others that do rival SIG ... HK for one.... but SIG does maintain supremacy. Its very nice to know, though SIG is King of the Hill, that the Hill itself is very well made of a batch of ultra fine Guns.....Walther.. surely CZ's ...Beretta, Ruger's .. Springfields ... S&W's.... Glock... quality 1911's and so on. (not necessarily in this rank order) Take your pick... mine is and will remain the SIG .
Very close, I can shoot both all day without fatigue.
I mean P226.
Unfortunately, there are forces at work here in the US that are doing there best to erode our 2nd amendment rights. We, the law abiding citizen firearm owners of this country want as much, maybe more, than anyone to reduce gun violence. However, stripping the rights of the citizens isn't the effective means needed to reduce our already plummeting rate of gun crime. Yes, it's decreasing significantly. You would not now that listening to the media.
Sometimes the only difference between a $1000 pistol and a $600 pistol...... is 400 dollars.
Thanks for the informative review. Sadly, your channel is the only way for me to see such pieces; the UK is a horrible place to live for fans of guns.
It must be nice feeling so much safer given all the gun control legislation you have to follow in California. (I'm being sarcastic). Enjoy the pistol! It's honey!!
