  • Cleaning the auger bit and lead hammer handle was pretty simple. The hammer handle had very little rust and the auger bit shined after just a little rubbing. This 100 year old 2” barn auger is a lot rougher. I have high hopes for it to work. We’ll know in a few days. 😊

The hardest part is the waiting!!! I know what you mean. My wife just left for the store and TOLD me not to wash any clothes. She said that somethings need to be treated for stains. Just like you I'm just sitting here twisting my arm and gritting my teeth not to run into the bedroom and check out the hamper. I know what you mean the hardest part. I think I will go out into the shop and build drawers for Momma's new sewing center. Enjoy your day.

Hey Old Sneelock, I have cleaned rust off of a lot of old tools. I just put them in white vinegar for about 24 hrs. I take them out, rinse and dry them off. Then I use a 6'' wire wheel on my bench grinder to knock the rust off. I bought 2 wheels from McMaster-Carr, 1 coarse and 1 fine. Turns out, all I ever use is the fine. The vinegar bath seems to loosen up the rust so that when you hit it with the wire wheel, it just falls off. If you try to take the rust off without using the vinegar, you have to work like hell to remove it. Don't buy cheap wheels from Harbor Freight or even Home Depot because the wires fly off of the wheels and don't last long. I wear a face shield and I'm always picking wires out of my clothes even with a quality wheel.

I wonder what it will look like under all that rust?

I’m sure it’s going to come out just dandy after all it’s not like you’ve not done it before . Personally I’ve not got the patience I just hit it with the fibre wheels I like stuff finished to a polish anyway . Got to say I really like the plastic pipe set up you have really cleaver . I’ve done my Japanese saw successfully and very happy it’s done they aren’t as hard to do as I thought thankfully 😅. Yet another interesting video thanks unc 👍

I just acquired a barn beam press identical to yours. Do you know the manufacture date or model number? I think it may be a 6702.

I've never had any trouble waiting. There was always something to do and if there wasn't, I came home where there is Always something to do. Never bothered me a bit to smack the clock and head out. Just got through with the neighbors grass for the 2nd time and it looks like a golf course without the golf and for sure without the course. They ought to be in next week and then it's their baby. The trackhoe is supposedly coming this afternoon. The other neighbor even went and got some diesel so maybe he knows something I don't, so maybe I'll get to go play! But till then the backyard beckons. Out with the Kawasnapper and round and round. 75 and on the short end of a long weedeater it feels like 175 but I think I'm done with that contrivance. Just mowing and bagging. Carry on in the manner you're unaccustomed!
