Worked on 2 of his films he directed, by chance, in my 20yr career, 10 years apart. Great guy, one of the few in Hollywood. Wish I had more time to talk to him. We were too busy. Thanks for this upload, can listen to him all day.
"If there is a Giant has his foot on your neck, you have two choices you can say he's bigger than meee, he's fifteen feet tall, my neck is cracking I might as well give up or you can say if his foot is on my neck his toe is close to my mouth so I can bite his toe. I choose toe bitting" I love it Bill Duke is the man
from 50:00 on- I'm going to sleep to this almost every night. What an inspiration!! You can feel from somebody who's been there and done it. Thank you so much Mr. Duke!
Always enjoyed and admired Bill Duke's acting, directing. From Commando to Predator, Menace to Society and Busta Rhymes "Dangerous" video, and everything else theres too many to list. This video is amazing to watch. I hope I get to meet him one day and tell him, I appreciate his works one day. I didn't know about his earlier work and his struggle, guys a genius!
Only actor I know can make a prop like a razor blade and shaving so unsettling and nerve racking, seeing this interview explained alot about his mastery of acting
I don't know who this guy is, but after the first clip showed up in my feed, I stopped what I was doing and went to find the rest of the interview. He's one of those people who when he starts speaking, everyone else stops and listens.
That is the fabulous Mr Bill Duke. He was in the original Predator movie with Arnold Schwarzenegger and the classic 70's film Carwash and that's just to name two blockbuster films he's done.
During listening to the video you really want to give not just one thumb up. Maybe one every 5 to 10 mins. This is an exellent video! Thanks for taking and uploading it.
My god, this was amazing, so informative. I wish I would’ve seen this sooner. Awesome interview, much respect to Bill Duke he’s a good man. Thanks Film courage!
As Bill talks about his life on this and in many interviews it becomes apparent that he is much more than meets the eye. He thinks & feels on multiple levels yet he seems to have one identity; as though he has majestically, philosophically, intellectually, ethically, wisely, humorously, patiently, tolerantly, artfully, deftly, peacefully and not without great adversity mastered the volcano within, unleashing it when and how he chooses. When he leans back and tells somebody they "done fucked up" you know he's acting but you know he's drawing on a very real power to intimidate.
The You know you done fucked up don't you line from Menace II Society and "I see yooou line from Predator are two of the most memorable lines from Films Love Bill Duke.
Beyond legendary...a class all by himself that only he deserves to be a part of...although Robert and Kevin Hooks come close...ordinary, extraordinary...cannot praise this brother enough...the respect I have for this brother is unexplainable
I am an optimist. When someone tells me to fall into darkness backwards, I see light at the end of the tunnel. Like rising into the light from the darkness.
This is Beyond College knowledge... you may attain a Dr. degree but as my Grandmother says "you can't Beat a trained Mind". This is Life wisdom concerning Not only onscreen/behind screen info but also info on Life. Watch the whole thing at least once. I will always remember to tell young women that... "Men treat you like you treat yourself"... That's Diamond info!!!
59:25 THIS! In the 10 years that I have worked with actors, 99% DO NOT LISTEN. They just want to talk about "Me, me and my feelings, my troubles, my friends, my perspective!" Its exhausting, and when they screw up, you are the one who has to explain where it went wrong.
Bill, don't be ashamed of your portrayal of 'Silk' in the Hit TV show Kojak.. that wasn't a big screen drama... that entire show was a comic book come to life with wild outlandish made-up characters of all sorts every week. Almost like the original BatMan, it was both an honor and a riot to get cast. So OF COURSE the character Silk was going to be a ridiculous, quintessential stereotype of a NYC Pimp right out of a comic book. And you portrayed the character brilliantly. And to this day, I still believe that only you could have carried that role. It was much more difficult to be convincing in that role than you are leading on. We saw the serious actor, the theatrical actor, and a self-deprecating comic actor all wrapped up into one. Don't be ashamed of the role. Be proud of how you pulled it off. It WOULD HAVE looked shameful if any other actor attempted it. You were both brilliant and a riot... and that is exactly what that role required.
"Here we are again, bro... Just you and me. Same kind of moon, same kind of jungle. Real number 10, remember? Whole platoon, 32 men chopped into meat... We walk out, just you and me, nobody else. Right on top, huh? Not a scratch... Not a fuckin' scratch. You know, who ever got you, they'll come back again. And when he does, I'm gonna cut your name right into him... I'm gonna cut your name into him!"

Why can't every actor give such honest and in depth interviews?
This is by far the best interview I've ever seen.
