This song was easily one of my favourites of 2019 and tbh is one of the best kpop songs of the decade. The title is a play on the Korean word 응 which is pronounced 'eung'. A % symbol looks similar to 응 when slanted. Eung is just a sound of affirmation, essentially just another word for 'yes'. So Eung Eung is the name of the song! It was produced by Black Eyed Pilseung, the team behind many, many hits, including a fair few of Twice's classics. In Korean, if ㅇproceeds the other characters in a letter it indicates an absence of sound and is therefore silent, but if it follows other characters it is the 'ng' sound (like -ing, without the i). Since ㅡ is a sound of 'eu', 응 is 'eung'. All Korean letters must have both a vowel and a consonant, hence the common use of ㅇproceeding individual vowel sounds rather than the vowels existing alone. Such as 아이유 = IU, when it is just a+i+yu = aiyu. Aside from the Korean lesson, I think Apink are the second oldest still active girl group behind Brown Eyed Girls. They debuted in 2011, and I love that in 2018 they started to reinvent their sound in this direction. I can't wait to see what they do next.
I wouldn’t call BEG active since they just had their first comeback in years but it’s sad to think that Apink is one of the only old girl groups that still comebacks regularly. AOA as well.

Truthfully, while I like the color grading of the MV, I dont think the video itself is anything special. Its good, not M/V of the year tho. I think they storyline about creating basically the "perfect man" (also a fucking fantastic song by Shinhwa, BTS has covered that before for good reason. Would be a cool throwback for yall to do.) is interesting, but we've had some ridiculous videos this year like Focus On Me, Eclipse, Superhuman, Why - ONF, etc. Idk if %% fits the bill. THE SONG, however, is easily one of my favorites on the year. That was a great opening two weeks with iKON - I'm Ok, Chungha - Gotta Go, and %%. I absolutely fell in love with this when it came out, and it really convinced me I might have been missing out on Apink. They're the real deal man. I'm So Sick is another banger in this style, but they've been really good since debut in 2011. Mr. Chu, NoNoNo and LUV are all a little cuter style, but they're great songs and the first two are considered undeniable kpop hits. Also, %% is a styled way of putting 응응 (eung eung), basically "uh huh" or "yeah".

This song is pretty cool, I wasn't expecting that. The M/V is an M/V. But, yeah, the beat was great. Gave me slightly mysterious vibes.
