Jets To Brazil - Orange Rhyming Dictionary was the first record that really fundamentally changed the way I approach writing music.. to this day I often listen back to it and I always get something new out of it. I would lose my mind if I met Blake.
Never forget the beautiful Jawbreaker. Easily some of the greatest records of the 90’s were made in part by these gentlemen. “We’re too smart to watch TV, we’re too dumb to make believe.”
I love this show so much. I get exposed to tons of music that would otherwise fall through the cracks. Many thanks to Amoeba and bands like Jawbreaker. Please don't stop producing these segments.
I would never ever thought Jawbreaker is the type of band that listen to sinead o'connor faith & courage also universal mother.. 2 of my all time fave and are their fave too, watching this its just unreal! Love u guys! Thank u endless for the music all these years! 🔥🔥🔥
Just saw Jawbreaker night before last in Seattle to kick off their spring 2022 tour. I’d been waiting 25 years to see that show. Best. Show. Ever. Jawbreaker is definitely the most underrated band of the 90’s. They just seem like cool guys too. Love ya Blake!
Saw them night before last in Portland for the 2nd night of the tour. They sounded great and Blake's voice was spot-on perfect! We were right in front of him the whole show. Some magazine writer (shall remain nameless here, but not hard to find) bagged on the Seattle show and Blake let us all know that he wasn't too pleased about it. Just not sure why someone would slag these guys. They're F-ing great!
This is the best What's In my bag? That I've seen so far. I'm definitely looking up Julien that's an amazing sound. From the otherside of the world.. props!
Yep. I remember visiting my brother in San Francisco, and he took me to Amoeba in like 99 or 2000, and it completely fucking overwhelmed me. I bought the Blue Meanies album-the post-wave- which was awesome, by the way.
I also discovered Julien Baker through her cover of accident prone which is my favorite jawbreaker song. She is amazing and her songs help me to feel feelings. My favorite song of hers is everybody does
I know it's cliche and "le wrong generation" type stuff to say you came of age in the wrong genre but Damn I would have loved to be ten years younger so I could have seen Jawbreaker during their original period. It feels like the last generation where there was an Alternative scene. Nowadays it's all pop and hip-hop and I feel like I don't fit in :(
There's still a burgeoning alternative scene. Alternative isn't and wasn't ever actually a big open thing. You have to find alternative culture, it doesn't come to you.
Julien Baker tho. Good stuff. Good tracks. I love how my music library grows from watching these videos. Gonna listen to some of the music listed here.
@Darkstar 6589, they are "true emo" '90s pioneers of the genre not this cringy pop punk the millennials listen to today.i'm not a fan of emo & can't stand pop punk but if you're a fan of music from the '90s you should check out their classic album Dear You.
Go take a listen! Adam is such an amazing drummer with Chris, they are quite the rhythm section for a three peice. and Blake's lyrics are second to none.
Though, that stupid label was stuck to them well after they had broken up. When I was in high school they were still considered punk. Posthumously the band was considered emo.
Yeah, right?! I don't know where the hell he lives but I can spend an entire weekend going from record store to record store in Manhattan, Queens and Brooklyn. I sometimes do that when I have nothing going on and can visit like 20 plus places with a collector friend. And that would be like 10% of record stores in the city. Dude needs to get out of his neighborhood more often!
Jawbreaker giving props to Julien is the coolest thing I've seen on this channel
Blake Schwartzenbach is one of my all-time favorite lyricists.
Agreed. His lyrics are damn near untouchable.
Same
"Foul weather friend, you were so dying, an amuture chemist now" : king medicine - jets to Brazil

I met Blake twice, both times were pretty awkward. But I wouldn’t imagine it being any other way. Meeting my all time favorite song writer.
jawbreaker was the most underrated band ever
The anniversary was better and less well known
Facts
The Anniversary sucks compared to Blake’s output, TRY AGAIN LATER
Sew
@@atomicman2307 hilarious. Their 2nd record was good tho.
The lead singer of Jets To Brazil likes MF DOOM. That's so cool.
RIP

Fully agree. Their songs touch the core of your heart. Especially if it is broken.
Ok this is incredible. Blake picking NIN, MF DOOM, and Bowie just makes me appreciate Jawbreaker that much more
We all knew he likes DOOM.
One of my all time favorite bands
Legendary band with some great picks!
I'm Adam the drummer. **mimes drumming for those who don't know**
I've never clicked anything so fast
I love this show so much. I get exposed to tons of music that would otherwise fall through the cracks. Many thanks to Amoeba and bands like Jawbreaker. Please don't stop producing these segments.
talking about his daughter "she doesn't mess around" ! so great.

