World's fastest 4cyl SUV driven: Mercedes AMG GLC 63 S E Performance

Join me a for a close-up look and some drive impressions of Mercedes-AMG's GLC 63 S E Performance SUV. The big news is the replacement of the twin-turbo V8 with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder hybrid powertrain that pushes out 680hp and 1,020Nm. The old V8 thunder might be gone, but the newbie is still a rapid chariot. Mercedes-AMG quotes a 0-100kph split of 3.5sec and electronically limited top speed of 275kph. Weight distribution improves from a nose-heavy 55:45 over front and rear axles in the old V8 to an optimal 49:51 front/rear split. Four-wheel steering, active roll stabilisation and trick adaptive dampers also help in making this 2.3-tonne wagon feel much lighter than it is. Fair comment, Samir -- 2.3 tonnes is indeed in the sumo category, but I must say this SUV does a great job of hiding all that lard. Much more agile than it has any right to be
