Back in 2013, this is one the first reverse isekai in anime and LN and pretty much overlooked by Japanese viewers while outside of Japan foreign fans for years want Season 2 but with no luck. Like, back then isekai and fantasy setting was never a thing in Japan and it took them 10 years to finally make season 2 when isekai and fantasy is a hot thing.
Truly underrated story. A reverse Isekai before it was popular, perfectly mixed comedy and drama, it also had great action sequences despite not having that many. A really interesting take on the typical Hero v Demon Lord story and it even gets more interesting later on. Sucks that the anime ended when things were about to get even better and sucks that it hasn't gotten a 2nd Season yet. Hopefuly someday it airs, rumours of a 2nd Season have been around since years and the story has gained a loyal cult following since. EDIT: I take this back, after that novel ending I hope this never gets a 2nd season. EDIT: Season 2 just got announced after all this years and after the dumpster that was the LN last couple of volumes and ending. At least we know Season 2 will animate the GOOD volumes, before the story grows into what it became, but I have a feeling Season 2 might end up adding more wood to the fire once more people/new fans find out about the ending. Ignoring the last couple of volumes and the ending. Not really hyped after the LN ended but at least we'll get to see some really cool stuff animated.
You know, I really hope it does, so many things left unfinished, for example in the op Emi can use angel wings to fly, her angel nature hasn't really been explored much. Maybe one day we can get it.

This show literally has the perfect mix of seriousness and comedy. The first ten seconds of the theme song are literally the best part, it conveys such a flow in the music and introduction that I get goosebumps cause I always thinks some epic battle is about to unfold. The way the colors in the background are, for both religious figures, is just incredible and fits in flawlessly and for an anime that came out a year ago it is so good. All the reactions and dialogue don't feel like I've heard it a thousand times before either. I definitely hope they give this another season, because this has been more interesting since Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. It feels like it's not trying to be solely a comedy either, just has an adequate emphasis on it is all. But I'm certain the story it tells will unfold well if it can continue, because I have not once cringed at this show for doing something over-anime styled, nor has it at all grown boring. And I'm not even halfway done with the first season either. PS: It came out on Netflix five days ago sit your ass down and watch this now if you know what's good for ya.
@@seemapadwal6258 Not by White Fox or the same director, though. Emi's anger will always be unrivaled aesthetically from the first season, alongside the sakuga. On the bright side, 3Hz is a very competent studio, so I trust they won't do a bad job either. But, White Fox did exemplementory work with the art style and keyframing, so 3Hz certainly has a lot on their plate to try and be comparable. They will do a noticeably better job than J.C. Staff did with One Punch Man for sure, though.

This is so nostalgic, when I watched this anime back in 2016 (6 years ago) I enjoyed it a lot. But when it ended I felt this depressing vibe for a couple of days. I’m glad there’s a season 2 coming, I can’t wait for it! 😌

Love this opening, but..... Can I point something out? At 1:24 - If you listen very closely to the background, there is some kind of "fart" noise. Same goes for watching the actual anime (The channel did not add that in). Can someone confirm this for me so I can tell I am not going crazy?
Only 8 years later, RIp to those who will miss it. We can thank the transition to Netflix and other online streaming services from cable. In Japan Anime on cable is actually an Advertisement for the source material(visual novel) they lose money on airing anime it's really fucking weird system the cable companies do over there the cable company pockets all the ad rev. They pay the cable network to air their anime vs the other way around like here in America where the network pays them for ad money from commercials the anime would make. It's an ass backwards system imo and that's the number 1 reason we don't get a lot of 2nd, 3rd seasons etc. because it a big investment for what is basically an Advertisement. Now these streaming services show how much money they can make from the anime itself and it'll work as an Ad for the source material. we are getting so much more complete animes compared to 10 years ago it's great.

The entire series hints at a ship between Maou and Emil even in the way they sleep in the OP… Sure glad the author didn’t decide to swap it at the literal last second!
For all those people who want to know what happens next, there are approximately 16 light novels that make up the story (plus a spin off manga with Emi and Chiho), out of those 16 novels only about 3 of them were used to make the anime. I'd recommend finding the light novels.
I love this opening. One of my favorite parts of this anime was seeing the hero and the demon lord team up instead of only being against each other, like usual.

Watching this made me remember that loneliness, bearing with past mistakes, and cherishing the present without forgetting the past are the main story themes of Hataraku Maou-sama. Even though I've read the novels up to volume 16 (Fan translateed up to volume 17, official translation up to volume 15, japanese release up to 24 volumes), I've never actually knew why I like this series so much until now. Well, those themes aren't exactly explored in the anime though. or really, nothing is. It is quite a slow burner in terms of story progression and character development in the novels, and the anime only adapted the first 2 volumes, the rest of the episodes being anime original. No wonder this haven't got any season 2 announcements...

Watching this made me remember that loneliness, bearing with past mistakes, and cherishing the present without forgetting the past are the main story themes of Hataraku Maou-sama.
Even though I've read the novels up to volume 16 (Fan translateed up to volume 17, official translation up to volume 15, japanese release up to 24 volumes), I've never actually knew why I like this series so much until now. Well, those themes aren't exactly explored in the anime though. or really, nothing is. It is quite a slow burner in terms of story progression and character development in the novels, and the anime only adapted the first 2 volumes, the rest of the episodes being anime original.
No wonder this haven't got any season 2 announcements...
