- **WARNING MAKE SURE YOU TALK TO ALL MAIN NPCS AND ADVANCE THEIR QUESTS (Particularly Theollier and Moore) BEFORE APPROACHING THE SHADOW KEEP** (Approaching the Keep Breaks a Seal that Advances NPC Questlines). The Impenetrable Thorns Sorcery in Elden Ring is a brand-new Sorcery in the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. The Impenetrable Thorns spell summons columns of the Scadutree's (Shadowtree's) impenetrable thorns from the ground.
It's counted as a Thorn Sorcery for Alberich's Robes and Staff of the Guilty.
"Sorcery of those who abandoned the practice of incantations after devout faith rewarded. them with only despair. Summons the Scadutree's impenetrable thorns from the ground. This sorcery can be used repeatedly. The image of the twisted Scadutree is an edict: Denounce their ways. Do them harm. For they have abandoned us."

Also the maternal staff from ymirs quest line makes this spell hit for insane numbers

@jasonblackwell7855 yes for whatever reason the combo of the staff of thorns and maternal staff hits the hardest. Not sure what it is about the maternal staff in particular. It makes no sense
@ForceFlowLyric Haven’t done a ton of testing but I’ll give the Maternal Staff a shot. Just went with the staff of the guilty because of the S-Teir faith scaling and 20% to Thorn Sorcery. I’ll compare some staffs early this week on a few Bosses. Thanks for the comment, and Good Hunting!

@@mid40sgamer I was able to get to 17k damage with Maternal Staff on the final boss.
This made me not care about getting it lmao I'm a Crucible Knight build and I realized that the scaling is just awful for the staff of the great beyond
This is like the most complicated way of saying if you have the shadow keep go to the 4th floor walk out to the left kill the shadow enemy’s drop down kill the bat and grab the sorcery but thank you

To those that got to messmer, you don't need to do all this, just go to the grace before you fight him and walk back.
Ohhh, I came to this video because I assumed I had to beat Messmer to get that area OR follow this very great roundabout to avoid his fight
@b-proggy7242 Thanks for the comment, I’m glad you caught the videos true meaning! Sure you could head all the way to the Mesmer fight and turn around, but I really put this video together so you could get the impenetrable thorns sorcery (after talking to all the NPCs you need to prior to breaking the seal of course) before facing any bosses. That way you could use a nasty thorn build against some of the tougher bosses which makes life pretty easy. Thanks again for the comment; stay safe out there, and Good Hunting!
@@b-proggy7242 you don't have to beat messmer. It's the grace BEFORE his fight. You'd be better off heading to that grace and securing than doing this imo.
@non-blogger The best thing about Elden Ring is there are a lot of different ways to get to some locations, and you can chose whatever path fits your playstyle.
@@non-bloggerSo let me get this straight, you’re saying it’s better to fight you’re way through the Keep, all the way to the site of grace before Messmer? You’d have to fight at least 1 Boss that way….the hippo. You literally fight nothing with the method in this dudes video except some shades and a bat. This is the fastest way imo.

@deltawldr I’m kinda leaning that way too. They’ll 100% balance it in the next patch if it’s tilting the scales too hard in pvp. If it’s just giving the edge in PVE they might leave it be for a while, hard to say. Thanks for the comment; and Good Hunting out there.
I've only fully upgraded one weapon so far from the DLC (Blood fiend's arm), which is still very good despite the nerf to it. Didn't feel like wasting upgrades just to have them nerfed later.
@deltawldr Facts, bringing stuff up to +24/+9 until nerfs complete.

Good video though I wouldn’t recommend getting this immediately as your video title states. As you stated in the video, this will break the great tune if you do it too soon….

@non-blogger I think what Anthony is saying is that people shouldn’t go right for it since breaking the seal advances NPC side quests. And the initial title suggested you can grab it immediately, which theoretically you can in just a few minutes. But you should talk to all the main NPCs first, Particularly Theollier and Moore since there is a potion exchange there. If you break the seal without advancing some quest lines you’ll miss out on dialog and gear in some cases. Which is a fair point, which is why in my last video I threw up a more adamant warning label and changed the title to this video so it’s more appropriate.

@1_Sanguine_1 Anytime! The build was actually something I just threw together for the video. I could make one I suppose but I’m sure there are a few videos out there that revolve a build around thorns.
Setup for the Video:
Staff of the Guilty (as seen in video)
Alberich’s Pointed Hat - (Strengthens Thorn Sorcery)
Alberich’s Robes - (Strengthens Thorn Sorcery)
Lord of Blood’s Exultation - (Blood loss in vicinity raises attack power)
Graven Mass Talisman - (Greatly Raises the Potency of Sorceries)
Blue Dancers Charm - (Raises attack power with low equipment load)
Radagon Icon - (Shortens spell casting time)
You can also add the Maternal staff in you’re off hand for even more damage.

@1_Sanguine_1 Don’t mind at all, it’s what the comment section is all about. Stat wise I run a Strength and Arcane build, with a little bit in faith so I can use incantations for buffs and Dragons Breath to clear areas with AOE damage. The Sword is the Marias Executioners Sword, and normally I run Dragon incantations in my off hand with the Dragon Communion Seal but wanted to showcase the Thorn damage so I swapped a few things around to increase the damage. Normally for bosses I’ve become partial to the Great Dragon Hunters Katana since it hits like a truck and its skill is chargeable which makes picking a Talisman load out to maximise damage pretty easy.

@rll9359 Truth be told it wasn’t a bad run, if you notice I’m lighting the sites of grace throughout the video. I think my first DLC playthrough I might have missed the Jump by the ulcerated tree spirit, and that’s because I wasn’t expecting the fireball barrage…but second run through no deaths on way to Specimen Storehouse. 1 Death total between 2 play throughs on that run 🤷🏼♂️. You should really give a more stern warning at the start because you didn’t even mention broken quest lines until it was TOO LATE!! 😢Spoilers are one thing. Screwing your game over is another.
