Amazing you did it! Even though i managed to kill their general i could not get the infantry to rout. The triarii didn’t stand a chance against the chosen swordsmen. Thanks for saving my battle!
How did you even even get high enough barracks to field triarii? I usually reach the reform before i could lol. Theyre also worthless against the brits bc they have no cav
I always had the impression that chariots knock down almost anything they touch. And while infantry can often get back up, a knocked down cavalry is killed. That's why they are so lethal vs cav.
Idk, i always found chariots to be so incredibly bad. Like they do a TON of damage on the initial charge, but you just sneeze at them and they collapse. But then again i always loved grece, macedonia and seleucids who just murder chariot armies
This game is 100 years old and every time I watch this guy play it I learn something I didn’t know. Checking the units experience in the middle of the battle 🤯
When I played RTW chariots of enemy will always grind through whole my army and kill everything. When I was commanding chariots they died with any collision like a sword or a pike or a horseman... I have always lost all the charriot generals in fights, they were like riding without hp and dying a lot. It is really intriguing how your cav survived against charriots, a truly heroic battle and victory!
Enemy Units doing always better on harder battle difficulties because they get flat stat boosts. I think +4 atk/def on hard and +8 atk/def on very hard.
@@adept7497Close. It's +7 attack/+7 morale, which are the two most important stats in Rome 1. With high attack, they just chew through things ( especially with how fast/fluid the Rome 1 combat system is, funny enough ) and the +7 morale keeps them in the fight so even when you do start to edge out, with how bad base morale in Rome 1 is they'll win through unit losses. If they had 7 def, they would be unkillable ( case in point stuff like General's Bodyguard on VH where they thoroughly outstat people. If they had another 7 mdef they'd be impossible to kill)
Keep your chariots in a blob and keep moving! The moment you stop you will get shredded, but if you just give move orders constantly they will mow the enemy down.
There's a trick you can do in Rome 1 to make sure the general doesn't die in the immediate charge - press the rally button as the unit is charging in, and the general himself rears up on his horse as a special animation, and thus stops moving and falls behind the unit. Really fun battle that highlights just how versatile these early games were. You'd never manage that kind of victory in Troy or Pharaoh with those odds.
I was playing Barbarian Invasion, and one of the hoard factions sieged Rome. The battle is like 13.000 barbarians vs 3.5000 romans. I played the battle 4-5 times, came close at least 2 times to victory, but no matter what, I always lose. I am thinking about sending Legend the save file, If i figure out how to do so

It is a historical reality. A general routing or dying meant there was little chance for victory, and very very very few battles ended in victory despite the general dying (all of which being minor battles). Historical TW enjoyers hate it when this is not how the game works, see Troy.
It is good for realism enjoyers and it is actually a really good gameplay feature if implemented properly, you just have to devote a lot of resources to protect the general and using his heavy cavalry is like a gamble, which is also a good gameplay feature. Form a circle and then defeat them. And then I weaken them up with Artillery from a far. The last campaign I did was Napoleon. I got to Moscow, buy 1810.. If using -ne on a shortcut of the base exe or -w doesnt work properly then you might be out of luck, if they are causing weird issues you can try mucking around with compatability settings and seeing if that fixes it, but im guessing when using -ne or -w it sometimes clicks through to your desktop and you cant control the units or something? @legendoftotalwar i could think of a vmware workstation. have it run the game and have that software be in borderless windowed mode. also kills all the nasty bugs and glitches that may come on win10/11 when playing older games.
Create a shortcut from the root exe file. To run borderless and solve the alt tab glitch add "-ne" to the shortcut target field, like this: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Rome Total War Gold\RomeTW.exe" -ne