Yeah, blows me away, tbh. I'm a massive Jawbreaker fan and I don't like Sinead at all 😂. She's off her rockers.
Amazing band! I’ve been listening to Dear You on an almost daily basis recently!
Jawbreaker is very unique for me because they’re the only band of that genre of music that I like
That you've heard, anyway!
Holy wow, I get to see Jawbreaker in one week! I’ve waited over 20s years for this. So excited!!!
Never been more excited to see a What's In My Bag ep.
One of the best What's in My Bag. Every pick was a gem of talent.

Jawbreaker change my Life for real, so this must be enough reason for love this video.
These episodes are getting better and better....
Excellent choices! Kendrick Lamar, NIN, Sinéad O'Connor, Julien Baker, MF DOOM, & David Bowie are all dope!

Hee haw! Just picked up a new copy of "Unfun", black vinyl, 2021. So good! I'm 49...

Jawbreaker is just hands down one if the best bands ever. 💙✌️🗽🏴☠️
Blake kinda looks like Neil Peart now.
and voice haha
The extra editing was more on point than usual on this one haha
Can we get a DOOMBREAKER colab?
I’ve dreamt of this day for a long time
I love jawbreaker
To Pimp A Butterfly is perfection.
Love Jawbreaker. 'Bivouac' is easily one of the greatest albums ever recorded.
How did I know these guys, (who rule) listen to killer music? Jawbreaker never fails to deliver the goods.
their kids sound so cool
The Clean !!! Hell yes!
I've never felt so related to a favorite band
the clean!
To hear black star for the first time again.
There was no Seamus in The Clean. Maybe he meant Hamish?
thought the same, what a donkey
Or, he's hanging out w/some dude named Seamus who, for some reason, he thinks was in the Clean.
oof
Hoorah The Clean!
great picks from great and also legends band
btw, who edited this vid guys hahahahhahah
Good choice on Hesitation Marks! Many fail to see the album's appeal to hip-hop fans.
Oh wow how I loved Blake 🤘🏻
Blake picked my favorite hip-hop album !! MF Doom

@@creamcannon825 I mean yes but it's not what it was even 5 years ago.
@@creamcannon825 Also, many bands from alternative scenes only get big and cited as important retrospectively.
Well that was awesome
Please get Alynda from Hurray For The Riff Raff on an episode!!
Now that I'd love to see!
oh my blake and mf doom i almost fainted ... big fan of both
Do it Clean
Ay The Clean
Nice continuity error when he says “excited to go home and do some one handed pushups”
Chesterfield King cover by Northstar/Cassino 👌🏽
I love their picks.
How's he holding Blackstar at 1:58
wtf there's like a cut in the middle of that part.
wow they did some serious distorting of that, good catch
still listening to 24hr revenge therapy. And i even liked jets to brazil
I’ve never listened to jawbreaker...I like how Adams humor is subtle haha.
Not serious but he’s serious
Subtle.

Wordplay,
I’m curious to hear how he writes his stuff.
Though, that stupid label was stuck to them well after they had broken up. When I was in high school they were still considered punk. Posthumously the band was considered emo.
Baggin'! A less popular, far superior show. Fer sure.
Bay love !
Of course Blake loves MF Doom. Real recognize real.
I always love punk artists picks but cant get in to punk music, so confused :-(
SupraWes they're not a punk band. That's why you love their picks. They're into the same corporate system piss you're into.
LOL "jawbreaker isn't a punk band" LOL
If there’s two things all the guests on this show love they’re David Lynch and MF Doom
Larry Dong and j dilla
Used to be Sun Ra a few years ago. Seemed like everyone *had* to pick a Sun Ra lp.
I think Hesitation Marks is actually the best sounding NIN album I've heard
greatest people on the planet
did he say there's not a lot of record stores left in NYC??
Good ass taste in music.
Please who is it ? 3:08 Link ...@Amoeba
You ever find out?
MARCEL KHALIFa huh...interesting !
Jabrane Amami half the reason I watch these, a great cypher for radical artists
Kinda liked these before but they come off as such cool folk in this vid. Gonna have to relisten I thonk🤔🤔🤔
Gooood taste
MF DOOM
Great!
Still waiting for the first "bag it" to air
Progressive!
super cool
I think 24 Hr. Revenge Therapy might be more "seminal" than Dear You but that's just me :)
